The Maybies are on the move to Postnatal! This is for graduated Maybies (and other baybies due in May but with other ideas; the almost-Maybies!) to discuss adventures in sleepless nights, nappies and lovely newborn snuggles. However you feed, however you nappy, however you give birth and however you like your tea - if your baby was born in May (or was supposed to be!), this is the post-natal club for you!

Should we make a postnatal group on FB? Or should we just hang about until everyone's popped and then resume chatting? Hehe Grin

Mummycherry2 · 28/05/2014 23:14

How's everyone doing? I can't bloody believe it but three and a half weeks after birth my period has returned!! I'm not amused!!

Nothing much exciting happening in the cherry household, think we've sorted the nights now though...down to two feeds, 3.5 hours apart, 4 if I'm lucky so I will take that!!

impatientlywaiting · 29/05/2014 03:49

Just checking in.

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop · 29/05/2014 08:51

Mummy cherry, that'll still be locia, it comes and goes for 6 weeks sometimes it will completely stop for days then start again suddenly. It's impossible to ovulate till at least 3 weeks after birth so it really won't be your period.

Mummycherry2 · 29/05/2014 09:20

Thank you cbeebies! I did think it had come very soon, normal to be accompanied with period pains? Everything is stinging a lot again and I suspect I have another infection :( going to phone gp again this morning. I'm not a happy cherry today!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 29/05/2014 10:20

I bled for 4 weeks I'm dreading the return of periods and spots and mood swings!

I suspect so is dh Wink

MasterFlea · 29/05/2014 15:12

My lochia is stopping and starting too. Some cramps too. My guess was that uterus is still shrinking cauong the cramps. Piles returned too with a vengance.

I don't use FB at all. I'll still be posting here when I get a chance.

I've started researching what kind of contraception to use. I'm finished having babies now. Has anyone had the copper coil?

SicknSpan · 29/05/2014 16:21

Masterflea I had the copper coil successfully after ds1 -was still bfing so couldn't have Mirena because of hormones. I would say though that for me it was incredibly painful being fitted- like labour (no exaggeration) for the following 8 hours. But v efficient and no need to worry about anything (apart from slightly heavier, but still regular and much less painful periods than pre-pregnancy.)

Had one fitted again after ds2 and again, v painful but no trouble after- until I found out v v v unexpectedly that I was pregnant with this wee beastie! Think this is a very uncommon but not unheard of failure. Not wanting to scare you!

Mummycherry2 · 29/05/2014 16:24

Have been sat sobbing for the afternoon. Infection in would all way down confirmed- third one since giving birth less than a month ago. Dr took swob and I fainted from the pain of it. Why am I not getting better???

ohdearitshappeningtome · 29/05/2014 21:07

Awww cherry! Won't they admit
You for strong antibiotics?

Chip86 · 30/05/2014 06:48

Oh cherry that is awful you poor thing hope they get it sorted soon for you.

moas · 30/05/2014 13:18

Checking in...
Anyone using a dummy yet? I've been advised to wait til he's a month old but started using one a couple of days ago. This boy just wants to feed all the time and it's led to him getting too much watery milk and not enough of the creamy stuff. I read this article, sounds just like him. www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/lactose-overload-babies
So now I'm leaving 2 hours between feeds and it's dummy in the meantime.

MasterFlea · 30/05/2014 15:51

mummyCherry, that is awful. Hope they can help you somehow.

Thanks Spic. I had a good read of how they insert it after reading your post and decided it is too early too let anyone root around in my fanjo. So I'll wait until my periods come back before getting it in. Hopefully bfeeding will keep the periods away until next year. Condoms till then.

Ventured out to the library with the 2 dds and baby today. First time out in public with dcs and no DH. Went well, no tears from anyone nor did we get kicked out of the library so I'm delighted.

MasterFlea · 30/05/2014 16:01

moas just read the article. When mine keeps looking for the breast, especially at cluster times, I often put him back on the same breast. This helps him get the fattier hind milk and stops his poos from becoming green. I've become a expert at squeezing my breasts and gauging when to changeover. But I've been breastfeeding for 4 years now with only 4 or 5 months off for pregnacies.

Not going to use a dummy here. But I don't mind him using my boob as a dummy either. Personal preference.

moas · 30/05/2014 18:19

Thanks Master! You do seem a true master both at breast feeding and juggling 3 kids! I'm well impressed, I took baby + DS to the library today too and it was fine but we had DH with us!

Hezbean · 30/05/2014 20:12

Really interesting article moas. Seems like I might have the same issue - feeding frequently, gassy, loads of wet and explosive nappies, cluster feeding like mad in the evenings. Any tips on how to know when it's hind milk would be massively appreciated! Usually I switch boobs after the first one goes a bit soft and she's having more trouble latching on - the nipple is softer and she starts chewing on it a bit. Normally about 20 mins per side. I'll kind of squeeze the boob with my hand to make it easier for her.

So impressed at you juggling three babies! We made it out to show her off at my office today and it felt like a real achievement!

wm3010 · 30/05/2014 20:46

I was advised to only feed from one boob for about an hour at a time too, we are having wind problems also, although not explosive nappies, there is a bit of a lack of pooey nappies unfortunately and I think that doesn't help with wind. Anyway, feeding frenzy the last couple of afternoons lasting about an hour. By the end of that, dd is basically just messing about with the nipple, won't latch properly and keeps biting the nipple between her gums and turning her head away but if I take her off completely she screams and roots. Does that mean the boob is too empty for her? Not sure what to do, it hurts and am feeling a bit down about the bf thing anyway as feel like she has more of a relationship with dh as he can cuddle her etc without her looking for milk the whole time. Sad

Chip86 · 30/05/2014 22:59

I have found expressing for 5min on one side then giving that side to baby has made a huge diffrence less wind and figeting as i have lots of fore milk and its very fast
also keep her on that one side the whole feed and express the other side then next feed use the side i expressed to stop getting hard and that keeps milk supply up
lots of work
hope it gets easyer for everyone and im very impressed by thouse who managed to get out with little ones

nugget05 · 31/05/2014 09:08

Hey guys thought I'd drop in, I'm new to the postnatal side of maybies so tell me to shush if I pick your brains too much. Baby nugget was born on 27th weighing 7lbs10 Smile he still has no name and I have no ideas Hmm Reading all the breastfeeding posts hoping to get some help for my poor boobs, he's a hungry baby and is almost constantly feeding any advice would be very welcome Grin and congratulations to everyone on the birth of their maybies x

sambababy · 31/05/2014 10:10

I think Sofia is trying to give me nipple extensions. The tugging!! Aaaggghhh

cherry sorry you're still suffering with infection. Did they give you the same antibiotics this time round? I'm wondering if it hadn't cleared up 100% the previous times. Have they given you advice on how to care for the stitches, like rinse & dry the area every time you use the toilet plus change the pad? Really hope it clears up for you soon Flowers

Not long now til all the maybies graduate over to here! It seems to have gone really fast! The overdue ladies may disagree.

sambababy · 31/05/2014 10:13

Didn't refresh the page. Congratulations nugget! Only advice I have on bf is use lansinoh religiously. Has your milk come in yet? Things might get better when it does.

CokeFan · 31/05/2014 10:51

Baby CokeFan arrived on 28th May (only 15 days late!) weighing 9lb 11oz by EMCS after induction, drip, epidural etc. all got a bit much and he got distressed.

We're back at home now and he's feeding well. Only lost 6.1% body weight and he seems quite chilled despite his dramatic appearance.

wm3010 · 31/05/2014 13:20

Congrats to newbies! chip I thought about expressing but advice seems to be it could make oversupply worse as you are stimulating milk production even more?!

nugget 3 weeks in here and dd still wants to feed about every 2 hours on average, sometimes more and sometimes less. Her weight is up by nearly a pound though which does help it seem worth it!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 31/05/2014 13:28

Mini me is almost 7 weeks old a weighs 10lb8

Surprisethird · 31/05/2014 17:10

Hi, just checking in, Gracie is now 16 days old, average feeding gap is 1hr 45 mins, at night sometimes she goes 3 hrs which is bliss, doesn't seem like I get a minute to myself though to do the things I need to do, have 2 other children's but there older so forgot how little time you get lol, god know how I am going to juggle work, I am self employed so work from home, but at mo either feeding, winding settling, changing nappy, and that's all I seem to have time for, have ing a rare 5mins at most, hence my catch up on here!
Does anyone know when the breastfeeding gets less intense as it's been 9 yrs since last time
