Hello to all. Michael is now 2 months old - 9 weeks today. He is doing well and has started sleeping through from 11pm-ish to just before 7. DD did this from about this age, so we hoped he would be similar. I hope this will give heart to those of you whose babies came later in July - the end of the tunnel may be in sight.

He has been colicky for the last week. I think it wasn't helped by the 8-week immunisations, which definitely unsettled him. He slept a lot more for a day or so, then was very unhappy and tearful for most of the day late last week. But now it's getting a bit better. Increasing the dosage of Infacol and using the sling more during the day seem to help. Also, I have tried going back to the decaffeinated tea and coffee I drank while PG. Hard to know what in particular has done the trick, but he's been much happier for the last day or so.

nixnoo · 05/09/2006 12:28

Bloss, you are so good! I am still eating for 2 in al lthe bad ways!

We had a great day yesterday- Sefton has now accepted the dummy a bit instead of the boob, so am getting slighlty longer breaks, also have found when he gets miserable to put him in the baby bjorn and get on with things, he becomes very settled. Have him in it now, so even though I am typing - with TWO hands - I have to keep rocking! He hates sleeping in his cot during the day - really fights sleep, so having him sleep in the baby bjorn for an hour is great.

And the BEST thing is - he slept for 6.5 hours last night - a new record! From 9pm till 2:30am... although when he woke he had me up for 2 hours grrrrrrrrrrr... he was being so cute though - laughing and gurgling. I kept trying to not respond so he wold get bored and go back to sleep but it was impossible!

Am quite lucky in that he goes from bottle to boob with no problem. The Dr Brown bottles (anit-colic) are good too. We are using Hipp organic infant formula for the night feed, he seems fine on it.

Hope you are all well....

On a completely different note:
I saw MN are doing a Xmas party in London in November - will any of you go? Will be greta to meet the faces behind the names - I bet there wil be many wallets with photos!

x

nixnoo · 05/09/2006 12:29

oops, meant 5.5 hours - just so you know my maths aint that bad!

koshka1984 · 05/09/2006 13:32

hi everyone

not posted for a while but i have been keeping up to date with all your progress!
Jake is 9 weeks old now and i had a meeting with work today about returning on the 13th november.
but they have REASSIGNED my shift that i worked on my overrnight shift that i had asked my mu to babysit for, that way i have used up 11 hours of the week all in one go!
i just want to swear!!!

Jake is a milk guzzler, he has 7is ounces every feed about 5 times a day, he is very placid and he sleeps 11-4am then 5to9am ish most nights.

Hope everyones jabs went ok, he had a bit of a yell then he calmed down!

koshka x

ps welcome newbies x

Wallace · 05/09/2006 15:21

I think I forgot to say hello to the newbies - so hi

Leo woke up not long after he settled himself, but did settle again later so not so bad. He is in size 3 nappies already Solved the leaking problem by moving up a size!

IamBlossom · 05/09/2006 19:54

The Tobster weighed in at a whopping 12 6!!!!! That's a pound since last week, at 4 weeks old. I was clearly a cow in my previous life (although there may be some that say I am one in this life too...)

xx

Wallace · 05/09/2006 20:26

Wow Bloss - I thought Leo was a whopper (12 6 last week age 5 weeks) but you've beaten that! I think I too was a cow in a previous life (you should see my udders at the mo ;)) ds1 doubled his birthweight aged 7 weeks [shock}

prettymum · 05/09/2006 22:47

usandbump · 06/09/2006 06:53

Morning all

Knackered here!

Where are you KZ? Hope everything is ok you weren't on yesterday.

Got to go feed my little monkey I'll pop back later x

usandbump · 06/09/2006 09:29

nixnoo I would like to go to the Xmas party, like you say it would be lovely to meet everyone. Please tell me Zack will take a bottle by then!!!

What was everyone elses post-natal check like? It wasn't even worth going to mine it went a bit like this....
"Was it a normal delivery?"
"How do you feel?"

"Okay have a think about contraception oh and bye"

I must have been in the room less than a minute! I'd got myself all worked up about the prospect of an examination if only I'd known.

Zack went down at about 8.30 last night then woke at 1 went back down at 1.30 woke again at 3.30 went back down at 4.30 and woke at 6.15. I know it could be much worse but I just wish he would sleep a bit longer after waking the first time.

kbaby · 06/09/2006 10:05

our night went; fed 9.30, 11.15 2.45, 6.20. so actually not too bad and he didnt wake at 4am! i feel like a new woman.
yesterday i completly lost the plot. i was tired and had a head ache and even though i fed him laying down on the bed hoping he woul sleep sp i could he just cried and cried. i felt so frustrated that my baby cries all the time. i was sobbing and had to ring dh to come home and rescue me as i couldnt cope with the endless crying any longer.im still debating if i should stop bf which isnt helping as i cant make up my mind what to do.
ive got a visit of the hv today as poss pnd

usandbump · 06/09/2006 10:16

I'm sending you a big [HUG]] kbaby. I hope the HV helps and I know its a big decision giving up BF but I think a happy mummy is the best and most important thing for you and your family. You have already given your LO a great start. xxxxxxx

nixnoo · 06/09/2006 10:24

A crying baby can drive anyone to distraction. You sound like you are doing remarkably well in the circumstances. Good luck with HV xxxx

He slept for 6.5 hours in a row last night and only had a 20min before going back to sleep! yay yay yay, I think things are turning around.

I have my check up, and his first shots today tho
x

JeanieG · 06/09/2006 10:51

Hiya All,

JUst a quick one to say hi and kbaby- We have been half co-sleeping. Although I like the idea of getting some time without Abbey being attached to me , it just seems to keep her a lot more settled being with me through the night. This also means I get some more sleep. She wont settle or go to anyone throughout the day and will even scream when she goes to DH. The only person she will go to is my DS aged 10. I think that is only because he is the image of me (poor kid).(Abbey is similar to your DS, high needs and colicky). It's very hard isn't it.

HC- I'm still trying to think of some way to help you with your MIL, but as you know from my previous posts I have a whole set of issues with my strange MIL. I feel very calm about her this last week as she is on holiday for 2 weeks. Yipee!!!

Hopefully get back on later,

Bye for now

JeanieG · 06/09/2006 10:58

Also meant say, I bought a set of scales yesterday as I didn't have a clue what I weighed and I wish I hadn't. I am 10 stone 2. 1 whole stone heavier than I was before I was pg. That's really not good. I will defo have to start eating less crap and more healthily.

kbaby · 06/09/2006 11:44

thanks everyone for the support. the hv thinks its only mild pnd if at all, she thinks its more sleep deprevation as only really getting 4hrs broken sleep, dealing with a toddler plus a high needs/colicky baby.
can i ask a poo question, ds only really poos every 3 days and its always yellow but v runny[watery] is anyone elses like this also he constantly does smelly fluffs.

i cant believe the weight of some of your lo. last week at 4 weeks ds was only 9lb 14 he was 8lb 11 born.

whitestar · 06/09/2006 12:42

Hi everyone, Thanks for your warm welcomes.
Logan slept from 11.30 till 4.30 then fed and slept till 7 ish and then gave me a bonus lie in till 9 hurray!! I'm mainly bf but I give him cow and gate formula as a last bottle at night then I've just introduced a ff at 2 in the afternoon. He's taken really well to it and it gives me that all important rest.

K baby I think it's normal for bf babies to hang on to their poo for days it's so they can get all the goodness out. As long as it's soft and yellowy when they do go it's all fine. And Logan farts very loudly and they stink I'm sure people think it's me

Had some nerveracking news yesterday. Logan was born with bilateral talipes aka two clubbed feet. He had plaster casts put on at 6 days old and has them changed every week to get his feet into a more normal position. They are correcting really well and they have booked him in for an operation to cut his achilles tendon in 2 weeks! way before I was expecting it. So now I need to arrange a night out for myself so that my mum can babysit. I don't want the first time I leave him to be handing him over to strangers at the hospital!

Have a good day girls It's lovely and sunny here so I think I'll go for a good long walk after lunch

Wallace · 06/09/2006 13:23

That is nervewracking whitestar, I'll be thinking of you.

kbaby - no wonder you are emotional and weepy, you must be exhausted. Hugs to you, and hope you get some rest.

We sort of cosleep. Leo is in the moses basket beside the bed, and I take him into the bed to feed him. More often than not I fall asleep, and he spends most of the night in our bed.

He was weighed again today - 14lbs 1oz He was 12lbs6 last week. He really is a wee porker!

Is anyone elses baby really spotty? Leo had lovely skin until about 2 weeks ago, and now he is so spotty and his skin is starting to look really dry.

agalch · 06/09/2006 15:28

Wallace are you bf? my dd has the same thing.Apparently bf babies can get this because of hormones in the breastmilk?
So my hv tells me anyway.Said it should go soon.

JeanieG · 06/09/2006 15:34

Hi again,

Walllace-Abbey is also really spot and has dry skin especially on her forehead and top of her nose.

Whitestar-That is really nerveracking. I will be thinking of you and your lo.

usandbump · 06/09/2006 15:44

That must have been a bit of a shock Whitestar but if it has to be done its better to get it over with.

Zack poos every 3-4 days now, I was worried initially because he used to poo at every feed

Also spotty and dry skin

We have yummy home made chips and egg for tea I'm never going to get rid of this surplus weight Some days you just want comfort food.

donna3 · 06/09/2006 15:51

kbaby you have my sympathy. I've been feeling really crap for the last week too, but at least I don't have a toddler to contend with - just a husband with big scarey professional exams in a couple of weeks who wants lots of support and looking after at the moment. I had a similar discussion with my hv to you by the sound of it (after I'd burst into tears on her).

I think its normal to feel a bit low and weepy at this stage - I think a lot of it is sleep deprivation - have you got anybody who can look after the kids for you for a couple of hours so you can get some sleep?

My ds goes anything up to 6 days without pooing - they say up to 7 days is normal when they're bfing, but it is a bit alarming. Then again I hate changing dirty nappies, so maybe we should look on it as a bonus. I think very loud farts in the most inappropriate places are all part of it too!

I'm impressed with all of you keeping the babies in your rooms let alone in your beds for so long. Mine's been banished to the nursery as he has lovely long chats with himself at 5am and was driving us nuts!

donna3 · 06/09/2006 15:55

Just had a look down the forum - lots of hugs to you whitestar too. I'm sure you'll be able to stay with him though - my little boy is going into Tommies at the end of October to get his cleft lip repaired and I'm staying with him for the 3 days- they have fold down beds by the cots for parents, and I'm sure its the same most places. It is a bit nerve-wracking thinking about it though, but at least they won;t remember it.

FirstAtForty · 06/09/2006 16:48

Hugs to you kbaby ? hope DS settles soon and you can get some proper rest. Crikey ? it isn?t surprising you?re stressed looking after a colicky baby and a toddler with very little sleep. Doing anything on very little sleep is bad enough let alone that so you must be doing pretty well!

Emma was crying in her bouncy chair the other day when DP and I were trying to grab a few mouthfuls of dinner and I asked him if he found it stressful to listen to (cos I was) ? he just gave me a look and showed me his palms and forehead, drenched in sweat?

Whitestar ? hugs to you too and like Usandbump said it will be good to get it over with, Great that the plaster casts are doing a good job already though.

Hi Usandbump! I?m glad you?re still posting as it?s great to catch up on how you and Emma?s ?twin? are doing! Seven (and a half ) weeks has certainly flown.

Yes ? my 6 week check up was pretty much as brief as that, same questions, though she did take my blood pressure. I was all geared up to have my stitches inspected and all sorts, but no ? so don?t know whether that was a good thing or not! She did do checks on Emma though, shone a torch into her eyes, took nappy off and rotated her hips and er, I think that was it. HV weighed her at the clinic and took head circumference. She was 9 lbs 5 at 6 weeks, don't know what she is now.

She still has lots of milk spots and quite dry skin on the rest of her body.

Christmas meet up sounds good ? will look up details. xx

prettymum · 06/09/2006 17:48

hi all,
kbaby i hope everything settles for you soon!! my dd is going to be 2 next month and she is pretty good at keeping herself entertained but when she plays up, ds decides that he wants attention too!!

ive now started to give ds formula, i felt guilty introducing it to him at first, but he has taken to it well and dp can now feed him often so i get a break and have time to catch up on other stuff.

ds has very bad dry skinon face and neck, he has very dark and its getting patchy! im constantly moisturising him with aqueous cream.
