Wow, kiwi, not sure I could do a ceilidh yet! :)

I always get a bit of pain for the first bit of a feed (and a very strong thirst)!

Sleep even more disrupted tonight as I seem to have got a stomach bug - woke up with cramps and vomiting an hour after going to bed. Hoping DS doesn't get it too - NHS website says to continue breastfeeding. Feeling pretty sorry for myself!

icklekid · 24/08/2014 13:17

auntie plenty of singing/humming/shhhhing herev- walked to church doing so to get ds to sleep in pushchair not on me worked...until we went in the door and wide awake.

I think what concerns me most is even though I'm getting more sleep (6h straight for 2 nights in a row!!) so less tired still very emotional and struggling with the colic filled crying all eve. Also still in pain with stitches so sat on sofa crying just wanting dh to be a mind reader and make me a cup of tea. ..why doesn't he realise this???!

icklekid · 24/08/2014 13:19

Oh and yes kiwi and its always very thirsty at start of feed

AuntieMaggie · 24/08/2014 15:22

Colic is still hard to deal with though ickle and even after 2 nights sleep you're still running on a deficit and not feeling 100%. And I know what you mean about wanting them to be mind readers!

NancyinCali · 24/08/2014 16:24

Experienced our first earthquake last night. Very minor down here but a 6.0 at the epicentre. Everyone except me slept through it!

Howly · 24/08/2014 17:37

Nancy how exciting, an earthquake, I'm a geologist and would love to experience a eq and visit California, Yellowstone etc... Not had the money to do a trip yet!

It's taken me ages to catch up on the thread and I love reading it, it actually makes me feel so much better to know that you are all in the same boat as Im having a few confidence wobbles thinking im not good enough for my baby! It stems from the breast feeding trouble im having, recovered from mastitis but now have suspected thrush or just a reeeeaaallly sore left nipple! I love breast feeding and am working so hard at it but have introduced 1 or 2 formula feeds a day to give my boobs a rest as the pain is excruciating, it had to be formula as I couldn't express enough for an entire feed and don't have enough time between the constant feeding to pump! I'm just annoyed because I give DD 100ml of formula and she's content and happy for half an hour then asleep for 2 hours! When I feed her breast milk she feeds for over an hour, sleeps for 20 minutes then is awake wanting more, she never seems to fill up - it's so frustrating! I desperately want to get back to 100% bf but I don't know if I'm doing too much damage to my supply and causing her nipple confusion with all these bottles (her latch has become a little lazy and could be the source of my nipple pain!!)

I've been getting out the house for short walks but only if she's had a formula feed and therefore will sleep for the entire trip! If I bf her id get to the end if the road and she would be screaming again! I get so anxious she's going to scream in public and everyone would think in a bad mum!

DD is only 3 weeks old and I have to keep reminding myself of that as she's still got to get used to bf and my supply is still establishing!!

Sorry for the whinging babble of this post but needed to get if iff my chest I think!

AuntieMaggie · 24/08/2014 22:28

howly whinge away... the early weeks are hard when you're breastfeeding. Do you have a breast feeding support worker or something you can contact for some advice/support?

If I don't manage to start expressing a decent amount this week I'm considering putting in a formula feed at night. Loo not that I don't get much when I do express its that I can't do it one handed so need to be able to put DS down for long enough and not need that time to sleep/eat/shower!

I just started reading the "Just accept that you're never going to sleep again!" thread but the OP made me cross so I had to stop as she seems to think getting babies into a routine is easy!

ismarah · 24/08/2014 22:39

We had our NCT catch up this week, which was lovely.

One little girl was born in early June and she's already sleeping through the night-ish. She apparently goes to bed at 7.30 and wakes at 6am. In that time she has one FF at around 11 or so and that's it.

So I guess there's hope!

icklekid · 25/08/2014 04:15

Wow ismarah there must be a secret there somewhere!

Thanks auntie I think I needed to hear that

howly sorry to hear you are struggling - if a ff is working don't feel bad, 1 won't affect your supply and sounds like it helps your sanity/ability to get out of the house!

I have decided want to try and get ds into some kind of routine. Have been tracking feeds but going to start trying to track sleep as well so can see when/how long awake time is and if any pattern. Roughly how long would you leave 6 week old between feeds if asleep? I've been doing 4h but no idea if thats right! Any tips/advice or am I mad to even try?!

ismarah · 25/08/2014 06:39

Ickle

She's FF now after being EBF for the first 10w, and started dropping feeds herself.

This slightly worries me as my bottomless pit bean actually only takes in what she should if FF but does it very slowly, taking in max 100ml at a time. This means that instead of being fed every 4hrs or so, she works on a bottle over an extended period, like 6hrs sometimes. We still do two feeds at night.

The NCT yummy mummy did say about her DD that she spends a relatively lot of time awake during the day...

icklekid · 25/08/2014 08:19

ismarah why is ff so often the answer?!! Oh well. Would love more awake (if happy not crying!) Time during the day especially if added bonus of more sleep in night. Think this is also why I want routine.keep having to remember 6 weeks is still little! Enjoy the bank holiday ladies!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 25/08/2014 13:16

Hi All, sorry for absenteeism, have had a busy few weeks due to the harvest and farmer DH working all hours. Have just managed to keep up with the facebook group. Hope everyone is well and the little ones are thriving and happy. Will have to read through quite a few posts to catch up. Its nice that we are all keeping in touch and helping each other out.

After a relatively easy first 6 weeks with a baby that does not scream our bean has discovered her lungs, sadly literally just after I had told the midwife she does not scream. Although she does not scream often. She is currently also mostly making pig-like snorting noises Hmm. Her hair is still like a mad professors and someone pointed and laughed at her on sarturday at a local fete as they walked past Sad. It would have been less rude if they had stopped and struck up a conversation but it made me all protective of my beautiful baby.

Had a 6 week check up with a very dishy Spanish doctor with heavy accent who Bean would not stop smiling at or take her eyes off for a second Smile. I can now drive again so I am enjoying getting out and about.

Am annoyed at the clothes in Sainsburys. Its 25% off this weekend but all the girls clothes have cats on and/or are pink Hmm. Sort it out Sainsburys!!! My dog mad, bright coloured wearing girl deserves better. On the plus side have ordered dinosaur leggings for winter from JoJo Maman Bebe...Grin

BlueC2 · 25/08/2014 15:58

Just a quick reply as must pop out in a moment but ickle with DS I would set my alarm to wake him for feeds in the night, with DD this doesn't work as she then just doesn't feed and then wakes up v soon after as if that was when she'd decided she would feed- so I'm leaving her to dictate at night now and we've had a couple of 5 hour stretches. In the day I'm trying to stick to roughly 3 hourly ish intervals and using pacifier to stretch her out a bit if needed.

liquid our Sainsbury's has some nice non pink girly stuff incl blue/white stripey top and spotty leggings set for example. Though it is predominantly pink!

ickle I've been trying to track feeds, sleep and what I'm eating but often forget what times ds was awake in the middle of the night. hoping to get some sort of routine established over the next few weeks but tomorrow is vaccine day - eek! As for waking for feeds ds won't feed if he's not hungry clamps his mouth firmly shut or chews my nipple with a screwed up face!

icklekid · 25/08/2014 17:31

Thanks auntie and blue to be honest ds is feeding fine, putting on weight, plenty of nappies, sleeping well at night but also sleeping a lot in the day! Think will just go with it and as long as health visitors happy I won't worry...

ismarah · 25/08/2014 18:11

Snow my bean goes on average 24-36hrs. I did find an app for my phone to keep track of things as one night feed / change very quickly becomes forgotten with all the others. It's been quite helpful actually, it tells me more clearly if there are any trends / routines happening.

5 days does seem like quite a lot though..

ZingOfSeven · 25/08/2014 18:35

hi everyone, just a quick one to say Elijah was baptised yesterday and we had a wonderful day.Smile
I turned 40 on Saturday - it's been a busy weekend, but highly enjoyable.

bit of bad news is that since Friday I have a lot of pain just below my right ribs. I think it's liver related.
my back has been really hurting too, likely to be referred pain.
I was prescribed Omrprazole a month ago after I had a lot of pain in my stomach and surrounding areas as gp suggested it's gastritis. I don't know if it is or not, tablets took almost a week to work and there's no proof they did. I forgot to take a few and was fine. then I remembered to take them again and a few days later the pain started again - it is the same constant dull ache (feels like bruising) as before but very much localised.
I've talked to people and been on the Internet - it could be gastritis, fatty liver, gallstones, gall bladder problem, even hernia.
I'm really worried because I don't know what causes this pain and I feel GP didn't even care to find out.
calling GP back tomorrow as I'm not happy that previously I was just given some tablets on the basis of "let's see if these work and if they do it's gastritis".
And I'm worried because what if it's something serious or needs surgery or whatever...

hope you are all ok. I can't read back, sorry

ZingOfSeven · 25/08/2014 18:35

sorry for long post

icklekid · 25/08/2014 19:51

Oh zing we miss you! Glad you had a good baptism and 40th but so sorry to hear about back and liver pain Sad make sure you see gp and try and get to the bottom of what it is...

Can I join, can I join! I'm a long-time lurker, on this thread and Mumsnet in general but I'd like to start actually engaging more. First time mum. My daughter is seven weeks old. She was born on Sunday, July 6th. Vaginal delivery, just gas and air but begged for an epidural for hours (still pretty bitter about not getting one Angry ). She was 7 pounds, 13 oz. We're exclusively breastfeeding.

I don't really have any friends with babies so feel like I'm feeling my way in the dark most of the time. Hoping this thread will be a bit of a help - or at least entertainment during those 4am feeds Smile

Khaleesi1985 · 25/08/2014 22:22

Oh and does anyone know how to join the Facebook group? I have baby pictures to share!

Fox28 · 26/08/2014 03:53

Welcome Khaleesi! Congratulations on the birth of your DD!

If you send me a message telling me your email address, I can then send you an invite to the Facebook group

Howly · 26/08/2014 05:48

On the 4th feed of the night here and if yesterday was anything to go by 5am was wake up time!! I hope not, I'm so tired!

DD nearly 4 weeks old and still bf constantly during the day, she hardly slept at all yesterday unless you count the 20ish minutes on me between snacking, everytime I tried to put her down she was awake almost immediately! Very frustrating!

Re the bf I've had so much support, 6 midwife visits by 5 different midwives (still not been discharged!!), health visitor, nct lactation consultant and midwifery nurse and if I feel up to it I'm off a bf support group today!! Feel like I know everything now just need to put it into practise which I am doing but DD still snacks instead of filling herself up resulting in one feed blending into the next with no break for me!

Btw I hate this new format for mumsnet talk, it's taken me ages to write this, nearly lost the post 3 times!! Gah!! So angry!
