Just so we all feel at home

The others weren't so great BigPig: DS2 spent all night in my bed because he was scared after watching Spy Kids 2 Hmm and J has developed this habit of screaming in the night but when you go in he's asleep. Last night was great though as DS4 was only up for two feeds but DS2 and J didn't wake up all night.

It goes to show what a difference preparation can make. We already had the cot set up with a Sleepyhead, reflux wedge and Ewan. DS4 is swaddled at night and I strongly suspect me going dairy and egg free has helped too.

There's definitely something going on, DS4 tends to be in pain about an hour after a feed and he's having a quite heroic amount of dirty nappies. They're not so green since I started block feeding him. The other evening he was grizzling and DH gave him some Infant Gaviscon (left over from J but still in date) and he calmed down instantly which made me wonder if it soothed him somehow. I'll see what the GP says as his eight-week check but I'm not convinced he'll have a clue either.

YellowWellies · 05/05/2015 20:44

Stunt Lil was the same - slept through every night for two months until teething started. Being dairy free from the outset is amazing!

ThePhoenixRising · 06/05/2015 20:11

Hope all the d&v has pissed off.

Lost you all.

Have nc'd btw.

Fab news re sleeping well stunt

I'm Advising everyone around me with colicky babies to go dairy free, thanks to quiche knowledge. No-one listens and doctors advise that is bullshit.

Elizadoesdolittle · 06/05/2015 21:54

I've done the very same this evening. I said to my friend with a very colicky 8 wk old baby that she may have a milk intolerance. She said it's not possible as she has been ebf for 2 weeks Hmm I had to explain that if dairy is in her diet than baby will be getting it too! And I doubt she'll go dairy free either. Just no helping some people.

StuntNun · 07/05/2015 07:28

I think it's way more common than people realise. I was allergic to egg myself as a baby and my mum says I didn't sleep through until I was 2. But when I suggest to her that maybe I had CMPA too she dismisses the idea. And yet when I cut down on milk in 2013 when I went low carb I noticed a reduction in nasal congestion symptoms. In my opinion I don't digest dairy that well which means larger pieces of the protein get into my breastmilk.

YellowWellies · 07/05/2015 20:53

I see it everywhere now! Our old paed reckoned he'd never met a child that had to be sleep trained that didn't really have underlying issues with cows milk, eggs, soya or wheat. Jonas has been 6 months off omeprazole and 3 months since a dairy challenge, and he's still getting diarrhoea nappies near enough every day. The doc has referred us to see if there are other allergies or coeliac going on Sad . He is very wee I'm really concerned that malabsorption is affecting his growth.

Elizadoesdolittle · 07/05/2015 22:32

Oh yw I'm sorry Sad That's one of my fears for E. She's still on 7mg omeprozale which isn't much (i'll stop that in the next couple of weeks) and she's dairy and soya free but her poos. My god they're something else. It's not normal.

StuntNun · 08/05/2015 07:41

I don't know how we're going to be able to do toilet training with J. He's had diarrhoea just about every day for around a year now. He was definitely suffering with malabsorption of nutrients because he looked so gaunt and unhealthy and he was dropping through the percentiles. Having reintroduced some dairy his health has recovered wonderfully and he's back up to the 9th percentile but it's not doing his gut health much good I'm sure.

YellowWellies · 08/05/2015 18:20

Jonas is 9th centile dairy free but he's so pale with the diarrhoea. My sisters daughter is 75th centile dairy free - so I know it isn't the dairy free making him small its the fact he's not absorbing enough from his food because of his gut. I'm sure there's another allergy or coeliac - he's literally had 4 solid poos this year. Like you Stunt I don't see how we could toilet train him at the mo.

Pikz · 08/05/2015 21:28

Want to give you all and the wee df big hugs

Though you are in some ways lucky as I had to spend this evening explaining why there was sweet corn in his poo in the toilet

BigPigLittlePig · 08/05/2015 21:51

We're on the brink of pùtting the omeprazole back up to full dose, nights have been so tricky lately and it has such a bad knock on effect in the day. Stunt and YW - I worried about F and toilet training/diarrhoea, but she is so distressed by the idea of doing wees or poos anywhere but the toilet, that it's been alright.

What are peoples plans for the weekend? We need to house hunt as a job change and house move are on the cards. Eek.

Not much to add to the df discussion. Our df was so long ago and things have moved on so much since then. Although I do agree it is the answer to everything. I have recently been learning a lot about how gut issues can contribute to our mental health. I have a friend who thinks she has got leaky gut syndrome and has had to eliminate pretty much everything from her diet but stock soups and some other weird things. I also wish I had taken dd1 to a cranial osteopath. Maybe it isn't too late.

ds1 goes climbing on a Saturday morning and up till now it has been raining every week. But today it isn't. So I might take O for a walk in the forrest during the lesson.

DH is on his way back from Brussels. We have missed him. So I am off to get my legs waxed in celebration this afternoon.

O has developed an interesting way of getting what he wants.

O " want daddy's key"
Me not sure whether he said tea, key or something else clarifies... " O do you want daddy's keys?"
O " ohhhhh Okayyyyyy"

Like I am forcing him. He does it about everything I might not want him to have. He says something in toddler speak and I repeat in the correct way. I have done this with all of them but no one has used it to their advantage In Such a way.

StuntNun · 09/05/2015 10:04

Well I had a bit of a dairy bender yesterday as it was DH's birthday (cake, ice cream, cream, milk chocolate and even a tea with real milk!) and so far no reaction! And even better news it looks like some of the symptoms of CMPA I thought was seeing turned out to have been a bout of diarrhoea that has now resolved. So I'm going to give it a few more days then cautiously start reintroducing dairy into my diet and see how we go. I'm really hoping the probiotics we've both been taking and the first six weeks cutting dairy free have given DS4 a good start and he's more resilient as a result.

Elizadoesdolittle · 09/05/2015 19:11

stunt it was also my dh birthday yesterday. a rare night out just us two coincided with the 4 month sleep regression. lovely!

StuntNun · 10/05/2015 06:11

One day we will get sleep. One day!

StuntNun · 10/05/2015 06:51

Still no reaction from DS4 so it looks like we only have reflux and no CMPA! I don't know whether it was from my avoiding dairy and taking probiotics or just good luck but he is sleeping at night between feeds without distress. So I'm going to reintroduce butter and yoghurt from Tuesday and see how we go, then cheese and cream later on all being well. I think I'm going to stay off milk though as it doesn't agree with me that well either. The only problem is our fridge is full with all the different types of milk we have to keep on hand: full cream for DH and DS2, semi-skimmed for DS1, coconut milk for J, and almond milk for me. I'm not sure when to give eggs a try since J reacted so strongly to them.

Zamboni · 10/05/2015 17:59

Found you all - this thread dropped off my threads I'm on!

BP are you likely to move far?

The feeding/gut issues must be such a concern. S seems to be fine now - we try not to let him have too much dairy and he still has oat milk as he loves it and has lots. If he has too much dairy then he gets a rash so guess we will keep on keeping it under review.

We have had a lovely few days - little mini break with lots of swimming and shows and then dash to see family and went to Disney on Ice last night. S was wriggly but enjoyed the Frozen part, DD was enthralled. Lovely break punctuated by exploding washing machine before we went and flooded bathroom on our return (at 1am last night), requiring new washing machine and Sunday plumber call out charge today - ouch. DD also puked spectacularly in B&Q today and I managed to get covered. Really hope that's our 3 things.

TheRealGracePoole · 10/05/2015 18:04

It had to be zamboni

Crisps Wine, nice end to a chilled out day.

Elizadoesdolittle · 13/05/2015 22:18

E got hold of some left over cereal of DD1's yesterday. My god the poos she has been doing today . She is certainly not ready for cows milk. No sick though so that's something. yet.

Such beautiful weather today. Shame it's going to piss down all day tomorrow.

Gosh it's quiet round these parts.

How's the packing going pass?

Passmethecrisps · 15/05/2015 22:33

Hallo!!!!

Oh flipping heck packing is not happening!! P is off to the cm tomorrow to try to give us a clear run but poor DH has been working 19 hour days for over a week and is done in with no respite so we are all a bit weary really. I no longer care about decluttering or perfect packing - I just want us to be in. This time next week we will be all done though

OP posts:
Pikz · 16/05/2015 06:50

Pass it will be over before you know it

Elizadoesdolittle · 16/05/2015 09:35

pass I got to that stage. just shoved everything in boxes (well the packers did) and away we went. Means having to declutter when unpacking but hey ho. You'll have a lovely house to do it in.
