Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

We rarely get a daytime nap that lasts beyond 40 minutes, Sweet. It's tough.

RueDeWakening · 15/03/2014 22:04

Sympathy all round for the not-so-sleepy babies.

We're getting M coming in with us about 3am ish which pretty much keeps me awake from then on, he's awake for the day around 6.30, then he goes for a 2.5 or 3 hour nap about 10am, but I can't join him because I'm running round after the other 2/doing the preschool run (DH works at home so thankfully I can normally leave M in bed for that!).

I had a "lie in" this morning, until 8.45. But the hour of it that didn't include 5 people and a cat sharing the same bed Hmm included a running commentary on the number of poos DS1 had done, a request to go and wipe his bum, DD coming to ask if I would take them to the park today, then DH bringing M upstairs to find him a change of clothes after forgetting to put a bib on him for breakfast Hmm

You'd think I'd asked for the moon on a stick!

I FEEL HUMAN AGAIN!!

Sorry for shouting but I feel great. For some reason my insomnia got out of hand this week. I've had 3 days where I woke stupidly early and couldn't go back to sleep. Tuesday was 5.30 Wednesday was 4.30 then the worst was Friday which was 1.30. To make it worse Lily has had a bout of sleeping through to 6am so it was my one chance to catch up on 9 months of crap sleep.

But last night I slept for 10 hours! weeeeeeee Grin

Her teeth and a cough bothered her at 3am but DH took her into the spare room with him and they're both still asleep so hopefully he feels good too.

Hoping you ladies get that 1 night that restores you soon!

yay Sunny!

We're just coming out the other side of a week of illness, Took DD into London on the train on Monday to have a chat with work, and she threw up all over me, then spent the rest of hte day throwing up. I thought it was travel sickness, but then DH spent all of Tuesday throwing up.

Then DD got a cold, and I got a cold (which I still have), and we've had screaming and no sleep.

Thankfully, last night she slept from 10pm to 6am, so I'm praying we're out the other side.

She's started to sleep a little better since we re-introduced the 10pm feed, seems to suit her to have an extra snack then.

Rue- lie-ins require your door being shut and everyone being told that if mummy is woken before 9am you'll do your angry voice, including to DP...

curlyclaz13 · 16/03/2014 14:50

We have had two nights of only waking twice ! He is also less snuffly so fingers crossed we are over this cold.

rrreow · 17/03/2014 11:21

DS2 is waking every 2 hours like clockwork during the night currently. I have a horrible cold (the type that makes your sense of taste disappear, please kill me now). But I went to bed at 9pm last night and DH gave me the most amazing head rub soooooo it's not all bad.

Curly please send some of that good sleep juju this way. I want fewer wakeups!!

We're having another go potty training DS1. It's definitely going a lot better than at Christmas. Accidents tend to happen later in the day and he still won't poo on the toilet/potty. But he's actually occasionally telling us he needs to go (!!) and although he's in a nappy overnight, it's actually been dry in the morning 3 nights running so that's impressive. Not sure how to tackle the poo. I think he's scared of doing it on the toilet.

We went for a drive around Kent yesterday and enjoyed the amazing weather at Penshurst Place. I really recommend it, it's got a great adventure playground. And chickens.

rrreow · 17/03/2014 11:22

How did everyone else enjoy the amazing weather?

curlyclaz13 · 17/03/2014 12:20

I would if I could rrreow but we are back to waking 100000 times a night again. I am so tired and achey I just want sleep. Enjoyed the weather by doing a shed load of washing . Being a grown up is no fun !

MaryWestmacott · 17/03/2014 14:06

Rrreow - are you in Kent? (We are!)

Lovely sunshine, really enjoying being out with both DCs. Although DH had to work all weekend, it was rather lonely, it's really hard to find things to do on weekends on your own.

I've started selling off a few baby things, stuff DD has outgrown, seems we've definately made the "2, not 3" decision, so the baby bjorn and the baby nest have gone. Feels a bit final, but I don't think my body can do that again.

DD is currently playing a game of pulling clean washing off a pile and throwing it on the floor, then looking to me to pick it back up again, then giggling like a loon when I do, before throwing it back on the floor. Earlier, while we were out in the buggy, she was playing throwing off her hat and then laughing. There's something of a theme here...

Sunbeam18 · 17/03/2014 15:04

Lucky you lot with the sun! It's dull and chilly in Edinburgh this afternoon. We are the same at night, guys - last night a quick wake up at 1am and then a wake up at 5am that resulted in bf on and off till 730... I've started reading the Elizabeth Pantley book 'No Cry Sleep Solution' - it's supposed to be a third way between the controlled crying and the 'put up with it' methods. Anyone tried it?

SweetPeaPods · 17/03/2014 15:14

Sunbeam we have the book but not started reading it yet.
Def going to start as ds was awake at 12.15-1, then 3.30-5 last night. I'm exhausted.

rrreow · 17/03/2014 15:47

Mary We're in London, but trying to make the effort to go out on the weekends and explore the countryside a bit. I agree that being alone with 2 kids is hard work, I always go for the default options because anything else is so much effort. I think we're stopping at 2 as well, although DH hasn't wanted to get rid of any stuff yet.

Mrs81 · 17/03/2014 15:49

Sunbeam, we read the no cry sleep solution - it made a lot of sense to me - but generally ds has always woken because of reflux/teething/hunger/wind and has needed one of us to go to him anyway. But if your lo is basically just waking out of habit/for the heck of it then the book's tips should help Smile

Murky day here too, none of this Kentish warmth I hear of.

Do any of you use baby slings? If so, which ones?

rrreow · 17/03/2014 17:23

Mrs81 I have a Rose & Rebellion (it's a carrier with buckles) which I love. I originally used a woven wrap (the type that is just one big length of fabric) which I love as well, but while on holiday it was just so much quicker to use the R&R so I've carried on reaching for it every time I carry DS2.

This morning I had him on my back while I was loading the dishwasher, then later on I had him on my front when I went out. Absolutely love it. DH also uses it (he's a big guy and I'm fairly petite, but it fits fine on both of us and is quick to adjust). There are quite a few buckles carriers that are similar, but different ones will work for different people. I think it depends on where you like to have the weight distributed. If you have a sling library near you I'd highly recommend trying some out before you buy.

curlyclaz13 · 17/03/2014 17:28

mrs81 we have a woven, a mei tai and a ring sling. Each have benifits, ring sling for quick short trips, mei tai is easy and I have mastered back carries so I can do housework and the woven is really versatile but I have only used it for front carries.

SunnyL · 17/03/2014 17:36

We read the no cry book too. Every time I've decided to set a plan to fix her sleep though the little swine throws us a bone and sleeps through. This makes me re-evaluate whether I need to do anything and before you know it she's back to her usual wakeful self. I think she can secretly read Grin .

We've progressed to our life venture rucksack which is ace. its got a massive pocket so I can store all her gear and we can go out for the day. it was second hand so no idea how much they cost.

Mrs81 · 17/03/2014 17:53

Oh I like the look of the Rose Rebellion one. We have a wrap and a bjorn at the moment. The wrap was great when ds was tiny, now I would rather something a bit more structured. The bjorn I dislike because it makes my back ache almost immediately (I need the weight on my hips not shoulders) plus I keep hearing horror stories about the bjorn. DH manages much better with a sling with clips (the origami nature of the wrap was never a hit!). It could get quite addictive this sling malarky!!

AlohaMama · 17/03/2014 18:09

Have an ergo here, I did have a Boba G3 but sadly lost it Sad. Ergo is pretty much the same (soft with buckles), I love it, packs small, comfy, hubby uses it too.

Thanks for snack tips earlier. I've just made banana bran muffins, carrot and cheese muffins, and now just about to make the spinach and cheese ones all for the freezer.

Our sleep has been a bit disrupted the last few nights, not sure why. Just lots of moaning albeit while she seems to be asleep. Have calpoled her tonight in the hope it will help. Last night we were at DSIL which didn't help as as soon as she started fussing at 4.30am I fed her, to make sure she didn't wake up any of the other kids.

Good luck with the potty training rrreow. We're currently looking for a window of opportunity. Feel like I need to give it another go, as DS keeps not telling us when he's had a poo and if we're out and about and don't notice he gets really sore. Maybe pooping in his pants will remind him to tell us?!

BeanCalledPickle · 17/03/2014 18:58

Hello! So we have finally moved house! It has not been easy. On moving day went in to get Polly who was lying in a pile of thrown up broccoli and spaghetti. Brilliant. Washing machine on as removal men loading! Took her to a friends where she was out of sorts all day and when we got her here she threw up all over her father. Who went to have a shower and discovered that the boiler is broken. No hot water. So that will be a new boiler then. Then I go to cook the next day and the oven doesn't work. Text the seller. He said 'you didn't actually ask me if it worked'. So a new range cooker for a grand. Then the dishwasher won't start. Seller tells us it worked fine when he last used it. Which was apparently ten sodding years ago! So his failure to tell us about these things has added thousands to the cost of the house. Which is amazing and I know all this will fade in time but still, what an arsehole!

Mrs81 · 17/03/2014 19:19

Yippee for finally moving Bean Grin But Angry at the faff of all the things not working. Is there a grace period in England where the seller has some responsibilty for broken stuff? There is in Scotland-when we moved and the boiler died within a couple of days of getting entry, the sellers had to contribute £1000 towards a new one...

Hope Polly is better soon

AlohaMama · 17/03/2014 19:24

Bean, that's crap. Amazing they can get away with that. In the US you have to provide a really detailed disclosure giving all that information aobut condition of things, and then if stuff doesn't work or is not in the same condition then the seller is liable. It can be a bit silly - our buyer tried to charge us for paying people to come in and do the garden because he didn't think it was as tidy as when he came to view what with leaves having blown down off the trees in the 3 days between us vacating and him moving in Hmm. Still hope you get settled in soon.

RueDeWakening · 17/03/2014 21:41

I've got an Ellaroo Mei Tai, and a woven wrap. I used a Closer carrier to start with, but M was so huge that it lasted all of 5 minutes. I use the mei tai most, back carries when I need to keep M nearby but out of the way, mostly when I'm cooking and he's grumpy tbh.

Bean what a wanker your seller is! Hope everything else goes smoothly now you've moved :)

SweetPeaPods · 17/03/2014 22:12

Bean what a nightmare.
Interested in all the baby carrier talk. My friend gave me a carrier to borrow when ds was tiny but I didn't get on with it very well. Think I may need one when ds2 arrives though.

MrsBri · 18/03/2014 08:18

I've bought a Moby in anticipation of number 2's arrival, SweetPea. I'm hoping it'll help with two of them to cope with after a c section!

Amy has slept well the last couple of nights after a few rubbish nights due to teething / a virus. There's been quite a few puking babies around recently. She actually matched her personal best of 10 hours. No doubt it'll go to pot again tonight, or very soon.

I need to make some of those muffins. A weekend job for me as full time work with a not necessarily sleeping 8 month old whilst 20 weeks' pregnant is a killer! At least I'm enjoying work anyway. :-)

We think DH may actually qualify for paternity / additional paternity leave next time, which is good. Just need to check if he qualifies, but I'll be going back early next time, so it'll be useful if he does.

We are impatiently waiting for Amy to crawl properly. She can shift round the floor at speed, and rocks on all fours, but isn't quite there yet. Any time soon though. :-)

Most of you already have crawlers / standers by now I think though?

SweetPeaPods · 18/03/2014 08:43

We're still not properly crawling here. Think we'll be walking first!
