i might try sitting him in his chair then.

We r using cow & gate premium now, we were using sma gold & the HV suggested changing 2 a different 1 as sma gold can b quite rich, I think thats what she said, it did seem 2 help a bit tho! x

jmcmugwump · 28/11/2006 16:43

Went for a lovely walk today with the pushchair which LO seemed to enjoy - she was awake throughout looking around and very content

Youngmum, sorry to hear you and dp are struggling a bit - these first few weeks are the worst, and now I am at 7 weeks they seem so long ago - it will get better - you just have to hang on in there and you will find it just gradually gets easier as LO settles down and as you get more used to them - I think sleep depravation is probably not helping you much - can you do the feeding on a rotation basis? even if you are bfing dp can feed lo a bottle of ebm? You can then have a reasonable stint of sleep (with the aid if ear plugs if necessary) and then next feed is your turn so dp can have a rest. Good Luck!!

11th is OK for me BTW

Swizzler · 28/11/2006 16:48

We're having probs with colicky screaming baby as well - part of the problem is that he's settling down for th enight at widly different times at the moment - some nights he's asleep from 7:30/8pm, others he won't settle till 11pm or midnight. Asleep at the mo - had BCG jab today and has been tired and grumpy.

Had 6 week check - W is huge! Now 12 lb 12 and at about the 90th percentile - when he was born he was at the 25th . Anyway, he's healthy and normal (acc to the GP) so no worries there.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, Gingeme and Catgirl. Support for bfing isn't easy to find, despite all the health professionals telling you it's the best option. Gingeme: you've done really well to get this far considering all the problems you've had. Hope things settle down soon.

W still taking EBM from a bottle at night - just - so will carry on as it does help him settle. Only problem is that it means my boobs are pretty swollen in the mornings - managed to express 7 oz from one boob first thing this morning . I feel like a cow!

Yes, I can make the 11th. Looking forward to it . And I get my John Lewis fix .

youngmum21 · 28/11/2006 16:51

bendy- mite ask the hv next time she come about the formula then see wot she says!!!

jmc- im bottle feeding lo but it not really fair for dp to get up in the nite when he has to go to work, so he just going to help with the weekend nite feeds so i can rest then!!

Am trying to rest in the day but lo is only sleeping for short periods and normally it only if im holding her then as soon as i put her down she wakes!!!

When are people ntroducing routines by the way?

Rumpel · 28/11/2006 17:12

Hi All,

HV was here today and my LO is 8lb7- she is 8 wks old. Most of you guys LOs are heavier even though they are younger. I am positive she has hollow legs as she doesn't stop eating! No kidding from 4pm to 10 she just eats constantly. I started giving her aptamil for 1 feed about 3 weeks ago and upped it to 2 feeds last week - where does she put it? She has grown a lot length wise but is quite thin - obviously take after Daddy as I am a chubb!

She gets her first innocculations on Thursday - am quite worried about it. Just in case she feels poorly afterwards.

Spoke to HV about giving up using right breast as it is always sore(despite trying every position known to woman) just need to see how it goes as there is a possibility that milk production might reduce in left one too as brain can't differentiate between two apparently.

My LO sleeps usually from 11pm - about 6ish. She rarely sleeps during the day at all though. If she has a sleepy day (happened twice) she will awake 2-3 times in the night - growth spurt.
She is trying so hard to talk - it is very funny .

Was very brave yesterday - Lo and I went out to shopping mall and I fed her in a cafe!! This is a big step as where I was is chav-city and hardly anyone breastfeeds there! Feeling more confident about being able to do it discreetly now!

PrettyCandles · 28/11/2006 19:19

Mellin - are you sure your LO's nappy rash isn't thrush?

For those of you with windy unsettled babies, try reversing the rouitne: instead of feed - sleep - play, try sleep-feed-play, ie waking them to feed, rather than feeding them to sleep. That way they get more upright time after the feed and aren't distressed by time spent cleaning up sick and bringing up burps causing them to be over-tired by the time they eventually go to sleep.

Hi everyone

lo is 5 weeks tommorrow - where has that time gone!!??!!

dd1 is getting a lot better with me, although she has started to wet herself quite regularly - difficult to judge how far to discipline as it is obviously a reaction to megan, after, all the sending to bed, screaming routine, we are gonig to try just ignoring it, telling her that it is naughty, but just change her and not bring any attention to it ... will keep you updated!

Am counting down weeks until megan goes through the night!!!! dd1 was 9 weeks, so 4 left to go!!!!!

Apart from that, I am coping a lot better than I ever imagined I would with 2, my only problem now is that I can only fit into a couple of pre-pregnancy trousers, can't afford to buy new ones (simply refuse to buy larger size too!) Can go back to gym next week so hopefully it won't be too long. How different this is to after i had dd1 - was back in my normal trousers within a week!!!!! Hate not fitting stuff!

Oh well - I'll get there I'm sure!

agrimum · 28/11/2006 23:34

At nearly five weeks LO has now passed her birth weight, put on 5 ozs since Thursday. This mix of BFing and formula is certainly working for us. Bathed at 6, fed and in cot by 7 and will have to wake her now at 11.30 for a feed I think. Definitely think mixing feeding is the way forward if you are struggling with hungry baby, half the guilt and a more pleasurable time with LO.

We had our first Cranial osteopathy appointment today, hopefully 3 treatments should sort out the colic and hiccups, has anyone else tried it?

totallyfloaty35 · 29/11/2006 08:41

AGRIMUM,my baby has had 2 visits to cranial osteopath, they really helped, she had 1st visit when she was a week old and has slept through the night ever since,on her 2nd visit it sorted out her colic so now she only cries if hungry.I would really recommend it.Its a very gentle therapy and babies seem to enjoy it

nicand2 · 29/11/2006 10:13

Tried the sma white last night and lo did go 4 hours, the only problem was I was so tired I did his last feed at 9.30 so still ended up doing feeds at 1.30 and 5. It's not the getting up as much but lo takes at least an hour to settle back down and it's really getting hard now. Me and dh are getting really snappy with each other after nearly 6 weeks of broken nights.

I am going to go straight to a cranial oesteopath as soon as we've moved to see if it will help. lo still has bump on his head from unsuccessful ventouse so I'm sure it will help - ineresting about the hiccups part of the hour spent settling lo at night is because of the hiccups but I didn't realise the cranial osteopath could do anything about that???

Swizzler · 29/11/2006 13:01

Milliee: W was waking every 2 hours on the dot until about a week ago. What helped for us was introducing a bottle of EBM at our bedtime - he usually goes for about 3-4 hours after this, then back to the normal 2 hrs. Or it could be that he was just ready to start sleeping a little longer - he is awake far more during the day.

W noe getting v chatty - he seems to find a new sound every day Also kicking and waving his arms about most of the time he's awake - prob trying to grow some more!

PrettyCandles · 29/11/2006 14:39

Millie (sorry aout getting your nMe wrong) have you rtried Moltex Oko nappies? They are brilliant because no bleach, no latex, no lotions, minimal gel - very good for babies with exzema and allergies. We use d to use them, would still if they weren't so expensive comapred to ordinary disposavles.

Gingeme · 29/11/2006 18:41

Good evening ladies. Still dont know how much lo weighs. Went to the clinic today ready for 1.30 to discover it was shut. We were told it was open every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. Isnt that today? We werent the only ones though another Mum turned up just after we got there looking just as confused. Stii weve got our 6 week check up on the 5th so hopefuly they will weigh him then. Im free for the 11th by the way. What time and where exactly?

Silly question - how do you use the olive oil? Do you just rub it in like a shampoo, and how long until you comb through with nit comb? Megan hasn't got cradle cap yet, but has got very dry flakey skins so am waiting for it!!! Also any tips on how to get baby to burp??!!! It can take up to an hour!!! We rub her back, pat her back (which at 4am turs into a whack!!!! ) lay her down, tip her up, change her nappy, leave her to lay, keep moving her, put her over our shoulders, swear at her, plead with her, offer her money ... nightmare!!!!!!!!!! All she does is sit and sleep with that lovely slumped back and squished up face !!!!

SkinnyLiz · 29/11/2006 23:43

Hi I'm new on MN. Am single mum to ds born 5th Oct. just popped in to say hi, off to bed now but will be back soon. got hooked on this site so prob be around a lot!!

catgirl · 30/11/2006 09:03

morning, and welcome SkinnyLiz.

Girgygale: hope your dd's behavior improves soon - this happened to a friend of mine (dd wetting herself on arrival of ds - her dd was around 3.5), HV advised putting her back in nappies for a while - can't remember how old your dd is though.

Think bf-ing is going to naturally wind down now - it is just sore on the right side every time now, the left is hit and miss. A shame in one sense as we are at my in laws for Xmas, with first and last night in a hotel, so bf-ing would be so convenient, but there is no way I could/would get my supply up by then. I have done it for far longer than I thought I would, and in lots of places too !

Both ds' had cranial oeasto and seemed to help ds1 with teething. No real problems with ds2, but as his birth was so quick, I just wanted him checked over. My mother thinks I have too much money!!

re winding - we used to spend ages winding ds1, ds2 seems better at it (so far), but middle of the night is worse - probably as they are tired too. Our fab childminder recommended prodding under the ribs, while they are either sitting on your lap or over shoulder - you know what I mean? This irritates so gets them wiggling, which in turns moves the wind around - rather than a nice soothing back rub! Works sometimes, sometimes back rub works! One thing I do is if I am not sure if there is still wind there, is to lie ds2 flat, either in my hands, on lap, floor wherever, and he will really wiggle and bring his knees up if he still has wind, and sometimes that gets it moving too, so when I then move him upright we get a great burp/fart - hope that makes some sense!

catgirl · 30/11/2006 09:06

gingeme - on your behalf - know exactly how you feel.

Gingeme · 30/11/2006 09:40

Oh my goodness what a night/early morning. lo was settled after a bottle and good few burps by 10 last night so after Im a Celebraty thought Id make the most of it and go to bed as dh was down the pub. I layed there willing myself to go to sleep. Did eventualy at 11. 2am lo wakes for his next bottle so gave him it with a lovely burp in between but he realy struggled with the rest. I gave him some Infacol and almost the rest of his bottle. Then took till 5.15am to burp him. dh woke at 4 to help thus patting and rubbing him too which resulted in a few more little burps. Didnt help him turning to my boobs every now and then so I started crying due to guilt/hormones.Finaly settled at 5.30. Didnt help ds3 having a cold and waking at 6.15. Luckily dh went into his room with him and settled in bed with him giving lo some more sleep where lo still is now. Dh is at the docs now booking his snip. Thank goodness

catgirl · 30/11/2006 09:48

Gingeme: let's hope those nights are rare, myds1 also has a cold/cough which is waking him - it's the pits isn't it. Why are you on here - you should be catching up on your sleep.

I have my 6 week check today, and will be asking about dh getting the snip too - he is quite keen! .

Gingeme · 30/11/2006 10:17

Cant sleep while dh not here. He is however back now but Im already washed and dressed. Going to get lo some slow flow teets today. Hes got meduim flow ones which I think is making him so windy. Dh has been docs and will hear from the hospital within the next 3 months and hes got some tablets to stop him smoking. He has to make sure theyre ok with his work first though as hes a driver on the Underground and has to report all medicines hes taking. Anywya lo waking up now so Ill say ta ta for now. Take care ladies. xxx

Gingeme · 30/11/2006 10:18

Oh catgirl tell your dh they dont 'cut' these days its all done by laser. Bloody typical men get the best of everything he he.

Rumpel · 30/11/2006 10:49

Hi All,

Gingeme - bad night for me too, up at 3am-5, then 6.30, tried to get back to sleep to no avail. Makes you very clumsy and stupid the next day!

Welcome skinnyliz -are you still skinny? I am a chubb at the mo'! Too hard to resist all the goodies around at the moment. Will need to get a grip of myself in the new year!

Millee - try website Butterbur and sage and order your own base products and make up your own products - that's what I do. You can buy titanium dioxide, glycerine, silk gel all sorts. Or you could try aromantics - they give you info on how to mix products or try Burt's Bees or Green People products to save you the hassle of making up your own.

My Lo has her first jags today hope she is feeling okay afterwards. Am a bit worried about it as she is quite thin and will probably feel it quite a lot. Also hoping the pram doesn't blow away as it is blowing a gale up in Scotland today!!

What baby carriers would you recommend everyone?
