Does anyone get a water birth or are they a myth made up to reassure pregnant women? Grin

OohQuack · 13/08/2014 22:21

Mrs bug, you were denied it because your waters broke? I agree they must be a myth. My waters broke at 4 they let me have a crap bath but no waterbirth because I was a fatty. So even if I wasn't a fatty I wouldn't of got one anyway? How rude!

I had a waterbirth. I was at home though so nobody could stop me really Grin. I was already in the pool when the midwife arrived so a bit late to say anything much. Instant difference in how I perceived the pain though, it sort of muffled it.

No real idea what caused the reaction, it started at the rugby club on the saturday morning, within an hour his face was puffy and a bit rashy. We assumed hayfever and dosed him with piriton when we got home, was ok that day but the next morning his face, neck and arms were covered. We assumed something infectious at that point, saw the gp and he promptly shipped us off to the childrens ward where he was admitted for two nights and given some mighty big steroids. He's still on industrial quantities of antihistamine as he's still very itchy but its getting better.

MsBug · 14/08/2014 07:11

That sounds scary juniper do you know what he ate that morning?

Re. Water birth I was told no baths after my waters broke but they went at the very start of labour and they were worried about infection, there were over 50 hours between them breaking and dd being born and normally they only allow 24 hours maximum.

JuniperTisane · 14/08/2014 08:06

Ah. My waters broke late morning, I felt it was going to happen that day so we had already started the water running for the pool. Was in it less than an hour from my waters breaking.

It doesn't correspond to anything he ate particularly, usual breakfast would have either been cereal or toast, same as normal. I think its something he came into contact with at the rugby club as thats where it started. Part of what made it so bad was his body going nuts with the immune response and fighting itself Confused. It drew his (usually very mild) eczema out and everything just compounded on itself.

I think some generic allergy testing is on the cards but it won't happen fast unless we pay for it. NHS is crap in this area. Also my local nhs trust has been deemed inadequate by the inspectors and is going into special measures Smile so thats good isn't it? SmileHmm.

Off to the aquarium this morning.

MsBug · 14/08/2014 12:56

That sounds awful juniper. I get random skin reactions from thins like biological washing powder and febreze (sp?) fabric freshener. There are so many things it could be.

if i have another baby, and go to term, i would love to have a home waterbirth next time. If i have another premature labour i would have to do the same as before ie. Throw myself at the mercy of medical professionals and do more or less whatever they advise Sad

have fun at the aquarium. We have been a few times and dd calls sharks der-ders because i always hum the tune from jaws at her when we see them.

glorious · 14/08/2014 14:11

I'm on the way to my parents' now, mum's appointment is at 3 so we won't know until after that. Thanks for the good wishes.

juniper that sounds scary Sad How is he now? Had he been to the rugby club before?

I didn't get a waterbirth either. Ironically I was in the pool until my waters went and they were full of meconium. They midwife suggested I got out in case DD needed any help straight after birth. To be fair they basically went in transition so I was quite out of it but I did then push for 2 hours. Out of the 55 hours of proper contractions I only spent about 7 hours in the pool but they were much better than the rest!

JuniperTisane · 14/08/2014 21:13

Danny likes tractors. He can say Tractor! very clearly and loudly.

You know that nursery rhyme:

Zoom, zoom, zoom, we're going to the moon
Zoom, zoom, zoom, we'll be there very soon
5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1
Blast Off!

Dan has started copying when we do the countdown but he can't say blast off. He goes 'Igh! Or! Eee! Tu! Uh! TRACTOR!'

Grin
OohQuack · 14/08/2014 23:26

I love the 'words' this age is my absolute fave.

Dexter can say hat, he also joins in "one two three's with on doo weeeeee :-D and I brim with pride when he does all the actions for the nursery rhymes.

Bugs was it you who does tiny talk aswell? I'm not sure about taking him to the next term, it'll be toddler sessions. I feel like the woman is relying on me going cos most of her others have left for school now, butt's a fiver a go and itfeels like a rip off compared to other things we go to

juniper sounds scary hope ds1 better now and you can find out what caused it.

glorious hope yesterday went ok

tugs exciting.

Ivy is all chatter at the mo but not masses of words. We have 'beeeby' for baby and iggle piggle. Took them all to rhyme time last week, dd1 joined in while Ivy gave the boys the run around! Shes ruling the roost a bit andhas both boys wrapped round her little finger. Its nice as they can do more together now shes older. Dd1still a bit jealous

Hope everyone else ok

AppleCrumples · 15/08/2014 09:12

Ffs I changed my name on that! ^^

MsBug · 15/08/2014 11:20

Glorious hope it went ok yesterday.

quack we go to sing and sign. It's been great but dd is singing less now and using more words so i think we're coming to the end of its usefulness. However i decided to sign dd up for the next term as it will be her last term and she really enjoys it, she has lots of little friends there. If it wasn't for that i would probably stop doing it.

i LOVE 'tractor' for blast off, so cute.

we have 'by-by' for spider and 'tat' for cat. We also have little sentences such as 'more by-by' when dd makes me go on spider hunts around the garden...

Angielka · 15/08/2014 18:56

Glorious hope yesterday was ok.

Love tractor for blast off Grin and totally agree about lovely age for words but seriously worst age for tantrums. Argh! On holiday and so stressful with Molly- she runs, no buggy unless bribed with food and rarely holds a hand. Chases dogs, screams if you pick her up to cross a road, gets an idea and will. Not. Change. Her. Mind. I can't wait for when a few extra words come along and stop the high frustration levels. She does give her big sis the sweetest cuddles though and has started telling us before she does a poo. Totally thrown by that as DD1 never showed any interest in toilet matters until much later.

Wedding anniversary today and MIL babysitting. YES! Grin

JuniperTisane · 15/08/2014 19:30

Excellent Angielka have fun!

lollibop tomorrow...

OohQuack · 15/08/2014 23:59

Id love to be nearer to try lollibop, instead we are going to do some spending at the rspca carvoot, which i believe will be just as much fun :-D

Aw love the words and songs so much.

We have "'pider" too and the oven is "'ot!"

Tractors are "trucks" which he pronounces "Cuck!", lots of things also sound like "cock" including "cat".Blush

His favourite things are still "doggies" and "birdies", but today he said "seesaw" and I realised he meant "horses", he somehow seems to have reversed it Confused

OohQuack · 16/08/2014 22:49

Feeling sad for him this weekend. Mums foster boy (3) leaves tohis adoptive house monday, hes dexters best mate they love each other loads and i doubt we'll be able to see him again :(

OP posts:
MsBug · 17/08/2014 07:29

Poor Dexter!

your mum must be an amazing person, i am in awe of people who foster.

lollipoppi · 17/08/2014 11:41

Poor dexter, hope you and your family are ok too, it must be so hard to see him go Hmm

Got a panic call from DS1 nursery on Thursday, he had a massive asthma attack and was blue lighted to hospitalHmm luckily I work just near the hospital and arrived just as the ambulance was pulling in, it was the worse attack he has had, 2 nights In hospital, shit loads of steroids, oxygen and nebulisers and he is back to his normal self now, I think I've got a few grey hairs though!!

AppleCrumples · 17/08/2014 12:57

oh lolli that must have been terrifying. hope hes ok now Flowers

quack poorDexter. That must be hard all round x

JuniperTisane · 17/08/2014 15:06

Poor ds1 lolli asthma attacks are scary.

lollipoppi · 18/08/2014 18:03

It was horrible, he has lots of attacks before, and hospital admissions, but this was there worse ive seen by far, poor little man Hmm

OhhQuack how did Monday go? Thinking of you all Thanks

AppleCrumples · 18/08/2014 23:17

Arrghh my eyes! Just clicked on here in threads I'm on and was redirected to porn!!!

Ahem

lolli my dsis was severely asthmatic as a child its only since having dc that I can really understand how hard it must have been for my parents. She has mostly grown out of it thankfully

LetThereBeCupcakes · 19/08/2014 20:48

Lolli Hope he's feeling better now.

DS has learned "no", but only when HE says it to ME. If I say it to him he seems completely oblivious Hmm. We also have "SHUT! SHUT!" for when a door is opened, and DS feels it should IMMEDIATELY be shut.

DNephew jumped ship a week early - apparently he couldn't hack living in the "real" world - he didn't leave without a parting shot at the state of my windows though. Angry

I bought DS' first Christmas present at the weekend - a Hungry Caterpillar Photo album which I will fill before giving to him. Only £3.99 in the Works.

MsBug · 19/08/2014 22:33

Christmas Shock

I made a photo album for dd with pictures of the family as they mostly live a long way away and don't get to see them that often - it is great because when I Skype my parents now she calls them 'mamar' (grandma) and 'nanad' (granddad), they love it!
