I've never given vitamins pear, have never thought about it to be honest or ever had a hv say anything, I feed them pretty healthy mind so I wouldn't particularly be inclined to
I don't think you need worry about the dioreah as long as he is well hydrated, 3 x isn't too bad in terms of having a bug mind you I might have just felt with a lot of poo recently lol
Hope you feel better soon and glad dh is giving you help

Lorelei353 · 21/02/2014 22:20

My hv kept telling me that there's a problem with babies not getting enough vitamin as there's so little sun and it's really difficult to get from food - or breast milk. The first bottle were free from the clinic.

Lorelei353 · 21/02/2014 22:27

vitamin d that is.

AGnu · 21/02/2014 22:56

That's really not as big an issue as they're being told to make out that it is Lor. Vit. D deficiency is really rare in this country & more common among people with darker skin. I'm assuming you don't spend all day every day cooped up inside... all you really need is a little sunlight from time to time. It's really unlikely to be a problem & I've been a bit wary of vitamins since reading some sensationalist articles on how vitamins might do more harm than good!

Oh vitamins are all the rage over here. It's recommended (and pounded into our brains) that babies should be supplemented with Vit D at birth as BM doesn't contain enough. I hate to contradict you, angu but Vit D deficiency is actually quite common and a lot of people are deficient due to the lack of outside time and the use of sunscreen as well as not taking in natural food sources (salmon, egg yolks, etc). Severe deficiency would cause rickets, but mild deficiencies cause a huge host of problems. It's something we check for through blood work and most women have very low levels. Vit D is essential for the absorption of many other vitamins and minerals, mood stability, bone strength, the nervous system, immunity, the list is quite long. Ultimately, natural vitamin D production that occurs through sunlight and getting sources through whole foods are the best, but due to the latitude that we live in, supplementation is pretty important (for those who are able to).

Oh dear pear sounds like the little guy is quite sick. Is he able to keep anything in?

OP posts:
AGnu · 22/02/2014 02:25

Oh, yes... I meant rickets! Blush My DDad's a clinical biochemist so I just rely on him for all medical knowledge. He says vits aren't important as long as you've got a healthy diet/lifestyle. Maybe his info is outdated though... He does seem to be spending more time telling the Drs how to do their jobs than he used to! Not so much time for reading journals anymore! Hmm

Lorelei353 · 22/02/2014 02:39

So it appears I now had DH's eye infection. Hmm

peardrop2 · 22/02/2014 02:51

Bring ~ Monday, Tuesday and Wed he was puking and Thur & Fri just bad nappies. He seems to have a bad nappy every couple of hours after a big feed (brek, lunch and tea). He just woke up starving since I was unable to produce tea (probably because I hadn't eaten for 24hrs). Feeling more human myself now. Phew!

AGnu · 22/02/2014 03:01

Glad you're on the mend pear! Not so glad that we're all up at this time... We've not even gone to bed yet! We've got a family party to attend 2.5 hours away tomorrow today & apparently that involves packing everything we own! Hmm DH has gone a little overboard! "Do you think we should take the pram chassis?" "Why? We've got a foldable buggy..." "Umm... Just in case?!" Confused I got a pretty dress out of it though so I'm biting my tongue! Wink

Lor have you/he tried breastmilk? I regularly have problems with my eyes & it's actually really soothing!

Right, tiny cute little shirt ironed, all the rest of my jobs ticked off - must finally be bedtime! Grin DH is still doing a few of his jobs but I don't care. He shouldn't have been looking at the sports news online earlier... He hates sports! Confused

Lorelei353 · 22/02/2014 04:35

Haven't tried breast milk yet as it only flared up at 2 and haven't had a chance. Used to work well on DS. Will get eye drops in the morning.

DS won't stay asleep. When will the snot end?

peardrop2 · 22/02/2014 06:35

I somehow missed your earlier post LOr Hmm poor you. Eye infections are the worst! Let us know if bm works! I don't know if I would be up for sprinkling bm in my eye Blush

peardrop2 · 22/02/2014 06:38

Agnu ~ Shock you iron baby clothes? I gave up on that along time ago!! I guess bpear doesn't have any shirts though! I hope you have a good time at this event and that you don't fall asleep in a corner clutching baby Wink

Lorelei353 · 22/02/2014 06:38

I'm going to get proper eye drops pear. They're working for DH.

kittykatsforever · 22/02/2014 07:43

Lor Hmm your all in the wars arnt you! I wonder if hv are pudding it in certain areas of the country based on sun exposure? Just we have never heard anything and I know non of my friends have ever mentioned it, I like the natural route so it seems we need another Holliday to make sure Grin
Pear you don't iron baby clothesShock lol I iron all the girls bar vests ( actually I do iron long sleeved) and socks and pants

kittykatsforever · 22/02/2014 07:45

I did get told to take vit d aswell as folic acid this pregnancy though and I always take the new mum ones when solely bf as I don't think my diet is as healthy as theirs lolBiscuit

peardrop2 · 22/02/2014 09:03

Kitty ~ maybe boys need less ironing Grin The first few washes I ironed all his sleep-suits and then I realised this was a lost cause!

Lor ~ I've heard mums say it has worked for them so FX for you! We have a Calpol plugin that works for us but I've also got vapour rub which I put on a little tissue and tie to the cot (where he can't access of coarse)

Frus ~ I think you will be pleased with it. I am pleased we got one. The straps are still fiddly though Hmm but kitty seems to get on with it. I know 2 ladies (inc kitty) who get on with straps and myself and a friend who don't so you'll either be in one camp or the other Wink

peardrop2 · 22/02/2014 14:05

Does anyone own a weaning bowl that actually sticks to the highchair? I brought this but bpear pulls it off with ease. Rubbish! m.mamasandpapas.com/search.php?q=Bowl#product-892601901
