Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lily I hope the jags are ok and do not cause too much disruption over the next few weeks. My girls barely noticed them, so hopefully O will be the same.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 06:50

I cried with all three. For months Grin

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 06:52

DD2 just did a huge fart. She stood up, raised her hand, nodding, and said 'oh yeah' with a big grin on her face.

Lily311 · 25/02/2014 08:15

Jabs done, she cried. I nearly cried but pull myself together. She needs to have a blood test done, poor girl. It's a routine here, she also needs to get her eyes checked.

I cried when O was born. I couldn't believe how much she looked like Leo.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 08:19

Oh Lily I bet you did cry (((hug)))

Thechick · 25/02/2014 08:34

I didn't cry. I was in shock as I was in complete denial that he was coming 6 weeks early.

H's temperature has been really high. Went to drs yesterday and they said to bring him back on Wednesday if it doesn't settle. It goes down to about 37.4 with calpol but back up. You guys have said bad things about ibuprofen. What's so bad about it? We haven't used it yet, but it looks like we are going to have to.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 08:45

Brufen can result in a reaction. Rarely. It can aggravate reflux. It can erode the tummy so should ideally be taken with food, or milk. It can however be very effective for reducing inflammation and high temperature. Even the humble aspirin can do result in a major reaction, and paracetamol is incredibly dangerous in excess doses. I give calpol in the first instance, but resort to brufen if it is not enough x

ditsygal · 25/02/2014 08:59

I use Ibruprofen when needed (usually for a temp) Chick. I make sure we are always using the correct dose and usually only give once or twice a day if needed rather then the 3 times you can, but it lasts longer then calpol and does the job, so I see no harm as long as you are sticking to instructions.

Lily311 · 25/02/2014 09:17

I use ibuprofen too, after food and max twice a day. First always give her calpol but sometimes alternate it.

StuntNun · 25/02/2014 09:30

Chick Ibuprofen upsets some people's stomachs, the only way to know is to try it. If J has it then he gets stomach pains later and I know PR can't take it at all. VQ I thought paracetamol was more dangerous to adults than to children
because children have an immature system to transport paracetamol across the gut lining so it's more difficult for them to absorb large quantities. We had a scare with DS1 when he managed to climb up and get the Calpol bottle and it turned out he would have had to drink the entire bottle to be in significant danger.

I cried when O was born. Out of relief and exhaustion more than anything else, I think. I then spent the next 48 hours in hospital crying, but for different reasons Hmm

PetiteRaleuse · 25/02/2014 09:55

Morning all. Just back from the supermarket

Talking of brufen (and as long as he has eaten it is v effective like they said so don't worry chick despite my horror stories) after almost three years of wondering why I had such a huge reaction to anti-inflammatories and no doctors being able to explain it my pharmacist gave me an explanation last week which might fit the bill - after the emcs I had several anti clotting jabs which thin the blood - normal procedure - she thinks the combination plus a natural intolerance I was unaware of caused such a huge problem. She said she had been thinking about it since I told her the story and chatted with medical family members and that's what they came up with. Sweet of her to care enough to try and find a reason she is almost forgiven for regularly asking when I am due.

Glad J is getting better vq and glad the jabs are over lily . We have one more set in April then we are done for a couple of years.

Off to the post office - tis my DSis and BIL's birthdays next week and am determined to get the card off on time asit's a big one.

applepieinthesky · 25/02/2014 09:55

I didn't cry when C was born. I had had about five hours sleep in the previous three days and physically had nothing left in me. I still don't know how I had the energy to push him out, we were all convinced it was going to end in a Caesarian.

DP cried though and my mum did too.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 09:56

You may well be right Stunt. I know in hospital they will often give twice the dose we can give. Having looked after a young lady who died of liver failure having taken only 12 PCM and a lemsip, I am always very cautious.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 10:00

That makes sense PR.

StuntNun · 25/02/2014 10:04

That's awful VQ, did she have a liver problem?

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 25/02/2014 10:06

I didn't cry either. DH did. I was still out of my tree!

Chick ibuprofen gives J awful tummy pain and aggregates his reflux but that's because he's prone to reflux I think.

Evilwater · 25/02/2014 10:09

This is what I've written for my homework for nursery:

Thurs- I chose my own new night wear, I like bright colours.
Fri- I helped mummy sweep And load the washing machine. Then she told me all the noises the farm animals make in my book.
Sat- I went for a walk with grandad and mum, we told him the names of the trees and birds we saw. I liked the primrose.
Sun- I practiced sharing with aunty and I ate all my roast. I made a new friend.
Mon- I made two paintings at toddler group. mummy told me all the names of the traffic on our walk. I saw a lorry with a digger on.

Sounds good? We are off to another toddler group soon.
Evil

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 10:19

Stunt, it was about 20 years ago when I was a student nurse. She had no known liver problems. She was in her early 20s and had a bad cold so had stayed home, in bed, and taken PCM every 4 hours, but did not take into account the 24 hour thing. She also had a lemsip, so had nearly twice the maximum dose in 24 hours. She did not show symptoms for a while. A few days if I recall. I will never forget it. I didn't see the autopsy reports so there may have been more to it. I have had clients taking massive overdoses and being fine.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 10:21

Evil, N is a lucky little boy to have you as his mummy Smile You are doing a fine job.

ValiumQueen · 25/02/2014 10:22

J knows new songs - wheels on the bus, baa baa black sheep, and hands go up, hands go down. The tune is just perfect and you can make out some words. With actions as appropriate.

FatimaLovesBread · 25/02/2014 10:24

M had a bad night and naughty mummy sent her to the CM. The number if times she's seemed a bit off colour but been fine during they day. Today wasn't one of those times.
Got a phonecall at work so had to pick her up.

She's not right, she's been a bit off colour for a week or so with these colds going round and teething but she's had good days in between.
Today she's got a temperature, clingy, raspy chest, her breathing doesn't seem right and she's got a horrible cough and green snotty nose.
Got a doctors appointment this afternoon to check her out.
I've just given her ibuprofen, how long would you wait before paracetamol? 3 hours? And how long should it take for ibuprofen to have an effect on temperature?

ditsygal · 25/02/2014 10:32

fatima i find ibuprofen starts to work in about 30 mins and by an hour the temp is down. If the ibuprofen works on its own then no need to give calpol too, but if she needs it a dr told me to give something every 3-4 hours so I would give calpol in 3-4 hours. I always work out when I will want to give the bedtime dose and make sure that will be ibuprofen as it lasts the longest and work out gaps from there.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/02/2014 10:57

Nurofen makes DD1 hyper for some reason. I only rarely give it her (I think the last time was when she had flu last February and paracetamol wasn't enough). Doesn't have the same effect on LO.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/02/2014 11:05

I bought a potty for LO today. She has taken to sitting on DD1's (clothed) to do poos. I'm not going to start training until autumn but it helps her with her constipation. Unfortunately DD1 goes ballistic every time, hence a potty each. Anyone else's LO announcing poos? LO sits down and shrieks 'ca-ca' every time, plus some times when it is just a fart.
