Hi all, welcome to thread 2!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Sorehead · 02/11/2014 10:04

I'd love to know the answer to the wind/ colic question too- that's the problem we're having Sad

mrsb87 · 02/11/2014 10:06

sore he fell asleep at 6 and woke up at 9:30 so we had a decent sleep in!
Not sure if anyone can shed any light but he has been getting really fussy at the breast for the last 2 days which is getting increasingly irritating. What's he doing?!

MundayCakes85 · 02/11/2014 10:23

Sorehead DH was out from 12pm until 3.30am. I text him during the 2.30am feed and told him to come home. He's still asleep, but I'm still in bed with baby feeding so I think I'll get up soon and make lots of noise!! Grin
Might need to try the white noise app during the day.
Hope everyone got some sleep x

Me23 · 02/11/2014 10:29

We didn't have a good night less than 2 hours between waking and taking ages to go back to sleep. This morning OH took her upstairs so I had almost a 3 hour stretch of sleep so glad of that.

Thanks for the comments on the caboo I'm planning on going to john lewis later to try it out and hopefully purchase, is there a major difference between the nct and regular version?

mrs how is your Bp now? Have you started to wean off the meds yet? Are you seeing gp weekly? Mine had me cut down from 3 doses to 1 this week, I've been getting lots of headaches since I've been on meds it's a listed side effect of them but is also one of the pet warning signs so annoying but my Bp is ok so think they are due to meds and lack of sleep.

The experience of having pre eclampsia (thankfully no complications) has shook me up a lot not sure if it was worse because I know just how serious it can be but now so anxious about my health, and feeling generally anxious too I'm hope it improves soon.

fatpony · 02/11/2014 10:32

mrs snap on the age front, was yours born on the 10th?

Can I ask you all what you do about daytime naps? Ours has either been in his bouncer/bednest in the sitting room but the past few days he has been cranky/not sleeping deeply/wakes easily, perhaps because we've had lots of visitors. Might be overstimulated? I don't know whether to try the contended baby method (darkened, silent room - same place for every nap etc)...

mrsb87 · 02/11/2014 11:11

me I was told to keep taking them for another 4 weeks. I'm late taking it this morning, just checked my BP and it's on the low end of ok?! The doctor I saw seemed vague about it all to be honest. The pre eclampsia is very scary, it came on very quick with me too, no protein in urine and my BP was normal all the way through my pregnancy. I've managed to lower the painkillers considerably, only taking a couple of ibuprofen a day plus the nifedepine. Finished the antibiotics.
fatpony yes born on the 10th Smile he is being a right fussy knickers today, making me suffer now for sleeping so well last night!

Thanks bump I do want OH to use it and he is very tall so it sounds like the normal one would be better.

mrs sounds like your Bp is going back to normal you don't want it going too low though it may be a sign that it's time to start weaning off them.

V was born on 10th too!

YellowWellies · 02/11/2014 12:08

Fatpony that nap strategy sounds like it might trap you in the future? If baby gets programmed to only nap in a darkened room and the same place - you may struggle to get out of the house in a month or two. I've two pals who were house bound for 18 months by Gina Ford as their babies would only nap in their cots - so they could never come and join us at soft play, toddlers, bookbugs, baby massage etc if they clashed even slightly with nap times. I'd get a sling or take him out in the pram. For us its been better to get them used to napping with noise and in a range of places - I'm a strong believer in shape your baby to the world because you can't shape the world for your baby.

binkybunny · 02/11/2014 12:49

Eventful morning... more crying/ screaming/ wind griping, wee all over mummy during first nappy change, explosive poonami during second nappy change followed by wee all over daddy and our bed during nappy free time, sick all over mummy (including a pool at my elbow up my jumper sleeve) and sofa.

The only way we eventually managed breakfast at 12 noon was to put her in the bouncer with the 'magic button' on (vibrate). Going to try a shower now while DH makes up a bottle ready for the next feeding frenzy... knew I shouldn't have been so smug about the happy, no cry, lots of sleep baby we had last week!

In other news, it looks like I've just picked up a Close Caboo for £30 on the sling Facebook page Grin

fatpony · 02/11/2014 13:04

Thanks Yellow, yes I am cautious of that nap only in a darkened room thing. Hopefully he'll calm down tomorrow once visitors have gone. My parents just left (they were amazing guests, so helpful) and the in laws departing imminently. Neither sets are hard worl it's just the constant noise/photos/where can I find a teaspoon/iron/more loo roll...
Desp to have some alone time with DH and slob out in my pjs!

fedupofrainydays · 02/11/2014 13:15

I think establishing regular nap times a bit later on helps but not in the same place as you will go mental bring house bound! Gina ford is very incompatible with having a life!

After being the angel baby in front of everyone at the party last night - of course he's giving me grief today behind closed doors! Time to get the ergo out!

STIGZ · 02/11/2014 13:54

For babies with wind issues, gripe water is fab, i used it for my first dd. It can only be used in babies after 4 weeks, my lo will be 4 weeks on thursday so deffo will be purchasing some, it just seems to disperse the bit of wind that is making them sore. You can get it in superdrug & asda.

binkybunny · 02/11/2014 15:41

stigz counting the days til we can use gripe water, I've heard it's brilliant just 14 more to go Smile.

We have moved back to size two bottle teats and her post feed wind seems to be a lot better. A mw recommended not using size one at all because they suck in lots of air with the tiny hole, but Issy seemed to be drinking too fast with the twos and being sick. I think I prefer a bit of sick at feed time compared to hours of screaming!

She's sleeping lovely now, just managed to get the Christmas cake in the oven. We'll see how she gets on tonight!

STIGZ · 02/11/2014 15:50

I also have mam anti colic bottles, so far "she sleeps like a baby" and have had no major issues with wind yet, dont know if these bottles have anything to do with that? Or she just winds really well ?

fatpony · 02/11/2014 15:51

Goodness just remembered about the Christmas cake! Must find time this week as we like to feed ours with some alcohol for at least two months before Xmas.

mrsb87 · 02/11/2014 16:56

Thanks me . I'll make an appointment with the doctor for next week. I'll monitor it for a couple of days and write the results down to take with me. I did thing 4 weeks was a long time!
Our nap times during the week are usually in the living room so tv/radio is on, dogs mooching around and me buzzing around doing bits and pieces. He doesn't even wake up when the dogs go nuts when there's someone at the door.

Missus2ndwife · 02/11/2014 17:04

Can anyone explain why my baby sleeps beautiful during the day but comes 11.30pm/ 12am he gets all cranky and refuses to sleep until the early hours?? Momma needs her rest lol

Me23 · 02/11/2014 17:09

Ok I'm in john lewis, and the close caboo looks really complicated and they only have a demo one. So looking at th ergobaby looks easyier to use anyone have it and can advise?

sazzlehopes · 02/11/2014 17:19

Oh crap I'm an idiot when Ned was born he spent the first 4 days in special care, 3 of those on that special cooling mat so I was encouraged to pump and save my milk for when he could feed. I pumped loads and froze all the colostrum stuff - when he could eat they tube fed him my milk and then I bf as I was staying in hospital anyway. So now I just thought I wanted to give him all that colostrum ready for the winter but I've just realised that was before I gave up the dairy. Arse. I've only given 2 bottles, a few oz yesterday and just now. So hardly anything really. Do you think ive set back my no dairy thing by doing this? Or is that why my night last night was rough?!! At least i am dairy free still!

sazzlehopes · 02/11/2014 17:28

Me I have the ergo and I like it but I also have a wrap too which I like for different reasons. You'll get more long term use out of the ergo and I know lots of people here rate the newborn insert for the ergo...

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 02/11/2014 17:44

Me23 I love the ergo as it is soooooo easy - even when utterly sleep deprived and with a toddler hanging off me its on in seconds. Lilla loves it too - she's asleep in seconds and you can take her and the newborn insert (you'll need that with a newborn) out and pop her on the sofa and she stays asleep Smile Smile Smile

Sazzle sounds like you've may have proved dairy is the issue. Jonas could detect dairy in one stock cube containing lactose when I was BF - so they can be really sensitive to even tiny traces. Maybe give it a few days, try again and see if you get the same result?

Bumpforme2014 · 02/11/2014 18:56

Colic issues here as well and gripe water seems to help much more than infacol. Looking at wraps/carriers here too, I want one I can use long term doesn't ergo only go up to four months? Friend has hana wrap which she loves but DH doesn't think they are safe, saying surely they come loose!?

YellowWellies · 02/11/2014 19:13

No the ergo is good up to 40lb ie 4 years! Smile

mrsb87 · 02/11/2014 19:15

me I don't find the close caboo difficult at all and I'm easily confused!
