Excellent news, altered!

Felix, Meredith doesn't have any teeth yet, and she's almost entirely BLW. How about dry cereal for her to pick up with her fingers? She can't possibly choke on a Rice Krispie and she might enjoy crunching them. I often give M a few Cheerios or (shhh!) Coco Pops on her highchair tray to keep her occupied while I am clearing up or folding laundry.
Or banana? It's the texture she's used to, but she can eat it as finger food so it might get her used to feeding herself without being too much of a shock to her system.

FizzypopFireball · 21/09/2014 20:47

Hooray, altered, that all sounds great!

Well done, mini-million for the potty-training!

Toby, glad M is feeling better.

Felix and angel, I'm doing a mixture of finger foods and spoon feeding. I gave the purely blw a go, but found it so slow and frustrating. H likes to pick up the teeny tiniest piece of food and fixate on it for a few minutes before putting it in his mouth. He also seems to think that if he can't swallow something immediately, then shoving it down more with his fingers will help! The Organix crispy puff things have been good to help him learn, and from there I moved onto banana pancakes, omelette, and French toast. I tend to break it up into smaller bits rather than the usual finger-sized bits as he seems to find this easier to manage.

FelixFelix · 21/09/2014 21:03

Thanks Toby and fizzy. I'm going to have a good try starting tomorrow with more solid foods. She has eaten toast before and was fine with it, but then starting coughing it back up the other times I gave it her. It's really odd as she was good with finger foods when I first tried her at 6 months, then after a couple of weeks she started really struggling. Weird!

TobyLerone · 21/09/2014 21:08

It might seem counterintuitive, but crunchy/harder things might be better than stuff like bread at the moment. Bread/toast quickly turns into a big lump and can be difficult to eat. If she eats rice cakes, she might like breadsticks? Tesco do some which are smaller than usual. They're the perfect size for a baby.

TobyLerone · 21/09/2014 21:09

Don't forget that it's still mainly about her exploring food and learning about textures and stuff, so don't worry too much that she's not eating loads. She'll get it in her own time :)

FelixFelix · 21/09/2014 21:14

I try breadsticks all the time but she still coughs them up. She loves the humous though Grin

AnotherStitchInTime · 21/09/2014 21:15

Great news altered

Well done master million on potty training, might have to get you to talk to dd2 who refuses even though she fully understands the concept!

Mixture of blw and spoon fed here. M will eat bits of our plates and snacks that are blw, I fill him up first with mush. Dd2 was so independent she refused spoon feeding, but took longer to eat a good quantity of food and relied on milk a lot. M loves food of any kind and as I am looking to go back to work soon needs to be less boob reliant.

Still got odd sleep here too. M's trick is to wake up at 4am for an hour then go back to sleep, coupled with four wakes before that. My sympathies MrsG your sleep situation sounds dire.

TarkaTheOtter · 21/09/2014 21:46

million I am so Envy about the potty training. It's probably been my least favourite bit of parenting so far. Dd just hasn't got a clue, and whilst she's still youngish (2yr7m) it sucks seeing all her friends get it so easily. After our failed first attempt I'm trying to wait til the new year but it has to be done by next Sept (prerequisite for the preschool I've chosen) and I'm feeling the pressure already.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 22/09/2014 05:31

Don't stress Tarka it really isn't worth stressing over. He has just (as in, last Friday) turned 3. 3 weeks ago he didn't get it, just all of a sudden it clicked. I always said I wouldn't stress until he was 4. It just worked out well.

FelixFelix · 22/09/2014 11:59

Eek not looking forward to toilet training!

Oh my good golly having a mobile baby is EXHAUSTING. She's banged her head and cried 6 times already this morning and I'm constantly having to rescue her from being wedged in weird places or stopping her from grabbing various things. I know it will only get worse once she starts walking ConfusedGrin

Angelesque · 22/09/2014 12:46

Thanks everyone - you've made me realise I need to be braver Grin I think a lot of it is independence - he hates being spoonfed but loves crunching down his sweet corn rings. I'm off to buy breadsticks and salmon

alteredimages · 22/09/2014 12:51

tarka DD took a bit of time too and always regressed in winter. It might be an idea to wait til the spring because a lot of kids get confused between being cold and having a full bladder. DD starts pooing herself every november, which lasts til around christmas. It is really weird but the cold mixes her up.

We had the same thing last year and she needed to be nappy free by september. I started seriously in may and she was finished within two weeks. She was 2yrs 9 months at that point. She had previously been toilet trained at nursery but it all went to pot as soon as the weather turned. It really will be ok!

felix I often wish I could turn N back to the tiny baby stage for a couple if hours just so I could stop running around after him.

Mythreeknights · 22/09/2014 13:05

Well done on all sleep and potty training progress!

Nothing that exciting happening here. 6 catepillars turned up today from DS2s godmother. They turn into butterflies over the next 4 weeks, so it's a real science project for him (he is four and thinks he's the king of all spiders, aka spiderman). Lucy is sitting brilliantly, has two teeth, but no inclination to roll, crawl or pull up. Funny seeing how you are mostly installing stair gates etc. I don't think we'll get her crawling until Xmas!

AnotherStitchInTime · 22/09/2014 13:52

M is cruising! Where has my little baby gone? Everything in our flat is barricades, stair gates and padding.

That is exciting Mythree, dd1 loved watching the caterpillars metamorphosis in Reception.

FelixFelix · 22/09/2014 14:25

Waaah they are all growing up too fast ConfusedSad

beccajoh · 22/09/2014 17:45

I don't think it'll be long before we have to get the stair gates back out. We took them down just before DD turned 2, but hadn't had them closed for at least a couple of months before that as she's always been v confident on the stairs. I'm kind of hoping Archie is also a climber. DD was (still is) a menace but it meant she was reliable at stairs and so on pretty quickly.

OP posts:
beccajoh · 22/09/2014 19:44

Both my children having streaming colds. Archie is so bunged up he can't suck his dummy = can't get to sleep Sad I tried propping him up in his car seat but that didn't help. DH is up there cuddling him off to sleep the moment. I think it's going to be a v disrupted night. DD keeps waking up and sneezing, followed by shouts of "oh dear! tissue mummy! Oh NOOOOO!" So wise folks, need your advice if that's ok.
Our bedtime routine is baby dinner, 5 ish, BF when I get in, our dinner 6ish, (before 7 anyway unless work is a disaster) quick play, cream, more cream, bedtime nappy and jammies then feed to sleep on my lap. Works great, I don't have to run up and downstairs and get to gaze at little puggles wee lovely face as he dreams of booby. But, I would sometimes like not to be stuck under a sleeping baby all evening, might even get a chance of some nooky as this is a very very dry spell and I've no idea how we'd have another at this rate..and I tend to wake him up taking him up to bed too so maybe need to think about getting him to sleep upstairs. We've got a three sided cot bed attached to our bed so could try feeding in bed and sneaking out later but I'm a bit worried about him waking up and crawling off our bit of the bed /climbing over the side. Any top tips? I'm wondering if I'm being a bit PFB. Probably need a baby monitor too bugger (can't really hear our bedroom from living room as its different ends of house) or the classy mattress on floor option for everyone.

FelixFelix · 22/09/2014 20:34

Becca what a nightmare Sad I hope everyone is feeling better soon. Sorry I've been meaning to ask you for a while, but how are you? I know you had surgery a while back and was wondering how recovery is going?

Puggle does the cot convert in to a 4 sided one? If not, could you get a bed guard thing and attach that between the bed and the cot? Sorry I'm rubbish and can't really think of a solution!

pumpkinsweetie · 22/09/2014 22:00

Hi guys, haven't been here for a while guys, waves!Smile

Baby pumpkin has 3 teeth, top one only just came through yesterday, the one that gave her the most jip

Naturegirl82 · 23/09/2014 08:30

I'm back. Managed to stay away for the whole weekend and it was amazing! O was ok, I think she was a bit sad on Sunday but coped. She slept really well for Dh, and didn't want any milk during the night when he had her! But it seems to have broken her need to feed during the night. Sunday night she slept 7-11.30, fed, then slept till 4.30 and fed. Last night she slept from 6.45, woke at 10 and 3 but settled herself (I didn't even pick her up) and woke at 4.45 for a feed. Yay. Hoping it continues and I can try to start pushing the 4.45 feed back a bit as we are up at 6 anyway.

Very annoyingly I have forgotten to put breast pads in today, which wouldn't be a problem except I have also forgotten to bring my breastpump to work with me! Argh. I shall have to try and hand express!

Yay for all the new mobile babies. I think I'm weird as I don't find it too hard with O moving around. She has taken 5 steps in a row now, so is getting better.

Is it really bad that I am considering getting a cleaner? I just hate spending what little time I have cleaning the house!

BookTart · 23/09/2014 09:20

Hooray for the sleep nature. And I think you should get a cleaner. Definitely Smile

Hope everyone is better soon becca.

I'm working on this right now puggle. Until last week P fed to sleep on my lap and I was trapped under her all evening. This week DH has been doing her bedtime routine upstairs and then settling her on his lap in front of the tv downstairs. Now he is trapped under her all evening! Next week he's going to try staying in her room after the bedtime routine and then settle her on the bed next to him (I cosleep with her in her room on a double atm). We're going to take it in turns to play on our iPads watch her until I get in bed with her. The plan is then to try settling her in her as-yet-unused cot, but we shall see!

MrsGSR · 23/09/2014 10:08

Glad your weekend was good nature :)

DH took L again last night, so I'm feeling quite refreshed! Last night was night 6, and wasn't great. nights 2 & 3 were good but it seems to have gone downhill since then.
Probably a stupid question, but with gradual retreat do you still move further away even if they're not improving? DH goes away this weekend so I'm hoping she'll have improved a bit by then!

Puggle we had the same problem, with a 3 sided cot. We were putting her down in the cot, until she started crawling. Then she slept downstairs for a while, but now I'm doing full time OU I need to be able to work in the evenings! So lots of sympathy from me.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 23/09/2014 11:52

I'm glad you had a good weekend nature

beccajoh · 23/09/2014 12:37

Felix, yes I'm recovering well from the surgery thanks. Unfortunately the cancer still spread so my situation is fairly dire - technically I'm stage 4, so terminally ill, but my oncologist says there's so many astonishing new treatments coming along that he doesn't think the outcome is inevitable. There's a small chance they might be able to knock it on the head altogether, but more likely is that it'll be present but 'managed' for the foreseeable.
