Welcome everyone. You're doing a good job by the way. Remember that.

Captain our ranitidine is 150mg per 10ml this seems to be the standard solution it comes in look on your bottle what does it say? If it is the same then 5ml would be equivalent to an adult dose so I would double check it with a dr/pharmacist.

HTH. Phone out of hours doc/pharmacy if in doubt. My DS is on 10mg Losec daily & Pharm questioned the dose & consulted her book before giving me drugs. Pharmacists have a duty of care to ensure correct dosage, so should be able to tell you.

Well done Fedup I'm jealous, don't think my section scar will allow me to run yet! :(

yellow would you do me a favour and see what it says on your bottle about contents? Ours says 5miligrams/5ml but by doing some reading on other forums it seems that others have 75mg/5ml so higher concentration but lower dose. I'm pretty sure we just have a weak solution (I know it had to be made up especially). Also he often happily drinks it so it can't taste that strong! Will call GP Monday to double check though.

Wow @ the 5k though Fedup, well done!
Thanks everyone for the responses to my bum query Grin, i think it maybe is just a tear then, how glorious. Need to up my fibre and liquid intake, slightly relieved there's no meds for bf'ing mums anyway as I wasn't keen on having to moon my poor doc!
Tatty has the infant transformed into anything else yet? :-P
Fatpony my lo is also quite definite in how she wants to be held and is surprisingly strong! Her legs push off from me so suddenly sometimes I think she could catapult herself from my lap! She's really found her voice the last few days as well, cooing and yelping cheekily, DH is sure she said hello and OK back to him Hmm , good grief he's going to be one of those parents who thinks he has a prodigy on his hands...

Whoops sorry my page hadn't updated with latest posts. I think this definitely answers it Me and cj and actually suggests he's on a low dosage which I suspected as the improvement has only been slight. Thanks!

Captain - sounds like you have a very diluted solution. But still worth double checking at the pharmacy. They are open Sundays and late night.

Did someone mention earlier about breastfed babies sleeping through?

DD is being an absolute star overnight. If I manage to express enough for a dream feed at 10.30pm ish, she will usually go through to at least 5am and sometimes 7am.

I then wake with mahoosive boobs and she'll usually only need one side for her first feed. I get between 4-5oz expressing off the other side, which is then enough to dream feed the following night.

splendide · 29/11/2014 17:10

Could you explain how you do the dream feed? Sorry I'm clueless! Does she stay asleep? Do you feed her in her crib? How long has she been asleep by 10.30? I presume you're not getting cluster feeding in the evenings, how old is your DD?

Sorry to be so inquisitive when I'm so inactive on these threads

The infant doesn't appear to be possessed, so that's a relief. She's still very sleepy, though, although when she's been awake this afternoon she's seemed less... needy maybe? She dozed off so I put her in her Moses basket and when I looked back over she was awake and just cheerfully looking about her, which she's never done before. I wonder if maybe she's having some kind of brain leap? She'll be seven weeks on Monday.

Hi splendide

A dream feed just means waking a sleeping baby to feed him/her. Generally they only half wake up for it and go straight back down afterwards.

You can dream feed with a breastfeed, but it is not as effective as a bottle because bottle feeding is passive so baby will drink more while remaining half asleep. Breastfeeding just puts baby straight back to sleep so isn't worth it as a dreamfeed. This is why I use expressed milk in a bottle.

DD is 9 weeks. Cluster feeding finished at around 7 weeks. She is breastfed around 7pm-8pm (whenever the feed falls on-demand) and then gets a bottle of breastmilk (around 5oz, depends how much I have expressed) at 10.30pm ish.

Captain go for stronger solution - less to get in!

Report
Kirstipops · 29/11/2014 17:43

Fate I'm roughly the same timetable as you, except an hour later and I bf her that last feed so my boobs aren't too uncomfy at 6-7 when she wakes up, has a feed (and I express off the other side and refrigerate or freeze for another day) then she goes back over for another 2-3 hours - this is prob when I should get up and do stuff but so far I've only managed it once! My boobs are gradually getting used to the night time pattern as I don't wake up too uncomfortable. Not so during the day though, they were killing me on Thursday when I was away from her for 6 hoursShock, plus much leakage Blush.

That's interesting Fate about the dream feed, didn't know that about the "passive" feed with a bottle thing.

FATEdestiny · 29/11/2014 17:57

Kirsti

If you are expressing every morning then you could use this milk as the night's dreamfeed, if it is something you are interested in. Definitely easier to get more milk into a half-asleep baby by bottle than breast.

Bear in mind that there is a case against the dreamfeed. If you are waking baby for a feed then you have no pointers to look out for to know when the feed isn't needed anymore. At some point baby will sleep 7pm-7am, but if you are dream feeding it is hard to know when baby is at that stage.

Pip barely wakes up for the first night time feed. Nor do I!

Things have definitely changed for the better over the last week (6-7), even though I wouldn't have said they were bad before particularly. We've been out for a proper walk today and it was fine feeding her and changing her on a rock in the middle of a field... then feeding her in the pub before a sneaky pint. Nice... like she's a person and part of the family, rather than a thing we're trying to keep alive!

Kirstipops · 29/11/2014 18:14

Hmm good point, right now I can only get a chance to express once a day anyway and I'm saving the feeds up for a couple of things I have coming up this month but I think I will try it maybe when I'm on holiday over new year!

Goats I know what you mean, loving her wee personality coming through too! I had H out a few times when she was a clusterfeeding monster so i seemed to have my boobs out in every establishment, a baptism of fire though as I'm not self conscious anymore about it.

My little Bumboo is 6 weeks old tonight! I can't believe it. Where has the time gone?

I'm assuming he's in a growth spurt as today he's feeding every two hours (last bottle only 30mls) but also wondering whether cluster feeding exists with FF babies?

Thanks for explaining dream feeding. I was also clueless

splendide · 29/11/2014 19:00

Awesome thanks Fate. DS is not quite 5 weeks so hopefully will get less clustery soon.

7 weeks here, and we're pretty much at the end of cluster feeding. Thank fuck! Last weekend I was at the end of my tether, then it just stopped - we did change our evening timetable but I think she did it on her own coincidentally.

I remember someone mentioning something about points of the foot to massage/ rub for wind but can't remember who it was or what they said. The OOH doctor we saw suggested stopping the infacol/ Colief because they "obviously weren't working".....I now have a baby who, after a happy few days after thrush cleared up is obviously uncomfortable after feeds again. He cries until he's passed wind a number of times then falls asleep. The cries are heartbreaking so I'd like to try anything possible to help him. Feels like as soon as one thing gets resolved, we have another problem Sad

Report
Sorehead · 29/11/2014 19:05

If the apparent discomfort continues to get worse, we will be going back to docs!

It was me sore
It's a reflexology point. Massage the feet a bit then lay your index finger across horizontally the foot on the bit between the ball of the foot and the heel. Press and hold. Then on the other side. I alternated this with bending his knees up and putting soles of feet together and rocking him from side to side. Combo really helped him pass that wind.
I also do find gripe water works. It has an calming effect on him too!
The antibiotics will have messed with his Tummy flora so will take a few days to get it back.
