Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

Swimming, bedtime, shopping, breakfast - its all a complete mystery to me how you'd do any of these tasks with 2 children. Doffs cap to mothers of multiple small people.

We've been doing 'cooncil' lessons since 6 weeks and little girl is quite the water baby.We got given arm bands this week much to the annoyance of the mothers of older babies who still haven't got them. ha ha ha eat our bubbles Wink

Sunny I'm trying not to think of the day to day tasks like bedtime, mealtimes, bath time etc. Think I'll be doing online food shopping!

BeanCalledPickle · 01/03/2014 07:46

Woo hoo! Finally got the house! Contracts exchanged yesterday and we move on 14th! As we are selling to a complete arsehole we might have some nappy free time before we go:-)

MrsBri · 01/03/2014 08:03

Bean, at least you don't have to do any more housework while you're living there! And nappy free time sounds like a very good plan indeed :-) (I read your thread about the arsehole buyer!).

Sweet, I'm not even going there considering the logistics of having 2. We will just have to cope, however tricky it is!

I can do the swimming thing on my own though as I also did Puddleducks.

Someone mentioned poo. We get about 1 a day. And it's like our poo now she's eating. In fact, now she finally seems to be getting eating a bit more and is having more fibre, she's finding it easier to poo. Which is a bonus.

She also slept for 9.5 hours last night. Unheard of! She's a noisy sleeper though, so still woke us a couple of times. But I can cope with that.

Back to work on Thursday. Boo!

I know Curly goes back then too. Who else is left to return?

Sunbeam18 · 01/03/2014 15:07

Nice one re the sleep, MrsBri! We are all recovering from colds so nights aren't great at the moment (like they ever were!). We are getting at least 4 poos per day, often requiring several outfit changes. I'm sure we are doing something wrong.
God, back to work...how do you feel? What are your child care plans? I was due originally to go back March 17th but I was made redundant in early Feb so now not going back. Am going to start thinking about finding part time work after the summer, I think. The payoff was good so no pressure.

MrsBri · 01/03/2014 15:39

We've had very few good nights' sleep to be honest. I think I can count in one hand the number of times she's slept for more than 6-7 hours at a time. No doubt it'll go to pot again tonight!

Because of teething she gets a bunged nose, which then wakes her in a panic as she can't breathe. So I can relate to not so good nights. :-/

DH is going to look after her, with help from MiL if required. There's no point looking for external child care as I'm only going back for 3 months before starting my next batch of maternity leave.

I'm gutted to be going back, but I'm the main earner so have no choice.

What kind of thing will you look for? Same as before or something more child friendly?

Sunbeam18 · 01/03/2014 16:05

Fingers crossed last night was a turning point for you. I live in hope! Great that your DH will look after Amy - means you don't have to worry. Are you going back FT? I can't remember.
I work in publishing, and hoping to get something related (though not much in the way of opportunities here). I might consider freelance work from home. It's nice to have no back to work deadline hanging over me, but weird to have no career to go back to too. Great that you don't have too long until you are 'off' (using term v loosely) again with the two wee ones. Will you find out gender of the baby??

SweetPeaPods · 01/03/2014 16:19

I go back end to work of April then back on mat leave in Sept!

MrsBri · 01/03/2014 17:32

I have to work full time, sadly, as it's a condition of my job role. I'll probably be glad to escape next time, once there are two mischievous children playing havoc!

And no, we won't find out. We didn't with Amy, so we won't this time either. I loved finding out at the end!

Freelance would be good if there's enough work to keep you going. Nice to be your own boss and control your work levels. :-)

You go back for longer than me, Sweet. 3 months exactly here!

MadameJ · 01/03/2014 20:10

Well just added a pony to the family, dd1 is so excited!! I must be mad ;-)

SweetPeaPods · 02/03/2014 07:11

MrsBri 3 months you lucky thing! Do you have annual leave to take in that time? I get 27 days so I've to use that somewhere in my 5 months back. I'm going back FT too, PT request was refused so I kind of thing going back on mat leave is a bit of karma is that the word?

AlohaMama · 02/03/2014 08:49

Goodness me Madame, a pony!! Sure your dd must be thrilled.

I'm sure a few people mentioned having a smear test a while ago. Does anyone know does it matter when you go? When I had periods I know you were supposed to go mid-cycle but as I'm bf and havne't had any periods (on the mini-pill) do you think it matters when I go?

For those on the logistics of 2...DH works at home which helps as he gives a hand during breakfast. But sometimes he goes on work trips. In my experience you jsut have to let the baby cry more than you did with pfb. At the end of the day one will be screaming for food while hte other has a nappy that needs changing or is about to do something dangerous and you can't do everything at once, so someone has to cry. Otherwise for me it's all about routine. And online shopping. And allowing 30minutes at least to leave the house for any given reason.

MrsBri · 02/03/2014 08:56

I can't take annual leave in that time as I'm on secondment, which has to be for 60 working days. So I'm doing 2 days this week in the office / at home then starting secondment on 10th.

It'll finish on 5th June and I'll do the morning of 6th as I imagine I'll need to see my training principal before finishing again.

Then I'll take all my annual leave for the year before starting mat leave at 36 + weeks.

I could work a touch longer, but they'd have nowhere to put me for 2 weeks so it'd be painful and I'd be getting up at 5.30am for not much benefit!

I agree about the mat leave thing as I was refused 2 days working from home! But that's why I'm on secondment as it's only up the road (and next to the maternity hospital - useful!) rather than a 90 minute journey.

On another plus note...8.5 hours' sleep from Amy last night. Getting somewhere. I hope!

SunnyL · 02/03/2014 12:10

I knew it was too good to be true. We've had 4 nights in a row sleeping through til 6am but I refused to celebrate. This child plays psychological warfare with us and i refuse to let her win. as I expected she's reverted to her normal 1-2 wake ups a night over the weekend. Angry

oh and I want a pony!!

OP posts:
Sunbeam18 · 02/03/2014 16:06

1-2 wake ups is standard here too, I'm afraid. One day it will end, I tell myself , and I'll never take sleep for granted again.

curlyclaz13 · 02/03/2014 16:29

I would love 1-2 wake ups ! We had about a week of it then he had a cold and now we are back to around 4 and there are some rosey cheeks making an unwanted appearance in time for my return to work ! Dp is trying to get him to sleep with a cup of milk for the first time. Nursery are going to hate me ! I feed him to sleep every time and he is not keen on a bottle but he has had a teeny bit from the cup.

pinkbear82 · 02/03/2014 19:59

We had a blip the other night and I got 4 whole hours sleep. Woke up and had to go check her as so used to every two hours! Trouble was after the four hours all together I couldn't get back to sleep as felt like I had had my night already. Confused

SunnyL · 03/03/2014 07:14

Sorry ladies - I keep trying to remind myself there are others getting far less sleep than us. it just feels like we're the last of my friends to still have a child that doesn't sleep through.

Today is my birthday but I've been awake since 3.45. I was just getting back to sleep when munchkin woke a 5, then DH went to work at 5.45. I finally gave up trying to go back to sleep at 6.30. I really struggle to go back to sleep after waking. I'm thinking of signing up for a hypnotherapy course to train myself better.

MrsBri · 03/03/2014 07:32

Happy birthday, Sunny.

I'm the same as you re waking / not getting back to sleep. It's awful, isn't it?

Amy didn't sleep so well last night, waking at midnight then just before 7. So much for 8-9 hours.

I've got to get up at 5.30 on Thursday, why can't she just sleep?!?!

pinkbear82 · 03/03/2014 07:50

Happy birthday Sunny :) and I know the feeling of everyone else's sleeping through. Even mil keeps looking at me funny and saying I'm sure she should be sleeping through by now, I wonder why she isn't. Angry

Dd is clearly going to have a clingy day today, she was in having a cuddle with DP before he went to work and I went for a wee as soon as I was out of bed she started screaming and didn't stop till I came back Confused although to be honest a snugly day sounds good to me.

Hope everyone has a good day, and that sleep is everyone's friend tonight

Mrs81 · 03/03/2014 08:15

Happy birthday Sunny! Brew and Biscuit (in lieu of cake icon)

Sleep is fairly rubbish here too. But we also have snot and teething so to be expected.

I think we are in wonder week season again (wk37) which may explain some of the fusspot behaviours (and the crap sleep)!

Sunbeam18 · 03/03/2014 08:54

Happy birthday Sunny! And it is sunny too. We had a bad night last night - at least 4 wake ups with a snotty congested snout. Yes, everyone around us is sleeping through (one from the NCT class has slept 12 hours straight from 6 weeks old) so it does make it seem worse.
