Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

All these walking babies! DD isn't showing signs of walking anytime soon. The HV said she'd probably walk later due to her size. Suits me! Still no teeth here either though they've been bothering her for months and months!

We're going away soon. We're going BA too - business class (not paid for by us!) - which on one hand is great due to the extra space but on the other hand I'll feel extra pressure to keep her quiet. If the worst comes to the worst I'll have to get my boob out. I'm lucky to still have that option, I don't know what I'll do when I stop! I'm not looking forward to the holiday like I would have done pre-children. DD has slept through for months and I'm worried about disrupting that.

MaryWestmacott · 29/06/2014 08:03

oh, we're only going to Majorca for a cheap and cheerful week. (The decision to be a SAHM and yet pay for DS's preschool rather than sending him to the free one that had a crap ofsted has rather broken us this year!) No upgrade option, just a package holiday, but at least we have 3 seats between us. DS has the window and is terribly excited. I'm tempted to put DD in a plastic armed bib for the flight, as I'm fully expecting her to throw up...

Hedge - DS took a few first steps on his first birthday (nicely infront of everyone!) then didnt walk again until 15 months. Unfortunately, he was running before 16 months! Shock I really wasn't expecting DD to do it this small.

BeanCalledPickle · 29/06/2014 08:28

We are in majorca now! Had great week! Where are you staying? We are in a villa in Pollenca. Has been great. We didn't adjust time zones so have been able to eat out at seven, then put her to bed 9-9 while enjoying wine on the terrace!

We paid for business on the plane on the basis this will never happen again. We will have her in a seat next time and if we have another baby still have the row to ourselves. That was what we hated the idea of, someone on the end to have to ask to move all the time.

Holidays just not the same now. Haven't climbed the mountains here, just looked at them! Today flight is at 440 and we have to leave at eleven. So we are driving the very long way to the airport to try and get a nap out of her and then probably going to ikea for lunch as predictable food near airport!

MaryWestmacott · 29/06/2014 08:34

No idea where I'm staying! I left it all to DH, I know I've got an AI package - so I'm not cooking or running round! i was hoping to keep times the same, but am worried that DS won't let us, I think he's going in the kids club (I hope so!), so we'll probably have to be up and dressed early...

Holidays are so different these days aren't they???

hedgehogy · 29/06/2014 09:50

You've reminded me to pack extra clothes in the hand luggage, Mary. DD has been travel sick a couple of times in the past few months. Have now learnt not to put her in her proper outfit before we leave the house (after she ended up attending a party in a sleepsuit instead of her party dress)!

Mary, how cute that your DS did that just for his birthday. The HV did say that when she starts to walk she'll probably really go for it straight away...

Glad you've had a good week, Bean. We're going to be staying in a villa too. We're happy to eat earlier/ stay in to keep DD to her routine but as we're going with other family they might not feel the same. She is never her usual self when in a different environment (ie when we stay with family) so I don't know how it's going to go. We're going for a couple of weeks so although she'll have time to get used to it I hope it doesn't affect her when we get back home. We will have babysitters for the first time since she was born (though we're sad and prefer staying in!).

BeanCalledPickle · 29/06/2014 09:55

If you are going AI then I strongly recommend you bring Tupperware boxes. Friends have done it and the kids have refused to eat in the restaurant. Technically you aren't meant to take food away but this way it looks like you've brought stuff with you and are just taking it away again.

Villa is brilliant- have you got a washing machine? That cuts down on the need to take everything you own with you! Dried fruit and snacks for the plane. And a change of clothes for everyone!

hedgehogy · 29/06/2014 11:43

That's a good point Bean - totally forgot about a change of clothes for us. I attended previously mentioned party covered in sick! Blush

Yes, we will have a washing machine which will come in very handy. We'll probably still take loads though as the luggage allowance is very generous (two 32kg cases each plus baby has her own allowance) and various people have bought DD lovely holiday clothes. Though I think we'll only take one case each as we have to be able to manage it all too!

HungryHorace · 29/06/2014 13:18

Mary, DD has huuuuuuge feet...4.5G just before her birthday. Mummy has massive feet too though, so it's no surprise!

We've had a few instances of 1-2 steps, but she's still over thinking her next move. Once she stops thinking about it, she'll be off (I predict somewhere around 37-38 weeks' pregnant for me!).

I'm thinking we may do a cheap deal while I'm on mat leave and see what holiday we can get with just a few days' notice. Would be nice to get away. Probably late September.

DD loves clapping. She's been doing it for a good few months. At least she seems to have stopped clapping us round the face as a friendly welcome now.

Biting is all the rage now...I can tell you that having your big toe chomped on isn't pleasant!

BeanCalledPickle · 29/06/2014 14:16

Ha we used to have a rule on holiday, if you can't carry it you don't take it. Seems unfair to impose that on polly! I used to love travelling but it's way stressful now. Will she sleep on the plane or worse, won't she?!

I'm also slightly horrified at the cost of short haul. We'd go to a Thai beach and spend a couple hundred quid on a bungalow and fifty quid on food for the week. Here it's 1k for the villa and we've spent so much on food. And people everywhere! I reckon two weeks long haul could end up cheaper once all is said and done cost wise!

hedgehogy · 29/06/2014 15:00

I agree on the cost, it's ridiculously expensive. Our villa alone is around 2k (for two weeks) as we're going at peak time. It'll be amazing though - we stayed in an identical one (in a different location in the Algarve) a few years back and it was absolutely lovely, with private pool and grounds etc. As you say, with flights, meals etc on top you could easily have had a long haul holiday.

SunnyL · 30/06/2014 07:33

All these lovely foreign holidays. I'm kind of jealous but the thought of trying to pin Lily down on a plane for 3 hours is enough to put me off. We're staycationing this year with a cottage with friends up near Skye.

Last night hurt though. I can only assume it was teeth but Lily was up from 12.30-2am crying her eyes out while I tried to shush her. She's slept through since March so it was a shock to the system to be wandering the landing again. Plus she's gotten a lot heavier than last time I did that!

hedgehogy · 30/06/2014 07:59

Sounds lovely Sunny. I think our flight is only a couple of hours but I am not looking forward to the heat. My kindle is loaded with books, however I probably won't have much of a chance to read them as although we'll have the grandparents there who'll really want to babysit (as they don't see DD very often), DD always wants me (plus I'll be itching to keep an eye on her myself with the hard villa floors and pool etc).

DD only has one proper word (with two versions depending on how upset she is!), but it can be constant - mama, mum mum - until she gets me. So I can't see me having much of a break!

Poor Lily (and you). DD has a cold so she woke up once but luckily went back to sleep ok. It's amazing not having to feed her if she wakes up - so glad those days are long behind us! It is still a shock to the system though to have to get up - she's been sleeping through for a long time now.

DD has her MMR this week - have any other babies had it yet? Any side effects?

Sunbeam18 · 30/06/2014 09:30

Those holidays sound amazing. I'm hoping we can get away at some point over the next month or so, not booked yet.
Is anyone else's child not yet sleeping through the night? There is lots of talk of these days being long in the past, but they are still very much current for us. DS still always wakes once, usually between 1am and 2am. We have had 3 nights in his life that he has slept through...

Mrs81 · 30/06/2014 09:49

Sob. We don't have sleeping through either Sad At best, we have 1-2 wakenings. At worst (thank you teeth) I lose count. And he still feeds during the night. Gah.

Also, to add insult to injury, DS has stopped settling for DH. So I've been doing them all for months. I know we need to break that habit pronto.

Heeeelllllp!!!!

HungryHorace · 30/06/2014 10:25

DD sleeps through unless her teeth are bad / she's snotty from teething. She has started battling at the going to bed end of it though, which is frustrating. Thankfully it's not every time.

And quite often she'll squawk in her sleep, so we wake even though she doesn't. Helpful! :-/

We normally get 10-11 ish hours out of her. Only had a couple of 12s, but she generally naps well (again, ignoring teething days).

No adverse MMR reaction here, though they say any illness takes 6-10 days to appear. She was grumpy (but also teething) for a day or so though.

SunnyL · 30/06/2014 10:49

Oh I'm sorry I wasn't trying to brag about the sleep. She was a terror at sleeping up until 9 months and its amazing how quickly you forget the pain of waking in the night with them.

We had the MMR last week and so far no bad reactions but it can be up to 3 weeks after they might experience a reaction.

hedgehogy · 30/06/2014 14:41

Oh no, sorry sunbeam and Mrs Sad , I'd hoped it'd be the same for all of us now.

We get the same amount, Hungry, also with a decent nap or two during the day. I usually wake up at 6am no matter what time DD wakes up. How many weeks are you now? How've you been feeling and are you still managing to sleep ok?

DD's nose is running constantly. Nice.

Thanks for the responses re MMR.

HungryHorace · 30/06/2014 15:25

Is it teething, hayfever or a cold, Hedgehogy? Or none of the above?

DD generally naps quite well. Not so much today though, but it's those bloody teeth again. :-/

I'm almost 35 weeks now and massive! I'm not too bad, mostly exhausted, and I've got pelvic pain too, which limits movement a touch. Sleep isn't great at all, to be honest. Only going to get worse though! I'm feeling fine in myself, which is a good thing.

hedgehogy · 30/06/2014 15:43

I thought it was a cold. But it could be teething, now you mention it. With previous colds she's just been bunged up. This time, although she's a little congested there's just a constant stream of (tmi) clear snot.

Not long to go! I'm glad you're feeling well in yourself. The pelvic pain must be a nightmare, having a little one to look after. I can remember struggling to sleep. Although the newborn days were really tough, sleep-wise, I can remember thinking that I was sleeping better than when I was heavily pregnant!

HungryHorace · 30/06/2014 17:20

Clear snot sounds like teething snot to me! Isn't it great that in a year we've become nigh on experts in poo and snot, plus other delightful things like that?!

We've got a grumpy madam today. Joy. It's very tiring dealing with a small person who just grumps around!

I may be getting a 38 week ELCS because of the pelvic pain. I'm booked for 39 at present. Though 38 scares me as I'm really not ready yet!

Sunbeam18 · 30/06/2014 19:30

It's ok, I know nobody was bragging re sleep! I'm glad that we can (hopefully) look forward to joining you in a full night of sleep at some point. It has to happen!!! Sorry you are still having trouble too, Mrs. We'll get there eventually!

hedgehogy · 30/06/2014 20:10

That's good then, I don't want to catch another cold! Lovely, isn't it!

Wow, so you really don't have long to go then! I wonder how DC2 will compare, weight-wise. I'm definitely opting for an ELCS next time (apparently no problem at our hospital if you've had a previous ELCS - I've never gone into labour, so the next one would be like a first time labour) as DD was 9lb 10 at 39 weeks - even though they told me I'd have an average sized baby due to my size - and they're supposed to get bigger!

They do all get there themselves eventually, sunbeam. It was only a couple of months ago that DD would only nap on me during the day; one day she just decided herself that she would sleep in her cot, and has been fine ever since.

HungryHorace · 30/06/2014 20:18

I think the word is hefty!

The consultant said 'a good size' when palpating at 31 weeks. My MW says 'going to be big'.

DD was 9lbs 7oz at 40 weeks. I think this one will be the same at an earlier gestation. My MW friend thinks slightly heavier.

And nobody has argued that I should VBAC, thankfully! If baby stays breech then it wouldn't be an option anyway!

hedgehogy · 30/06/2014 20:32

Ha, that's the word! I couldn't get over how big DD's head was (though being breech meant that it didn't look squashed like they usually do)!

That's good that no one argued for VBAC. A friend had an ELCS for a breech baby before me and they agreed to another ELCS with no argument a couple of years later (much to my relief - I shouldn't read so many threads on here).

Mrs81 · 30/06/2014 21:38

Thanks Sunbeam Smile I blame teeth at the moment. He is still sporting a blister on his gum where a molar is imminent.

So I really don't blame him for waking more and being more clingy.
But this not settling for DH thing is a bit of a bind. DS sometimes ends up in our bed during particularly bad spells and it means that I literally spend 20+hrs out of 24 with DS. It's a good job he's jolly lovely!

Hope tonight is ok for all...
