Hi all, welcome to thread 2!

badger I've just listened to official advice but then just doing what's right for him. We were told no swaddling, mattress must be flat etc and we tried those things but it just didn't work for us so we're doing it (safely) our own way.

Shirehobbit · 01/11/2014 13:46

Another vote for the Caboo, Me23 - I'm hypermobile with a bad back and have had no issues and DS just conks out in it Grin

STIGZ · 01/11/2014 14:12

The advice i was given first time was to wake dd1 every three hours because she was 5"11 and told me i can leave dd2 six hours.

The old school advice from family & friends is "never wake a sleeping baby" and " a sleep is as good as a feed"

Im not getting six hour stretches, sometimes five, feeling very blessedSmile

mrsb dylan is a handsome boy! Loving all the hair Grin glad he likes his pod

fedupofrainydays · 01/11/2014 15:06

Wow - 5 or 6 hour stretches seem ages away for us! 2 is the most really after finishing a feed!

Just been to a farm / soft play with DH and the boys. Am knackered and got that wedding tonight - ended up buying this silk wrap dress thing from new look which can easily pull to a side to get a boob out!

26mrstired · 01/11/2014 15:29

Hello! Hope you don't mind me joining- I've been a long-term lurker and never quite got round to posting before baby arrived. He is currently 5 1/2 weeks old (born a few weeks earlier than expected) and I'm starting to go a bit mad at home alone with dh back at work. We've been having lots of problems feeding but still trying with breastfeeding. Latest is screaming and crying inconsolably after every feed Sad. Am nearly at 2 weeks dairy-free with no signs of improvement sigh.

Re close caboo- we have it and it works brilliantly for dh and I. Only way anything gets done in the house at all! x

FrauEnglischLehrerin · 01/11/2014 16:42

fedup same here with the sleeping. Ds can be awake for 90 mins feeding and then settling and will wake an hour later. He sleeps better during the day though, which makes me wonder whether I should wake him to feed then.

I hate the uncertainty - should I let him go as long as possible during the day to encourage long stretches regardless of when they are? Or feed as often as possible during the day in order to avoid reverse cycling?

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 16:45

Mrstired Sad you should see an improvement after 2-3 weeks if the problem is dairy and if you're excluding everything (even dairy traces are you checking labels?), half of CMPI babies react to soya too (my kids both seem to). If after 2-3 weeks total exclusion of dairy and soy there's no improvement then I'd say you've ruled it out. It might not be perfect without medicine but you should notice an improvement if foods are the trigger when they are totally excluded.

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 16:49

Frau I always wake to feed during the day if its longer than 2.5 hours between feeds - last time it resulted in longer sleep at night but so far sleep longer than 3.5-4 hours is a mythical beast. Ah it'll come. But I'm having the same thoughts. Hmm

26mrstired · 01/11/2014 18:02

Yes, I've been label checking for dairy but haven't tried soya. The things they put milk in! So frustrating- all that batch cooking in pregnancy and stashed in the freezer currently out of use. I'll give soya a miss too and see if that helps- thanks for the advice. Health visitor sent us to the doctor for suspected reflux but they were distinctly unhelpful.

Wish I could add something useful in the discussion about waking to feed but he hasn't slept longer than a couple of hours straight yet- I would find it so hard to wake a beautifully sleeping baby though!

STIGZ · 01/11/2014 18:13

Is anyone still experiencing sweats 3 weeks after birth? Cant work out if mine are hormonal or a result of the urine infection ? Also how is everyones bleeding? T.m.i :- Mines is now watery brown stuff? Also anyone with a c/sec do you experience tenderness in lower stomach near pubic bone after you do a pee?

Im having a health anxiety panic, can you tell ? Sad

sazzlehopes · 01/11/2014 18:46

Stigz I still had sweats 3 weeks after birth but it's gone now at 4 weeks. My bleeding has varied loads depending on what I've done, too much walking etc but now at 4 weeks it's almost gone but I reckon I had watery brown at some point.

sazzlehopes · 01/11/2014 18:48

Those that have given infacol did you do it because your baby has reflux or just wind issues? I'm not sure whether to try that or just wait til I go to the doctors on Tuesday...

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 19:00

Sazzle don't give infacol for suspected reflux! It brings up great big bubbles of stomach acid, if you suspect reflux don't use it (my sister learned this the hard way) screaming baby agony can result Sad .

Stigz I'm only just losing the sweats at 5.5 weeks. Don't remember it lasting so long last time.

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 19:11

5 weeks off dairy, 2 weeks off soya and 4 days on ranitidine and we had our first night last night without reflux! I held her up for 30 minutes after feeds but it was sooooo nice to lay her in the bednest to..... silence - no grunting, slooshing, choking, coughing, bleating - she just slept. I reckon that was why we got our first good stretch of sleep. I do hope it continues.

OK I'm missing chocolate, tea, cheese, pizza, tiramisu, Chinese, Japanese, (not that I'm making a list), proper curry, did I mention cheese? But hell its worth it for knowing she's not in pain. And ultimately sleep trumps cake.

I hope it doesn't all kick off into reflux hell from week 6 (next week) until week 12 which is what happened with Jonas - but I'd not quit dairy until week 6 (I was in denial) whereas this time I did it straight out of hospital. Argh I'm so nervous for this week. Really want to avoid screaming colic awfulness Sad Sad Sad Sad

Kirstipops · 01/11/2014 19:38

Yep Stigz I'm 4 weeks today and still have the odd night of sweaty beastardness! Same kind of watery brown bleeding though now and again it's back to red, I wish it'd hurry up n bugger off, though I'd prob still have to wear my maternity pads since I don't trust my pelvic floor + sneezing fits yet :-/

I have a christening to go to tomorrow and can't be bothered at all, I have nada that is nice and bf-appropriate to wear!

Also looking at 4 week old Heidi tonight and thinking "Yaaaargh I'm responsible for you for the foreseeable future"Shock, I assume this is normal!!?

hefner · 01/11/2014 19:46

Stigz I'm still getting night sweats at three and a half weeks, yuck.

Yellow fingers crossed for you, hopefully you can avoid reflux hell this time as you caught it early.

DS is very unsettled after feeds at the moment and I keep worrying about reflux but I hope it's just a dodgy tummy from my antibiotics. He seemed better once I stopped taking the first course but we only got 2 days before I was back on them with another bout of mastitis Hmm.

Kirstipops · 01/11/2014 19:50

Oh and could the person looking for details of the FB group send me a PM, sorry I can't find your post, I only remember reading it in the early hours before conking out!

binkybunny · 01/11/2014 20:08

Thanks for the sleeping through advice, going to see if we can get 5 hours tonight and not wake her.

At the moment it seems unlikely, her colic/ wind gets quite bad at this time of night so we have a few hours of crying which is quite trying but she seems to settle down after the 10pm ish feed so I just keep looking forward to that while having a small glass of red wine (for anaemia of course Wink )

sazzlehopes · 01/11/2014 20:11

Thanks yellow. You are my reflux guru! I hope you don't get 6 weeks hell and you quitting the dairy early has paid off. I agree though sleep trumps cheese every time!! I will stay away from the over the counter drugs and wait to see what my doc says on tue and in the mean time preserve with the nondairy stuff

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 20:48

Thanks all. I'm just loving not having a 'broken' baby so far. I still shudder thinking of CMPI hell before we sorted out diet and meds with J. I vividly remember NYE 2012/13 trying to watch Lord of the Rings, sleep deprived as hell with DH, and J screaming, red faced, so loudly (for 6+ hours) that we had to have subtitles on, and both taking turns walking with him, rocking him, singing to him but nothing helped he was so so sore. We went outside to listen to the fishing boat horns sound midnight and he fair drowned them out. Miserable. We went to OOH next day, and by virtue of me bursting into tears, we finally got omeprazole.

I just don't want that again - there's nothing worse than being unable to sooth your child's pain.

Hefner ABs have always made J go nuts, am sure that's pretty common.

Smooshie85 · 01/11/2014 21:30

Don't worry Hefner we had a day of really dark poos because of the antibotics ! But it's gone back to yellow again. That sucks you have mastitis again, I'm not feeling any better and suspect an abscess! Just when I thought all the prodding and poking was over!
My lil one has collic so I'm giving infacol which seems to be helping in some way - he loves the taste of it!

STIGZ · 01/11/2014 21:52

Thanks girls for replying Grin

yellow so good to hear that Lil is heading in the right direction, im like you and dread it rearing its ugly head Haloween Sad such a shame for the poor wee souls.

kirstie its amazing how your life & priorities change for something you have had only a short time, not to mention the feelings of love you feel everytime you look at them, the love just grows every single day Grin each developmental stage is a once in a lifetime adventure

clairemiss79 · 01/11/2014 22:02

Stigz 4 weeks after c section and it hurts when i wee. My whole lower abdomen feels tender to the touch still and it still hurts to laugh! Is all this normal? i am walking about a lot though :)

binkybunny · 01/11/2014 22:43

5 hours of crying and still going, have tried all previously suggested winding techniques. DH manages to settle her, but if tries to put her down or hand her to me she screams again. Think its going to be a looooong night Sad.
