Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

Happy birthday sunny !

RueDeWakening · 03/03/2014 21:30

Happy birthday Sunny!

SunnyL · 04/03/2014 14:44

thanks all. I feel like I'm sleep walking into co sleeping at the moment. Little girl is almost impossible to resettle in her cot after 5am so one of us ends up taking her into the spare room with us to sleep. she often ends up sleeping til gone 8am if we do this. I'm just worried that we're setting ourselves up for a problem later. Last night I got fed up with her and pulled her into bed with me at 3am and we both slept like angels til 7.30.

Sunny imo you have to do what you can to maximise sleep. Dd1 slept with me all the time until she was about 11 months, she then moved into her cot with no fuss. At 3 she never wants to sleep with me. Others will have different opinions but I think this stage is all about survival!!

SweetPeaPods · 04/03/2014 16:48

Happy belated birthday sunny!
Ds comes into our bed in early hours too. Only way we get to sleep past 4am. Need to address it soon before this baby arrives but I'm too tired just now!
Anyone having pancakes this evening? Not sure what to give ds. Don't think golden syrup with ice cream will win me any parenting awards!!

MadameJ · 04/03/2014 18:36

Poor dd is really struggling, one front tooth has popped but her gum is so swollen where the other is trying - poor baby :-(

SweetPeaPods · 04/03/2014 18:54

Bless her. Still no teeth come through here despite teething for past 4 months

Sunbeam18 · 04/03/2014 20:24

Sunny, one of us moves through to DS room at his first wake (between 12 and 2) and sleeps in the spare bed with him till morning (730, generally). Have been doing this for ages. Probably bad, but agree with Madame that whatever works...

RueDeWakening · 04/03/2014 20:27

M had pancakes for tea, he had chopped strawberries in 2 (they were mini-sized!) and some nutella in the other one :o

M normally comes in with us about 6am, depends on when he wakes up - he's sharing with DS1 now, so I tend to bring him through so as not to wake DS1 up (doesn't always work!).

I'm knackered today, was up with M till about 1am last night (teeth), then DH woke me up at 5am - he's come down with a stomach bug. 4/5 of the household is now asleep, tis just me and the Sewing Bee tonight.

MrsBri · 05/03/2014 06:42

No pancakes here. :-( DH forgot that he'd told me he'd buy eggs so I couldn't make them. We have eggs now though, so I'll make them at lunchtime today!

Good job I'm not a devout Christian using Shrove Tuesday in the way it 'should' be! I'm not giving anything up for Lent either...I'm pregnant and I'm not going to deny myself food, ha ha.

Back to work tomorrow. :-(

Amy has slept for 10 hours now (she squawked at 6 which is why I'm awake, but settled herself back to sleep). Longest sleep ever! I really hope this starts to be normal. I can but hope.

Mrs81 · 05/03/2014 07:39

Good luck with work tomorrow Mrsbri.

We're still resolutely on two wakenings and feeds a night. Sometimes more if he's feeling wonky.

Someone asked (days ago) about smear tests and bf-ing. It's fine, doesn't seem to matter when you go. The nurse didn't bat an eyelid when I went.

I am back at self-employed work now as much as ds allows. Which meant an hr of working at 6am before he woke up. But I feel brilliant to know that I don't need to try and do it at 9pm tonight when I'd rather be in bed/on sofa in a daze! Smile

AlohaMama · 05/03/2014 08:18

It was me Mrs81, but I'd forgotten I'd asked! Now I just need to book the appointment...

I'm impressed you're managing anything self-employed. I keep thinking I want to try to find contract work to do from home, but 2 weeks on I still haven't even managed to send out enquiry emails, how I'd find time to actually do any work I do not know!

Mrs81 · 05/03/2014 09:34

Don't be too impressed! I'm not really earning more than pennies at the moment. Like you, I need to do a fair chunk of "behind the scenes" to get work moving again.

Even if I'm physically tired first thing I usually think quite clearly so I'm going to try and fit in a bit of desk work each day before ds wakes. It won't always happen but at least I can chip away at it and it won't haunt me in the evenings when I'm too done in and it would take twice as long.

rrreow · 05/03/2014 10:22

Oh my god this thread has 8 pages already!! I'm quite behind. We've been on holiday in the US pretty much all of February. It was AMAZING. We rented a campervan which I'd highly recommend if you're going to the US with 2 small kids. I wrote a blog post with pictures if you'd like to have a look.

Z slept SO well while on holiday. Still waking up in the night for feeds, but only that, and it seemed to coincide with my own sleeping pattern so I was well rested all through the holiday (except the jetlag of course). However, now we're back home... not so much anymore. He just won't sleep properly. Goes to bed alright, but then doesn't want to sleep once we go to sleep, keeps crying, tossing, kicking. He's been a bit under the weather so at first I thought it was that, but it's literally been every single night since we've been back. I really don't understand what it is that made him sleep well on holiday, but badly back home. GRR!!! [tears hair out in frustration smiley]

Does anyone here use the ALDI Mamia brand of nappies? Anyone using size 4+ or 5 who could send me 3 or 4 nappies? Smile Our ALDI is quite far away so it would be a bit of a trek to go there and not bulk buy, but I don't want to bulk buy unless I know the nappies work for us.

curlyclaz13 · 05/03/2014 10:30

It's my last day of ml today as well, supposed to be taking osk to nursery after his nap but he isn't interested in sleep so will have to take him anyway ! Hopefully he won't get too upset and will sleep there. I am dreading work.

pinkbear82 · 05/03/2014 10:59

Good luck with work tomorrow ladies, I really need to get my bum in gear and sort out what I am going to do. I really don't want to go back, but know I should for the money. I'd love to do something from home, but never find the time to sort something out.

No aldi nappies here, but I hear a lot of people say they are very good. I did use some lidle ones and they were fine, certainly no more leaks or anything. that useless info is incase aldi and lidle are in anyway similar

We've had the first tooth break through here this week, today came the pain while bf OUCH!

Dd is currently having her nap, and have managed to put her in her cot for it, I'm doing, nothing! It's quite nice. Won't last, should really sort the kitchen, or garden, or something, but nothing is nice for 10 min

rrreow · 05/03/2014 11:05

You're totally allowed to do nothing for a bit pink! I always have the same thing, if I ever sit down I feel I should be doing something, but relaxing is important which I have to keep telling myself.

Congrats on the first tooth! Z is working on his third at the moment. I found that when a tooth breaks through it temporarily affects their latch and then it goes back to normal as they adjust. We're going through an uncomfortable latch phase too at the moment.

SweetPeaPods · 05/03/2014 12:04

I'm doing the same, DS went for nap at 11.15 and I'm still sitting on the sofa! Morning sickness has kicked in though so that's my excuse!

AlohaMama · 05/03/2014 13:21

Looks like a lovely holiday rrreow.

Take it easy sweetpea, I can't even begin to imagine dealing with ms right now.

Right, I've finally got off my butt and attempted to re-embrace cloth nappies. used with ds, then have had major leak issues with dd so have only used sporadically. Have finally decided the old ones are dead and re-invested in a new stash. Here's to lots more laundry...

Sunbeam18 · 07/03/2014 07:57

Where have you all gone?

MaryWestmacott · 07/03/2014 08:09

Sunbeam - here!

Sunny - we're basically co-sleeping too, DD comes in any time between 2am and 5am - but once she's back in our bed she's back asleep within 5 minutes, in her own room, it's a 30+ minute task, I need my sleep too much to care about a rod for my own back.

I'm going into work on Monday to discuss return to work and hopefully ask if I can take a few extra months unpaid leave - I'll make a loss with both DS and DD in nursery so it makes sense to take as much time off as possible to get towards DS starting school in September (god that's flown!!!) - at which point I'll make a grand total of £400 a month

I'm feeling really stressed about DS's school place, I don't find out until April, and I have a CM for him and a nursery place for DD lined up for his first choice school, both allow me to drop and get to the station in time for my train. However, if DS gets another school, I'll have to use a different CM, which might mean I can't get him there, then DD to nursery and me to the station for 8:03am, so I'd have to use a different nursery for DD, I don't want to get her settled in one nursery in May (assuming I don't get extra time off) just to move her in September, but April to May is not long to find alternative childcare for DD if DS doesn't get his first choice...

and then throw into all that, DH has just been contacted by a headhunter for a contracting role, it's at a daily rate which equates to nearly double his current base wage, so of course I've told him to go for it, but then he won't be able to do pick up from nursery and it's insecure work being a contractor, although technically we could afford for me not to work, I feel I should if he's not got a secure job. (even though it's a 2 year contract, it's still possible for it to be cancelled at any time and I remember the week that Lehmans went, HSBC called in all their contracters, told them they were taking a 20% daily rate cut or having their contracts cancelled there and then, and I believe Bank of America and Bank of Canada did just cancel all contracts that first Monday - although hired back most people within the month, it's not secure income...) AHHH!!!

RueDeWakening · 07/03/2014 12:06

Ooh Mary what a stress! We're waiting to hear about DS1's school place too, although he should get in as a sibling... last year 2/3 of places went to siblings, and I know there are more siblings due to start this year - and we're about the furthest away from the school unless people have moved since DD was admitted.

Aloha how are the nappies going? I have to say I've given up on them for M, we used them 24/7 with DD, then daytime only with DS1, I think M has used them about 5 times. Ho hum. My washer will thank me though, I can't believe how much washing 5 people produce compared to 4.

M had his 9 month check (aka 6-12 month check, apparently Hmm) this morning and passed with flying colours. He's on the chunky side (91st centile for weight & head circ, 75th centile for height) and doing everything expected of him except banging the lady's silly blocks together - he'd much rather eat them :o pesky teeth!

On the teeth front, we had 2 more cut last night, so now have 8 Shock hopefully that's it for a while though!

SweetPeaPods · 07/03/2014 16:41

8 wow! Still none here but I'm sure he's teething ATM. Gone off his food etc so something's not right.
Mary what a nightmare!

SunnyL · 07/03/2014 21:06

My 9 month old child has done something to my iPad keyboard today which I can't work out how to change it back. Then when my back was turned the little ratbag tried to upload a photo of herself to Facebook! Flipping 21st century baby.

I think we're also cutting a couple more teeth this week which will take her up to 8. 6 on top though which makes her look a bit like a shark Grin

sunny Oscar has already uploaded a picture of himself to Facebook ! He has a selection of selfies too !
We are knackered and I only done two days in work and I still have tomorrow to go, but at least OH is at home with shorty so he should be more settled. I think he has been ok at nursery and his Grandparents though but I miss him so much and expressing is a faff, dragging all the stuff to and fro and I get the train Saturday. Oh well not much I can do about it !
