The Maybies are on the move to Postnatal! This is for graduated Maybies (and other baybies due in May but with other ideas; the almost-Maybies!) to discuss adventures in sleepless nights, nappies and lovely newborn snuggles. However you feed, however you nappy, however you give birth and however you like your tea - if your baby was born in May (or was supposed to be!), this is the post-natal club for you!

So glad you are doing well and have found a nice support group Smile

(I forgot I name changed btw, I was cbeebies!)

Mummycherry2 · 05/06/2014 02:56

How do I find the fb group?

Alfie is doing well mummytobe! He is doing 4-5 hour sleeps from about 10pm onwards so I'm more than happy with that and I'm starting to get the odd glimpse of a smile :)

Ah that make sense sholer! How's baby pop and how are you coping with the other little ones as well?

ohdearitshappeningtome · 05/06/2014 09:14

I'm positive somebody wise wi come along and add you. I'm too thick lol

moobaloo · 05/06/2014 12:42

Questio for the breast feeders - how long did your babies feed for at 1 week old? And how much did it hurt?
I'm persevering with bfing Freddy BUT he is awkward to latch and when he's latched properly (midwife opinion) he stays on usually happily for 5-10 minutes before pulling away and I then find it very hard to latch him on again, although he'll take a bottle of EBM after this so I don't think he's really getting much from the breast. Now he's putting on weight I want to get back to exclusively bfing but we're both finding the bottle so easy as I know he's got enough into him and he's lazy on the boob, I think. He gets cross with it! The other reason I'm finding it easier to express is bfing hurts! I don't know whether his latch is wrong or if it's the normal pain of sore nipples and it will improve the more I do it, but I don't want to do it too much if it's wrong! It's bearable pain, feels a bit like expressing did when I started doing that, and I've got used to that already.

What do you think?

moas · 05/06/2014 13:39

Hi moo, very impressed with your expressing and breastfeeding! I found it got less sore after about 10 days. I was worried too that DS2 did not latch on perfectly but I think the nipples just needed to toughen up in our case. I used to be a big expresser with DS1, as he was in intensive care for the first month and then never learnt to bf. I expressed for about 4 months with him and then went on to formula. With the experience of DS2 though, I have to say I found expressing much harder work than bf. It's amazing to not have to worry about bottles! If I were you I would try to persevere for another week or so, to see if things improve.
Have you tried leaving him a bit longer between feeds to see if he is less lazy? It helped us (we use a dummy in between feeds). I still find it hard to know if he is getting enough but I'm starting to trust that he is. Nappies and weight are the only keys, really. Had him weighed this morning and he'd gained 11oz in a week so it seems to be working!! Good luck.

Mummycherry2 · 05/06/2014 19:32

Hi Moo, you're doing amazingly well!

I remember mine were painful for first week or so, are you using Lansinoh cream? Expensive but well worth it! I also found putting warm flannels around boob helped and soothed.

Alfie was a bit like that and still is actually, he doesn't feed for massive periods of time. He guzzles for about 5-10 mins then grumbles and then will go on again and repeat this 3-4 times. When I saw the breastfeeding counsellor at health centre she watched and said its because he has trapped wind. Lol trust me not to notice that for nearly a month :- s! Have you checked freddy for that just in case?

My personal opinion is to just do whatever works for you, as long as he's putting on weight and you're both happy and comfortable..who cares! Xx

It's quiet

moobaloo · 06/06/2014 18:13

It is quiet! I don't want to post too much and make it all me me me!

Ok questionnaire for you all

Does your baby look like you/your partner/aunty Ethel? Or like no one in your family?

Freddy looks just like dp when he was a baby, it's uncanny!

Bezzabelle · 06/06/2014 21:43

Baby looks like me I think but also exactly like ds1 did as a baby and he now is the spitting image of dh so I'm not expecting it to last!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 07/06/2014 03:22

Apparently mini me looks like me! Apparently when I take a pic of him it's like a selfie!

Chip86 · 07/06/2014 07:33

She is a clone of DH except her mouth wich is like my DF she is calm like me and folders her arms like my nan Smile

sambababy · 07/06/2014 22:35

She has my turned up nose! (I was rather hoping she wouldn't!)

SicknSpan · 08/06/2014 08:39

All three of my boys look very much like their dad. Hardly anything of me at all! (Although ds2 has got my red hair which I am very pleased about, such an ego!)

MasterFlea · 08/06/2014 10:55

Wow, is it Sunday already? I really must try harder to keep up with this thread.

Moob wrt how often ds was nursing at 1 week, basically whenever he was awake. I don't use a watch so can't say times. He's 4 weeks now and only now interested in lioking about and not always feeding.

As long as there are plenty of wet nappies and he looks like he's looks like he's growing, then I trust he's getting enough from the boob. Some babies are faster at feeding than others.

We had his weight checked at 2 weeks and will be in the clinic again on Tuesday. He has outgrown a lot of clothes already.

He looks like DH too. But sometimes a little like my father too. My other two looked like me so it is nice that the final baby resembles him. DD2 is 2 yo and still looks like me. Um

moas · 08/06/2014 17:23

Just a quick update on the feeding here.. I suspected that my boy was having lactose overload, posted an article on here about 10 days ago. He was having greenish poos, wanting to feed all the time, gaining weight fine. I've now given him Colief for a few days and it seems to have sorted the problem! No explosive nappies and a much more settled boy, feeding every 3-4 hours. Happy days!

Can't believe he's 4 weeks tomorrow! Looks a lot like DS1 when he was a baby but darker hair.

Hope everyone's had a nice weekend! The days/weeks seem to slip away fast, i think, not been up to much.

MoominAndMiniMoom · 09/06/2014 17:07

This fell off my 'Threads Im on" again! Spend more time on the Facebook group nowadays.

Good news moas, I've heard good stuff about Colief :)

Callie's weight gain is a bit off; she started on 50th centile, then down to 30th and now she's on the 9th. Trying to encourage her to eat more but she's so active and wriggly and trying to move about that I suspect she just burns it all off really quickly.

Everyone says Callie looks like me. She started out as a clone of her dad but now I'm starting to see it :)

Your doing grand moomin

Bezzabelle · 09/06/2014 19:08

Hi all, so quiet on here now and not on Facebook so am hoping people will still pop back here.

How's everyone feeling about their weight? I know it shouldn't be important but everytime I get dressed in the morning, I feel a bit down! I know it shouldn't matter and I have a gorgeous baby that's only weeks old but I'm in that annoying in between stage where my normal clothes don't fit but maternity stuff is hanging off me. Probably doesn't help that it's summer so can't even hide under layers. Anyway, know I sound shallow so will stop moaning now and go and look at my lovely boys and be proud of my body that has grown and given birth to them!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 09/06/2014 21:15

I'm hovering at just under pre-pregnancy weight but I really want to lose more, mainly to get rid of the mummy tummy thing which is really getting me down. I don't understand where the weight's gone from because it's certainly not my tummy Grin Hmm I was going to do the 30 day abs challenge but I need to get my ab muscles checked first because they're not feeling quite right.

MasterFlea · 10/06/2014 12:43

I wish I looked like normal again too. I have to keep reminding myself that I just had a baby so shouldn't be so impatient. My feet look like normal feet again so that is nice.

Babyflea was checked at the clinic today. No idea of this centile chart thing but he is now 4.5kgs and 55cm tall. He is doing really well so far.

But we all have colds this week and he was finding it difficult to breathe while feeding. And his nose was worse lying down so last night was very hard for us. Had to let him sleep in our arms for stints to help him breathe.

nugget05 · 10/06/2014 13:30

Little update, baby nugget is still known as baby no name poor child, but is a happy baby (mostly) and putting on weight. We persevered with the breastfeeding and are now almost pro's, although we nearly had an argument when we went shops today. He got hungry, as babies do, and people were tutting and shaking their heads because he started crying. Found a quiet bench out of the way and fed him but people were giving me dirty looks! Pricks!! I got so angry I forgot the breast pads we went out for and now have to go back Angry Angry Angry some people shouldn't be allowed out.

Separate issue and more important, baby nugget has been throwing up, not just little socks but gushes of vomit quite watery it happened yesterday and again today just now (same sort of time) what could it be? I'm thinking maybe something I've eaten though I haven't had anything different, or maybe the heat? I make sure he's not in the sun, he's covered but not hot. I just don't know what it is Sad

ohdearitshappeningtome · 10/06/2014 21:20

Hope all ok nugget

dobedobedo · 10/06/2014 22:03

Nugget my ds2 is bf and he throws up loads and loads sometimes. I think it's cos he comfort feeds and his tummy is already full and can't take any more so up it all comes! Or sometimes trapped wind can bring up loads of milk. Lactation consultant told me it was quite normal as long as they seem well and plenty of nappies etc.

MasterFlea · 11/06/2014 06:31

BabyFlea does lots of pukes too. Yesterday morning I had to change my clothes twice before heading out. By the end of the evening, I was just wiping and thinking that I'd be in my jammies soon so no point in changing.

But he is growing like a beanstalk and a very happy chap so it must be just excess milk. Spills always look like more than the actual amount in a cup.

DH is back to work today. Will I survive with the 3 dcs?
