rumpel- Calpol at the ready as LO has injections tomorrow!
Our shopping centre is bluewater and it has fantastic baby centres- have only been to look inside one though.

'A child against all odds' a great programme, makes me feel very lucky to have Samantha.

Seem to have settled back to sleeping through the night we had 10pm-7am last night. I think I am lucky at the moment. Injections are bound to unsettle her..............

EmilyTurner · 04/12/2006 12:39

Hi everyone

Longtime no chat. I posted I ended up back in hospital with Zach on day 4 as he had jaundice and he wouldn't feed. Thought I'd cracked breastfeeding after a four day stay in there but, alas, got mastitis on day 18 and still have it. Am on second course of antibiotics. Have left me wrung out. Now doing mixed feeding (but mainly bottle). Boobs are KILLING!

He is cute though. At three weeks he has regained the 19oz he lost in the first 4 days. He is about 11 pounds. I know, giant baby.

Sleep is a prob though. He likes to be held at night at the moment. Last night he was awake every hour and a half. OH HELP!

marthahm · 04/12/2006 13:08

poor you emilyt. mastitis sounds like the worst and i know being on antibiotics is shattering without sleep deprivation. we have the same problem of Hope only sleeping if she's on one of our chests-not a good nights sleep! end up competing for who is most tired, me or dh.
anyone else considering not giving their baby the vaccinations? -please, no lectures, i know all the arguments for and against...
thank you everyone for advice re h crying when feeding. considered thrush miliee, could be,although she only seems to start doing this from 4pm generally. i think it might be reflux as we stopped the gaviscon because it was making it diff for her to poo. am trying to get apt with dr to see what they think and maybe get ranitidine which is less awful

mummypossum, are you still looking for a snow suit ? I have a dark blue fleece all in one, zips up the front, has fold over hands and feet,it is age 0-6 months but will be too big for my petite dd for a while yet so I've just got a mini size one.

youngmum21 · 04/12/2006 15:09

hi all,

No ive asked for advice before on the bleedng situation but need some more i had dd the weeks ago and my bleeding had stopped apart from alot of dicharge went out for an hour on sat and ive started bleeding again, this has happened before but has usually stopped by the next day but this time im still bleeding and it still bright red and it has a slight smell and i feel a bit achy like when you have a period. cud i have an infection?

EmilyTurner · 04/12/2006 15:27

Young mum - any fishy smell or grey brown discharge is a sign of infection. Get your midwife/health visitor or GP to look at your pad.

I grazed with Molly and with Zach. I got a horrid infection with Molly and the smell started off slight and then it was absolutely horrendous!

youngmum21 · 04/12/2006 15:30

well it doesnt really smell fishy and the discharge wasnt grey or brown, just the bleeding bright red but it not really heavy?

Do hv look after us mums aswell then i thought they were just for our los????

Gingeme · 04/12/2006 17:32

Good afternoon Mums. Have had a good weekend as my parents have been down so Ive been getting lots of help. lo did projectile vomits twice this weekend and has been realy struggling with his botles. I was using Tommee Tippee bottles with medium flow teeta. Went out today and bought Avent ones with slow flow teats and a miracle has occured. A much happier settled baby. ds3 has a horrid cough and cold and has been off nursery today. Just hope he doesnt give it to lo. Apart from that all is well. Got our 6 week check up tomm at 12. Do they weigh lo at the check up? Cant remember. Well take care will see you on the 11th.

Swizzler · 04/12/2006 17:33

W has his jabs on Wed - will stock ip on Calpol in advance. Yes, we are doing the regular immunisations - living in London, there are a LOT of diseases about and IMO any effects of the jabs are better than getting the illness itself. The TB jab was optional, but there is a high level of TB in Hackney so I thought it would be a good idea.

W getting into the habit of feeding loads then settling with great difficiulty at night. Trying to get into a bedtime routine, but difficult to get him to stop feeding long enough for a bath! He's had several good naps today, though, so hopefully more settled tonight (asleep at the moment ).

MEET-UP: Could you let me know if you're coming and I'll book a table. Would 12:30 be OK, or would you prefer later? Venue: Pizza Express nr Oxford Circus - will post map later if I can find one.

We'er venturing into Central London tomm to show W off to my office - planning on lunch at the National Gallery and quick trot rounda few pictures (baby permitting) then off the Neal's Yard to buy lots of unpateurised cheese . Wish me luck!

Swizzler · 04/12/2006 17:35

Gingeme: I had 2 6wk checks, one for me and one for the baby. We both got weighed at our respective checks

EmilyTurner · 04/12/2006 17:40

Youngmum

HVs are there for welfare of mother and baby. They do your PND checks, etc. So you can talk to them about your worries and they will probably tell you to go to GP.

marthahm · 04/12/2006 17:54

swizzler, i'm definitely coming.12.30 is great

nicand2 · 04/12/2006 18:36

What a day. Lo now has a full blown cold and when he woke up this morning he was breathing really hard so i whipped him down to the doctors who said he had mild bronchilitis but wasn't bad enough o be admitted but when we got home he coughed for 10 minutes and really struggled for breath and I was nearly crying it was so scary. Ds1 has also played up, gothold of the washing up liquid and appeared to drink it so i had to call NHS direct!

Also have 6 week check tomorrow.

Youngmum - re sma white, talk to your hv, mine suggested waiting a few weeks as normally it's recommended if lo's are taking loads of milk but still not satisfied but after a few weeks she told me to give it a try as lo was only taking small amounts of milk but every couple of hours so we've been trying it at night times.

Yes 12.30 is fine for meet up. Is that the same Pizza Express as last time? Looking forward to it. Off to bed now. Goodnight all

majormoo · 05/12/2006 09:32

morning all. Have been staying at my parents since Wednesday so not been near a computer, so have LOADs to read up on. Had a nice time despite the annoying attitude my parents have to breastfeeding such as 'that baby is getting too old to be breastfed' (he was 6 weeks!), you should put him on a bottle he will get less wind, you should express your milk and mix it with water so he gets less and you can control what he takes etc. AAAH Drives me bonkers but they were the same with DD. My best friend said I should tell them I am going to breastfeed him til he is 3!!

DS is massive though, which is why they think I feed him too much. He was weighed at 6weeks and was 13lbs8. He is right at the top of the scale for weight, but off the top of the chart for height, so all in proportion. DH and I are tall so not a huge surprise. If he continues at this rate he will be 6ft5!!
will try to read through posts some time today but hope everyone is doing well.

clon · 05/12/2006 14:09

Hello all

Its been ages since I've had time to log on and catch up with you all, I'll have to have a good trawl through the link.
I've been battling with Megan over daytime naps, she just won't go to sleep unless I rock her and refuses to settle in her crib. Nightime she is brilliant and managed a record stretch of 6 hours last night. YAY!
We have been inundated with visitors and I suspect Megan has now got used to being picked up and cuddled too much during the day. We are so needing time to ourselves, I'm more exhausted with the visits than with Megan. Yesterday I was weepy for the first time and I just think the never ending stream got the better of me.
I would love to be at the meet up on Monday, I'm a bit worried about battling to Oxford Circus though so will have to see how brave I feel, due to all the visitors I haven't been out much so have yet to build up my confidence beyond the local park!
Sorry my first post back is a whinge

Know what you mean about visitors, Clon. Took W into the office today and he objected to all the people and noise - lots of grumpiness and a few yells. He liked the National Gallery though and happlily snoozed through lunch and a quick walk round a few pictures. The lasy straw was M&S - he got too hot in the sling and yelled his head off! Now happy to be home again and kicking and smiling away. I'm exhausted!

MEET-UP: Trawling through the posts, the following seem to be OK for the 11th:
Gingeme
Marthahm
Pmoore
MummyPossum
Jmcmugwump
Squiffy
Clon (possibly)
And me, of course!

That makes 8 - any further takers?

Gingeme · 05/12/2006 18:41

Hi ladies. Wow never heard of parents being like that about bf before if anything mine are the opposite. Was worried about telling them I was giving it up. Went for my 6 week check up today. Didnt realise it was just for me. When Ihad ds3 we had the check up together. Got lo's on the 15th. Which they call his 'development check'. All you lucky ladies with lo's sleeping loads at night. EDward seems to wake bang on 4 hours after each feed now hes on formula which is usualy 1 and 5 am. We say his pooh is like toxic waste now too. No one offers to change his nappies anymore. Well off for my dinner now lo's had his.

Gingeme · 05/12/2006 19:10

I had a mind once. Now I have small children!

Got my last mum & baby group this afternoon. Don't know if I mentioned we were taught baby resusitation and choking last week- if anyone gets the opportunity to go it is well worth while. [gsmile]
