Where are you roughly?

I've started christmas shopping at last. Just some first puzzles. I'm waiting for some Duplo sets to be reduced on Amazon and we have a scooter put by for 2nd birthday present.

Dan's latest aquisition is 'E-I-E-I-O' and 'doggy woof woof' (or Gogn-wu-wu which is what it sounds like) and lots and lots of choo-choo woo-woo whenever he sees a train.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 23/09/2014 09:32

If only I could use the same trick with his car seat!

Jun I'm in Wiltshire. During the summer months we often go away for weekends as DH competes with DDog1 at agility, so maybe I'll find my way to a meetup some day!

I have a spreadsheet for Christmas presents for DS. It's quite comprehensive Grin.

JuniperTisane · 23/09/2014 10:07

I do apportion present ideas to different relatives to make sure they get a good mix of stuff. Didn't work very well last year as everyone said they were thinking of one thing then got a load of nasty tat something totally different which pissed me off no end.

What are you thinking of this year?

LetThereBeCupcakes · 23/09/2014 10:19

I'm trying to make sure he gets stuff to see him through the year, so the current list stands at:

Toot Toot Drivers
Brio
Duplo
Jigsaws
Melissa & Doug Latches Board
Playmobil 123 Truck with Garage
Learn to Dress toy
Happyland something - probably the plant

I have a very detailed list but these are the main bits. I've also bought a Hungry Caterpillar Photo Album which I'm filling with photos of his favourite things.

JuniperTisane · 23/09/2014 10:27

Just put the latches board on Dans wishlist.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 23/09/2014 10:58

Jun I have a much longer, more detailed list if you're looking for ideas. Let me know if you want me to PM it.

JuniperTisane · 23/09/2014 11:08

Grin Why not? I'm always up for inspiration. Especially being 2nd child so lots of stuff is already waiting for him.

AppleCrumples · 27/09/2014 22:06

cupcakes will try that trick next time she kicks off :) The irony is that I keep finding her in the dining room sitting in the pushchair!

juniper ivy has mostly hand me downs Blush I have got her some puzzles as I have been doing thosetoddler puzzles for a decade now

Ds1 has been teaching her to say 'creeper go boom' (a minecraft reference for those without any 10 year olds to bore them with it). Pretty cute.

Looked at secondary schools last week, they are all huge and scary but thankfully we are in catchment for a really good one and not far from another decent one so hopefully not too much angst. Roll on next march though.

Hope everyone ok but quiet here x

OohQuack · 28/09/2014 00:09

Dexter nearly toppled backwards with his planking and pushchair the other day, hes clearly too big for it, so just a warning ladies. Im getting my mums bigger one wednesday.

Other news nct sale today, i think a lot of my bits went but we bought £100 worth back so profit and spend margin will be non existant.

Are you little guys showing more signs of intelligence and comprehension recently? Dexters started signing more and hugging me when he realises hes upset me etc. Hes also becoming a nightmare to get him to nap.

That latchboard is going on our list! Not got much yet just an rc car, some 'peoples' a new kate. And mim mim dvd (he adores that programme, because of the spinning and chucking in the air)
I was thinking of some fish, he gets so excited at the pets at home place

cupcakes I'm definitely trying that buggy trick next time! Any ideas for how to get the stiff baby into the car seat as well?! I had a right battle after a Tesco trip this morning, I had to press her in her tummy to get her to bend!

salt it's good to hear from you, I really hope the move goes ok xx

tugs I don't think that's too early to feel flutters either. So exciting! I would love another one but I'm scared of the end bit now after a not such a nice experience last time so not sure I'm brave enough anymore :(

Ooh pressies! I'm thinking of the Melissa & Doug doorbell house as X likes real keys. And some sort of interactive doll. And a wooden trike without pedals (don't know where to get one from though). She quite likes those cosy coupe cars but prob not as much as trikes where she can push along with her legs and be a bit higher up. But if anyone wants a coupe, they are quite cheap in toysrus at the mo with a £5 off voucher code too. We don't have the latches board but she does like a very similar one (same make) with magnetic animals behind the doors which she likes.

oohquack yes definitely on the understanding side of things. I can give her lots of instructions, even to go and get a certain colour cup or something, and she will do it. But I'm a bit worried about her words. She does say a few things but she hasn't really said any new words for ages. HV thinks maybe it's her ears. How is everyone else's LO on actual words? Apparently they should have at least 50 different words by the age of 2 (3 months away!) but I'd say she only has half that at the mo.

Birdies · 29/09/2014 14:41

A lot of those words are just 'bah' for several different things as well!

JuniperTisane · 29/09/2014 14:44

Birdies DS1 had very very few at this point. Certainly less than a dozen, and half of those were animal noises. He's just 4 and doesn't shut up now. He has had some speech and language 1:1 sessions which I self-referred for at 2 because we seemed to be not getting anything much from him. They were happy that he gestured and pointed and showed me things, it was just that language itself was the last thing to develop for him. We had a hearing test to rule out glue ear too, his was fine.

Dan's been listening to Stick Man on the iPod rather a lot and now when he wants it he stomps round shouting 'Mick Mah! Mick Mah!' at me over and over Grin

JuniperTisane · 29/09/2014 14:51

In fact I've just dug out the list I had from just after his 2nd birthday:

doggy (oggee), cat (aatt), dad (dada), mum (mummmmaa), Nan (nanan), birdies (dis), Cakey (kekey), Tractor (dadar), Boobie (doodie), Car (ar)

10 words. Plus moo, baa, woof, neigh.

14 sounds overall.

Birdies · 29/09/2014 16:53

Brill thanks juniper that makes me feel better :) She points to things and loves attention so it is just the words for her too.

JuniperTisane · 29/09/2014 17:34

Round here we can self refer for a speech & language assessment via the HV between 18 and 26 months. Its just a half-hour play session with a SL assistant who makes notes of how the child plays, interactions with parent etc. At the end they say whether they would benefit from some sessions or not, and if so, refer it up to the Therapists for an appointment (which is months away). They give lots of advice too.

Honestly though, if she has around 25 words and points, gestures, makes sounds etc I doubt you have anything to worry about.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 29/09/2014 20:22

Just done a quick count - think DS has 22 words, plus 2 animal sounds (bukka bukka for chicken and Ooo Ooo for Monkey). He also asks for 3 songs with a specific word from the song, but doesn't know what those words mean (eg he says "pull" when he wants Wind The Bobbin Up but I'm sure he doesn't actually know what Pull means). He also says Mama and Dada but doesn't know what they mean really.

Birdies I had an OK birth with DS (we'll gloss over the blue-lights-to-city-hospital thing), but as much as I'd like another child I'm terrified by the thought of another baby! I do realise there's a problem there Grin

LetThereBeCupcakes · 29/09/2014 20:29

Also meant to say he had a massive leap with his speech last week and suddenly came out with about half of those words then. It all seems to go in fits and starts with him!

JuniperTisane · 29/09/2014 21:04

I find tickling under the arms is helpful to combat tantrum-stiff body and/or blowing on his bellybutton. He can't help giggling and relaxing usually.

Angielka · 29/09/2014 22:04

Hello everyone! Mad busy our way but still catch up on the thread when I can-always lovely to catch up. Also lovely to know we're not the only ones dealing with an impossible toddler a developmental leap... Epic tantrums and a very strong sense of what she wants and doesn't want. DD1 4 today and visited a two week old at the weekend. Is that me feeling broody? Nah, can't be...Shock

Birdies · 30/09/2014 18:14

Hi angiel!

Bizarrely I'm now noticing some more words since worrying about it. It's this that wound me up and made me wonder (I did a google search for how many words a 21 month old should be able to say). I actually find it quite funny now. "My son knows soooooooooo many words". Yuk!! I'm wondering if this is the "norm" she says. Bollocks, she just wants to show off! Then she lists them all out as well. Is that what they would call a stealth boast on mn?! Or am I just jealous?!!

www.netmums.com/coffeehouse/children-parenting-190/toddlers-pre-schoolers-12-months-4-years-59/623434-how-many-words-can-your-21month-old-say-all.html

LetThereBeCupcakes · 30/09/2014 18:52

'my DS doesn't say many words because he is bilingual' Hmm Grin

This is why I'm here, and not on netmums.

Angielka · 30/09/2014 22:21

Wow! I've never really looked at net mums before.is it all like that??? Confused

Angielka · 30/09/2014 22:23

(Hi birdies! Grin) ignore them. There is no normal and Molly mostly spends her time saying naaaaah and trying to convince me cows say baaaah so I wouldn't worry Wink

Blink1982 · 30/09/2014 23:27

Ugh i just wanted to jab her in the eye through my phone reading her posts, i wouldnt even call it stealth boasting, just out n loud boasting :-D dexters just started saying a new sound (not word, he has about 4 words not 156) i cant figure what it is, it may be "doing" cos we are always saying "ooh what is it/he/she/dexter doing" but it sounds like 'ooee' i just smile amd nod, god knows what hes whittering on about bless'im

Blink1982 · 30/09/2014 23:28

Soz its lora, had a mc cos dp rudely joined mn and had a conversation with me on a thread, the bastard thought it was hilarious wjen i complimented the nametag...
