I'm the same hop, DS bellows "JYOOOOOOHN" up the stairs, has been doing for months, much to DP's disgust. Mind you, if he did what I told him when I told him, I wouldn't have to yell so much and DS wouldn't copy me Wink

I think I'm possibly the only person in the world who doesn't like pancakes...I've tried, I've made savoury ones too, but there's just something I can't take.

Have now cleared the kitchen from the revelry of the weekend, all the glasses are hand washed and you can see the surfaces...which need a damn good clean down from all the pomegranate martinis/pomegranate cosmos we made Grin!

Sorry about the school allocation PTP, do you live in an area that's really over-subscribed?

And are you feeling OK aethel, is it general lurgy?

Figster · 04/03/2014 21:10

I must crow over my utter bargain today....new divan bed 1 picked out £300, almost bought it at last minute looked elsewhere online £75 cheaper at homebase BARGAIN!! Just hoping current bed doesn't give In while waiting 3 weeks for delivery. Grin new sofas and stair carpets next on the home improvement list

Aethelfleda · 04/03/2014 22:15

Just a cold northern, but not great timing. There is too much stuff going on for lurgies even of the minor sort.

Oh and I caught up with xiao today, she's back from her travels, doing well (I can't believe how grown up and smiley her DS2 is getting!) and the lovely girl got me a bag of Reeces Peanut Butter Cups. I luffs her, I does!

Aethelfleda · 04/03/2014 22:16

Ooh and well done on the bargain figgy! that's. £75 worth of fine wine and takeaway waiting to happen

Faffin · 04/03/2014 22:50

Ooh peanut butter cups! I've been meaning to make nigella's version of those for the last couple of years and never got round to it. Really pleased to hear Xiao is doing well

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 05/03/2014 09:24

Peanut butter cups

NO! STOP! Have given up eating chocolate for lent. Even though I'm an atheist.

Sorry you're feeling grim aethal, hope the lurgy pisses off soon. Glad xiao is OK.

Well done on the bargain bed figgy.

I made pancakes last night. Took me an hour and I got about 5 eatable ones out of the whole batch. I am not good with pancakes.

DS' third night in his bed did not go well. Took DH ages to get him down, then he woke up at midnight. I tried to get him down but managed to break the stairgate off the wall (SHEHULK SMASH!). So he woke up 15 minutes later and came toddling into our room and snuggled in bed with me. I didn't have the heart to boot him out, so DH just grumbled, rolled out of bed and went and slept in the spare room. I actually really liked having DS in the bed, he's so warm and squishy and kept snuffling into me and asking me to hold his hand. We're away this weekend, so I can see a lot of co-sleeping happening as I just can't be bothered spending half the night putting him back to bed just to have his sleep messed up by being away at the weekend. He seems to have got the hang of the duvet though.

Figster · 05/03/2014 14:10

My car went in for 2 tyres this morning, came out with 4 as they were All shagged!!! £420 lighter today with the £230 on the bed last Night it has been. An expensive 24 hours.

Hop when you are away from. Home i always think path of least resistance definitely just let him in. With you at. Weekend. Ds doesnt snuggle here just kicks and breathes on me Grin

Tonight we off to SIL as it is DN's 5th bday so we being fed, caked and even better afterwards we putting ds to bed at PiL ( they. Live nect door to each other) and going to see gravity at their local cinema. Last chance to see it on big Screen then DH staying at PIL as working there tomorrow anyway and I am coming home to have my bed to myself Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 05/03/2014 21:42

Oh heavens, same here figster, £200 on the car- brakes and brake pads. At least we weren't planning on doing anything this weekend except spend my garden centre voucher.... Do enjoy the cinema, let us know what you think of Gravity.

Really glad to hear xiao is back aethel, thanks for updating us. Let her know she's missed and we hope she's back on the thread soon! Know what you mean about not having time for even the mildest bit of unwellness... is it just work stuff or have the DCs got loads on too?

Am shattered, got a hideous job put on my desk at 5, so stayed til 6.45 to reacquaint myself with the case in order to bring joy and sunshine brief my boss on it on Friday. Will have to send him home with some reading over the weekend, he's going to love me. And I've got to get up early for a meeting in London tomorrow... Still, out with work for curry and drinks on Friday, should be good!

Aethelfleda · 05/03/2014 22:44

Ah, it's nothing, just a cold and various schoolthings to chivvy the DDs about. It's all fiiiine....

And puts on best Mr Morden voice: "What do you WANT"? .... Well, what do ya want?....

OiMissus · 05/03/2014 22:49

Sorry to hear about tyre-related mortgagery.
We expected to have to fork out for snow tyres so we could leave the house this year, - we're now hoping to get a better deal over the summer. Smile
All is well at Ashworth towers. No real news. Had a fab weekend with petting farm trip and then I had a night out with the ladies and lots of champagne. SmileGrinSmile
The Boi is definitely never allowed in our bed, according to DH. ...I love the snuggles. Hop, I'm jealous. My DH has never tried out the spare room. I'd much prefer to snuggle with Boi!
Oh and poo! AF arrived yesterday, perfectly on time. Grrrr!Hmm
So I suppose DH shouldn't use the spare room for a while, then!

Figster · 05/03/2014 22:59

Gravity looked amazing at the start I covered my hands around my glasses so had no peripheral vision and it was like I was there it deserves the plaudits on the visuals. Sandra bullock was a bit annoying though dh was actively wishing she would die Grin

Am home alone ......so so strange bet I still wake up at Stoopid o'clock hope DS behaves tonight when I'm not there I'm never in house without him.

Oi AF is on its way here too (not that we trying) dh says we have to wait until next year as can't afford 2 in childcare so can't get pg until next summer then with 9 months cooking and 7-8 months mat leave DS will start school......hmm we will see about that

Faffin · 06/03/2014 09:02

figgy you'll get 15 free hours childcare for DS from the term after he turns 3, so from next jan. Would that help at all if combined with you being on mat leave?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 06/03/2014 10:23

Ds stayed asleep, in his own bed, until 6.15 this morning! When he woke up DH went in and had a cuddle with him until the gro-clock said it was time to get up.

I have to go chair a meeting in a minute, but have already had loads of apologies so have a feeling it's going to be a short one. Then I've got a billion and one things to get done by this afternoon. Blurgh blurghy blurgh.

Aethelfleda · 06/03/2014 20:52

Zzzzzzzzzz

Can someone wake me up when Commander Sinclair develops some acting ability?

NorthernChinchilla · 06/03/2014 21:23

Ha! What about the early Star Trek Next Gen though, that took wooden into another dimension!

Had an interesting meeting in London today, and then had half an hour to kill waiting to hear if DP was going to be called out. Found the Borough Market, which had the Monmouth Coffee place- we'd had the coffee from there before, and it is a whole new level of luxury smooth stuff. Bought DP (and me!) a little bag as a treat, £6.50.... Blush

Our plans are exactly the same figster, it's a bummer but we just can't afford another £850 per month. We could hack it for a few months, and the reduction through DS having his free hours would help, but we just can't be spending unnecessary thousands on it Sad. Sounds like you've got plans just to make it happen though Wink

Anyone else read the 'Home Admin' thread and thought it horribly familiar...?

TheOnlySeven · 07/03/2014 09:56

Ugh, thrush, diarrhea and no sleep means I feel exceptionally awful today.

Childcare is so stupidly expensive. I gave up work when we had DS because I couldn't afford to go back. Makes no sense being better off not working though!

OP posts:
Aethelfleda · 07/03/2014 12:01

Yeah, I hear you seven, I'm lucky enough we could keep me going (albeit with a huge childcare bill) while I had two preschoolers. The mathematics are daft though: lots goes straight into childcare, and there is no point me working over a certain amount of part time because the childcare bill in afternoons/holidays is three times that in the mornings (and the only way around that is a nanny which is scary employing-people level and is a big fixed expense). I think I'm firmly in the part time worker camp for a good while yet, and totally see that unless you have professional-level salary the childcare rules out working totally unless you have some sort of free cover.

northern, linky to that admin thread, I can't find it!

OiMissus · 07/03/2014 12:08

ugh - home admin thread - I read the first page and last - horribly familiar.
DH has two jobs in the house that he must do: Bulbs (lights) and bins.
the kitchen bin is always overflowing, there are always bulbs that need replacing (I know of 5 at least at the moment). We work the same hours.
I do and/or decide everything else. It is incredibly wearing.
We have a cleaner for 2 hrs a week, but it's nowhere near enough.
I'm considering asking her to double her hours. It will be expensive, but it may help me to stop gritting my teeth the whole time.

In other news, we've had a simple, cheap potty lying around the house for ages, to create familiarity. BOi is not interested, and I don't blame him, it seems pretty uncomfy. I'd like to get one that attracts some kind of interest, dare I say novelty? there are plenty around, does anyone have any recommendations/advice? Also, nice toilet seat thingies too - any recommendations?

OiMissus · 07/03/2014 12:21

This looks like it's up to the task. :)

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 07/03/2014 13:14

Oi, we have a tommee tippe toilet seat that goes over the adult one, and a cheap plastic step stool from Ikea. DS likes to sit on the 'mummy daddy toilet' because 'imma big boy now mummy, not a baby'.

TheOnlySeven · 07/03/2014 15:00

I don't like novelty potties, though maybe it's just because I'm too tight to spend £30 when we've had no trouble using cheap ones. DD1 also prefers the toilet because she copies DS.

OP posts:
Figster · 07/03/2014 17:57

We have a frog shaped potty in DS room he literally couldn't give a shit about it, it's not on his radar at all anymore. When he's ready we going to do a couple days with potty and then go straight to toilet.

Had a friends 5yo round after school until her mum finished school by 5 they'd exhausted the whole toy stash and considering our house is like toys r us that is some achievement. DS room like a bombs gone off he's been up since 7.30 hoping that means early night for him and earlier wine for me Grin

Had a cuddle with other friends 6day old today was ok as not that actually bothered about newborns but did get wibbly over the tiny nappies Grin og course she got a present as did her older brother, tomorrow DS has DN's bday party and Sunday he has a bday party for twins he sees at CMs £50 in toys over last few days Confused between that, the £420 for tyres and the £230 for new bed (bought before full extent of tyre requirements were known) its been a bank breaking week. Dh starting new job 01st April can't come soon enough

ProfessionalKiller · 07/03/2014 18:01

I'm thinking about getting this oi. But am hoping to find one at a car boot Grin

ProfessionalKiller · 07/03/2014 18:04

Cross post with figgy. Ouch! Expensive week!

Aethelfleda · 07/03/2014 19:09

We've got a mamas and papas potty that did both the DDs (it's got a highish front so that little boys' winkies don't splash over the top!)
And two flip-down integral loo seats like this: (the linky one is a bit plasticky, our other one is made from sparkly mdf and is a lot nicer though it's £35 so twice the price...)

I'm waiting for the weather to turn so potty training is less painful (putting it off? Moi?)
