Hi all, welcome to thread 2!

OP posts:

she gave me a 3.5 hour stretch!!!! Waheeeeey. Its sad how grateful I am for this.

We've got a family photo shoot later of us lot and my sister's kids too. Maybe I won't look like I'm still in Halloween fancy dress. Blush

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 06:43

Happy I'm sure you've tried this but if your baby sleeps so well in the tilted crib during the day - could they sleep in it at night too?

Crikey thedogs...scary stuff! Hope you feel better for bit of a rest & take advantage of the help while you can!

fedup..I don't wipe the nipple after using jelonet.

munday...defo been there with the shit squirting out onto a cream carpet! I sue a bissell foam carpet drain remover from amazon, with an upholsterers brush & a bowl of water...spray the foam, scrub/rub with the brush, rinse with brush & water & dab with kitchen roll...hoover once dryer. Smell isn't bad either from this product. Will try to find the link.

I'm on the fenugreek tabs & seeds as well as oats to get my milk supply up...last baby & all so giving bfing one last big shot!

MundayCakes85 · 01/11/2014 08:20

Thanks Granny and others for suggestions. Put Vanish foam on and gave it a scrub. Will Hoover later and see what the damage is. She looked so sweet afterwards when clean and dressed,!

fedupofrainydays · 01/11/2014 08:30

Not a bad night here but still feel horrendous!

puppythedog · 01/11/2014 09:02

My suggestion for your carpet is treat it like a fabric. Grab some of your washing powder or liquid and 'soak' the stain bit with a strong concentration of detergent, bit of elbow grease after and hour or so. Also I think Oxi is effervescent but not bleachy so that might agitate the stain if this doesn't work. There's a section on here with good advice for such things.

I have just had a lovely Blub listening to "white wine in the sun" by Tim Minchin and holding my beautiful daughter in my arms.

bumpbangbump · 01/11/2014 09:06

Gosh dogs hope that doesn't happen again!

Shit shower has happened here a couple of times but managed to avoid the carpet.

Had a bit of a mixed night. Fed really regularly but as she was in with me I was able to doze through feeds and have no real idea of how often we were up. I'm desperately trying to increase my supply so I can start giving a full feed in a bottle. I think she mist be guzzeling about 8oz per feed though so getting enough is proving difficult. I expressed 6oz yesterday and gave her 4. She downed that like an alcoholic with a special brew and was demanding boob straight after. This morning I fed her and then got up and expressed another 4oz out of one boob. If the pump can get 4oz, how much can she get? She wpke up about 15 minutes ago and is happily chomping on the book I expressed from!

Happy weekend ladies and gent. Hope you all have a good one.

Just thought I would update you guys on our pod adventures! It arrived yesterday and Dylan loves it! We use it for downstairs sleeping (he hated his moses basket!). He's gone from waking the second I put him down to sleeping 3 hours :-) he is super snug in his pod

We've had to use Rug Doctor cleaner on the sofa a few times after projectile vomit, it's worked really well. At the 6am feed I realised we'd left a huge patch of it yesterday when running out of the door and the sofa now smells of rotten milk Sad. Will be washing and trying to dry sofa cushions (in the rain) today then Hmm

Does anyone know when it's ok to let a baby sleep through the night? DH woke Issy up at 2am this morning as she'd gone 5 hours without a feed, it just feels such a shame to have to wake her!

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 10:11

Binky night wakings are a protection against SIDS as they are more at risk from sleep apnoea if in very deep sleep (one of the reasons they are naturally designed to wake in the night) - I'd be wary of letting her sleep right thru for the first month or two just in case as that's when the risk is highest. FF allows a deeper sleep in the first couple of months but that is why the SIDS risk is higher (there's nothing bad in FF that causes SIDS both FF and BF are vulnerable, it just knocks them out more as more energy is required to digest formula). Also for hydration (less so in winter), I'd probably not go beyond 5 hours between drinks for her.

And bicarb of soda removes baby vom aroma from fabric. Sprinkle on, leave for an hour - then hoover off. Smile

BadgerInBury · 01/11/2014 10:28

Binky, I asked my MW about this and she said let the baby sleep as long as she wants to. They'll let you know when they need to feed, esp once past the very new sleepyhead stage and has learned to cry when hungry. If you're nervous then set an alarm for five and a half hours but as the MW says, baby needs sleep to process and grow and it's a blessing if you get to sleep in!

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 10:37

I do wish MWs would be consistent! I've always been told wake after 5 hours in the first 2 months - maybe because my babies have been small and prem? Though BF so a lower SIDS risk? But I guess more likely to dehydrate? Hmm Confused

puppythedog · 01/11/2014 10:43

Without any science behind it, I/we could tolerate up to five hours, more would worry me, if she woke and fed a bit (she would if I woke her at five hours) and wanted to sleep again then bonus Grin

YellowWellies · 01/11/2014 10:48

I'd struggle to go 5 hours without a drink at night. Other than now obviously. Now I could probably sleep 48 hours without a drink! Smile

puppythedog · 01/11/2014 11:05

Five is out outside limit, I let her go four and a half the other day but was getting close to waking her up when she woke up. Again no reasoning behind this so interested to see if we should behave differently. Most of this hypothetical because she has only once done that!

hefner · 01/11/2014 11:13

Glad you had a good night yellow, your entrance made me laugh! It's sad how grateful we are for a few hours sleep!

MrsB I'm glad Dylan is enjoying his pod. Mine is arriving on Monday, can't wait! Did you get the toddle or poddle pod? I think Dylan is a similar size to my ds and I went for the toddle pod, hope it's not too big.

hefner · 01/11/2014 11:18

I used to set alarms to wake dd (first child) but that was because she wasn't gaining weight and wouldn't wake for feeds. I haven't set any alarms this time as ds wakes often enough - sometimes up to 4 hours, sometimes a lot more often. I wouldn't want him to go much more than 5 hours but if he did sleep through I wouldn't notice until the morning as I'd be fast asleep too!

mrsb87 · 01/11/2014 11:21

hefner it's the toddle. He fits in the little dip lovely and snug :-) he has puked on it once already lol

puppythedog · 01/11/2014 11:43

Just ordered the Poddle Grin

hefner · 01/11/2014 12:14

Yes MrsB I'm sure it won't be long before ds pukes on his, he's been sick 4 times already this morning, although he kindly timed the one in my hair for just as I was about to get in the shower which was lucky!

Me23 · 01/11/2014 12:20

The peak for SIDS is from 2-4 months.
yellow I would have thought mw was telling you to wake baby due to baby being prem.
personally I would be happy to let a healthy term baby who had fed well throughout the day to sleep for six hours. (Forget happy at this stage I would be over the moon)
V slept for a 4.5 hour stretch last night ??

mrs what is a toodle? Is it a mattress?

I've been looking at slings need my hands back! I do suffer with bad back and need a very simple and affordable one. The close caboo seems to fit the bill on paper, anyone tried it and had views on ease of use and if it hurts your back? We are going shopping so might buy one today.

BadgerInBury · 01/11/2014 12:29

Agree that it's frustrating when the advice is inconsistent - like being taught to swaddle BB in the hospital and then being told in no uncertain terms to never swaddle by CMW and HV. Or to never co-sleep and that co-sleeping is important for milk supply and night feeds... I guess the important thing is to get all the advice, weight everything up then trust your instinct and make your own decisions!

mrsb87 · 01/11/2014 12:44

me it's a mattress. I'll post a link in the Facebook group.
I have a close caboo and find it really easy to use. I've not tried it for breastfeeding yet. I've used it for dog walking and food shopping and he sleeps the whole time!
