Ugh, how awful Figster

I'm a great aunt again (number 8!) but although he arrived this morning it sounds like he is pretty poorly. Not sure of the details, waiting for DH's brother to give us a call with more info than we can glean from good old fb.

Also attended my 20 year school reunion at the weekend. A suprisingly good time was had by all I think!!

mopsytop · 06/10/2014 21:16

A great aunt in your 30s???

That's horrific Figgy. Was it in childbirth ? I just can't imagine how awful it must be for that poor man and his little kid. I feel like crying and I don't even know them.

OiMissus · 06/10/2014 21:37

Oh Figgy, that's just heartbreaking. I have no words. How utterly devastating. I hope he has a good family and friends network to give him love and support.
Heart breaking. Sad

NorthernChinchilla · 06/10/2014 22:24

Blimey, some sobering stories tonight... Sad

figgy that's awful news; as you say, how could anyone cope with that grief and having to soldier on for the sake of his other child?

Hope the news gets better fix, and that the baby perks up.

I take it that it was sudden illness/accident aethel; hope you're able to make the funeral. Do you know her family at all?

I'm shattered, DP was unexpectedly called out on an assessment, and so I had to get DS. All fine, but means that I've only just finished my dinner now at gone ten....

Figgy that's so awful, poor man and how awful for the other child to presumably be excited about having a baby brother or sister and then to lose its mum too :( :( :(

TheOnlySeven · 07/10/2014 20:44

How many of our LO's are still in cots btw? She seems perfectly happy in her cot still but I think at nearly 3 it's probably time we made the change.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 07/10/2014 20:52

So many sad stories, puts the life into perspective a bit.

Chip, party food sounds good. DS likes all the julia Donaldson stuff as well as Mog. Do not buy Goodbye Mog. Confused. He also like the Stomp Dinosaur Stop books. I got a bunch of other random ones recently from The Works.

I'm having a toy sort out. Just given a load of toys and winter clothes away after a local mum confessed to a friend of mine that they couldn't afford a winter coat for their toddler, or any toys because her husband lost his job and she's been really ill. Life hands out some shit cards doesn't it? Feels good to get rid of stuff though, and nice that it will get some use.

NorthernChinchilla · 07/10/2014 21:21

Seven, we've only just made the change, about 2-3 weeks ago. Bed time currently somewhat more of a challenge than it was, but very slowly improving....
Tbf he's gone from no bother to a couple of 'returns' per evening and a bit of a wail, so I know it could be worse!

OP posts:
mopsytop · 07/10/2014 21:48

Seven, we did about a year ago and it was really easy, no hassle... plus is easier to do good night kiss if you're not leaning over a cot! Our main reason for moving her was that our lower backs were suffering as cot didn't have a drop side.

Having v uncomfortable crampy pains recently. Probably braxton hicks, although they're a bit sore as well as umcomfy but I think braxton hicks can be, right? Also rotten pain in corner of right rib cage. I guess baby wedged there or kicking there or something.. Had same pain with Minimopsy. Horrid. 8 more weeks of this to go.

But your stories are seriously putting things into perspective! I have a lovely husband, child, home and extended family. I am super lucky. I can put up with a bit of discomfort!

Chipandspuds · 08/10/2014 13:00

Thanks for the book suggestions everyone, will check those out Smile

DS has been in a normal single bed with a bed guard for a good few months now since he managed to climb out of his cot and land on his forehead Sad The move to the bed was absolutely fine though! My main problem now is that he's not in a sleeping bag and likes to wriggle out of his duvet cover!

DS seems to have a cold and be very tired after the flu vaccine on Monday, but no more sickness since Tuesday early hours of the morning thank goodness! I feel like I'm coming down with a cold...I'm going to blame the flu jab! My arms are still sore from the flu and whooping cough jabs, next time I won't have both done at the same time!

Figster · 08/10/2014 20:55

Ds was in a cot bed so we've taken 1 side off and put a bed guard on as he's a nighttime gymnast and without it he'd be on his head. He's going to be in there until he grows out of it or another dc comes along and needs it

Aethelfleda · 08/10/2014 21:29

Yep, hug your kids and carpe diem.

DS has been in a toddler bed for a year but we still have a bedguard to stop him rolling out (and it's very low) .

Watching Woody Allen film (Sleeper) on the telly. It's very very silly....

OiMissus · 09/10/2014 22:28

Boi was in a cot with the side taken off. Since DH moved out he's slept in my bed with me.
Tonight, when given the choice ( which I always do) he said he'd sleep in his bed!!! 2hrs+ he's still there. I think!ShockSmileHmmHmmHmm

TheOnlySeven · 10/10/2014 14:28

I ordered her a new bed, it came yesterday and I built it this morning. I let her choose it herself, didn't show her the Peppa pig one though!

Hope you're feeling a bit better now chip.

I'm considering applying for the next series of Bake Off, seems a bit bonkers though Confused

mopsytop · 10/10/2014 14:38

Dooooo apply seven! what have you got to lose!?

TheOnlySeven · 10/10/2014 14:42

Dignity? :o Its just not the sort of thing I'd usually do

fixyourgardengate · 10/10/2014 15:09

Do it, do it, do it!

I would love to "know" someone competing. I'm so ignorant when it comes to baking anything other than standard biscuits/scones I am in awe of anyone who can really bake.

Chipandspuds · 10/10/2014 17:59

Go for it Seven! I think it would be good fun!

DS and I are still a bit grotty but just taking it easy and we both had a snooze on the settee this afternoon Smile

We went to a toddler group this morning which I'm volunteering at. The lady who runs it is really good with all the arts & crafts ideas. Today we had play dough with cake tins and cupcake cases to "bake" with.

NorthernChinchilla · 10/10/2014 21:37

Oh definitely do it seven, sounds amazing! There was a recipe in the paper about how to make your own cronuts, only took 3 days.....

How's BOi doing in his bed? And how are you doing Oi, hope this weekend is a bit more cheering for you.

Currently in a service station car park on the M1 with a snoring toddler, whilst DP gets himself coffee. Highlight of journey so far was DS slipping his arm straps as we were belting along the M25 Shock Up North to see family and do birthday celebrations- will b back for the actual day, and will be painting my lovely new built in shelves and cupboards for the rest of my week off. And am looking forward to it.
Anyone else as sad as me Wink ?

Aethelfleda · 10/10/2014 22:03

I'm probably sadder northern, the highlight of my week was filing a lot of paperwork in the library followed by the purchase of a new loft ladder.
And now, back to the sewing. It's nametaping time followed by yet more kit making. I have a to-sew pile a yard long.

Oh and recipe of the week is home-stewed figs in syrup with turkish yoghurt. Yum.

mopsytop · 10/10/2014 22:11

Nothing like a bit of DIY Northern! I lined all the built in cupboards with brown paper recently and it was soooooo satisfying!

mopsytop · 10/10/2014 22:14

I have a darn I need to deal with aethel. Putting it off as I'm crap and darning and also (sneaky) mum is visiting next week and she's a whizz at all things sewing ... my sis also coming with her wee baba so tomo I must go through all Minimopsy's old clothes and sort out what I'm keeping for this new mini boy and what I'm giving to mopsyniece. I love a bit of sorting and folding! So if we are having a sad person competition I think I'm in there with a shot!

OiMissus · 11/10/2014 14:05

I have a hangover. I drank cocktails. I expect no sympathy. It's a good job Boi is with DH today! - I'm at the hairdressers trying to stay awake while my highlights cook.
Boi stayed in his bed all night. I was ok. I will try to encourage this. Although I will miss the snuggles.

mopsytop · 11/10/2014 17:47

I don't miss hangovers Oi but I DO miss cocktails!

mopsytop · 11/10/2014 17:51

Found THE most fabulous antique French extendable table today. In fact, the same antiques shop had a v similar, slightly smaller one last week but someone had already bought it. I was so disappointed. But the last said they frequently got similar ones and rang me this morning so I reserved it and dashed down this afternoon. Someone else had tried to buy it in the meantime! But I goty paws on it. It is FAB. Extendable too. Seats six unextended but ten extended I should think. Very pleased!
