Fantastic news emily - well done. Fingers crossed for youngmum

Gingeme · 13/11/2006 11:37

Well done Emily. Congrats on your birth of baby Zachary. Yes it is frustrating isnt it purpleuce when lo seems to have been feeding what seems like constantly and not putting weight on. Makes you wonder what your doing wrong. Oh the guilt of motherhood . Its bloody raining now and I got to pick ds3 up at 12. There is something to having summer babys.

right, lets see if i can start over on the post natal thread lol.

congrats to everyone thats had their lo's

i hope that every1 is doing well

baby anna will be 2 weeks old on wedensday. and i am glad to report that i no longer feel like ive been kicked in the fanjo and my wee doesnt sting anymore!! its interesting that the post birth stuff is the bit that none of us get told about

Gemmity - i agree with ehat your saying about well meaning family members constantly wanting to cradle the baby...its bloddy annoying.almost as if they think the baby is a doll or something. i sympathise completely

how often is every1's baby feeding??

Rumpel · 13/11/2006 13:29

Hi All well done emily and popsi

GINGEME - my LO used to do that all the time - suck, fall asleep, it took 51/2 weeks for her to regain her birthweight (I started getting DH to give her 1 formula feed at 7pm when she was 41/2 weeks)and now she has she is a much better feeder. HV said due to more energy, she also sleeps during the day for a couple of hours now, which she never did before, as she is more relaxed and less hungry. I gave her a dummy at 2wks as her sucking reflex is very strong, she was sucking her fingers at 2 days old - apparently they are born with this reflex to 'self-soothe'. Wish I had let her continue with the finger sucking but I didn't know!! Having to replace dummy is tedious.

PURPLELEUCE - took my LO 51/2 weeks to regain birthweight so don't beat yourself up. She fed constantly too - resorted to 1 formula feed a day.

TOTALLY - my HV recommended aptamil as it is more like breast milk and my LO has been fine on it.

JUSTERS - I had an internal last week - short check and it was fine - no pain. Have a postnatal booked next Friday (7wks post birth) so will let you know how it goes (you might have yours before of course).

Managed to do some exercises today - just a few as am feeling like a lardy cottage cheese pie!Going shopping on boxing day so want to be able to fit into some decent clothes.

Was reading in The Sunday Times yesterday about a breastfeeding wrap to provide you with privacy - they come in various colours - look quite nice. Kinda like a poncho with a split in it. Breastfeeding in public - don't feel confident enough yet. Managed to make it out for quick lunch on Saturday, however left when LO started grumbling! Place was empty though so wouldn't have minded feeding her in there.

Off to baby clinic now to get her weighed - she is now in 0-3 months clothes having finally outgrown the teenytiny stuff.

Incidentally ordered a lovely 3D casting kit from ebay last night to make 'bronze' casts of her hands and feet for Granparents and us and to make a tree decoration for her to keep when she leaves home!

Ok I've now made a promise that this will be the last week of not getting out and sitting on the sofa with c beebies on. I came to this decision after ds1 who is 2 started recognising the adverts (the vicks one where the mum throws the tantum, he put his hands over his ears before the mummy starting screaming!)and the weather presenters this morning and I now feel like such a terrible mummy, he has had such a rubbish time being stuck indoors all the time.

Rumpel - my lo is 3 weeks old and just about to go into all the 3-6 month clothes, some of the 0-3 stuff didn't fit him at birth and I had such lovely stuff which hasn't been worn now, it's such a waste.

Wuzzlefraggle - lo is feeding every 2-3 hrs (4oz) I'm a bit worried he's having too much but he's rarely sick so I guess it's right for him - hence the move to bigger clothes!!

wuzzlefraggle · 13/11/2006 14:30

same here-ish with feeding. bout every 2 to 3 hours.

its mt first day with dh not here today (hes back in work today) which is a bit strange, but alls going well.

ok, so who manages to keep their housework under control with a newborn??

Sunshine78 · 13/11/2006 14:36

Hi I stopped posting ages ago as work banned private use of internet and I could never be bothered to get lap top at home! I had a little girl (well 8lb14oz) on 7 Oct which was a little late but she didn't hang around once she decided to come! Am manaing to breast feed this time although felt a little disheartened this week as she only put on 4oz which according to the health visitor is a bit low - this info has made me feel a bit low which is why I got the lap top out in search of some moral support. Hope you are all well xx

clon · 13/11/2006 16:44

Hello all

I'm a bit rubbish at finding the time to post on here but Megan is sleeping now so got a min to myself.
Wuzzle it's my first day on my own too being dh's first day back at work, I really miss him, we've had a lovely 2 weeks of family time.
Megan is 2 weeks and 2 days today, she put on 14oz when she was weighed on Wednesday so feeding well.
She has started to throw up a bit, does anyone have advice on that, does it mean she's guzzled too much?
I am trying to get a routine going but she doesn't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time at night so it's too hard to stick to the times in you know who's book. By 5pm she is beside herself with tiredness and has a good 10min paddy won't feed and eventually conks out!

Sunshine don't fret too much you're little girl was a very healthy weight when born so I'm sure you're doing fine.

Swizzler · 13/11/2006 18:50

Wuzzle: W feeds every 2 hours usually, but he's been v grumpy the past day or so and wanting to feed every hr or so. Just put him in his cot as I think he's overtired. The knackering thing is him feeding every 2 hrs at night - I'd kill for more than 2 hrs of uninterrupted sleep! I just hope he'll settle into longer gaps soon.

Milliee: also had to sort through clothes now W has passed the 10lb mark. He is very chubby and looks huge to me now. He's also awake much more, lifting his head, making more noises - I can't believe how quickly he's changing.

If you want a laugh, look at your LOs expression when you try Infacol for the first time. DH and I were in hysterics - v cruel while W was screaming his head off. Obviously doesn't taste good

Swizzler · 13/11/2006 18:52

Clon: I think most babies throw up sometimes. W does, but I can't see any pattern. Check Megan isn't too hot - I've noticed that this can make W want to feed more, then his tummy rebels.

pmoore · 13/11/2006 19:12

Hi all, Really wish I got more chance to keep up to date with these postings. Time just flies by.

Sunshine our little girls were born on the same day only 3oz apart. No advice on the weight thing as I am now not breast feeding. But ditto to clon- born a very healthy weight.

Samantha is feeding every 3.5-4 hours but she must be having a growth spurt because she is constantly hungry. HV suggested cooled boiled water in between feeds so that she is not over feeding but you can't fool a baby.

Housework doesn't really happen. Mum came round and made the kitchen look all sparkly today DP thinks I've been working extra hard.
I do get at least one lot of washing done a day, anyone know how one baby can create so much washing!?!

purpleluce · 14/11/2006 08:37

Morning all - bad day yesterday, anyone heard of 11 day blues couldn't stop crying for no good reason. Went out for lunch with dh and he asked me what was wrong which
reduced me to tears so had to leave early

Think it is sleep deprivation building up off to see about tongue tie today

BENDYB · 14/11/2006 08:57

mornin every1,

Kai is doin well, weighs 8lb7oz now! He is so gorgeous & he's really good, only wakes up once at night, & he just seems such a peacefull & happy baby, I feel so lucky!

Its dps 1st day back at work 2day, so its a bit scary! Everythings going ok so far tho, even managed 2 get most of the clearing up done already so feeling very proud of myself!!!

Well anyway hope every1 else is ok, cant believe all the babies r finally here!

nicand2 · 14/11/2006 09:45

Morning all,

Well the dummy was a life saver last night, I still had to get up to do 2 night feeds but lo seemed to be getting used to settling himself in his moses basket when he had his dummy, I think he was so engrossed in sucking he forgot to whinge about windy tummy etc.

Gingeme · 14/11/2006 10:59

I know what you mean purpluce. I did the same last night. Just sat in the bath crying. Dont know why. lo had been so good yesterday and had a half hour of fun with ds3 which he needed with Mummy then all was quiet I was in the bath and just started blubbering. Yes I think sleep deprivation has alot to do with it. Lucky you nicand2 with the dummy. lo was brill with his yesterday . Fed every 4 hours which gave my boobs a great oppertunity to fill up and he had a good nosh each time. Then last night it all went wrong. Fed him at 9 put him down. He cried a bout 20 mins later. Did a burp. Cried again. Gave him his dummy but it kept coming out so he cried. Did this every 10 mins or so so I ended up taking him to bed with me and co sleeping and sticking my boob in every time he cried. I must have got about 3 hours sleep in all and woke with a crick in my neck. Wont be doing that tonight. Sorry but had to get that off my chest. But on a good note were going to my parents at the weekend which I desperately need. Going ga ga sitting in all day. Oh well have a good day ladies. xx

nicand2 · 14/11/2006 11:35

Gingeme also going ga ga sitting in all day. The hv has just called in and I found myself asking loads of questions just to get her to stay for a bit as I was enjoying some company - sad I know.

LO is now 12lb 4oz so he's putting weight on quickly. DS1 was really slow to gain weight and I always worried about that but now I find myself worrying about rapid weight gain as well, he is on the 98th centile what happens if he goes off the scale???

Gingeme · 14/11/2006 11:43

How old is he now nicand2? Are you breast feeding? Cant wait for my mw to come and weigh lo in Friday to see if hes put weight on. Of he hasnt I might switch to formula. Im also getting sick of wearing a bra to bed. Dh asked why I do then I showed him the big soggy patch the next morning and he realised. A bit of a personal question but are you still bleeding? Mine seems to have petered off a bit. Oh those of you asking about the pre natal check my docs rang me yesterday to ask about baby etc and said they didnt have my notes. They didnt realise Id had a home birth so then she said shed send me an appt for the check up So if you dont hear about it give your gp a ring to find out.

Gingeme · 14/11/2006 11:45

Oh before i forget dare I mention it but has anyone had any thoughts on the Dec meet up? x

nicand2 · 14/11/2006 12:11

Gingeme is 3 weeks and 2 days old now. I breast fed for the first week then switched to formula. He's having 4oz now, that's the thing I found hard about breast feeding is you never know how much they are getting. I asked the hv about the hungry baby milk but she said 4oz isn't excessive.

PelvicDoors · 14/11/2006 12:38

big vote here for december meet-up.

Can do any weekday in London and probably a weekend as well if need be. Anyone else keen, or will it just be me & the ginge playing norman no-mates?

purpleluce · 14/11/2006 14:43

Glad to hear others get the blubs, went back to bed for an hour today and it made a difference.

Saw lactation consultant who seems to think that he has good mobility in his tongue so they wouldn't do anything about it. Is it just me or does anyone else hate these bf clinicy places? All very well meaning but I hate the force the baby's head on your boob and the brainwashing nature of the messages that are delivered.

jmc if you are there your tongue tie was causing bf problems for sure wasn't it? The thing is, part of me thinks if it causes speech problems in 40% cases then why not do something now when it is an insignificant op rather than leave it until it requires a gen anaesthetic.

Gingeme · 14/11/2006 14:49

The ginge. Not the only ginge in my household though suprisingly lo isnt a ginge but ds3 truly is. The trouble is where can we meet up that has baby changing/feeding facilities. Good food and will be comfy enough for us all to sit. Dh suggested Mothercare World which is great for the comfort and changing but they dont do food there. Bless good job hes not organising it then eh? Oh need somewhere that has room for buggies too. Anyone got any ideas? Or basicaly can anyone be bothered.
Im seriously thinking about switching to formula.Dh can give some feeds then I can get on with stuff. I breast fed ds3 for 4 weeks but had to give up cause of my appendix and he took to it straight away with no constipation or anything. Ill see what happens when mw been on Friday.
