Hi all, welcome to thread 2!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

V was seriously yellow after birth, even the whites of her eyes but always was below treatment line by quite a bit.

Thank you for the congratulations Mrme23 is chuffed. He's so good he sent me straight off to bed again after we ate as he is on a mission to make sure I get more than 3 hours of broken sleep a day.

V woke 1.5 hours ago bad for first hour was just fussing and not latching on was weird she's never done that before. Luckily she's now drained both boobs which were full so relieved! They were getting uncomfortable.

mrsb87 · 07/11/2014 03:23

Sooooo sleeeeeeepy. Really struggling to stay awake, I've got the lights really low to stop him waking up too much, trouble is its having the same effect on me. Hurry up Dyl, mumma wants to go back to sleep!

Of fedup we are having a particularly pukey night time. Once all over my knees once all over dh. Poor been is not comfortable tonight

YellowWellies · 07/11/2014 03:42

Fedup I'd get a small oral syringe (Boots sell them if you've none knocking around) like a 1, 2 or 5ml one and squirt small amounts into his cheek right at the back, blowing in his face gently to make him swallow. That's how we give Lil her ranitidine. She has to be sleepy to get the best acceptance of her meds - otherwise she can get, err, indignant? Hmm

Sorehead · 07/11/2014 04:13

So we've been trying Colief here- had it in three bottles now and it seems to be helping, but time will tell. I've been warned about explosive poos, so keeping my fingers crossed the first falls on DH's shift Grin

We still have some grunting and thrashing in the Moses basket, but he seems more comfortable after his feed.

Hope everyone is having a good night.

porcito · 07/11/2014 05:37

We had our last compulsory appointment with the government clinic today - so relieved! I'm never taking normal healthcare for granted again! Grin Baby now weighs 8lbs at 6 weeks, up from 5lb 3 at birth! Her permafeeds are at least working! Does mean she's bursting out of her teeny clothes so had to put them away Sad

Whippet81 · 07/11/2014 07:26

Only just found this thread! DS1 born 16th October - I haven't got a clue so rather anxious - he's really colicky so using infacol - he's only really sleeping 1.5 hours at a time so I'm up all night basically at the moment.

Also I'm unsure when to go to him - he doesn't cry unless hungry but sometimes makes some whiney type frustrated noises and I'm not sure if I'm being cruel to leave him unless sounding distressed to try and go to sleep.

Don't think I'm cut out for this Confused

You are doing a great job whippet! Please see the good thing in them only crying when hungry!!!
Omg my poor boy cries with tummy pain and I don't know what to do apart from cuddle and try to wind.
Hoping it will get better now I've finished antibiotics. Running out of things to try... Last night he didn't want to be lying on his back Confused

fedupofrainydays · 07/11/2014 08:27

Have we heard from slide?
Also we didn't hear from excitedcj after she was kept in hospital - so hope she's ok.

fedupofrainydays · 07/11/2014 08:37

yellow I've been using a Calpol syringe into his cheek and still goes everywhere!

Sorehead · 07/11/2014 08:42

whippet- firstly, congratulations! DS was born on 17th so we're at similar stages. We found infacol to not be much use (but it smells nice!) so we tried Colief yesterday and it seems to be helping so far. Someone has also recommended Dentinox colic drops too, or gripe water (although need to wait until they're 4 weeks for that). How long have you been giving infacol for?

YellowWellies · 07/11/2014 08:44

Wow only one night feed! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile Two 3.5 hour stretches - thank you sleepyhead and ranitidine.

fedupofrainydays · 07/11/2014 08:50

I think they should all be prescribed ranitidine if it has that effect!

YellowWellies · 07/11/2014 09:05

Actually a side effect is insomnia (I know! Confused ) but it seems to have her reflux under control so she's sleeping for longer.

sazzlehopes · 07/11/2014 09:20

Welcome whippet! You are cut out for this, but it's perfectly normal to doubt yourself once in a while too.

Can I ask those collecting milk when you feed do you like milkies or the medula collecting ones. Thanks!
We had a better night too. N will be 5 weeks tomorrow and I gave up dairy 2 weeks ago. He feed every 2 hours from 9 til 1 then woke at 3 but I wanted him to go longer so I let him sleep on me and he slept til 5!!! But we are much improved with how much time is spent in his snuzpod now. He seems a bit less snufferly too...who knows if it's the dairy thing but things seem to be improving a little...
Also definitely had my first real non wind related SMILE this morning! Was a heart breaker!

Thanks guys - I go from 'I can so this' to 'what the bloody hell have I done' within seconds.

I've never been around babies so it's all very new and I'm scared I'm going to break him. I had a c-section too so still a bit delicate.

He's been having Infacol for about a week. I'm not convinced it's doing a lot but will carry on until I see the HV.

He goes bright red at times like he can't breath. It's quite scary Confused. My DP is very chilled luckily so stopping me calling 999 on a daily basis.

Hi Whippet, yep definitely felt the same! My sister's jokey catchphrase re: parenting is "I'm not cut out for this shit!" and her kids are 9 and 15, and she's a great mum! We'll get there, you start to learn their "hungry" cues and you feel more confident. I havent been around babies much either so I'm learning all the time too. My mum showed me the pinky knuckle in the mouth to see if they nuzzle on it trick and often that's what I go with!!

Kirstipops · 07/11/2014 11:27

P.S. It's Medela milk collection cups I've been using which seem to do the job!

I was thinking about that Bump, I've got 90ml in the fridge and wondering if I should add some properly expressed milk to it to avoid what happened with you, that sounded awful :(

sazzlehopes · 07/11/2014 12:01

Thanks for all of that advice. I too was worried about the milk leaking just being the foremilk and therefore not the best for baby especially if we are already having reflux issues and green poo... Maybe it's ok if you collect and add it to give medicine and make sure baby gets the hindmilk too... I will research and see!
