Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

Marjal congratulations -
Dandy ds was born 12th August but he was due 2nd Sept... There is no August thread so I am sticking around

People, do your babies scream/cry a lot at all? My LO has reflux and he gets very uncomfortable a couple of times a day- he was prescribed baby Gavisgon which helped a lot, but didn't resolve the problem entirely. Any experience anyone?

This is my first and I was so nervous so I asked my parents to stay with me for a couple of months - my problem now is that when LO screams that much I feel someone should sooth and comfort my mum and dad instead of the baby! After raising three kids they get so nervous and upset when baby screams constantly for a while - don't get me wrong I get upset too, but I am still in control - they keep telling me to take him to a specialist, do whatever it takes (!!!) to make the baby comfortable ! I am glad he doesn't have colic and entire screaming is a couple of hours a day !

Nazly · 14/09/2014 15:09

Theonly another congrats in this thread... Welcome :)

By the way my LO was 7lb 13 oz at 37 weeks ! If it wasn't for emergency c-section and he would go to 40 or 42 weeks he would have been 9lb or more!

Honeybear30 · 14/09/2014 15:52

nazly do you have a partner that can talk to your parents? Sounds like they are stressing you out which you really don't need.

Can't help with the reflux issue sorry :(

Acorncat · 14/09/2014 16:43

My baby is now 8 days old and still doesn't have a name Shock. I don't know how everyone else manages, there's just no names that I like. We only have another 2 weeks to register his birth, given that we've had 9 months to pick a name I don't like our chances. We're going to end up settling on something that we just "don't hate" which makes me sad Sad. We're so worried about picking something that he'll hate, or get Hmm faces at, or worse

allisgood1 · 14/09/2014 18:35

Nazly, hang in there. DS is my third (I know there are a few other posters here with 3-4). It's not "normal" to scream several hours on end, but define "normal". I would be inclined to take him to a pead if you feel something isn't right. I did when dd2 was v young (3 weeks) and sure enough she was suffering from silent reflux. Another thing I wish I had done with both is take them to the chiropractor early on. They are v gentle with newborns but so much can happen in birth and it just takes one kink in the neck to throw a baby's whole system off. SIL waited until dn was one year and after she was adjusted she slept the whole way home...a first after a whole year!! Her neck was just really out from the birth. I plan to take DS soon even though he is so far a good baby. No advice on what to do about your parents Confused mine are the same and drove me mad.

Acorn, do you have any names you love but your DH hates? Can you try and compromise on one of those?

My mum has been here since beginning of July and leaves tomorrow. Which means I've got dd2 to contend with all day tomorrow and a school run to attempt!

nazly I agree you should get him checked over or at least see what your HV says. DD1 used to scream all the time, it turned out she was lactose intolerant, she was a different baby once she was on the right formula.

TheOnlySeven · 14/09/2014 19:37

acorn once you've registered the birth you have 12 months during which you can change the baby's name and be issued with a new birth certificate rather than having to change it through deed poll, I think you'd just need to see the registrar again, so it's not necessarily a huge issue if you're not 100% certain when you register.

RedToothBrush · 14/09/2014 20:37

Acorn, we registered DS yesterday - nearly two weeks after we had him. I'm panicking still in case we have cursed him, as we have picked an 'out there' unique name as it was very meaningful to us. I'm torn between thinking its great, worrying about what others think and having a lack of confidence in DS liking it / not suiting it. We'd been musing this one for a month or two but really weren't sure. The trouble is that there was no other boys name at all we really felt we both liked or felt right so for all my doubts, I was stuck without an alternative anyway.

In the end we just went for it, even though we know we will get raised eyebrows (and already have had - though the vast majority have been positive to our faces at least).

I think my point is, I think its such a huge decision that its possible to feel that no name is perfect, even if its The One.

CumbrianExile · 14/09/2014 20:42

Congrats Marj and Seven Thanks

Acorncat · 14/09/2014 21:45

Re the names, it's not that we can't agree as much as just totally stuck for inspiration (despite books, lists etc). That's good to know it can be changed easily for up to a year, thanks.

It's just a big responsibility Sad

Nazly · 14/09/2014 23:29

Thanks ladies - I will take him to a gp soon ;
Another question: does anybody has pain in their breast? Not cracked and sore nipples, a deep pain through breast tissues? I don't know what to do with this pain plus my traumatised nipples!!

P.s. Regarding names, we had such a difficult time... We had quite a few girl's name but no boys name - We just picked the top name in our list when he was born and as we saw his face we agreed which name suits him best.. It was far from being sure or our ideal and it was really difficult ...

Honeybear30 · 15/09/2014 00:30

Sometimes my breasts ache all over. I've found a warm bath and laying so each us fully submerged for a bit and massaging helps?

I'm finding I'm getting quite anxious at night. :( two evenings in a row and it's night and I get all teary and worry about literally everything. Afterwards I know it's irrational but at the time it's so consuming. Just hormones I guess?

Sorry to hear these name troubles, the responsibility of choosing one is quite scary!

DearDinah · 15/09/2014 11:21

theonly congrats! Yes we have birthday twins! Evie was due 3rd September but wanted to be an August baby :) Congrats on the weight gain, you're doing brilliantly! X

BooSurprise · 15/09/2014 22:48

Evening ladies, I haven't managed to get on for a while, as been trying to establish bf, and stop B from losing more weight- by day 5 was almost a lb less than birth weight, well finally today at 13 days old he's put weight on, so I'm guessing it's finally working. 1st day on my own with all 3dc, surprisingly I wasn't found rocking in the corner by lunch time, and we all survived without any major mishaps!
Sending sleepy dust to all for a peaceful night tonight

topmammy · 15/09/2014 23:56

Evening ladies. Jessica is having a growth spurt I think as she has been feeding almost constantly since about 6 pm and it's now nearly midnight!

nazly does your breast pain feel like a sharp stabby pain going through your nipple? That kind of pain could be a sign of thrush.

honey how many days pp are you? My baby blues manifested itself in a horrid anxious worrying about everything way similar to what you describe. Don't worry its just hormones and it did soon pass for me so I'm sure it will for you too :)

About to attempt putting Jessica down in the crib for the fourth time this evening. Fingers crossed!

Nazly · 16/09/2014 02:46

Yes top exactly - oops, should get checked up then

My LO had a growth spurt a few days ago and wanted feeding constantly - he put on 1 lb in a week then Shock Smile

topmammy · 16/09/2014 03:02

I've just had nearly 3 hours sleep so not bad going, , still feel knackered though!

Yes Nazly definitely get checked and baby too as it can be passed between you so his mouth needs to be checked for thrush too.

We'll she has just finished on the boob. Going to attempt transfer to crib soon!

Honeybear30 · 16/09/2014 05:58

mammy we see only on day 9 here so hopefully you're right, it'll pass.

I was having major sleep issues where baby was sound asleep and I just couldn't! It was so frustrating. I wonder if i completely exhausted myself though because we all just woke after 5 hours. So I guess it could be a few days of hellish lack if sleep followed by extreme exhaustion so my body has to sleep?! I think the anxiety is contributing to the lack if sleep to tbh, so hopefully once it passes it'll get easier.

Growth spurt phases sound erm...fun...can't wait for our first one over here Confused

cookielove · 16/09/2014 06:02

5 hours in a row sounds lush! Most I get is 3 :(

Honeybear30 · 16/09/2014 09:49

cookie I guarantee it's a fluke. It made me so happy it can't possibly continue.

He went back down at 7 this morning though and is still soundo. I woke at 9 and was so excited that is slept that I couldn't carry on sleeping lol!

Acorncat · 16/09/2014 10:45

I can't get more than 2 hours sleep and even that's interrupted - they're such noisy sleepers. At some point something's gotta give, just hope it's not my sanity! I suppose I should be grateful to get that. On the plus side, at day 9 he's now 8lbs12 up from birth weight of 8lbs5 gonna be chunky

Honeybear30 · 16/09/2014 10:51

They are noisy aren't they? I think I just slept through the snuffles due to sheer exhaustion. DH and I have started calling him our little piglet because of the grunting and snorting.

That's great weight gain, our next check up isn't until day 11, will be interesting to see what he weighs.

CoolCat2014 · 16/09/2014 12:41

Hi all, checking in, baby Eleanor was born early Monday morning after a very short labour, - she arrived 1hr 15 after I was admitted. Still can't get over how quick it was! Midwives were really surprised too as I'd been only 1cm dilated 3 hours before, and had been sent home to sleep. Was discharged about 6 hours later as she was feeding fine and no issues.

She's such a gorgeous little baby, feeding well, but she won't sleep unless she's on one of us, otherwise she just cries and cries and cries... So haven't had much sleep!

Hope everyone is well!

CumbrianExile · 16/09/2014 13:06

Haha Honeybear I have a snorter too, its quite funny when he does it!

Congrats coolcat, that was nice and quick Smile

Acorncat · 16/09/2014 13:37

coolcat I think we've all just been through the only sleeping on us for the first few nights and being terrified of falling asleep on them. Mine is finally sleeping in his Moses basket at a week old, albeit waking very often.
