Hope everyone finds this and I haven't doubled up!

I've got really bad back pain and ds is spinning on his zebra crying. No idea why!

Stacks my mum taught me to read at around this age, I was on Roald Dahl by reception. The flash cards are coming out soon - his favourite thing is sitting on the sofa with a book either being read to or "reading" to himself. There's an old jigsaw of mine that's words and matching pictures, if you give him the word he can match it to the picture and say them all too (stuff like Egg, Cup, Car etc) although he doesn't put the piece together yet.

Snacks wise, maybe cucumber/carrot/apple in sticks? Hard boiled egg? Veggie sausages or burgers?

He's been back in nappies a while now, I'm not going to push things. Will try again in a few months if he seems interested. Trouble is he doesn't like being home, needs walking twice a day! So generally we get up, dressed, breakfast, out, home for nap and lunch, out again. I need to start getting home a bit earlier so he can run free before tea I think.

Spotty it's a huge change for her Brew

MrsNutella · 08/09/2014 23:00

stacks that is awesome! DH swears that DS pointed to the word No and said "no" but I wasn't convinced....

We have alphabet stickers on his wall with little pictures. When he points to the "W" it has a whale picture next to it, so then we say "whaaaaale" in a finding Nemo style Grin he loves it.

spotty poor DD it must be a huge change, it can't be easy for her. I hope she enjoys it more tomorrow!

pidj sorry R has a bit of rash. Hope it clears up without too much hassle. I think he is amazing with the potty training!
Actually, I have a question. I don't know if you have any ideas. I have cloth nappies for DD but she has little skinny chicken legs and we always have leaks Hmm. The only thing I can think of is folding a muslin, use a spare insert to boost it and pop a wrap on her... I'm just a bit lazy with the folding and I know DH will hate it. Do you have any other ideas?

Hales fx for H and bedtime!
I love the video of DS & DD because it totally captures DS. I think he really loves his sister, but he is also a maniac who likes to throw himself around. Like some kind of split personalityGrin

PurplePidjin · 08/09/2014 23:17

Nut fold a prefold into the wraps, fleece on top and off you go at least til she fits btp. r wets through anything less than a pf in a pocket anyway tbh

Lots of tears from dd this morning according to dp. She had a good day in the end though.

WLmum · 09/09/2014 20:57

Poor dd spotty. I hope she gets more into it as the days go by. Dd1 has taken her new school totally in her stride, but dd2 is less sure. Night waking and tears on Sunday. Today was her first proper day (morning only) and the teacher said she was a bit wobbly and asking for me before pick up. She talked about her day quite positively throughout the arvo though.

halestone · 09/09/2014 21:22

Wow all your talk of school makes me want to keep H small and with me forever. My friends how have children who have just turned 2 have had them start the school nurseries this week. I think i am the odd one out as i have no intention of sending H till shes 3.

WLmum · 09/09/2014 22:06

hales I didn't send dd1&2 until they were 3.5 and I was def the odd one out. I was lucky in that I didn't need it as childcare so sent them as pre school preparing to be away from the home and in large groups etc. but most people I knew sent them asap whether they needed it for childcare or not. Courses for horses I guess but I liked having them with me and won't send T until after she's 3 unless I have to increase my working hours.

halestone · 09/09/2014 23:01

WL i definitely don't blame them for sending their DC now. At the moment though i just think she gets plenty of stimulus from her cousin and my friends children. And like you i want her being with me i want to enjoy this time.

DP's mum came to tea tonight and H the traitor Morris Danced infront of her. His mum got all excited and said that it must be in H's blood and that there could be a space for her in the troop next year. I just said no shes only 2 so no.

halestone · 10/09/2014 00:37

I've just come back on this before i go to sleep and realised it looks like i don't know H's age. I meant she would be 2 when DP's mum wanted her to start dancing.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/09/2014 06:45

Ds will go to nursery after Christmas. Dd's confidence grew so much at nursery. He's going two mornings a week (if I an afford it!)

OP posts:
Barbeasty · 10/09/2014 09:01

A has been at nursery since 6 months, and will move to preschool when he's 2, but it's purely down to needing childcare.

SIL didn't use any nursery/ preschool for 4 or 5 of her DC and they all managed ok.

DD is saying she doesn't want to go to school today. Hopefully she'll come around by this afternoon.

A got to nursery this morning and said "where's Ruth". So big changes for everyone!

SpottyTeacakes · 10/09/2014 09:02

Dd cried all morning and I left her crying with the teacher

OP posts:
halestone · 10/09/2014 09:14

oh bless your Dds i hope they start to love school soon.

I have the opposite problem i cannot afford to send H to nursery now. My Friends children have started nurseries attached to schools which are free.

Barbeasty · 10/09/2014 09:54

At least she'll get the funding for 15hrs in the Jan once she's 3.

Spotty if she's happy once she's there, I know it's easy to say but I'm sure she'll be ok soon. Can you concentrate on things like who she's going to play with, or fun things she wants to do when she goes? Says the woman who fully expects to have to drag DD the half mile from the car to school today!

I think as they realise it's every day is a big thing too. DD asked DH if it was the school holidays today.

We had the nursery news letter today. All seemed to be a bit don't drop them off early or we'll charge you, don't pick them up late or we'll charge you, these 3 staff have left (and one may or may not be A's key worker, same first name not sure about surname). Made me feel less bad about moving him. And DD asked why there were lots of preschool children at the preschool at school. She thought it was a good idea to send A there.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/09/2014 09:58

She won't talk to me about it at all. She apparently only calmed down at 11 yesterday so was upset most the morning. I don't know, my mum etc are all full of well meaning advice but it's just pissing me off. It's not x y or a she doesn't like it's the whole thing.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 10/09/2014 11:56

Spotty BrewSad poor little duck, do you thing she'll settle once she's used to it?

R may well start ballet at 2, my mum's teacher runs a lovely kids class, but I'm not sure I'd start him Morrising too much beer swilling although i loved it as an older child and still go to festivals when I can

I shall send R to nursery after Christmas too, but I think he'll enjoy it and we're in the fortunate position that if he doesn't I'll just pull him out. They're all such different personalities - there's so much in the media and books about "babies like this that and the other" that it's easy to forget that they're miniature people - not all adults like eg computer games, why assume that all toddlers like to be sociable?!

SpottyTeacakes · 10/09/2014 12:25

I think she will pidj. She loved nursery I feel awful that she doesn't know anyone but she said she played with x, y and z yesterday and wanted to wait to say goodbye to them. I might see if one of them wants to come to the park with us after pick up.

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 10/09/2014 12:36

That's a good idea about the park, there's one up the road from me (I'm quite near a school) and there's often an influx at 3:30 from both the primary and secondary schools - even if none of her particular buddies are there others might be?

Maryland2013 · 10/09/2014 13:00

Hales have you checked to see if you qualify for help with childcare once H is 2? Obv if you're happy not to send her don't bother!
There's a helpline to check 0345 300 3900
DS loves nursery he seems to have really good days there :)

halestone · 10/09/2014 14:16

Ooo Maryland no i hadn't checked, the school i'm planning on sending h to doesn't accept children till their 3 though. My DN is 3 in October and is starting this January. I am lucky that i work when DP is off and he works nights so we don't need to send her just yet.

Barbeasty · 10/09/2014 14:32

This link was posted on another thread Spotty and really does seem to work to get the DC to talk a bit about school.

I think it's just dawning on DD that this is it. 5 days a week, no going to nursery, pretty much everyone else knows at least a few people (and in the half class who she's with this week about 99% all seem to have been at the same nursery!) I'm telling myself she'll be in charge of the class by Christmas!!

And she let go of my hand to go and sit on the carpet when we got there, and said she was going to make 2 new best friends today. So who knows.

We bought a big new set of pencil crayons on the way in today, for her homework. Homework every night so far!! Actually a sheet to trace then write today's letter and colour some pictures that start with the letter.

Maryland2013 · 10/09/2014 17:09

I think you get help towards private nurseries Hales?
I know everyone has their different ideas about nurseries/ child care.. As in every aspect of parenting!! But I genuinely think time with his peers helps DS with things like group story time, group eating, improving his language and communication, enjoying new experiences like messy play etc
He's such a sociable child but equally happy to play on his own. I'm really pleased with our nursery, not that we had a choice as I had to go back to work but even if I didn't I still would have sent him I think. My DN doesn't spend any time with her peer group (apart from DS) and I think it shows.
Hope the little ones at school settle down soon :)

Barbeasty · 10/09/2014 20:36

Spotty how did it go for DD today?

A was really excited to see DD when we picked him up.

SpottyTeacakes · 10/09/2014 20:38

She enjoyed it beasty but still doesn't want to go tomorrow Sad she's the only one who cries!

OP posts:
Barbeasty · 10/09/2014 21:23

She's the only one you see crying.

You don't know who had a meltdown when they got home, who tantrums before being taken in, who does it when they're left with their childminder before being dropped off...

It's hard, just hang on until Christmas. .. It's what I'm doing!
