No I'm in Croydon, markets gone crazy! I've cancelled today's viewing as checked a map and the house had train line on 1 side and sewerage plant on the other!

Angelesque · 07/07/2014 15:08

getting ooh, train noise AND eau de excrement?! Nice!

Are you looking a bit further south into Sussex? I love it down there!

Gettingthroughthis · 07/07/2014 15:44

angel my thoughts exactly! Could probably live with train noise as we live on a busy road now but not sewage! We're being quite flexible on location but we both work in central London so need good transport links

FelixFelix · 07/07/2014 17:11

Had a busy weekend! Friend visited from Manchester and we went out to watch the Tour de France. It was amazing! DP is a huge cycling fan and he was like a kid at Christmas.

Still not near crawling here, but she's very good at rolling around and shuffling in a circle Grin

Bedtime is becoming a nightmare. She's still waking up constantly through the night. On Saturday she woke up every hour until 2 and then every 20 minutes until 6am. But then yesterday she only woke up twice. It's very random and there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. She naps well through the day but she's so hard to get to sleep at night. We have a good bedtime routine but it often takes 45 mins just to get her to sleep in her cot. I've noticed we are starting to fall in to the trap of having a feed to go to sleep, which isn't good. I have no idea what else to do though, and it gets to the point where I'll do anything to get her off to sleep. Any tips appreciated!

Weepants143 · 08/07/2014 09:17

Hey all.... I'm rather late to the party but having just stumbled upon this thread I wondered if I could join in :) Baby H was born on January 19th and is growing up so quickly it's scaring me!! He isn't quite crawling but doing a great job of sticking his bum in the air and shuffling along... Keep finding him at the wrong end of his cot in the morning! Have yet to start weaning him but hoping to try him with something this week! Has anyone got any tips of what might be good to start him on? Xx

alteredimages · 08/07/2014 09:54

Hi weepants!

We are having the same thing exactly. It is amazing how mobile they are even before they can crawl.

N was born December 31st so just a couple of weeks ahead of you but I haven't been very organised on the weaning front. So far he has tried carrots, broccoli, avocado, oranges, banana and yoghurt and has sucked on some chicken. Predictably, he spits out all the vegetables. Am going to try him on some porridge today. Sweet potato is really good for weaning as is butternut squash.

FelixFelix · 08/07/2014 10:38

Welcome weepants Smile

I started Sylvie on puréed apple, carrot and butternut squash. The first few times I mixed them with a bit of her milk so it wasn't such a shock to the system. But that's probably me just being a bit over cautious Grin

Naturegirl82 · 08/07/2014 12:40

hi weepants

We've not started weaning so no advice here I'm afraid.

Are people only introducing a new food every three days to check for allergies? I thought I'd read that somewhere but not sure if I'm making it up!!

Angelesque · 08/07/2014 13:03

We're introducing two foods a week (although this is only week three Grin - did baby rice week one, sweet potato and carrot week two, and am adding pear and potato this week. Doing it slowly a) to check for allergies and b) not to overwhelm him (how PFB of me)

Went with savoury purées first as read that if you start with fruit they won't tolerate veg!! F is only five months though so we're taking it slowly. Loving whizzing up purées, but sure the novelty will fade soon...

FelixFelix · 08/07/2014 13:05

I didn't know about introducing gradually. I've just been giving Sylvie whatever we have got for tea that night Grin

Weepants143 · 08/07/2014 15:10

Thanks for all the replies :) I think I'll start on some baby rice this week and get myself stocked up on veggies (and a mini blender) to start the purees next week! I didn't know that about the allergies thing so thanks angel and nature. felix giving him whatever we have is the stage I'm aiming for! I am determined not to have a fussy eater... How realistic that is, I'm sure I'll find out!!

I'm somewhat in shock that we are at the weaning stage already... 6 months sounds very grown up......

FelixFelix · 08/07/2014 15:31

Wee I just use a sainsburys basics stick blender (it was about £6) and I bought some big ice cube trays with a lid from amazon. If you search on amazon they are about £2 with a silicon lid and the cubes are quite big. So much cheaper than the official baby food pots you can buy.

Last night she had chunks of roasted butternut squash and it was very messy but she enjoyed feeding herself! Smile

TobyLerone · 08/07/2014 15:41

Hi weepants :)

We're doing (mostly) BLW, so Meredith is just having whatever we have, either to feed herself with or chopped up to spoon-feed her if it's not something she can hold easily (like last night's lasagne, or the other night's sausage/mash/beans). She has porridge or toast for breakfast, with fruit. Strawberries, kiwi and blueberries are favourites. Breadsticks and houmous, slices of cheese, cucumber etc for lunch. She likes baby corn, broccoli, sweet potato wedges, boiled carrot sticks. Tomorrow we might have pasta and pesto.

I haven't been trying new things separately. We've only been weaning for a couple of weeks she's 6 months old today and I'm yet to find something she doesn't like.

FelixFelix · 08/07/2014 15:56

Toby is she having breakfast, dinner and tea now? I spoke to the HV when I went to get Sylvie weighed today and mentioned about her still waking up a lot through the night for feeds and she told me to start giving her dinner as well as breakfast and tea.

She tried pasta and pesto the other day and loved it! Going to buy breadsticks and humous tonight now you've mentioned it. Is it just normal crunchy breadsticks or literally pieces of bread? Sorry, stupid question Blush

Naturegirl82 · 08/07/2014 16:59

felix I like your questions saves me having to ask them in a few weeks. Grin

So O has definitely sussed this crawling now. she is whizzing around the room, much to the dogs displeasure as O keeps chasing her! haha

TobyLerone · 08/07/2014 21:35

Normal crunchy breadsticks. I get the small ones because they're easy for her to hold, but they don't have to be small ones. And they're not special baby ones.

Basically I just give her something whenever we're eating. She doesn't eat much at any meal but it keeps her occupied and involved. She has never slept through the night!

FelixFelix · 09/07/2014 11:54

Toast went down very well this morning! Bought breadsticks and humous for lunch today.

Toby what times do you do breakfast, dinner and tea? Sorry for all the questions Grin

TobyLerone · 09/07/2014 13:07

It's ok! Ask away, but I'm not the expert :o

We have breakfast around 8/8.30 on weekdays. We take DH to the station and then come back for breakfast. This morning was cinnamon and raisin toast (courtesy of my friend who came to lunch yesterday and always brings me homemade bread) with strawberries and nectarine.

Lunch is about now. She's asleep on me and I'm starving!!

We have dinner about 6.45pm. I wish it could be earlier but we don't pick DH up from the station til 6.20pm. I usually try to have dinner ready before I pick him up so that we don't have to wait too long.

Hope she likes the breadsticks and houmous, felix!

FelixFelix · 09/07/2014 13:35

She LOVED the humous!!! It was so messy though and I'm sure she's got chickpea mush in the folds of her neck that I can't get to Grin Need to buy a proper high chair (the one we had was too huge and now lives at MIL's house) as the bumbo and tray isn't very practical for feeding any more.

Your timings sound good. I've been speaking to one of the ladies from my NCT class who has recently used a sleep trainer woman (crazy but it worked!) and asked about timings for naps etc as she's becoming a nightmare to get to sleep. So new routine is up at 7am, breakfast at 8ish, 40 minute nap at 9, dinner at 12, nap at 12.30 or 1 (supposedly for 2 hours. I won't hold my breath), tea at 6 then bed at 7.

I think its a bit ambitious and I will probably never leave the house again, but it's worth a try...

FelixFelix · 09/07/2014 13:57

Well she slept 30 minutes, not 2 hours Grin

Swannykazoo · 09/07/2014 17:15

Hi felix -if its any consolation our daytime sleep has gone a bit rubbish - naps only seem to be 45mins or less rather than the lovely 1hr and a bit. It takes for ever for little puggle to fall asleep in the sling now but falling asleep stationary isn't really a skill we have either. I'm assuming it just one of those things... that too shall pass....

OP posts:
Weepants143 · 09/07/2014 20:21

Felix I may have to adopt that routine, well try to. Baby H doesn't like sleeping at all during the day and I keep wanting to try and get him into a strict routine, but it's so soul destroying spending 45 mins trying to get him to sleep, then when he is finally down, he wakes 15 mins later. I never managed to stick to it... It was stressing me out but think I'm ready to try again :) can I ask, does everyones little ones fall asleep themselves? I am still having to rock and sing and shush and pat and anything else that may work.....

TobyLerone · 09/07/2014 20:44

DH is currently rocking Meredith in an attempt to get her to sleep. I've been trying since 8pm and I gave up about 10 minutes ago because I am tired and grumpy and feeling particularly put-upon and unappreciated today and I'm finding it hard to sympathise with a baby who is simultaneously screaming in my face and clawing at my skin.

FelixFelix · 09/07/2014 20:45

Today's routine seems to have worked! She's been taking around 30-40 minutes to get to sleep at night for the past few weeks, and tonight she fell asleep before DP even managed to read her a bedtime story!

Today went: awake at 8, breakfast at 9, nap for 40 minutes at 10, dinner at 12, nap for 30 minutes at 1, nap for 40 minutes at 3, asleep for 7.15.

Hopefully it's not just a fluke Grin

FelixFelix · 09/07/2014 20:48

Toby I know the feeling. I can't put her to bed any more as I get so stressed so DP has to do it now. Winex 1000000!

Wee, Sylvie has a dummy and has to hold a muslin square over her face to go to sleep. Then I pat her (that just autocorrected to pay her. If only it was that easy Grin) and she drifts off eventually. Weirdly she falls asleep very easily downstairs in her chair thing but not very easily in her cot.
