Wandathewindfairy · 18/05/2014 21:07

Oh wow we have loads of that. Brill.

Passmethecrisps · 18/05/2014 21:13

It gets into their little breathy holes so they don't like it. If is also a bit spiky on their soft tummies

ValiumQueen · 18/05/2014 21:29

Do you not just salt the fuckers?

ValiumQueen · 18/05/2014 21:30

Or get the magnifying glass out? Or bury them alive? Or suck on one so mummy finds baby VQ with only half a slug?

PetiteRaleuse · 18/05/2014 21:34

Salting them makes a horrible mess though.

flouncymcflouncerson · 18/05/2014 21:34

We leave on Wednesday pr.... Though it's weird to see you still call me izzy!

Passmethecrisps · 18/05/2014 21:41

I once salted one and sobbed over it's little writhing body. I had a dilemma over whether to douse it in water but reckoned it would only prolong the dissolvey agony. I was about 8.

The benefit of ashes over salt is that ashes keeps them away completely, salt only kills them once they have started the nomming

PurplePidjin · 18/05/2014 21:45

I like the ashes tip! I've got a small snail problem, but my pots are accessible not only to R but to the neighbours' kids too so I'm reluctant to use slug pellets on my veg. I bought watermelon seeds today in Lidl, am I being over-ambitious?

Changing the subject completely: Eating. R eats like a horse. He likes big lumps - burger, chips, roasties, sausages, clementine segments, toast, fish fingers etc and eats his banana from the skin like a grown up! - and fork mashed stuff. I gave him mince and veg yesterday and he spat it out. Gave him exactly the same today but mixed with sweet potato and he scarfed the lot (he had it last week with regular mash so I know he likes the taste). He's also not keen on using a spoon - will do a couple of mouthfuls then either squeak till I do it or just get in with his hands. Same with a fork - he'll spear it nicely, but generally then takes the food off to put in his mouth even though he's capable of spearing/scooping and getting it in properly. Is this something that'll come with time, or should I be strongly encouraging him to use cutlery? I think he's still in this seemingly-endless growth spurt so I don't want to get too heavy because I think he still needs all the food... Should I be concerned? I offer lots of textures and he rarely gets puree other than fromage frays/yoghurt/fruit puree for pudding, so after a meal if ha! when he's still hungry

PurplePidjin · 18/05/2014 21:46

Slugs+beer=fun Wink

Wandathewindfairy · 18/05/2014 22:00

pp the texture of mince can be a bit grainy for kids sometimes till they are quite old. I would pulse bolognaise sauce for the girls until they were about5 and 7, not smooth but just to make it more saucy than mincey. The boys seem to be ok with it, but I know the girls weren't unusual.

O uses an fork and a spoon and on so e occasions puts them both in his mouth at the same time

PurplePidjin · 18/05/2014 22:14

Ah, ok. He doesn't mind it as long as it's quite saucy/potatoey iyswim. And he only really sees me eating so might be "behind" yours in using cutlery because he doesn't have so much of an example set him? We eat breakfast and lunch together but fuck off it I'm having dinner at 4:15 Hmm

StuntNun · 19/05/2014 07:08

Another terrible night here. Sad We were both screaming at 5 a.m.

Hey everyone. I'm loving the gardening talk. In the process of creating raised beds and I have loads of things growing in pots at the mo. thanks for the slug tips. Anyone have any for white fly. They destroyed most of my courgettes last time I grew them.

Pp H eats a lot like your LO. I feel very lucky, lots of veg and fruits rice potatoes fish. We give him a fork and he'll use it part way and his hands the rest. I'm sure he'll grow out of it. We encorage but not force. As long as the food is going down. And sometimes he'll want us to feed him and we do. They'll get there.

H had his first night without a sleeping bag. They weren't washed. He's awake now but still lying down. I thought he'd be on his feet as soon as he woke up.

persepolis123 · 19/05/2014 07:14

Greetings from Istanbul quiche Smile We are here with DP's family and having a fab time. C was shy around them for ooh five minutes and now sticks to SIL like glue! Beautiful weather and lots of shopping done already.

chasing lovely to hear you sounding so happy, seems you are in a good place.

flouncy where are you off to on hols?

pp C is the same. He is more than capable of eating with cutlery but won't do so for more than a few mouthfuls. Usually I then feed him a couple of mouthfuls and put the fork back into his hands. I wonder if I should leave him to it though as long as he's eating or if I need to get him in the habit of using cutlery all the time now?

ValiumQueen · 19/05/2014 07:53

Hugs Stunt.

You will always be Izzy might as well NC back I reckon Wink

My kids have always been cautious with forks. Possibly after hurting their mouths, or because they have yet to learn how to pull food off the fork with their mouths. Spoons tend to be tipped in, but a fork requires quite a bit of coordination and a different angle.

Wandathewindfairy · 19/05/2014 07:56

We are in most active. Shock at 08:00hrs Shock

Nit feeling v active tbh.

flouncymcflouncerson · 19/05/2014 07:56

I'm intrigued by the cutlery talk. J has no clue what to do with them. We all eat together most nights but he just doesn't know what to do. I need to remember he didn't have his first taste of solids until he was 10 months old so a good 4 months behind all your babies.

As for izzy.....

GTbaby · 19/05/2014 07:57

H is ok with a fork. Although I tend to put food on for him. And spoons usually involve messy good. I'm a control freak. I need to let go more. But every time I try he throws all his food on the floor which really puts me off.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 19/05/2014 07:59

I suppose she could come back :)

PurplePidjin · 19/05/2014 08:06

Persy you made it yaaaaaaaaay Grin Grin Grin

I'm forgiving r the 7am giant turd on the basis he didn't wake me all night before that it's not the first or even second time this week Shock

Elizadoesdolittle · 19/05/2014 09:02

Morning all. Had a fab weekend. Unfortunately DD1 not feeling well though so quiet day at home I think. Looks like another glorious day so will see if she's up for the garden later. Although sun when you're feeling poorly isn't good.

E will use part cutlery part hands for her food. I care not a jot as long as she eats. I'll work on cutlery skills in a couple of months if she doesn't look like she's getting it.

Hope everyone has a good day.

MsJupiter · 19/05/2014 09:26

Hello, had another poorly day yesterday, very sad and wobbly boy. Had a better night & he seems improved this morning but still croaky and not himself. I am not going to take him back to tumble tots till after half term. Luckily I hadn't paid anything yet.

Nice to see Izzy back in her proper form Smile

Well done on sleep Pidj Smile

Hope dd1 improves today Eliza Thanks

L uses cutlery (s&f) along with his hands for most meals. He loves scooping and spearing with them and will sometimes only eat something if it's on a fork. As always his enthusiasm exceeds his coordination but he does his best!

Passmethecrisps · 19/05/2014 11:10

Break time!

You have always been izzy to me. Even in RL!

P uses cutlery although sometimes she gets bored and uses her hands. She likes her fork very much and is getting the hang of spooning soup herself. She pretty much refuses my help and the most I can do is load the spoon and leave it sitting for her. I usually have two on the go.

PetiteRaleuse · 19/05/2014 11:34

Spoon and fork here. Both girls like to be fed occasionally. DD1 also enjoys feeding LO.
Paed has said she'll look at a photo of LO's rash to be sure it's like last time but has prepared me a prescription from my over the phone description. So hopefully unless she spots something in the picture LO can stay in nursery blissfully unaware that she has not had to go to the Dr, which she always finds upsetting Hmm

My house has been invaded by flies the buzzy little fuckers are everywhere.

Busy day doing chores and making calls and getting stuff done.

Both girls are going through a refusing to wear certain items of clothing phase. i guess LO is just copying DD1 but mornings are not fun atm.

My headache and heatrash have gone. Bloody summer. At least wasp season isn't properly started yet.

StuntNun · 19/05/2014 11:48

Just off the phone with the GP, he wants to swap the Omeprazole and start Ranitidine tomorrow. Seems reasonable as J seems worse if anything - really acidic breath as well as burping and wind. He mentioned giving both as option and I had to bite my tongue from saying but if one's a protein pump inhibitor and the other decreases the stomach acidity then there's no point in giving both.

My mum is dropping everything and flying over tonight for a week. I feel really guilty as it's a bit much for her to have to cancel meetings and explain to my dad that she won't be able to visit him for a week. But then I really don't think I can get through another night of screaming.
