Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

I think the hormones make us forget, else we'd never do it more than once!

I'm dreading the sleepless nights, but I'm sure we will cope. Like last time! Maybe I'll be lucky and get a sleeper this time?!

Straight back on the contraceptive injection for me at the 6 week check up. Two is plenty of children! :-)

BeanCalledPickle · 20/06/2014 10:08

Ha, well I work four days a week and DH does the same so we each have a day off with her in the week. So equal time with her in that respect. Because he took nine weeks paternity leave she's very happy with him and I don't feel like the primary parent at all. So we each tend to go out at least one night a week. And for a run/ cycle/ yoga/ gym session another night. When I'm at work I'm surrounded by young enthusiastic people who don't want to talk baby so it's a total break. I stopped breast feeding at ten months so not tied down in that respect either.

I like watching tv and reading on the commute and taking the occasional day off work when she's in nursery to do stuff as well. It's great! I don't feel like she consumes every waking moment anymore and that makes me enjoy my time with her when it's our day off.

So yeah, feel like I'm back to myself a fair bit!

Mrs81 · 20/06/2014 10:30

That sounds like a brilliant balance Bean and one that works well for your family Grin

DH works full time and I work v part time at the mo, plus I still bf at bedtime/night. It works for us but occassionally I yearn for doing something of an evening that doesn't involve a baby monitor.

A non baby question (Shock ) for you lot:
This interview is for a job in a big organisation where I would be there in very much a professional role BUT when I'm doing that job it would actually be considered v weird for me to wear a suit. Appearing professional yet approachable is the look, if that makes sense? So, what to wear to interview?

HungryHorace · 20/06/2014 11:01

Wear a suit but with a more casual top rather than a blouse?

When is the interview? Good luck!

DH is really the primary carer for DD as he does most of the caring as I'm too huge (and in too much pain, bloody pelvis!) to run around after her! He also had her full time while I was at work.

We could go out if we fancied it as PiL could babysit. But we don't, as I'm knackered! The choice will be there once we want it though.

DH is going to finish my mat leave this time too, so will get about 14 weeks' pat leave once I'm back at work. He loves looking after DD, so fingers crossed he enjoys two as much!

Mrs81 · 20/06/2014 11:20

Darn. I thought that would be the answer! I feel a shopping trip on the the horizon. I've lost 1/2 a stone below my pre pregnancy weight and so most of my smart trousers etc look too big. Added to that, I'm a short arse, and I look like I'm playing at dress up Blush if I'm not careful.

Interview is not for a couple of weeks. So plenty of time, but I don't want to be fretting about this sort of thing at the 11th hour!

Are you back on mat leave now Hungry?

SunnyL · 20/06/2014 11:23

the work life balance thing is kind of working for mw but because DH works shifts I don't get out as much in the evenings as I used to. Once she is in bed at 7.30 its pretty boring being stuck in the house on my own so I keep myself amused with sewing projects. Wish I could go to the gym or the pub with the baby monitor though.

For a professional look that isn't a suit I suggest a good shift dress. You can dress it up with a jacket and heels or tone it down with flats and a cardi. Smile

I'm on annual leave for now, then mat leave in a few weeks' time. So glad I'm finished though as it's exhausting when you already have a small person at home.

I like the dress idea. :-) Sounds like a great idea.

Well done on the weight loss too, mrs...next year is my get my figure back year!

BeanCalledPickle · 20/06/2014 14:16

Paternity leave is a bloody wonderful idea. Have no idea why more people don't do it. It's so much easier going back to work when you are leaving the baby with their dad. And then when it comes to nursery etc much easier to leave them as they are used to being with different people. Apparently only 1% of eligible dad's take advantage of it but it's a great thing. The only thing is that everything is set up for mums so DH was a bit bored. The way round that was to sign him up for various classes. He didn't go to groups as there is rarely a man seen at most of them!

HungryHorace · 20/06/2014 14:32

DH has been doing a cooking course these last few weeks and may go to another one as well. :-)

He didn't tend to do anything organised, but he loves playing with DD, or will take her to his parents' house. Just faffs really!

He loves doing the caring and as I'm the higher earner it makes sense this way round. I appreciate it's not for everyone, but it works for us.

Mrs81 · 20/06/2014 19:55

Rightyho. My bank card has just taken a hammering and there are an assortment of possible dresses winging their way to me! Thank you Sunny for your brainwave - a smart dress should work well. Plus, it has a greater chance of being useful again.

Happy weekends one and all : ) Hope you have a good one x

RueDeWakening · 20/06/2014 21:01

Any ideas when teething ends? I think M might be getting addicted to ibuprofen...

Glad everyone seems to be finding their groove though, we're not doing too badly either although I'd quite like a bit more time for me that isn't in the evening when I'm knackered and don't want to do anything other than veg.

DS1 had his meet the teacher morning at school this week, he's so excited and raring to start, which will be nice because I'll at least get nap time to myself!

HungryHorace · 20/06/2014 22:14

Teething? Never. At least M has a load of them. We're only just getting 3 and 4, but DD is in a terrible state tonight so I'm wondering if number 5 (and maybe more) is coming too.

Glad DS1 enjoyed today. Great that he's raring to go!

RueDeWakening · 20/06/2014 22:27

It does go in phases I find. He's cut the outside edges of teeth 9 & 10, but the inside edges and the middle bit aren't through yet. The bottom ones are probably moving around too, damn them...

SunnyL · 21/06/2014 07:12

Lil is teething this week as well. She's got a couple of big molars coming through and her gums are all white over them. Clearly its causing her grief given how many random things she's biting - the chair, the see-saw, clothes pegs mummy. I think I need to buy those biccipeg biscuits for her.

Mrs81 · 21/06/2014 20:46

We are joining in the teething hell also Sad DS has a blood blister (or a bruise?) on his gum where a tooth is making an escape. It looks so sore. Thus far this evening we have had 4 wake ups, paracetamol and ibuprofen... My Wine may become Brew !!

HungryHorace · 23/06/2014 04:45

My baby girl is 1 today sobs How the hell did that happen?!

I didn't realise how much of a 'time sponge' she'd be when she was born!

Absolutely loved the last year though, give or take some stressful moments, so I'm really looking forward to the next one and our increasing family!

SunnyL · 23/06/2014 22:23

Grrr effing DH. I've lost something so just went crawling under the bed where I found Lils bottle lying next to his leatherman knife. He didn't think to move a stupidly sharp lethal fucking knife from where our daughter plays.

Sorry just want to vent somewhere Angry Angry Angry

SunnyL · 25/06/2014 07:45

Aaaaaaaaaaaaa she's walking. First steps yesterday at nursery. so I've missed the first crawl by being at work and now her first steps. Her first words better be Mama or I'm going to have to quit work Grin

Sunbeam18 · 25/06/2014 13:02

My baby is one today!!!! How did that happen so quickly??

Mrs81 · 25/06/2014 18:44

Hope you've had a good day Sunbeam Smile The year has gone so so fast hasn't it!

Sunny - that's amazing re walking. But Sad that you missed the first steps. Someone wiser than I once said to me that the firsts that matter are the ones that you share with your

LO. Afterall, who knows what they get up to when nobody's watching!

Took DS to softplay today. He had a brilliant time and slept all the way home again. Was slightly Hmm at the mum who exlaimed at how tiny DS is (he's not thaaaat little) but otherwise was a jolly day.

RueDeWakening · 25/06/2014 20:21

M has finally learnt how to clap - he's giving everyone and everything a round of applause :o

Hope you've had a lovely day sunbeam!

SunnyL · 26/06/2014 19:00

Yes it was lovely to see. Next time I'll tell nursery to just keep schtum so I can see it for myself.

I love the clapping. always seems to come out though when she's got a handful of yoghurt though! Thank god I've got a dog otherwise I'd have to do a lot more cleaning Wink

AlohaMama · 28/06/2014 12:45

That's great Sunny. I thought a lot of nurseries had a policy to not mention those firsts. If it was me I'd rather not know I think, as it's only a first if you're there with them! In the same way if the dc do a 'first' with dh it doesn't count till I see it!!

Any tips on how to quieten a REALLY LOUD baby? Not crying, just shouting ya-ya-ya. Really loudly. All day. Can't wait till she has words as I'm assuming it's a frustration thing. Whatever it is my ears are ringing.

MaryWestmacott · 28/06/2014 17:44

Sunny - as long as she's doing stuff and hitting her mile stones, it doesn't really matter if you see the firsts or not, just that you know she can do it (although bloody frustrating when everyone else has seen them do XYZ and you keep missing it!)

DD has got to the stage that she's not far off running! So steady on her feet now. I tried to buy her some shoes, but when we got htem measured, it seems Clarks and Startrite don't make shoes that small! She's so tiny, still in 9-12 months stuff (and is 13 months next week), her feet are apparently smaller than a 2 and 'proper shoes' start at 2.5. I've got some pre-walkers, but need to get her another pair as her current ones have a hole in the side.

In even more exciting news (hope not about to jinx it by mentioning it) she's sleeping soo much better! She's tends to be a bit up and down all evening, then sleeping from 10pm - 6am. I can cope on that. However, we're on holiday next week, which will obviously mean the sleeping will all be buggered up. Really not looking forward to taking her on a plane, she's not a good traveller...

BeanCalledPickle · 28/06/2014 21:35

Where are you going Mary? I paid to upgrade us on BA just to have a bit more room and less general misery!
