Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Gun how scary about the dvt scare. Deffo take the anti b's (and some probiotics) as with my first I had a crack that wouldn't heal and it was infected. Cleared right up with antibiotics.

Sitting in Newark Museum cafe feeding DD2 with dh and the kids. First family day out - dd2 is 7 days old today Smile. Off to a lovely deli for lunch in a bit.

Just having my first glass of wine Grin

madamweasel · 17/10/2014 19:01

We went out today as well, DH was getting cabin fever so we went to a childrens farm with play area for DS to wear off some energy. I was less than thrilled to be embarking on first outing with newborn but it had to be done sooner or later. Luckily by the time we'd got there it was probably near school pick up so the place was deserted which meant there were only goats and pigs to watch me attempt to bf in public for the first time. With dripping nipples and a squawking, flailing DD, I was not at my most dignified but I'm glad I know I can do it, although how you bf a baby and supervise a toddler by yourself, I have absolutely no clue.

YellowWellies · 17/10/2014 19:19

madam in a week you'll be BF and full on toddler herding. I BF DD today in front of boiler salesman, whilst distracting DS with puzzles and the guy didn't realise! Boob brand tops are awesomely discreet and easy for feeding.

BabyGoose · 17/10/2014 19:24

Congratulations everyone! I've just popped in to ask if anyone wants a box of lansinoh breast pads? My little October baby is nearly a year old. I've just stopped b/feeding and have a full box. I'd rather post them than bin them x

MundayCakes85 · 17/10/2014 20:34

Just going to try to catch up but two things- anyone else's boobs hot and hard before a feed?

  • anyone else's hormones in overdrive? Crying at every nice comment/ present/ nice thing my mum does for us!!!
Pregnantagain7 · 17/10/2014 21:22

munday can't help with the boob thing as not breast feeding but yes to the hormones I'm on day 4 and from what I remember today and tomorrow are especially bad for being hormonal.

I'm really struggling with dp at the mo I'm so disappointed in the way he's been with me since the baby has been born he went back to work two days after he was born which ok was not his fault but I've not even had a card or bunch of flowers or anything. I can't speak to him about it because I'll just loose it, maybe I should talk to him in a couple of days when my hormones have settled down Id like a rational discussion about how he's made me feel rather than one that involves lots of snot and him blaming my hormones rather than admitting he's behaving like aa arse.

me23 thanks for the birth story and hope your feeling ok.

I might post mine which ended up far from straight forward but at the moment it's quite difficult to even think about it as everything ended Up being very scary.

Hope everyone's coping ok and managing to sleep when they can :)

YellowWellies · 17/10/2014 21:52

Munday yes in the early days my boobs would get hot and hard before a feed, its annoying but also a wonderful symbiosis - your body reminds you to feed the baby, baby gets fed - you get comfy boobs. It will stop happening once your body gets used to how much milk is needed (you might get it again the first night your baby sleeps through! Smile but you'll be so chuffed about the sleep you won't mind). If your boobs stay hot and hard after a feed - get checked for mastitis.

porcito · 17/10/2014 22:07

I've literally not had my boobs away today. Pleasant. Today is also the day I had to get a boiler repair and washing machine repair and a leaky pipe fixed today so my house has been full of workmen. A treat for all Grin

That's a really kind offer Babygoose . I don't need any but congrats on the end of BF!

pregnant I had full on meltdown with DP this week over how he's been. I didn't want a huge gift or anything but some acknowledgment and a return from work before 9pm every day since birth would've been nice, maybe even a hug Angry
I wrote to mine in the style of a 14 yr old girl to stop myself being crazy and emotional when telling him how it was.

RudyTuesday · 17/10/2014 22:09

Munday - I'm like a leaky tap. Every time I think my emotions have calmed, a sobbing fit will sneak up on me. My latest sobfest is about not being able to do stuff with DP and worrying that we can't be as close as pre- baby. Baby is 2 weeks today, wonder how long before I man up.

mrsb87 · 17/10/2014 22:14

Vicious cycle....
baby is sleepy and grizzly and wants a comfort feed
...
you oblige and they fall asleep after 10 minutes
....
you put them down thinking I should wind them for a bit but you know it will wake them up so you chance it and put them down
.....
They wake up after 5 minutes with wind! Bugger!

madamweasel · 17/10/2014 22:15

pregnant I just bought myself a bunch of flowers because I realised no one else was going to!!! And 3 new tops because I'm fed up of all my maternity clothes

MundayCakes85 · 17/10/2014 22:17

Thanks Pregnant I'm glad I'm not alone. Really sorry to hear you don't feel supported by your DH. Definitely think you need to talk to him, but waiting sounds like a good idea. Not too long though, blokes are sometime oblivious to our feelings/ them being twats!

ohthegoats · 17/10/2014 22:46

We're in the middle of 'the screaming'. Milk comes in, eats like fiend, doesn't poo all day due to change in food. Acts like her mother regards lack of pooing and shouts about it a LOT. Feel sorry for next door if this goes on all night.

Me23 · 18/10/2014 00:08

Thought v was going to do a long stretch of sleep earlier nope! Were up feeding. I hope she lets me sleep a bit tonight I've been stuck on sofa all day feeding (or trying to) I'm exhausted. I have no idea how I'm going to do school runs/ normal everyday life like this.
Also only just realised the hospital haven't given me enough medication to last over the weekend as they upped my dose before I left. So annoyed will have to try to sort it out tomorrow.
gun sorry to hear about your anxiety I totally understand how you feel I'm going through the same it's quite scary actually. I'm worrying constantly about my health now.

pregnant sorry you're not feeling valued by your partner. Maybe have a gentle chat he might not realise that you need some extra tlc.

puppythedog · 18/10/2014 01:18

Hi Me23. We're just enjoying the trying to keep Matilda awake enough to feed enough for her to sleep if that makes sense.

Sorry regarding those feeling a bit rubbish and for rubbish darling partners. Men chance completely shot, it's the whole Y chromosomal thing. Like a disorder.

BadgerInBury · 18/10/2014 02:14

Gabby has now been feeding for two and a half hours straight. My poor boobs are starting to struggle...

mum2kiss · 18/10/2014 02:25

Hey everyone. Finally made it to the post natal thread! No idea if I'll be able to catch up but I guess that's what night feeds are for!

magichandles · 18/10/2014 03:25

I was all over the place Day 4 & 5 - I sobbed over the necklace DH bought me (first present in 3 children and took a lot of hinting while I was pregnant that this might be a nice thing) and had a couple of mini meltdowns over various things.
Still a bit post- birth tired, but managed a cake sale at preschool and a pub lunch yesterday so starting to feel a bit more normal.

YellowWellies · 18/10/2014 07:34

Wahey a 3 hr and a 4hr stretch - then her nappy change woke the toddler so poor DH is up for the day Confused . Her reflux is really calming down now I'm 19 days off dairy sob.

mrsb87 · 18/10/2014 08:10

I feel a little smug as little Dylan is only 8 days old and we managed a 3hr and a 4hr stretch Grin the church across the roads alarm went off 3 times over night and it disturbed me more than him! He wasn't phased him Smile

fatpony · 18/10/2014 09:11

Well done Dylan!
Murdo did 1.5hrs and then 3hrs 2-5am. The three hr stretch required a mammoth feed beforehand though. I think he spends all day snoozing and then finds he is awake in the night...

porcito · 18/10/2014 09:37

Good news mrsb !

We had a day of screaming and eating yesterday. The last day my parents were with me and the first time the baby was being inconsolable. I might fly back with them if she's the same today! She screamed every time her stomach was touched but after what must have been the biggest sound in North America, her nappy exploded. Hated feeling so helpless for her.

Going on our first 4 hour bus journey today - am dreading being THAT person on the public transport with the screeching baby Confused

mrsb87 · 18/10/2014 10:39

I'm going to allow the swaddling to take full credit for this. He clearly loves it. It probably helps he drained a very full boob in 20 minutes flat and slept almost instantly!
