A propos of floppy heads, according to a friend of mine who lives in Paris (but doesn't have children) in France the adviceis not to support their heads at all as they need to strengthen their neck muscles. I've been unable to verify this and it sounds nuts to me, but my friend swears blind there are baby heads flopping about all over the shop.

We've had a slightly better evening here will a mild decrease in fussiness so I feel abit less like I'm on some kind of hell ride. Also, weird things my baby seems to like- being rolled along the sofa repeatedly; having water ladelled over her head.

ExcitedCJ · 03/12/2014 21:14

there are baby heads flopping about all over the shop. oh tatty that made me actually LOL! :)

magichandles · 03/12/2014 21:23

Supporting the head was the thing I stressed about most when pregnant with DD1 - I even had nightmares about it.

I did my first solo bedtime with all 3 tonight which is actually quite impressive considering DD2 is now 7 weeks old. It mostly went ok, although all 3 had their lights turned out by 7 as I had had enough of everyone. Couldn't be bothered to cook myself any dinner though and in retrospect I'll eat with the kids next time.

In fact, I've just realised that I have had an evening after all as DD2 has slept from 7 - result!

Yellow - I know a 'mega multiple momma' with 6 children. She does slings and carriers. She decided with DC4 to get rid of all her pushchairs and just carry. But by DC5 two years later (and subsequently DC6) she did go back to pushchairs.

I'm not a fan of carriers and slings, so cannot give any opinion myself.

Have you used a buggy board before? Mine lasted about 4 trips before I sold it for being rubbish to use.

It gets in the way when pushing a pushchair meaning you have to over-extend your arms and lean forward to push. OK every now and again but not every time. Maybe I just have short arms, but was not a sustainable position for me to use when out and about day in and day out.

Also makes a hassle out of folding up the buggy, since you have to disconnect the board each time. Not a problem if you leave yours up, but my pushchair goes in and out of the car boot daily.

Finally - my children didn't like it, so served no purpose anyway!

I've always turfed mine out of the buggy at 2 1/2. I would go for a double buggy until then. My best friend had a Phil & Teds and I loved her double. I have the Graco Stadium, which I wouldn't recommend 'cos it's so bulky. Cheap though, and fit Group 0 car seat.

YellowWellies · 03/12/2014 21:53

Fate I reckon my DS wouldn't take to the buggy board as you say. He's so kamikaze I doubt I'd get him to stay on it. Also given I regularly hang the shopping on the buggy bars so he couldn't use it - I reckon it'd be a waste of £50. Hmmm. Thank you for the wise words.

STIGZ · 03/12/2014 21:59

sazzle so glad about nedSmile a mothers instinct is priceless!

Round of applause magic on your successful bedtimeSmile
fate round of applause for your friend with 6 kidsShock

cj i think you can adjust it? It was only £8 so worth a try ?

FATEdestiny · 03/12/2014 22:04

Yellow, sorry to change the subject completely, but what car do you drive?

We've for a 7 seater zafera (?sp). No boot space with the back seats in use. We now have 6 in the family and often have several extras (grandparents, children friends, cousins etc) and I am thinking about getting one of those massive 9 seater minibus things.

I can quite see myself driving a van type car! Am I mad?

Not looked into it yet, but I bet they are really expensive to buy and run.

ohthegoats · 03/12/2014 22:26

How come a baby is alright in a 2.5 or 3.5 tog bag, when I have a 14 t8g duvet combo anf am still often chilly?

MundayCakes85 · 03/12/2014 22:59

Glad to hear people are having decent evenings. E is getting into the swing of naps but still loves a cluster-boobfest of an evening. Although we've been managing to eat dinner together a few times Smile
Today she head butted my chest and got all indignant, quite strong neck muscles apparently Hmm
Weighed her today at 7+3 and she's 11lb 6oz- loving her chubby thighs Grin
So happy to hear Ned is doing so well Sazzle he's a little star.
I'm off to try my first class tomorrow- baby massage, there are lots of classes near me in Dorset but a lot are aimed at the less fortunate hope I don't sound like a massive snob so won't be going to too many.

YellowWellies · 03/12/2014 23:24

Fate I don't actually drive - DH drives a ford fusion with the plan to get a kia sportage next year. I'm not sure about running costs of 9 seaters! As a cyclist / pedestrian I'm THE worst person to ask about cars Blush

Goats I think its because with a sleeping bag the 'duvet' is wrapped all round them rather than just laid on top that they can cope with a lower tog.

YellowWellies · 03/12/2014 23:26

Aaaahhhh thank god she's finally gone the f*ck to sleep. I love you poppet but Mummy didn't fancy a natter with an earnest gooing baby at 11.30pm. Bed!

Happytimes31 · 03/12/2014 23:50

pebble same birth plan and outcome here. Makes me cry even thinking about what would have happened had we been at home... Thank goodness we weren't!

bumpbangbump · 04/12/2014 00:09

Go to sleep please little bubba. Mummy is tired and would really like a nice big chunk of uninterrupted sleep, a few hours would do.

jemima1988 · 04/12/2014 00:23

bump
I feel for you my ds since being put down 2 hours ago has woke up 3 times for a bit of boob time. I feel myself praying for an hour ha

MundayCakes85 · 04/12/2014 05:06

2 giant rocks have replaced my boobs. But it's not bad as the little madam has somehow managed 6 hours!! Whoop whoop! Definitely a fluke Grin Hope as it's quiet everyone else persuaded babies to sleep. Smile

tattyblue · 04/12/2014 06:36

All you six hour people are like my shining beacons. Without you I would go insane, but I know that if I am very good and very lucky one day I might be among your number.

The infant just did a poo in her sleep and I lay there thinking, can I just pretend I didn't hear it?

pebble82 · 04/12/2014 07:11

Tatty, I've just had 7 hours! It is possible. I woke up before her in a panic so checked her breathing immediately! Babies are strange creatures. Changed her nappy and she must have pooed early on in the sleep marathon as it was all dried up and stuck to her bum. No harm done though. She clearly wasn't bothered.

We had a very positive night Smile Dylan went down for a nap at 7pm (he very rarely naps to new the evening!) He slept til 10 when we woke him for a nappy change and a feed. He then slept 11-5. Dh gave him a bottle and he was asleep by 5:30 and slept through til 7:30! Feeling very refreshed today.
great news about Ned sazzle! Really pleased he's doing so well!

ExcitedCJ · 04/12/2014 09:28

We got a 10 - 4:30 stretch & a 5:30 - 8:30! Feel like new. :)

ohthegoats · 04/12/2014 09:35

Just now while feeding her she did a massive poo and puked at the same time. That's just rude.

mrsb87 · 04/12/2014 09:39

Haha goats that happens frequently here. I thought it was just a grosse boy thing lol

fatpony · 04/12/2014 09:45

Blimey, got M down an hour earlier than normal, at 9pm and he did nearly six hours. A record for him and will prob never happen again! Shock Unfortunately I still slept badly and had to wake up at 1.30am to express due to painful boobs. He still woke at his usual 6.15 tho, my aim now is to try and push his night wake up time to 4am so that he would then sleep to 7am. I'm like Usain Bolt getting to the ipad to get the white noise going when he starts squeaking in the night-about 50pc of the time he'll shut up and nod off for a while longer.

pebble82 · 04/12/2014 09:52

Oh fatpony I know that feeling all too well. Mine's on my phone. The battery ran out once. Felt disarmed!

Tonight I'm going to try putting DD down in our bedroom after bath, massage and feed at 7.30pm to kick start a "routine". Will then use the video monitor and check in on her. Very nervous! I've never left her to sleep in a different room before now.

ohthegoats · 04/12/2014 11:01

Ah pebble ' that's what we're supposed to be doing, but I'm too nervous. Will spend the first few evenings of that sitting in the room with her I expect.
