Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

I was advised to cut soy when I cut dairy as the allergies often go hand in hand. We were later prescribed an aptamil that I can't remember the name of that's soy and dairy free.

Yep they do often go hand in hand but they like you to cut cows milk out first and take it from there. At least thats what I was told by pead dietitian at hospital and community dietitian who ds is still under.

acorn how is lo doing??

Allisgood1 · 07/10/2014 23:01

Kellymom on dairy and breastfeeding: kellymom.com/health/baby-health/food-sensitivity/

Cutting dairy from your diet is hard because it's in so many things but not impossible and definitely not a reason to intro formula. Kellymom doesn't even discuss formula if you suspect dairy intolerance and even state that it takes 5-7 days to notice a difference so pumping and dumping for this period of time would have a dramatic effect on your supply. They don't mention getting dr permission either. Just FYI.

Gearing up for another night of cuddling baby upright. Tried putting him in elevated cot but he just sounds so distressed that I took him out again. I wonder if I'm just going crazy- he's asleep throughout these episodes, or certainly falls straight back to sleep straightaway before the next one starts a minute later so how distressed can he actually be. But i can't stay awake all night, not after doing it last night so really don't know what the hell to do Sad.

Allisgood1 · 08/10/2014 00:56

I don't think I'm going to sleep tonight. DS 6 weeks tomorrow and I think we've hit the growth spurt. This is making me feel better and encouraging me its all normal: nurshable.com/2012/05/27/six-week-growth-spurt/

Acorn it truly is horrible Flowers
Do you live any near Sheffield? ? One of the best gastric drs in Europe works there. We travel hours to see him for ds

Acorncat · 08/10/2014 05:26

Sadly nowhere near Sheffield Sad. I'm gonna push for a referral, hopefully there'll be someone who can help. I think it's probably just a case of waiting till he grows out of it but that's such a awful thought. Maybe the ranitidine just needs a couple more days to work, fingers crossed.

ilovemonstersinc · 08/10/2014 08:35

What else is he on?
Gaviscon, omperezole, domperidone and ranitidine are the main meds for reflux. Ranit didnt agree with ds. Hes still on omperezole. Domperidone isnt used an awful lot any more but can still be prescribed. Give the ranit a few more days. Is there any ddifference?

Right boys are fighting

ilovemonstersinc · 08/10/2014 08:37

Should also add erthryomicin ina a low dose is also used.
Erthryomicin and domperidone work by emptyinh the stomach quicker so there's nothing in the stomach to reflux with.

Honeybear30 · 08/10/2014 08:39

acorn sounds like you're having a tough time :(

The weather is awful today!! Raining so hard. We're meant to be going out today but I am yet to tackle the elaborate rain covers on the travel system. I was meant to look at it before DS was born but he was so early I didn't get a chance! It's so tempting to stay in bed/on the sofa with a blanket. Pretty sure that's not great for my sanity though.

Allisgood1 · 08/10/2014 09:12

Acorn yes give the meds a little time. If by fri no change go back. I feel for you with holding them upright. I spent the better part of 6 months doing that with dd1 and it sucked. But I learned to sleep holding her which did save my sanity a bit.

DS finally settled at 2. Slept til 7 and I put him down again at 9. Will see how long he lasts.

Hi all. Just checking in really. Sorry so many of you are having a rough time. Hugs to you all. xxx Me and Jessica are okay, although she's still cluster feeding of an evening until the early hours which is exhausting! She also seems to get wind at night (but not in the day, which is weird) which ends up upsetting her. Am going to try giving infacol for a few days with her night feeds to see if it helps. xxx

Acorncat · 08/10/2014 10:54

He's been on ranitidine since Monday, not seen any improvement yet. He's to go back on Monday. Took him to be weighed and he's put on another 1lb in a week and is almost on the 98th percentile Hmm I suspect I'm comfort feeding him too much. He's 4 weeks and weighs 11lb14oz now. He slept briefly and fitfully on his side so I got an hours sleep.

I tried expressing for the first time yesterday in the hope that DH can give a feed in the evening so I can at least get 3 hours sleep. I had no idea how much to do so did 100ml but he made short work of that so I had to wake up to feed him anyway Sad. Still, it's a start. I just hope it doesn't muck up my supply.

Nazly · 08/10/2014 11:19

Acron I am doing that now - keeping him upright... It is very difficult
Something which helped me get some sleep was Rock Play n Sleep - read the reviews on Amazon US

Incredible weight gain- how much was he when born?

KatharineClover · 08/10/2014 12:02

Would a sling or baby carrier help? DS1 was so sick after feeds so I really feel for you guys (was also fobbed off by gp). DS2 is in the sling for at least 2 naps a day Andre loves it. Just thought it would give you hands free and keep them upright. I have a close caboo sling, it's a godsend! I do the preschool run with him in it, then pump and then do chores til he wakes, he tends to go in it again for preschool pick up and also at tea time.

Acorncat · 08/10/2014 12:14

nazly I was actually reading about the rock and play last night but could only find US sellers, nothing for uk so had given up on that idea. He was 8lb5oz at birth so already quite heavy.

I do have a sling which I need to make more use of, I'm sure that would help ( and my sanity to get out for a walk!).

Nazly · 08/10/2014 12:36

Acron I bought it on Amazon and it arrived in a week
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EC6LX5E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Acorncat · 08/10/2014 13:10

Thanks, how come I didn't find that! Will read the the US reviews. I'd do anything for some sleep!

cookielove · 08/10/2014 13:18

Have a look on ebay for all things relating to sleep. May help soften the blow.

Ds does not fuss at all in his sleep during the day, yet is terrible at night :s

We went to a baby group this am was fun :)

LH1981 · 08/10/2014 16:48

Well we saw the specialist yesterday and came back to the hospital today for blood tests and xrays.

I'm not too worried about the jaundice although he's 3 weeks old tomorrow so glad they're checking all is ok, and the doctor said the heart murmur is mild but they've done an xray anyway.

But the skull fusing has me terrified. Looked it up on Google and it's called Craniosynostosis and looks much more serious than I'd imagined. I'd avoided asking too many questions until we know if he has it or not, but I have a horrible feeling he does. The fusion on its own requires quite major skull surgery plus facial reconstruction in some cases, and in more severe cases it comes as part of a genetic disorder which I haven't dared research.

He's so tiny, and it was bad enough watching them take the blood and do the xray I can't bear the idea of something serious wrong with him!

I hope we get the results quickly!

ilovemonstersinc · 08/10/2014 17:02

Lh Google headlines charity they are wonderful. Ds2 is under specialist for craniosynostis. Hes 14months and they are keeping an eye on him to see if he needs surgery. Theres 4 super units in the uk that specialise in cranio facial Birmingham Oxford alderhay and great ormond street.
Ds2 sees the specialist next week to see if he needs to see a neurologist as well. His head shape is very odd. His forhead bulges. His eyes are slanting almost downwards. We're a right lot aren't we Hmm

LH1981 · 08/10/2014 17:09

Thanks ilove I'll do that! It's so scary. To look at him he looks like a completely normal baby, but if you feel his head, there are strange ridges and you can barely feel the frontal fontanelle at all. I just have a horrible suspicion that he has the condition.
Was there any sign with your ds2 from birth, or was everything 'normal' until he got a bit older? Fingers crossed for you that he won't need surgery!

We're in London so Great Ormond Street would be our nearest.

TeamEponine · 08/10/2014 20:02

Hi all,

LH it must be such a stressful time for you. Fingers crossed you get some answers soon and that the news is good.

Having gotten feeding established nicely by the time she was about ten days we are now encountering a strange problem. She really fights me when initially latching on. She pushes away from me, shakes her head, really screams and gets upset. I have to be quite forceful with her and push her on until eventually she gives in and starts feeding. Once she has started she instantly calms down and feeds fantastically. If she has a break to be winded (she usually does) we gave the same battle to get her back on. Any ideas what might be going on and how to reduce the fight? I started her on infacol a few days ago, which is really helping, and she occasionally has a dummy to reduce her comfort sucking, which was creating real wind problems.

Any ideas, hints or tips would be fab, thanks! Also going to post this in the feeding topics.

Thanks!

holls2000 · 08/10/2014 20:38

Lh. Thinking about you xx

We had a tricky night where Barney would not not not go to sleep. I think he had been totally overstimulated by tv/playing with daddy etc. so tonight we have (with my mums help) bathed, fed upstairs and put to bed in Moses basket in our room, had a story....and he is asleep. Have put him in a grobag too. Next feed due at 10,30 and hoping he will go back down easily so mummy can get some sleep! The past few nights he has cluster fed from 7-10 but again I think that was because he was over stimulated. He has gone back to having decent sized feeds rather than lots of snacky feeds so fingers crossed.

zanashar · 08/10/2014 22:20

Thinking of you LH. Feel very lucky that DD is being quite good with night time feeding but during the past few days she's been really restless. Think it's partly down to wind so have started Infacol which seems to be helping somewhat, but I'm still useless at winding her between feeds. I also feel like she's permanently attached to me with all the feeds and it takes me ages to get her off to sleep afterwards, so I'm getting v little else done in the day :-/ and started to wonder how long this will last for. Hoping the purchase of a sling will allow more productivity around the house ( I take my hat off to those of you with older kids AND a newborn!!) Also getting quite stressed every time she has non poopy nappy and convinced that she's constipated.
And speaking of nappies is anyone else doing reusable nappies? I'm managing with a wash every other day (I've got 24 in total) lots of soaking and scrubbing needed though!
