Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Please just sleep, please.

binkybunny · 26/10/2014 00:02

Yep we are, I had problems bf in hospital and decided I was happier than trying to persist with bf.

I just gave a second bottle an hour after 120ml , she drank 30ml, threw half of it back up and has fallen asleep. I wonder if there's a growth spurt at a week?

MundayCakes85 · 26/10/2014 00:24

A bit of a TMI question- anyone that has an episiotomy or forceps: A&E you having issues controlling bowel movements/ wind? I'm doing my pelvic floor exercises (they're quite weak) but I don't seem to be able to clench my bum!! Blush
Also cluster feeding tonight, not much sleep on the horizon for me Sad

Errrr2012 · 26/10/2014 00:38

Yes I had an episiotomy, all a bit weak down there but usually get a bit of warning before needing a wee. Bowel movement surprisingly ok but I feel like it'll be a long time and a lot of pelvic floor exercises before normality resumes.

No cluster feeding here but uncomfortable baby, who has slept very happily in the day in her Moses basket, will now only sleep on my chest. She looks very cosy......I'm jealous!

MundayCakes85 · 26/10/2014 00:49

Thanks Err glad it's not just me. Don't think the iron tablets giving me an upset tummy helps matters Confused
Etta crying whenever I try to settle her in her crib, there can't be any milk left in my boobs!!

Missus2ndwife · 26/10/2014 00:57

Binky I'm just feeding again!! This was only 40mls but still that's 160mls in 3hrs.
I hope I don't have a night of feeding every 1.5hrs again Hmm

Sorehead · 26/10/2014 01:20

Errrr- same here. Sleeps in his Moses basket quite happily but after what should be his bed time feed he suddenly develops what I'm assuming is a sore/ uncomfortable tummy and just wants to sleep on me. Sometimes if I wait until he's asleep I can then put him down but other times his eyes shoot open the second he's down. This is my least favourite time of day (well, night) Sad

clairemiss79 · 26/10/2014 01:32

binky I'm ff and my baby has loads more than it says on the formula pack. At 2 weeks she is draining 4oz and we have to do 5oz bottles about every 3 hours plus some little snacks of 1 or 2oz inbetween! My hv told me not to worry and just let her have what she wants. She hasn't regained her birth weight yet so the more the better!

fedupofrainydays · 26/10/2014 01:47

Why is it they suddenly get bad tummy ache at night? It's so weird.

Re episiotomy - I had one last time and third degree tear and I had probs with bowel and wee for a good few months. I had physio appts to check all was ok! And my bum hole was scanned - hee hee. I never had accidents but I very much 'had to go' and it's come back with this birth too. Mw said normal as it's weakened / stressed out my pelvic floor all again. Keep doing those exercises and it will get better. If you are worried, mention it at your 6 week check and they may put you in touch with physio.

Glad it's not just me who hates the nights Sad

I have fed lying down but then I have further to lift ds back to his bed nest. I don't like to co sleep as worry will squash him.

Just realised its 2 rather than 3
so tonight is even longer than
I thought!

I had forceps and epis/tear, and get that urgent gotta go feeling when I have a bowel movement. I hope that is temporary!

What order do you all use for nappy changes? My dilemma is post feed wakes him up, pre feed he is howling for food meaning he gets all worked up by the time he's been changed. He absolutely hates nappy changes and screams his head off every time.

Errrr2012 · 26/10/2014 02:58

I just did a post feed nappy change. She'd be too noisy and potentially wake toddler to change when hungry too! The worst is when she's half asleep, squirming about, does a giant poo and then looks sooooo relaxed!! I would dearly love to leave her be but I cant! Cue baby wide awake following nappy change and start all over again......

fedupofrainydays · 26/10/2014 03:02

My maybe is asleep and I'm wide awake worrying about random things Sad
Anyone else got the tommee tippee steriliser? Electric one? The cycle is supposed to take 5 mins and mine is much less (like 2 mins) surely it can't work with that little time? I use it to sterlise my breast pump stuff and bottles for DH to do evening feed

OP posts:
Errrr2012 · 26/10/2014 03:07

fed never used that steriliser but it's most likely fine. As long as you're following the instructions I'm sure it's working. We use Milton tablets which only takes 15mins so I'd expect electric one to be way faster. Stop fretting, get some sleep x x

We do prefeed as after just makes me puke. I do between boobs if I want to get her to tank up.

Tonight she's been great 3+ hours between 2 feeds. Sadly her brother has a stinker of a cough \ cold so we've been up with him Sad . I don't know if it is the 3 week growth spurt abating or if the Ergo cocoon swaddle is just THAT good but her sleep is much improved since we've been using it. I just took her downstairs for a nappy change in it (having heard a thunderous poo, and not wanting to wake her bro who we'd finally got back to sleep), during the poo, the trip downstairs, despite me sticking all the lights on, she was snoring away in it.

Argh crap just held her upright for 30mins post feed and it sounds like her brother is stirring again. I swear they're tag teaming tonight Sad boo we're meant to be off to a local farms Halloween pumpkin festival tomorrow. Mummy can go as a zombie Hmm Envy

YellowWellies · 26/10/2014 04:12

Correction. Haha after just makes HER puke. I don't puke after feeds!!!

Thanks for the replies ladies- glad I'm not alone. Will mention it at Drs apt if it's not improved. Just feeding DD- she likes to fart/ poo mid feed so I tend to change her afterwards. Although her favourite trick is to pop/ wee straight into the fresh nappy as it goes on Grin

mrsb87 · 26/10/2014 05:32

Following Dylan's bad day he has slept really well from 12:30 until 4:30! Phew! He is now being a complete guzzler.
Dh and I have been enjoying replacing words in songs for the word boob. Great fun at 5am! Do far the best is "they say I'm all about the boob 'bout the boob, no nappy" instead of all about the bass. Simple things to keep you amused hehe

YellowWellies · 26/10/2014 05:40

Munday every baby I've met can't resist the allure of a fresh blank canvass!

Mrs here we sing "oh yes sir, I love the boobie, the boobie woobie on a (insert day of the week) ---- night" Smile

Grannyapple · 26/10/2014 07:18

Hi laidies...I think Adam utilised the extra hour to give us a 4 hour stretch after his feed . Shame his sister didn't get the memo tho...she was awake for at least 1.5hrs...think it's her teeth. I tried for 20 mins & then had to wake DH to deal with her as I knew Adam would wake soon for his feed. I'm now down stairs with the older 2 trying to give them breakfast, awaiting Adam feeding soon.

Re: jelonet...we got some from an independent pharmacy x

ohthegoats · 26/10/2014 07:23

Dumb question about sterilising.

I want to start expressing in the next week or so - enough for boyfriend to dothe late evening feed. I've only got one bott and a tub to strrilisterilise in (for now anyway). If I sterilise the stuff then either use a tea towel to dry it, orleave it hanging around to dry, then does that make it unsterile again?

Also, how much makes up one feed? I've no idea.

ohthegoats · 26/10/2014 07:25

I apologise for the typos in that - one handed on a tablet that keeps stalling so I can't see what I'm typing.

puppythedog · 26/10/2014 07:55

It transpires I just needed to complain to the universe and Matilda slept a solid three and a half hours GrinGrinGrin

I sing it's all about the boob (bass) and nipple,

Don't blame it on the sunshine, don't lame it on the moonlight, blame it on the boogie. I'm sure more will follow.
