New thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm going to get a waterproof all in one for M for when we go to watch DS play rugby. That way, she can even sit in the mud if need be and won't get manky. And if it's still cold when she's walking it'll come in handy.

As for the rest of the time, I'm not bothering with a coat for M. She can't wear one in the car seat, and when babies are in pushchairs they always look really uncomfortable when their coats ride up around their faces. I'm going to knit her some thick cardigans and a couple of hats, and buy her some gloves. These and the cosytoes will keep her warm.

FelixFelix · 11/09/2014 15:36

MrsG what a nightmare Sad I hope she starts sleeping soon. I know how exhausting it is!

Toby she's got loads of hand knitted thick cardis and I've just bought the cutest hat and mittens from Zara but she cried when I just tried them on her Grin I've seen a gorgeous red traditional style coat from matalan but you make a good point with the car seat and cosy toes thing. I think I'll just layer her up! She runs very warm anyway.

FizzypopFireball · 11/09/2014 16:25

Hmm! Thanks for asking that question Felix, and Toby, good points made. We bought a puffy jacket for Henry with a hood, which is too big atm, but with a view that he'll grow into it for winter. I've been thinking about taking it back though, as I'm not happy about him wearing it in the car, and I think it'll be too bulky in the buggy. DH says he can wear it when on the swings but an all-in-one will make more sense for that, especially as we're starting woodland baby classes next week. We've got a baba ganoush (uppa baby equivalent of cosy toes) which is supposedly good down to -10 or something, so that and a thick cardi and hat is surely better. Yes, back the jacket goes!

Sorry about the lack of sleep mrsg. Makes my mewling about tossing and turning all night seem rather pitiful!

TarkaTheOtter · 11/09/2014 16:29

I agree about layering. All in ones look cute but it's impossible to get one of a sleeping baby. Much easier if you have things you can pull back easily.

Right nature dh has won here and I have a completely unnecessary gps appt at 5pm. Have you made a call on your cough yet?

FelixFelix · 11/09/2014 16:32

Fizzy what's a woodland baby class? It sounds cool.

TarkaTheOtter · 11/09/2014 16:33

MrsGSR we had a lovely hour of activity at 5am this morning too. And close to hourly wake ups before that. I'm telling myself it's a sleep regression and it'll sort itself out. Not sure if that's true though.

A can now pull up on furniture but not crawl. He's getting so cross. Didn't have any of this with dd, she showed no interest in moving at all until 10months then just got it straight away.

FelixFelix · 11/09/2014 16:50

Tarka S is pulling up on things but not quite crawling yet! She tends to get about quickly to say she can't crawl though Blush

TobyLerone · 11/09/2014 17:29

If M is walking while it's still cold, I'll buy her a coat then, obv. But I think the pretty coats are probably for next year, for us.

M doesn't crawl properly. She commando crawls, but bloody fast! And she doesn't pull herself up much. She just doesn't seem in a hurry to do the physical stuff. I'm glad :o
She's learnt to clap this week, though!

Naturegirl82 · 11/09/2014 18:22

I wish O wasn't so into the physical things! She is a menace with the walker! Tries to ram you!

tarka hope it went well at the Dr's. It's harder for me to get to the Dr's now I'm back at work. I'll give it the weekend to see if it improves.

FizzypopFireball · 11/09/2014 18:59

Felix the woodland baby classes involve a walk through the local woods with prams to their Outdoor Den (a tarp over a temporary structure), where the babies get to explore cones, leaves, sticks and stuff, and the walking babies get buckets to collect Woodland Treasures (cones, leaves, sticks and stuff). When they're over 2yrs, they get to climb over logs, hunt for minibeasts, dig in the mud.... It's a bit more 'me' than the usual soft play things. Just hope H enjoys it as much as me!

He's commando crawling, and if wearing cord dungarees, he's forced to crawl properly cos they grip the carpet. No sign of wanting to walk. He loves us clapping but has no interest in doing it himself! I'm a bit jealous of the clapping babies!

FelixFelix · 11/09/2014 19:07

Toby clapping already! So clever Smile

Fizzy that sounds right up my street. I'm so jealous!

TarkaTheOtter · 11/09/2014 19:28

nature it's reasonably easy to get evening gp appt here but on the downside today's visit cost me 80€. Turns out I have tonsillitis though so glad I went.

A is very into banging but no clapping yet. I think waving should be coming up soonish shouldn't it? And high fives Grin. I can't remember from dd but I'm sure it was around the clapping stage.

TobyLerone · 11/09/2014 19:41

Fizzy, that sounds fab!

beccajoh · 11/09/2014 19:49

Those woodland baby classes sound great!

I've been trying to decide about a coat too. We've got a snowsuit DD had in 6-9 months, but no coats (she was born in the summer. I've got a warm gilet for him in age 12-18 months, but it's going to be huge on him (still fits DD now and she's an average sized two year old!) You can't put them in car seats in coats and thick jumpers, so I might not bother with one. I've got a puddle suit for him for when he starts walking.

I would hold off buying snowsuits until (if) it's actually cold enough. Last winter I think there were about three days it was actually cold enough to need one!

MrsGSR · 11/09/2014 20:06

SHE'S ASLEEP IN HER COT! I don't expect it to last more than about 5 seconds but it's still an improvement on yesterday.

I'm not sure about coats either. She's got a little fur lined body warmer that my aunt gave her, I'd love to buy her a snowsuit but she's growing so fast that I'll wait until the last minute or it won't fit her.

Naturegirl82 · 11/09/2014 20:20

Argh just wrote a big post and it disappeared Sad

tarka hope you feel better soon.

mrsg fx she stays asleep in her cot.

We have a bear snow suit. It was bought for O when she was born (in a big size!) but I doubt she will use it much. Will probably just get her a waterproof all in one thing as I think she will be walking by then.

FelixFelix · 12/09/2014 08:47

MrsG how did she sleep last night?

I am visiting my parents for the weekend with S and leaving DP at home to finish her nursery! My first longish drive and also first time on the motorway and I'm shitting it Confused

Gettingthroughthis · 12/09/2014 09:22

Those woodland classses sound great! Very jealous

Henry has his final settling in session today then 7.45-6 4 days a week from Monday :( don't want to go back to work. And have interview Wednesday where I need to do 15 minute presentation that I haven't started yet. Babies are hard work!

I bought Henry a puddle suit as they need them for nursery and am
Leaving coat/ snowsuit until nearer the time to avoid the pile of unworn coats/ snowsuits like last year

Naturegirl82 · 12/09/2014 17:20

Yay it's the weekend. Grin

Naturegirl82 · 12/09/2014 20:09

So tonight I am attempting a night off. Dh is going to try and look after O and I'm in the spare room. If he manages it then I get to go on my weekend or at least one night away next weekend. If he doesn't I won't be going. Wish him luck ladies Smile

MrsGSR · 12/09/2014 21:08

Hope you get your night off Nature, and that your drive has gone well Felix

She stayed in her cot for 3 lots of half an hour or less, then DH took her downstairs at 11pm and she slept in her pram and he slept on the sofa! They came up at 4am for a feed but it was still very refreshing. We really need to stop rocking/feeding her to sleep but it's so hard!

Naturegirl82 · 12/09/2014 21:14

mrsg have you tried not feeding her to sleep? We had two hard nights when I stopped but then it was fine and it does make it easier as Dh can now put her to bed. I've found she settles better during the night as well now. It isn't easy to start with though!

Gettingthroughthis · 12/09/2014 22:00

Good luck mrn

mrsg glad you got some sleep. As not bf can't really offer any advice I'm afraid

MrsGSR · 12/09/2014 22:26

I just don't know what to do instead of feeding. She won't go down awake, she crawls around, stands up, babbles and then crys when she gets bored. Leaving her to cry just makes her angry and she screams and screams. She'll only be rocked to sleep in her pram, rocking in our arms does nothing! White noise hasn't worked recently either. Just a bit lost!

Naturegirl82 · 12/09/2014 22:32

It's tricky mrsg, we ended up doing pick up put down but it was incredibly hard. There are still some nights where it takes her a while to go down but we think as long as we are consistent it should help. Does she have a time she normally goes to sleep?
