August 2005 - The One With All The Birthdays!!!

Here we are everyone, a new thread, as promised ready for all these little ones to turn one.

Here's the link to the old thread

Miaou, I was just thinking of doing the exact same thing the other day, so much better than a baby book, as it really does record all of the milestones as they happen.

Another milestone today, ds2's first visit to the dentist. He was ever so good he let the dentist look at his teeth, which his brother never did. In fact the dentist got his first look at ds1's teeth ever today and it was his fourth visit!

We're all set for his birthday tomorrow, but I'm tired, it's hard work having 2 birthdays in a week and DH is thirty 2 weeks today, TOO MANY BIRTHDAYS!!!!! We're having friends round for an afternoon barbecue (DH will be getting in touch with his inner caveman over an open fire ) and people are dropping in as and when. Just hope that his cake is OK when it's delivered tonight.

Let you all know how things went after the party.

suzi2 · 01/09/2006 20:19

erm - I can only think that was DS. But I'm quite impressed that he managed to press 'post message'? either that or I've leaned on the keyboard again!

PanicPants · 01/09/2006 21:34

lol suzi, can I have some of what you're drinking please?

suzi2 · 02/09/2006 07:46

sober as a judge - have to be with this little one in my tummy! Mind you, nappy brain and pregnancy brain are battling it out and I'm in serious danger of forgetting who I am

Nat777 · 02/09/2006 19:40

Well first day of no bottles and she refused to take any milk from her beaker (really dont get it!!) and to be honest she has been a pain all day because of this!

I did give her a bottle before bed as I didnt want to go completely cold turkey. Fingers crossed that tomorrow is a bit easier!

Nat777 · 03/09/2006 19:58

Because Missy is only having milk in the evening now (about 7oz) I am a bit concerned that she isnt getting everything she needs, hopefully she will get used to the beaker in the next few days but what should I be giving her to make up for it? Thx in advance

kipper22 · 04/09/2006 15:25

Hi all - happy birthday to all those little ones (and queenrollo!) I missed - hope everyone's day went really well. DShad a lovely time - we took hime to the farm on his irthday, then he had his party at my mum's at the weekend. I think he enjoyed it despite being pretty overwhelmed at seeing all the people he loves in one place! We have spent most of the school holidays visiting family and genereally enjoying as much sun as we could find. We've actually been really lucky - the only terrible rain was during the few days we spent at home for DH to get his school work done so we've managed to be out and about a fair bit and DS has loved every minute of it. Despite sun lotion, shade and hats he looks like a real blonde, tanned surfer dude now - as others have found, he's in desperate need of his first haircut but I'm finding the surfer look so cute! I'll post a photo when I've got his birthday ones developed (I'm still stuck in the middle ages with a film-camera I'm afraid!) I can't believe how he's developing since his birthday. He's gradually getting more stable on his feet and attempting to let go. He has a full range of sounds, little words and actions to impress us with (particularly the 'thankyou' when he gives us something!) and is just so confident now. Needless to say, he's a complete terror/maniac like many of the other DS's on here. Although he does exhaust me, I certainly wouldn't have him any other way!

Yesterday was my birthday. I don't think I've quite grown out of wanting people to celebrate with me I'm afraid! We were staying with my aunt and uncle so I was thoroughly spoiled - flowers, chocolate and bucks fizz in bed then a fry up and a nice long bath before we went out for a meal at the seaside. Ds had great fun helping me 'heave' (his word when he pulls things!) open my cards and rip the envelopes to shreds. So now it's all a sudden jolt back to normality, with DS going back to work today.

Nat - I do't really know if it would help, but maybe you could encourage missy to eat yoghurts or something cheese based? or even extra milky cereal? hth.

PanicPants · 04/09/2006 19:37

Nat, they are suposed to have about a pint of milk, but that includes milk in foods and on cereal. So if you make sure she has lots of dairy - yoghurt, milky cereal, cheese etc she will be fine.

Happy Birthday Kipper, you sound like you were really spoilt !!!

Yesterday James took his first little pidgeon steps! Only 4 consecative ones though!

bramblina · 04/09/2006 22:19

Happy birthday kipper! I've just reminded my sister I'm 30 this year and she mentioned it in an email. Seeing it written down makes it quite "real". However my other sister is 40 on Wednesday so I still feel quite young!

PP you really got an interesting thread going there with the MMR debate! Made interesting reading. Jaxon also took his first 3 steps yesterday...for dh and bil still being away so much I think he's due that. He also had his last breast feed today (ds, not dh ) and I'm feeling a little .

Miaou, how are you getting on with the house hunt?

Dazie · 05/09/2006 10:59

Hi all
the holidays are over and Im already missing ds1! being back in a routine is great though.

We have been to clarks to buy ds2 his first pair of shoes which are very cute, they look so huge on his little feet. Unfotunetly it took him about two seconds to work out how to take them off!!

We have had our MMR and Pne booster appointment through not looking forward to this!

On the cows milk thing I did the same as pp, I didnt give in and Ds2 loves it now!

Nat777 · 05/09/2006 11:09

Thanks for the advice everyone, really appreciate it. Missy loves cows milk and drank it all day happily from her bottle, but wont take it from her beaker. I am on day 4 and she still wont take it from her beaker. Its not the cows milk that is a problem, it is no bottles that she doesnt like.

But she is going through about 8 beakers of squash or water a day now! Where as before she only drank it when eating, now her juice beaker is her best friend and she takes it everywhere and is always slurping on it!

Just booked MMR for the 15th Sept. Bramblina/PP where is the MMR thread? Thx

Miaou · 05/09/2006 12:47

Gosh I haven't been on this thread in AGES - sorry folks! We have got a new house now, about 30 miles away, and are moving on 1st Oct, so are in the throes of packing just now. Ds is totally unconcerned, dd1 is fairly happy, but dd2 is not coping too well, poor wee soul . We have had two wet beds and a lot of destructive behaviour this past week.

Ds is coming on beautifully. He can now cruise quite happily round the furniture and "power crawls" everywhere else - ie at top speed! He loves to climb but is thankfully quite calculated and careful about it and rarely takes any tumbles (though he is sporting an impressive bruise on his forehead just now ). He and the dds have a great game - they take turns at trying to stand behind him out of his sight whilst he whips round and tries to spot them before they move - cue giggles and shrieks of laughter all round! He has about 15 words now and will try to repeat most things if he is in the mood, and babbles incessantly (sounds suspiciously like Morph to me ). He's got three teeth (that's all!) but that doesn't stop him eating the same foods as us. This has been a big success story for us - the dds were terribly picky eaters and struggled with lumps etc - fortunately ds eats anything and everything.

Sleep is still a bit of an issue - on holiday he didn't sleep during the day as we were out and about all the time, but he slept through at night (and I got used to feeling human again!). He is back to feeding during the night again now (grr - my own fault though) - so dh and I are getting tough and not feeding him at night now (not that dh did, I'm still bfing!!). When we move he is going into his own room and the dds will share again - hopefully that will help with the sleep thing.

Now going to read up on everyone else's news!!

josey · 05/09/2006 18:39

Hi all
DDs birthday went off well and she is still in shock i think with all the attention and the cards and pressies still coming through the door, we were away for the weekend child free on Friday to go and see Robbie Williams then a rather tense family celebration for my Grans 80th we havent spoken to some of our family for 16years so im so glad its all over with!!!

Congrats on the new house maiou hope your dd settles soon.

Nat is your dds juice beaker the same as her milk beaker? i had problems with dd as she couldnt work the ones we had we bought other ones that i had for my ds and there is no stopping her now i have a pale pink for juice/water and a dark pink for her milk.

im laughing at the 1 pint aday i go through 12 pints in a week

bramblina · 05/09/2006 19:45

Nat, |link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=138&threadid=209276&stamp=060905193756\here} is the link. It's very interesting. This was PP's post, there was one before but I didn't see it. HTH
Great news, Miaou, but sorry about your poor dd2.
I thought on sunday I'd try ds without a bottle for his cow's milk and put the beaker top on the bottle, he was having none of it and I had to put the teat back on. I'm not one for going cold turkey. I just shouldn't have introduced the bl**dy bottle in the first place! Oh well you live and learn!

bramblina · 05/09/2006 19:46

Ahhh!
here!!!

bramblina · 05/09/2006 19:57

just found the other one floating around.

PanicPants · 05/09/2006 20:04

Hi all

think the mmr thread is about tonight, but tbh I'm still as confused as before, just don't know what to do for the best.

Who's having it here?

bramblina · 05/09/2006 20:40

We are PP. I read a few articles, then panic set in and I thought, don't read any more. We had made our minds up a long time ago and were just beginning to confuse the issue.
Tbh I have said a few times, ds has a few traits I liken to a child with autism but my Mum disagrees and says he's more alert than so. I didn't think children with autism were not alert though. He only has a few words, yet places things neatly on top of things, juice cup must be standing up, on the table, lines toys up, passes things from one hand to another and so on. It's probably just a developmental stage but, as usual, I read too much and in the end it really doesn't help.

PanicPants · 05/09/2006 20:45

I know what you mean Bramblina, I sometimes look at ds and think there are traits there, but logically I don't think there is, and I wouldn't have noticed anything if I wasn't studying him like mad!

I think over all we will have it, dp's daughter from a previous relationship had it and she's fine, so is everone else I know who has ahd it, so I'm only going on news items and heresay.

Nat777 · 06/09/2006 12:16

I was fine about Missy having the MMR and it is booked for next Friday, but now I have read some of the threads I am pretty worried!

Azure · 06/09/2006 13:42

DS2 will be having the MMR, like DS1. I would prefer to wait until he is nearer 18 months, though, and I won't take him in if he has a cold or other infection.

DS2 is walking most of the time now, holding his hands out to steady himself. He really doesn't want to stay in the pushchair and loves walking alongside it, holding on with one hand. Not great if we're in a hurry! He's a great climber - at a friend's house he climbed up the ladder to her son's bed (one of those raised ones with the desk underneath), with me ready to hold him if needed (it wasn't). He doesn't say too much still - mamama, dadada, ook (for look), and a sort of hello - and that's it.

DS1 went back to school today, going into year 1. It's amazing to think that on his first day last year DS2 was under 3 weeks old. Even more incredible that in 2 years time DS2 will be starting at the nursery of the school.

blossom2 · 06/09/2006 21:56

Many apologies that i havent posted for AGES. i just get so exhausted most days that i can just managed to crash out on the sofa once the kids are asleep at 7pm.

DD2 is swiftly becoming a toddler and losing her babiness. has become a solid thumb sucker and still as affectionate as ever. she is becoming jealous though and has sometimes pushed DD1 away from me whilst we're hugging. I am surprised at how much she has grown and 'knows'. i like this stage, where they are walking but haven't fully developed their tantrums!!!

DD1 is still at nursery and looking forward to starting big school in January.

And still pregnant with number 3. i'm feeling extremely guilty because i'm so tired all the time and just dont have any energy to devote to DD1. its really hard when she asks me to play with her or chase her about in the park. i really do not like this stage and am praying that it'll pass quickly.

glad that everyone is well and hope the move goes well Miaou

Dazie · 07/09/2006 17:33

We are having the MMR next week, I will probably cancel as I feel it is a little too soon. Ds1 and dd have had the MMR and they are both fine. I wont be taking ds2 if he has a cold etc like Azure.

Tigerlion · 08/09/2006 08:58

DS had the MMR around two weeks' ago and is absolutely fine. He has a few spots around his face but the GP said it was a very mild form of measles and that he would not suffer. He certainly does not seem to be suffering as he is as active as ever, wanting to pull up on everything. Not quite walking yet but trying to balance himself without holding on to anything. It is so sweet as he gets up and tries again even if he has had a big fall!

I thought it best to get the MMR earlier rather than later as I did not want to have it done around the birth of the baby, just in case he was really miserable. Blossom, I hope that you are feeling better. Remember, Ginger! DS has made me almost forget that I am PG as he keeps me on my feet non-stop. I cannot believe that I have just four weeks to go until the new arrival. I am huge at the moment and even DS looks at my stomach strangely, probably thinking that something is up. It is going to be funny seeing his reaction to his little sister.

I tried DS on cow's milk the other day and he spat it out. I have tried it in both a bottle and beaker but he has no interest in it whatsoever. DH suggested mixing it with formula and gradually increasing the amount of cow's milk until it he gets used to it. Has anyone else done this?

PanicPants · 08/09/2006 21:37

Ds has been very unsettled this week, with me going back to work I think. And we've had a return back to waking up in the night, which when you have to be up by 6.30am is not ideal.

Still in 2 minds about the MMR and I may wait until he's a bit older, especially as he has the sniffles atm.

blossom2 · 08/09/2006 21:42

we didnt try mixing cow's milk with formula, is it safe and what would it taste like?? but both DDs like their milk warm. DD2 wont touch the milk if its cold so we generally microwave it for 45 seconds (9oz) and she takes it fine.
