Woo mrsg

Have a great weekend away nature

Sorry for the lack of update, being back at work means I'm stupid busy, don't know how you've all managed so well! Interview went well I hope, hear back next week so fingers crossed. Would be working from home so much less stressful. I've been at work 2 days and both times trains have been delayed meaning stressful rush to nursery before it closes.

On Henry's first day at nursery he learnt to clap and now does it all the time. Also I think he waved today :)

Gettingthroughthis · 19/09/2014 19:34

Unfortunately going back to work has coincided with 2 new teeth popping through (think there's more but I cant get a proper look) so that'll be 5 and also his chesty cough seems to be getting worse so going to doctors in the morning to see if we need anti biotics

FelixFelix · 19/09/2014 20:33

Getting my Aunty told me that teething and chest infections go hand in hand, so that's probably why he's bad with it. Hope they give you something to clear it up. Also got everything crossed for the new job!! Working from home sounds so much better for you.

Gettingthroughthis · 19/09/2014 22:45

Hadn't heard that before felix so that's good to know. Was worried he was just a sickly baby as always a bit chesty

FelixFelix · 19/09/2014 22:47

I have no idea how it's connected, but she said my two cousins always had chest infections when their teeth were coming through. I suppose it's the same as random bad nappy rash when teething too. Babies are weird! Grin

MrsGSR · 20/09/2014 04:37

Tonight was very good until two hours ago. She slept 7.30-10ish, was awake for less than 10 minutes, stirred again at 11 but then slept until 2.30! but shes been awake since then. I've changed her and given in and fed her, but it's not looking hopeful! Still a lot better than it was though so I can't really complain.

FelixFelix · 20/09/2014 11:29

It's progress MrsG Smile

We had a better night too. She woke up briefly a couple of times between 7pm - 1am but went back to sleep with her dummy. Woke up at 1.30 and had half a bottle, then woke up again at 3 for the other half and I changed her. Then DP got up with her at 6.30 Smile

BookTart · 20/09/2014 14:04

Hooray for the better nights Grin

Sleep training has sent our naps and nights down the toilet this week. She has dropped her afternoon nap Sad but despite that was wide awake between 12 and 3:30 this morning. Feels a bit like it'll never be fixed. Wah.

beccajoh · 20/09/2014 15:54

Glad your nights are getting better! I'm not going to tell you about our night because I'll sound like a dick Blush

Booktart, hopefully getting worse before it gets better is part of the plan....

Yay for better nights.

Boo for shitter nights.

Ours are about the same.

Boo for teething. M still doesn't have any teeth!

DD1, Meredith and I have been out for dinner. DH left for San Francisco this morning and DS has gone out to a party so it's just us. M is in bed and we're watching X Factor. Rock and roll!

MrsGSR · 20/09/2014 20:58

I'm (roughly) doing a ten day plan, it says there's normally a regression on day 5. Annoyingly, for us that's tomorrow night, when DH needs his sleep before work on Monday.

Angelesque · 20/09/2014 21:23

Hello all! Haven't been about for a while due to work pressure...

getting six weeks back at work now and it's so bloody hard, isn't it?! Supposed to be four days, but do about three hours on my day off, work every night and about another 3/4 hours every weekend... Exhausting. F is coping brilliantly, he's such a star... Mum and dad are knackered and clinging on by a thread!

Angelesque · 20/09/2014 21:28

Question: how is weaning going for everyone? F is a bit behind most of you guys (7 1/2m) and I feel like it's not going brilliantly... He only really likes really smooth fruit and veg purées, or Organix sweet corn rings and melted Cadbury buttons. Fish, chicken, anything lumpy... Goes down like shit sandwich. I keep trying but it's not working... He's now started doing the jammed together lips and shaking head when I try to spoon feed him Sad

TarkaTheOtter · 20/09/2014 21:42

Angelesque have you tried giving fish and chicken as finger foods? Ds will only really eat fruit puréed but loved chewing on chicken, broccoli etc as finger food.

Angelesque · 20/09/2014 21:56

tarka I haven't... Big pieces of chicken to chew on? How big? I think you're right re: BLW though... Sweet corn rings he loves, chews on, swallows, does it himself... Hates being spoonfed. He's so bloody independent already... Brushes his teeth by himself already... Top and bottom!!!

I just need not to be so scared. I'm quite crap though - he bites off 1/4 sweet corn ring and I'm fingers in there fishing it out "in case he chokes" Blush

TarkaTheOtter · 20/09/2014 22:06

I'd give a finger size bit of shredded chicken. But I think I might be too relaxed about choking because the only things I worry about are grapes! hot dogs, marshmallows and whole nuts. I was quite set on giving more puréed stuff this time round. We did BLW with dd and she's not a great eater (likes everything separate). But A hates being spoofed unless it's something he really wants.

MrsGSR · 20/09/2014 22:36

I read an article (can't remember where so might be complete crap!) which said that a baby's voice box is higher in their throat than ours, so their gag reflex kicks in earlier. So their less likely to choke than we are. We're doing BLW with L as it works better for us, she's managed fine with everything so far. Her dinner tends to be batons of chicken, cod or salmon, and veg.

TobyLerone · 20/09/2014 23:58

BLW is absolutely the way forward. You have to trust them. F might gag more than most when (if) you first start because he's used to purées, but that's what they're supposed to do. It's scary at first but you get much more relaxed about it with time.
M swallowed and gagged back up the same piece of toast about 10 times this morning before she finally managed to gum it enough to swallow properly :o

We're not doing strict BLW, though. She'll still take things like yogurt, rice pudding, porridge, risotto etc from a spoon. I was worried that it might cause problems like Tarka mentioned if I didn't make sure she had a mixture of things.

Incidentally, she wasn't all that arsed about food for ages. She'd happily mess around with whatever I gave her and eat very small bits, but wasn't bothered really. Then this week she had an upset tummy and just had BM for a couple of days. On the first day I reintroduced food (dry toast and banana), she wolfed it down like there was no tomorrow and hasn't stopped since!

AMillionNameChangesLater · 21/09/2014 06:45

Henry has a mix of spoon fed, and blw. Mainly spoon fed. But he's on regular sized food. Seems to be going well.

Ds1 is potty trained! Started on Thursday, on Friday we went out to church it was 1.5hr drive away and no accidents! He's now totally trained. Am v happy

Gettingthroughthis · 21/09/2014 08:07

Great news million. Have you tried Henry on ice cubes to get some water into him? My Henry happily sucks them

angel f is the same age as Henry but I started quite early. It took ages for him to want food but now he eats 3 meals a day and more if I'd let him. I do the same as toby, if it's stuff he can pick up he will, if it's messy ill spoon feed. I also heard spoon feeding is good for their speech development as they learn to bring their top lip down.

beccajoh · 21/09/2014 16:35

Definitely give some finger food Grin We spoon feed and BLW in this house, although I tend to think of it all as baby-led because I'm not force-feeding him at any point like the book suggests happens when you spoon-feed!

Stuff that I could eat with my hands he gets as is and feeds himself (pasta, fish fingers, toast, crumpets, pizza, chunks of meat, roasted veggies) but anything I'd always choose to eat with cutlery (fish pie, soup, cottage pie, yoghurt, porridge, cous cous etc) he has on a spoon.

Babies do gag pretty easily but generally speaking the offending bit of food reappears after a couple of seconds. If you go in hoiking out anything they could choke on, they'll never learn to deal with anything lumpy.

angel I am doing a mix of soups, purees etc and BLW. N has suddenly gone off spoonfeeding now and will only allow it if really hungry. He is 8.5 months now. He has been having big bits of boiled chicken since 6 months and it was initially the only food he was interested in. He has never choked on it, though he did once put so much chicken in his mouth he couldn't swallow or spit it out. Shock He now happily eats most stuff, especially cut up grapes and sweet potato.

Also, becca is completely right. I forgot to do finger foods with DD and she is still a bit funny about lumps now she is 4.

alteredimages · 21/09/2014 19:12

Today is great. DD will be taking the school bus from tomorrow, I may have found a job close to home, DH has received a pay rise and a bonus and is being seconded somewhere cool and the school are offering the extra curricular activities I was looking for at a convenient time. All in one day. Grin

FelixFelix · 21/09/2014 19:14

Altered that's great news!

We really struggle with finger food. I've tried and tried with S but most things she just coughs back up with loads of liquid then cries Confused she's spoon fed but on more of a mashed texture than puréed now. I give her rice cakes but she can't seem to chew and swallow anything else. She hasn't got any teeth yet so I don't know if that's the problem.
