howly I feel your 5am wake up pain- last feed was at 3 before that so I've not had any real sleep since before then got ds to sleep at 7 post another feed but awake after down aswell got him in sling which is my life line for getting stuff done but not getting any sleep! I generally struggled as ds slept so much yesterday eve so no colic screaming but also no sleep!

Going out this morning but chilling this afternoon!

AuntieMaggie · 26/08/2014 09:54

howly I agree about the new format and the only reason I'm still using the site is you lovely ladies on this thread! DS is 8 weeks but was like that but it does get better I promise you. I haven't made it to any groups yet... bit nervous about going if I'm honest - yes me who will go into various other situations on my own that other people feel uncomfortable doing is scared of a group of mothers!

DS had colic/wind/whatever you want to call it yesterday eve but had a good night's sleep which is good because he has his jabs today and mummy is probably going to cry!

ickle so far have not managed to really use the sling as he doesn't like it. Will try again today if he's in a good mood!

Just remembered a tip on here from someone that I've been doing which seems to help putting ds down - wrapping him in a blanket. So when he's drifting off to sleep on me I wrap a blanket round him sort of restricting his shoulders but not his hands cos he kicks off if I do that and then I gently place him in the crib and tighten the blanket round him and cover him in a second blanket which he always kicks off and gently keep my hand on his belly for a few mins if he starts stirring sometimes shushing. I think this helps because of the warmth and it smells a bit like me if he's had it on me. It doesn't always work and it doesn't work with the moses basket but has worked with bouncer/swing and car seat and even sofa (don't worry I was sat next to him the whole time it was just so I could eat!). Dunno what it is with the moses basket - I managed to get it to work once by putting the mattress on my lap and lifting him in when he fell asleep that way. DP has more luck with it than me but even so he doesn't sleep for long in it.

Howly 4 weeks is about when dd turned the corner for me. It was like she was getting hungrier and hungrier but didn't have the stomach capacity to take in enough to sustain her and then at around 4 weeks her belly started catching up with her hunger and she started being able to go for longer between feeds. She still cluster feeds in the afternoon though. Are you able to express and top her up with a bottle from time to time? That really worked for us.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 26/08/2014 12:11

Yay to more pics posting on facebook.

Zing happy birthday and well done on getting the baptism sorted. Am trying to organise DDs christening but finding a date where everyone is available is impossible. I wanted it done soon while she is still teeny but it looks like it will be January now. Sorry to hear you are in pain. If it is gallstones it will be more likely to flare up if you eat fattier foods. Try eating plain, less fatty food for a couple of days and if it eases it would suggest the gall bladder.

DD going through a phase of making weird sounds. Currently doing a goat impersonation..

icklekid · 26/08/2014 16:45

auntie yes I regularly do that with a muslin and place under where his head is so that doesn't get cold and can smell of me. Worked in pram, bouncy chair and basket!

Generally ds prefers bouncy chair in day so using that to put in from sling (1h in sling then 2h in chair max then due another feed!) What fun! Today he stayed asleep in pushchair after a walk so I managed to get over an hour of sleep which was amazing!

Managed to keep him awake in between waking, feeding and back to sleep so hopefully will wake up earlier this eve for feed and sleep better tonight!

Emilybunny · 26/08/2014 17:01

Hi khalessi welcome to the group!

Fox can I please be added to the Facebook group?

Sorry I've been absent for a while - nightmare few days as DS has been getting worked up for between 5-60 mins before each feed. Sometimes he goes on, sometimes he gets upset it seems to be randomn. Phoned midwife who said I had been discharged so they wouldn't help, but I managed to persuade them to give me an appointment with a consultant tomorrow. I think it
Could be forceful milk flow, as today it was better when I expressed first or leant back.

Happy birthday zing hope things work out with your gp. I sometimes think they are too quick to diagnose on a guess and hand out medication.

Fox28 · 26/08/2014 17:13

Emily send me a message with your email address then I can invite you Smile

AuntieMaggie · 26/08/2014 17:50

liquid ds has been doing goat impressions since about the second week... its annoying in the early hours when he does it in his sleep!

DS seems ok after his jabs though his little face after the second one broke my heart :(

Khaleesi1985 · 26/08/2014 20:05

dd has begun squeaking and cooing. She sounds like a little pigeon. She grunts in her sleep from time to time which is super-annoying. I've heard they grunt like that when they have baby heartburn...

elliejjtiny · 26/08/2014 21:19

Welcome Khaleesi.

Zing Happy Birthday and sorry you're not feeling well. Make sure you keep nagging the dr until they do something. I'm impressed you've got Elijah's baptism done already. We're having a dedication for DS5 and DH wants it done asap but I think I'll enjoy it more when I'm not so tired. We had Jeremiah's when he was 6 weeks old and I just burst into tears in the middle of it I was so tired and hormonal. I was thinking of having it after DS4's shunt operation and having a little thankyou prayer for keeping him safe as part of it. I'm not sure though. In fact the only thing I'm sure about is the outfit I'm going to wear! [shallow emoticon]

A new softplay place has opened a few mins walk from us which is great as finally there is a place I can walk to with the children without getting a bus. I braved it with all 5 DC on my own today and it went quite well. I'm shattered now though. I've got 3 appointments tomorrow and one of them is a home visit. I badly need to tidy up tonight but I can't be bothered.

icklekid · 27/08/2014 09:24

ellie I'm exactly the same want to wait for me not to be an emotional nightmare before ds dedication so will be post Christmas! Also 5 dc and soft play by yourself surely that is medal worthy?!

Khaleesi ds is never quiet in his sleep constant noise of some kind! Luckily dh and I can sleep through it!

auntie not looking forward to jabs next week, tissues (for mum), calpol (for baby ) at the ready!

ismarah · 27/08/2014 12:25

I misremembered when bean would get jabbed - I thought it was today but it's tomorrow. In my head I was all geared up to go out and now I'm oddly deflated.

I did think I could go to the mall and see if I could find something suitable for me to wear for my graduation but then I got sad because I'd be on my own with bean and that didn't seem as fun. This is one of the things I hate about being on mat leave - with nobody else on mat leave around me there's nobody to play with which exacerbates my feelings of loneliness from being an expat.

Happy birthday Zing and hope your health improves!

AuntieMaggie · 27/08/2014 13:01

Happy birthday zing.

DS has been fine no reaction to jabs so far but I gave him some calpol before bed last night incase his little legs got sore as I remember how my arm hurts after injections. He's been awake most of the morning til now when he's passed out on me while I was trying to give him gripe water (squeezed his lips and eyes shut little monkey! ).

MrsNutella · 27/08/2014 14:40

Oops you dropped off TIO.
DD seems a bit more settled day by day. She is having a sleepy day today.
We're having her weighed tomorrow. FX for a good gain so the mw doesn't moan at me Smile

Happy belated birthday Zing. I feel like I stalk you around MN Grin

Plateofcrumbs · 27/08/2014 16:53

Happy birthday zing - hope things improve for you soon.

Went for a weigh- in today and DS has put on a measily ounce since last week. He was above 50th percentile at birth and this takes him down to 9th. Was convinced things were going well this week so am absolutely gutted - cried to HV then came straight home and gave him a big bottle of formula.

Incapinka · 27/08/2014 17:55

Oh Plate. Don't beat yourself up. Having babies (& children) is all about 1 step forward 3 steps back. We are currently potty training DS and this is definitely the case.

We've just had our 6 week check. Is anyone else's baby not smiling yet? DD hasn't and isn't really tracking with her eyes which has left me concerned. Just when I thought everything was going ok a spanner is thrown in the works...

Happy belated birthday Zing!

Khaleesi1985 · 27/08/2014 20:39

Plate Don't worry too much! Every baby is different and every baby puts on weight differently! Are you exclusively breastfeeding? If so, remember that you can still have a successful breastfeeding relationship with him even if you have to top up with formula a bit. There's no need to be a breastfeeding purist if its not working for you/him.

Incapinka I thought that babies were supposed to start smiling between 6-8 weeks? I don't think you should be worrying about a baby that doesn't smile at 6 weeks. She'll get there in her own time!

icklekid · 27/08/2014 21:11

incapinka 7 weeks on Friday and no real smile here- in his sleep he pulls faces and occasion slight smile but nothing to get excited about Sad will be very exciting when we finally get there!

icklekid · 28/08/2014 08:00

So ladies nappies. ..what size are your babies in? We moved up to 2 as 1 was tight on legs- I find it really hard to know when its the right size or not. 7 weeks old, on 50th percentile and 11lb (ish last weighed a week ago! ) any tips?

Incapinka · 28/08/2014 09:22

Size 2 sounds about right but if you are getting leaks try a different brand. Some makes of nappies fit better than others. Trial and error.

Thanks for smile advice. Doctors have a way of making concerns when you think there isn't one. Evidently if she isn't smiling in 2 weeks there may be something wrong with her vision. I have now been waving black and white things round in front of her this morning and she does follow with her eyes so hopefully panic over!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 28/08/2014 09:38

ickle 7 nearly 8 weeks and still on 1 here. But then she is a long skinny thing and only weighed 9lb 2 last week. The midwives insist she be weighed again today as she is not gaining as much weight as she should, although she is gaining.

Quite glad we are still on 1 as we recieved 2 large (154 nappies) boxes of 1's as gifts, still got about 2/3rd of a box to go.

Todays other excitement after the weigh in is I have an appointment to open a savings account for DD.

AuntieMaggie · 28/08/2014 09:56

Argh. About 2 hours sleep here :( not surprising as he slept most of yesterday but I'm so tired and he's been awake and clingy since 6 so no chance of catching up! I really don't know what to do with him :(

MrsNutella · 28/08/2014 10:07

maggie if you have somewhere you can go for a coffee stick him in a sling or the buggy and go for a walk. I used to find with DS that a bit of fresh air and sunlight did us both the world of good even if I still looked like a zombie Smile

DD is almost 4 kilos Smile. MW just came and weighed her. I'm so happy. I can carry on doing what I'm doing and not worry anymore! Phew. It's horrible when someone makes you feel uncertain about feeding your own baby!!

I can't remember whose baby only gained 1oz but I just wanted to say please try and relax. Stress is not good for milk. Have a big bowl of porridge (or lots of oatmeal cookies Wink) drink some fennel tea and remember that your baby is gaining weight! X

elliejjtiny · 28/08/2014 10:15

size 1 nappies here. He weighs 10lb 11oz but he's quite long. No proper smiles yet at 11 weeks tomorrow either although his mouth twitches sometimes as if he's trying to smile. He's quite sleepy still and only really wakes up for feeds. I keep forgetting what's normal as DS4 is really delayed.

The HV (not mine, she's away) summoned me to the baby clinic yesterday for a chat about PND etc. She asked me what she could do to help and the only thing I could think of is asking for a side room for DS4's next operation. She said she was going to speak to the neurosurgeon personally about it and got really cross on my behalf that we didn't get one before. Oh dear, they're going to think I'm one of those pushy mothers now aren't they? In an ideal world we'd all have side rooms with en suite bathrooms in hospital but it's not always practical.
