I won't be able to get those ingredients (the frozen stuff). What do they contain? Fish pie mix doesn't exist here.

And for the potato topping. Would normal home made mash be ok?

I have a major problem with UK recipes. Can't get half the ingredients.

PurplePidjin · 28/05/2014 22:33

It's just fish - usually salmon, smoked haddock and cod or something like that, to a weight of 500g or so. Normal mash is best, this is my go-to cba recipe that's easy so has lots of corners to cut :o You can also do it by making a proper bechemal sauce, but my way is LOTS easier!

YellowWellies · 28/05/2014 22:51

Anyone TTC Cantonese pals into feng shui have just told me that next month is super powered for getting knocked up. Especially if you DTD in the north or south-western corners of your house. Probably utter tosh but meh a bit of an indoor sex safari would certainly make things more fun in the TTC stakes eh? A change is as good as a rest eh?

Anyone looking to do a fish pie that's dairy free - I can recommend Hugh Fearnley Whatsits recipe (just use shellfish stock cubes which we got from our local Caribbean food shop, rather than boiling prawn skeletons to make your own stock) with koko milk. And he's a no cheese on his fish pie purist. Very yum and it tastes really creamy as if it's got dairy in.

PetiteRaleuse · 28/05/2014 23:00

Your supermarkets make life so much easier...

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 07:37

Morning all.

Forgot to mention yesterday there are several cases of the pox in DD1's group at nursery. Time to see if the jab has worked.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 08:24

Why is the idea of making shellfish stock with prawn skeletons so much grosser to me than the idea of making stock with chicken and cow bones?

BigPigLittlePig · 29/05/2014 09:00

Morning folks.

Stunt I would be beyond livid, as you rightly are. I hope J has not reacted too badly, although suspect he may have done? Here, share my Brew.

Oh no to bashed up oven, kyz, so disappointing. Roll on Monday! A fave dinner here is sausage casserole - 1 packet sausages chopped up in a big pan, with a tin of baked beans, tin of chopped tomatoes, half a cup of red lentils, cup of water, black pepper, and sprinkling of thyme. Cook it all up for an hour on a low heat and serve it with yummy bread. F wolfs it down.

Pidj I'm glad you had a better evening in the end than you anticipated. Hope the wine/chocolate combo went down a treat.

PR I am expecting daily foody updates whilst your guests are with you, you and sophia have the best menu plans. Fc the pox vaccine does its job.

Talking of pox Confused... I bumped into a mum friend in the carpark at nursery and was chatting. Her dd (in Fs group) has just gone back today after the pox, she didn't realise until the spots popped out that she had it, so was in nursery the whole time, bar a few spotty days. Am torn between wanting to get he pox out the way, and not wanting it at all. mind you, am on nights next week so dh would have to deal with things Grin

BigPigLittlePig · 29/05/2014 09:02

PR possibly because we don't talk about boiling up a cow skeleton. Which would be gross not to mention tricky. Prawn bones sound any better?

Pikz · 29/05/2014 09:04

Stunt how are you?

I second pig on needing updates on meals Pr.

Matchsticks needed here, up at 4.50am for the day. This is off the back of being sent home from nursery puking yesterday. Teeth is seems.

Elizadoesdolittle · 29/05/2014 09:28

Ouch - .

My friend is due to arrive in half an hour. None of us are dressed and I still need to hoover and tidy the kitchen. Luckily she knows me well so doesn't matter too much but I should at least get dressed for the occasion. Better get a wiggle on and hope that she's late.

BigPigLittlePig · 29/05/2014 09:33

Yesterday I didn't get dressed until 3.50. It was great

Pikz · 29/05/2014 09:35

I'm not dressed yet. The builders just made comments on that fact.

Wandathewindfairy · 29/05/2014 09:53

Ooooo lots to say. Took me ages to Catch up, the scroll on safari is a bit delayed today, don't know why.

So yesterday was my last day in the office. I had a really good meeting all morning, loads of chat and disagreements and actions. It was great. Then in no time at all I had to leave for my flight home.

Today I feel sad. They have bought me a voucher for a cookery school which I am so excited about, but makes me feel emotional because they did that. Maybe am a bit tired. I have got quite a bit of work to do deciphering what we did yesterday and making sure I clear my computer down and at the mo I don't feel motivated.

So my big project for the summer is to get DS1 starting to read. He wants to and he loves books, he goes through them making stories up from the pictures. He can recognise his first group of phonics and a couple of words but I really want to go for it. So any hints and tips gratefully received. I had no trouble with the girls but they were in nursery full time and so got lots and lots of support there, I just had to read with them at home. So this will be the first time I have done it all on my own.

Wandathewindfairy · 29/05/2014 09:58

You are allowed random pj days bpwith the hours you keep!!

I feel like that today in only wasn't wearing any pyjamas so had to get dressed Wink

How was last night stunt?

And yes pr let's have the menu planner! I have Americans coming over in a few weeks for three days so will need to get my menu planning head back on. And actually I have a couple of girls coming over for dinner next week so could do with an idea for that.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 10:11

Forgot to get parmesan dammit. And it's a public holiday so can't get any more.

So risotto will have to be another day and I can go to the farm and get some fresh asparagus.

So. Lunch. Salmon baked with stem ginger syrup served with asparagus and a side salad of greens, tomato and avocado.

Dinner will be roast chick with all the trimmings.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 10:16

Tomorrow lunch if they are here leftover salmon cold in a salad.

Tomorrow evening roast lamb in a herby tomato whatsit. It's a bbc recipe.

Pikz · 29/05/2014 10:26

Drooling!!!

Eliza hope your friends were late!

Sophia that's a lovely thing for them to get you

Just had 4 inches of hair cut off!

StuntNun · 29/05/2014 10:31

After all my shouty rantyness yesterday J isn't actually too bad. There was rather a lot of farting and he's a bit unsettled but not as bad as expected. Maybe there isn't an awful lot of MILK in spring onion crisps Shock wonders why there's any at all. Hopefully tonight won't be too bad either.

I went to the GP today and got an AD prescription and a referral for counselling. He was concerned about the children and is going to speak to the HV so I don't know whether it's going to go any further.

My cat is still missing, that's two nights now so I'm going to put up posters today. I keep looking out or opening the door expecting her to come running up and demand food so it's very dispiriting. A number of cats have mysteriously disappeared round here in the past year so it's possible we won't see her again. The dog is off at the vets for an operation today as well so the house seems very empty without the pets.

BigPigLittlePig · 29/05/2014 11:04

((hugs)) Stunt. I hope the ADs begin to make a difference, and that the HV might be able to offer some support. Also hope StuntCat and StuntDog are ok, if it's anything like in our house, you curse them daily when they're here, but miss them terribly when they are not.

Am so sleepy and yet cannot sleep. Thought a quick catnap might allow me to focus on revision but can't nod off. You can bet your bottom dollar that in 5 minutes time when I'm trying to read about kidney disease, matchsticks will be needed.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 12:00

I hope she turns up stunt :(

StuntNun · 29/05/2014 12:14

I was going to say the cat would be irreplaceable but I've found a breeder way down South that has kittens available. Only 600 euro Confused

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 12:34

Bloody guests running late. Am starving.

persepolis123 · 29/05/2014 16:58

All this talk of food is making me hungry.

stunt I hope the ADs start to work. I’m sure the HV referral is purely to get some extra support for you. Did they say when you might hear from them?

Thanks for the recipe pidj. I have some fish mix in my freezer so will give it a whirl.

That’s interesting yw. No idea where the north or south-western corners of our house are but we could have fun trying to figure it out. I’m currently on the two week wait and af is due fri/sat. I would like to say I feel different only it’s probably wishful thinking and nothing more. Should have some cheapy ebay tests waiting for me when I get home. Good luck to anyone else ttc too.

We are home from Istanbul. Back to work already. A fabulous time was had by all and C grew quite attached to DP’s family by the end of our time there. Horrible when we had to leave though. Everybody cried, C included so we now have to save and go again as soon as we can. Hopefully next summer but that might be a bit of a push so we have said we will aim for every two years. We have some amazing photos and I’m in the process of sorting through the best ones to put in C’s room.

PetiteRaleuse · 29/05/2014 18:26

Glad you had a good trip :)

Zamboni · 29/05/2014 20:25

Glad you finally got to see the ILs perse. Grin
