I have asthma, eczema and allergies but we don't have any food allergies in the family. I heard that allergies in general are the risk factor though, not specifically food allergies.

FelixFelix · 02/10/2014 19:48

Babies and allergies is a scary combo! I feel for any of you that have to deal with it.

Went to baby signing class today and won't be going back. I think she's too old to start it now. There was a lot of sitting in one spot doing actions to songs and she just wanted to crawl around everywhere and wasn't interested. There was another baby who was 11mo who sat nicely and all the others were tiny and immobile! She loved the music class on a Monday so I'm going to sign us up for that Smile

BookTart · 02/10/2014 20:25

I had that problem with Jumping Beans Felix, she's not quite walking yet so had to be in the class with the immobile slug babies. I still go to baby signing, even though she spends the whole class crawling away and not taking any notice of me or the teacher, because I like it :)

Yes altered, they inherit the tendency to be allergic to stuff, not allergies to specific things apparently. Luckily we've only had to avoid dairy so far, but they don't test for allergies here until they are older so it isn't really confirmed. This is annoying, because I might be missing out on cheese and chocolate for no good reason, just in case!

Persephone has had a streaming cold and terrible teething for a week now. All our sleep work as gone to pot totally, and she's back to waking 10-12 times a night. She refuses Calpol and Nurofen, but tonight I've tried her with Disprol which she took relatively happily (the little weirdo). She's been so unhappy, the poor thing. Today I walked out to the local shopping centre with her, but she lost the plot in Next (fair enough) and I had to carry her and all the shopping home Sad. I really hope she's better soon, I think I'm going stir crazy. Apart from this morning we've been indoors since Sunday!

Is anyone else finding their babies are still sometimes sick after eating? Either N is just a bit sicky (after food not milk) or he is intolerant to everything. Hope it is the former. He is also quite greedy. I like BLW but not sure it is the way to go when he is eating so much. Can babies overfeed themselves?

DD has gone off to friday prayers with DH with a big christmas stocking. That's my girl!

BookTart · 03/10/2014 12:13

Only the first time she had solids altered, although she always has a fit of coughing after she drinks from her sippy cup. Does he do it every time?

Gettingthroughthis · 04/10/2014 07:08

Sorry not been around much, trying to adjust to being back at work and also hopefully moving on Thursday if it doesn't all fall through. I also got the new job so I'll be able to work from home (apart from travelling to see customers) which will help.

book that sounds tough. I can't remember who recommended it but anbesol is great, helped us get through the 5 teeth at once. Sachets, anbesol and calpol. Would she take it off a spoon instead? Luckily H loves any medicine!

He has slept through for the last 2 nights (apart from waking up coughing I think due to his asthma but settled himself). Unfortunately he has now decided 5am is morning and stands up in his cot chattering on with the odd shout. Really can't complain though as so much better than he's ever done. Hopefully he can let the other non sleepers know via their secret Facebook group

BookTart · 04/10/2014 07:25

Congratulations on the new job getting, and well done with the sleep H! Please tell the others that this is the new plan Smile

Sadly she refuses Calpol from a spoon, sachet or syringe. Last night she refused the Disprol she took the night before. I'm going to have to buy suppositories aren't I? I feel a bit weird about it. I know it sounds pathetic, but I literally can't get painkillers into her without her being pinned down and her head being held still. Even then she just spits it back out. And Anbesol etc. are all greeted with a clamped shut mouth. I can physically force her, but last time I did it ended in a screaming fit so huge that she actually fell asleep at the end of it. She's barely slept for over a week now. What's more annoying is that she takes horrible Omeprazole every morning from a spoon, no problem.

Gettingthroughthis · 04/10/2014 08:37

I'm not sure it would help but have you tried the different types of calpol? Sugar free/ sugar/ the cheap stuff? Might taste slightly different?

Swannykazoo · 04/10/2014 09:57

Boo for teething. Definite teething (7 in so far, one must be due soon) and also kling-on baby too. Went out for drink with work girls last night- left at 5, planned to be home at 7:30 but was summoned home by DH at 7 due to hysterical child. Wasn't hysterical. My mum managed two hours with little puggle 3 months ago and its his child FFS. I'm quite cross as I think it was just that LP was a bit whiny and needed entertained and DH wanted to sit and piss about on the laptop as usual. Grr.

FizzypopFireball · 04/10/2014 15:21

book, I give H calpol/calprofen in a bottle with about 10mls or less of water. I don't know if it dilutes the medicine, but I know that at least he's had some. Otherwise he just spits it out. Hope P feels better soon.

Hope all the poorly babies get better soon. H has had a mystery temperature for a couple of days now. It's not super high, but he's overly warm and grumpy. He's also off his food. I think it's probably teething but he's got 8 already and we've never had this before. DH is working away from home so I'm having to cope on my tod. Sad

AnotherStitchInTime · 04/10/2014 15:46

Getting congrats on the new job. You do sound very busy, hope it all goes well.

Book dd2 hates calpol but likes Sainsbury's ibuprofen as it is orange flavour. I was going to suggest diluting with squash, juice or water too.

Well I have just managed to have a shower and get dressed despite being up since 6.30am with ds. Combination of kling-on baby and arguing older children has really slowed me up today. Still I did make a lovely butternut squash soup and feel refreshed after the two youngest slept even if I didn't. Just having an hour with only dd1 awake was like bliss.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 04/10/2014 16:17

Congratulations getting!!

BookTart · 04/10/2014 19:38

Sounds busy another! People that have more than one baby deserve a medal in my book, you're all superheroes!

I'll give watering the calpol down a try. I've tried orange flavoured ibuprofen before and that was another big NO, but at least it is only half as much to get down her. This top tooth has been coming through for over a week now, and she's been so miserable with it the poor thing. Today she had a proper wailing fit when we were in town, and I could see her gum hanging down and flapping about. It must be so sore. Amazed at all the babies with 7 or 8 teeth already - this is only number 3 here!

Gettingthroughthis · 04/10/2014 20:17

H has 7 now and has been dribbling a lot recently so it could be the 8th. That should be in for a while then

Gettingthroughthis · 04/10/2014 20:18

book would she take anbesol on a dummy/ bottle teat? If it's already coming through something directly on the gum should hopefully work. Poor thing

BookTart · 04/10/2014 20:24

Ooh, good idea getting. Having refused a dummy thus far, she suddenly started using them as teethers recently. I can con her into using Anbesol Grin

DH is currently upstairs settling her on the bed without feeding for the first time. It is all very quiet. Fingers crossed...

Gettingthroughthis · 04/10/2014 20:49

Good luck

After saying how good h was last 2 nights he's now refusing to sleep. Currently in our bed with him. I think it's because he's wheezy and coughing. Is that usual to make them grumpy? It's not like he can't breathe just like he has a cold

Naturegirl82 · 05/10/2014 10:15

Congrats on the job getting

Book hopefully the teeth will come through soon. O is getting her third tooth at the moment but apart from a lot of chewing seems to be doing ok.

O slept really well last night. 7-3.30, 10 min feed, then slept till 6.45. I'm wondering if it was because I gave her dinner later than normal. What time does everyone do dinner and bed?

Gettingthroughthis · 05/10/2014 16:54

When h is at nursery he has dinner about 3.30/4 then a bottle at bed time (6/7). At home dinner about 5. Doesn't seem to make much difference to sleep. But then in the mornings when he's at nursery he doesn't have any milk/ breakfast until 8.15 ish from last bottle at 6/7pm so think he can go ages without food like a camel!

MrsGSR · 05/10/2014 21:38

L only has two teeth. She's slept really bad since DH went away. I'm staying with my dad at the minute. He works from home and has been taking her into his office for an hour or so in the morning so I can sleep. DH is doing 14+ hour days so he'll be exhausted when he gets back too!

I can't remember who mentioned their baby getting hyper when overtired, but I found this (when hunting for anything that might help!):
"Why do kids seem to be more wired the less shut-eye they get? If a child doesn't go to sleep at the physiologically appointed time, his brain will say, "Fine, stay up then," and secrete a hormone called cortisol to help keep him awake. As a result, "it takes him longer to go to sleep when you finally get him to bed, and thanks to residual cortisol in his brain, he'll wake up earlier than usual the next day, be overtired and have trouble napping," says West. "It's a downward spiral.""

TobyLerone · 05/10/2014 22:34

Is M the only toothless one now?!

Swannykazoo · 06/10/2014 07:59

Yikes MrsGSR - we have a definite hyperhyper baby when tired - might have to try and work on that.
Had to peel little puggle off me to go to work this morning Sad

BookTart · 06/10/2014 09:07

The sleep consultant is always talking about cortisol levels. I let P get over-tired last night and she took ages to settle, woke about a billion times and woke at 4:30 today. Won't make that mistake again!

DB and his new gf are coming to stay today. P won't be put down, so I haven't even hoovered Blush

pumpkinsweetie · 06/10/2014 10:38

Baby pumpkin also won't be put down at the moment and I have given it to putting the TV on for her just so I can get things done around the houseShock
With 5 DC to clean up after it's what I have had to resort too!

Still waiting for toothy no 4 to come in, think it's giving her a bit of jip in the evenings as she won't settle properly until I have picked her up and put her back in the cot.

Swannykazoo · 06/10/2014 13:50

I'm really glad its not just me with a kling-on baby. If I even turn my back there are tears. DH is now also being a man child and sulking slightly offended by this
