Has anyone weaned their LO off Omeprazole? Last time we stopped it there was a clear return of symptoms but J was still getting soya. Now his skin is clear and isn't having any pain so I would like to try stopping it again if his GP approves. I'm so fed up with all the diarrhoea, it seems to be getting worse if anything and it's a pooplosion every time, usually twice a day. Also he's always thirsty because he's losing so much fluid.

Good evening all.

Great to see you pr. It sounds like you have had a very productive wee while. I am impressed with lo's progress with the potty. The worms is horrid and is something I have yet to experience. Icky.

Poor pig family. It sounds awful. I suspect that p has her big molars coming or others are shifting and there is a river of drool constantly. She sometimes sucks/chews so hard on her fingers she makes herself sick. I hope little pig is better soon.

P wasn't in bed until midnight last night after all of the family excitement yesterday and then woke at 7:30 which is far less sleep than she is used to. Therefore she has been a clingy miss pretty much all day and it took three episodes of peppa along with tight "mummycuddles" before she was calm enough for me to empty the dishwasher.

We did have a play date and then had to wait in all afternoon for a delivery which only came half an hour ago.

On the potty training front we have had a bit of a development. As I have mentioned before we bought a potty some months ago and p has used it for fun on and off - usually for sitting on while I am weeing. Anyway, for the last three nights she has announced urgently during her bath that she needs a wee wee and points to the potty. She also does a crouchy, cross legged, hand between the legs thing. We have whipped her out and popped her on and each time she has weed. Tonight she got up and ran off after a minute or so but then announced "wee wee!!" And looked anxious in our room. She did a tiny dribble but stopped and DH got her on to the potty where she finished off. She got her nappy put on but announced not long after that she needed potty but by the time I got it off her she had been. She is clearly still doing lots of little wees but is able to hold a tiny bit and knows when it is going to happen. My mum told me yesterday that I was fully dry during the day by 2 years old so who knows.

It has been a quiet quiche of late. Love to all. Xx

Oh stunt. Omeprazole. We weaned p off hers a while ago with the support of our pharmacist. As you know it is important to do it very carefully as stopping suddenly causes a reaction which is exactly like reflux therefore it is difficult to know what is causing it.

P was on 15ml per day - 10ml morning and 5 ml night. We gave her it by mixing with her milk by taking a wee amount from the bottle and mixing it into a small bottle with the meds. She then drank this then had her full bottle.

We started by putting the night meds straight into her big bottle as a gentle way of reducing the amount as she didn't always have the full bottle. More scientific would be to reduce it by half each time you want to step down. After a couple of weeks of this we stopped the night dose.

Day dose we did every second day after stopping the night dose. Our pharmacist was pretty certain hat his would be ok for p but suggested halving the dose but maintaining every day if we were unsure. We stuck to every second day for about two or three weeks then she stopped taking milk so we just stopped completely as it coincided.

So, the message was slow and steady. No massive drops and watch carefully for issues. P showed absolutely no signs of distress at all and the only residual issues are that she is still a burpy girl but they cause her no problems.

Stunt I'd ask to go back on neocate and wean gradually onto whatever milk substitute you want to use so he gets used to the flavour. It's how we got J to take his neocate. He's still getting it and current advice was to stay on hydrolysed formula until age 2 before choosing a milk alternative. He's also still O omeprazole and gabion. His sleep is still Shit so I'd be scared to stop either!

izzy has a very good point. We only weaned off omeprazole when p was eating cheese and drinking cow's milk so it was a last stage. That might be the wrong way round but we saw it as she was completely symptom free so we would know exactly what was causing the symptoms if we stopped the meds

My niece was weaned off it at 2.5 in a manner v similar to that suggested by Pass however she can't yet take dairy her Mum is just super careful at avoiding it. As for the explosive poos that's more likely to be from gut damage from allergen exposure / secondary lactose intolerance than omeprazole and would be a sign to keep on the meds. My niece still has it after 8 months off omeprazole. Sad

Thanks guys. Symptomatically J is better: no pain at nights, eczema has cleared up, much happier in himself and more content. But the diarrhoea has gone from bad to worse and I know it can be a side effect of the Omeprazole. We're hoping he'll be able to take well-cooked egg in the next six months as his last challenge went so well and he's been egg-free for over a year. His reaction to soya also isn't too severe. But I anticipate I'll have to keep him dairy-free for a good long while as his reaction to milk was so extreme. I've cut down a lot on dairy myself and it's done wonders for my nasal congestion.

Also J is on 10mg Omeprazole (Losec MUPS), how does that compare to the other LOs?

Still on top whack omeprazole here, Stunt. F is on the whole happy and sleeping but unable to tolerate lower doses yet. I have stopped worrying about it tbh as it keeps hings on an even keel. J has only been "sorted" for a little while iirc, so I wouldn't panic if he's not ready to come off it. And yes to sloooow reduction - we missed a day once and all hell broke loose.

20mg here Stunt.

Off to a farm park with my little brother and F today. He's tired as he got up with her at 2.30 when she had a wobble. Dh woke to find peppa pig on and a super pleased F!

Very tiring day today. DD1 woke me up last night because of a thunderstorm (there wasn't one). Of course she fell straight back to sleep but for some unknown reason I just couldn't get back to sleep so had about 3 hrs. Then DD1 was an absolute nightmare in the morning. Luckily we went out for a lovely picnic with some friends to celebrate a friends birthday. Going to crack on with giving the girls tea now and get them to bed nice and early. I don't think E will take kindly to this as she had a late nap in the car but by god I need some sofa time!

I did nothing today. Watched old comedies on my iplayer app and slept. Oops.

Today's to-do list has been postponed until tomorrow.

LO had no accidents at nursery. I am very proud of her for doing so well despite me breaking all my own rules re training. She is drmanding nappies for poo though. She has a funny relationship with poo.

Oh. I used wasp spray on a wasp in my kitchen today that wouldn't go back outside. It soaked my kitchen, fire extinguisher effect. Looked at bottle. Was a spray for nests with a 6 metre power. Not for indoor use. My kitchen stinks. And my basil plant got caught in the crossfire. And the wasp flew outside just as I sprayed its arse and the rest of the kitchen

Oops.

Am amazed by potty training skillz. F announces wee wee or (as of today) bum (?!?) for wees and poos but won't part with them in a potty yet. Hey ho.

Think I might go to bed.

Rock and roll.
