Hello ladies, can you believe we will be entering into a 6th year of this thread this year?

Dont do it Indith. When we had our flat we got one. Bloody useless, never dried anything properly. We have our dryer in the garage as no room in the kitchen do you have a garage or a shed with electricity to store it?

Indith · 03/02/2014 11:17

No we don't sadly and kitchen is a typical extension kitchen so narrow with cupboards above the units so can't stack a washer and dryer. We already got rid of one cupboard below the units to get the dishwasher, really can't sacrifice another one! There is the cupboard under the stairs as a possibility but then would have to be a condenser dryer as nowhere to vent outside which is what the combi washer/dryer ones are so I'm guessing about the same level of performance. Plus if we put one under there I'd have nowhere to put the dc's craft stuff and other assorted junk!

JustRubes · 03/02/2014 11:28

We had a condenser one for 5 years. Much better than those combo ones. Dh plumbed it in about a year ago and it was just the same performance - only difference not having to empty it. It has since gone kaput but was 6 years old. New one needed now as cannot bare the laundry situation without.

Mckayz · 03/02/2014 11:40

We have a condenser one. I couldn't live without it. Especially in winter.

Indith · 03/02/2014 11:45

Hmmmm

But where to put it? If I put one under the stairs is the noise going to echo through the house. Stairs are between living and dining room.

Or do I lose breakfast bar space and chuck one under there. Would never be able to plumb it in so would always have to empty the water manually. But then we use that space a lot, the dcs sit up there to help with cooking etc.

Argh! Blood stupid small houses! Wish I could knock down extension and rebuild over full width of house to create big kitchen/diner plus futility room.

IAmDeids · 03/02/2014 11:49

Indith thinking of you today.

Lady glad the funeral went well, and Madrid sounded like the perfect thing for you. Much love.

Kayz, get the DVD's out! Hope your ankle is okay.

Am so over the Winter/Rain/Wind now. I want to see some sunshine!

Mckayz · 03/02/2014 11:55

Our tumble dryer is in the garage. When DH comes home my step-dad is helping him put plumbing to the garage so that the washing machine can go in there too. So then I can have a dishwasher. I hate washing up.

Indith · 03/02/2014 12:06

Dishwashers are amazing kayz. Got ours last year and already have no idea how we survived without it!

Wish I had a garage to put a tumble in!

May have to discuss with dh. We are getting new doors though which is swallowing most savings really.

Heartychoke · 03/02/2014 13:40

Lady, I am so glad that Madrid gave you a little lift and that the funeral went well. Well done you on delivering the eulogy, I have lost a lot of people but never plucked up the courage to deliver a eulogy so I have utter respect.

I am glad you had OK experiences in the Canaries. I have high hopes for the place we have booked which is luxury yurts with a shared pool, chickens to collect eggs from in the morning and ;lost of play areas. You kindly prompted me to indulge myself with a list of this year’s travels. Are plans are: a week in an amazing farmhouse in Norfolk for Feb half term. It is near Holkham and we will have our own sauna to warm up after blustery days on the beach. We are going with my namesake friend who you know and her little fam. Then we have the Canaries yurt experience at Easter, just the five of use. For May half-term we are taking good friends and their three children to my PiL’s cottage in Pembrokeshire. In the first half of August my FiL turns 70 and in an extraordinary act of generosity he is taking his whole family (three children, three children-in-law and seven grandchildren) to Mark Warner in Greece for a whole fortnight, the only condition is that we all sign up for windsurfing lessons with him! Then in the last week of August we are going awake with my namesake and her family again but this time to an amazing looking chalet in the Alps next to a huge lake. I am so excited about all of it.

Indith, we have a condenser drier and it works well. I have never had a combo washer/drier so I am not sure how they compare. Could you fit a drier in your bathroom?

Deids, congrats on your dry January and your new fitness levels. Sounds like it is time for you to book some holidays.

DS is 8.5 months old and can say “hiya!” while waving. He is so damn gorgeous at the moment. Today he fell asleep on the Tube on the way to work and despite having his eyes closed and snoring he continued to feed himself a rice cake. Hilarious.

JamInMyWellies · 03/02/2014 16:18

Indith we have a condenser dryer it's fab! Not that noisy either. Under the stairs would work plus think pf the added heat!

Arti that sounds fab. Love a holiday.

Just realised am going to miss DS1&2s class assemblies on Wednesday as I will be at the funeral.

TheInvisibleHand · 03/02/2014 18:03

indith - I've had both a washer/dryer, a condenser and a regular dryer. i'm afraid the washer/dryer is rubbish - basically the amount you can dry is much, much smaller than the amount you can wash so I gave up on it other than for the odd emergency item. the condenser on the other hand is just fine and not too much faff emptying.

Thanks for asking about DN. other than bandage changes, I think that's it - no scary grafts or anything. He did have to get cleaned up under general. He got himself over pretty big area, so they were worried and he's been fairly dehydrated, vomiting etc. From what my sis is saying though treatment is pretty whizzy and has come on massively in 10 years with high tech dressings etc. Back then they would have kept him in for a week.

Honsandrevels · 03/02/2014 19:34

Invis Hope your DN is ok. It is so easily done. Several near misses with hot drinks here but luckily no direct hits.

Hope all was ok today Lady. Your weekend sounded lovely.

Indith washer dryers are awful. Condensers are ace. Under the stairs would be fine. Ours is in the cellar and we have to empty it manually. Our first one was a bit slow to dry but this was is amazing. They have improved in design and are as good as vented ones now.

JamInMyWellies · 03/02/2014 21:02

Does anyone have a bugaboo bee?

I have never used the car seat adaptors but figured its easier to just use the car seat on Wed, but do I have to keep the main seat on the frame? Or can I remove the seat from the frame and just have the car seat on the frame?

Indith · 03/02/2014 21:35

Absolutely no idea.

beans37 · 03/02/2014 21:59

Jam, I've got a bugaboo cameleon and you can just use the car seat on the frame and not the main seat, but I don't know about the bee. Have you googled? I think you can....

Indith, we have a manually emptying condenser and it's fab. Not much effort, just empty it after every 3-4 dryings.

DH gone to India with work, lucky duck. He only got told yesterday he was going, but luckily he got his visa last week just in case. Not back til Saturday late. Girls are gutted. So am I!

Lady, how was today?

Invis, the treatment does sound whizzy!

I'm off to bed. Sleep tight all x

JamInMyWellies · 04/02/2014 10:11

Thanks Beans I figured it out last night but I cant see how to take the car seat back off the frame and leave the adaptors on the frame. Am clearly just thick. Grin

Indith how did your mum get on?

Vag are you feeling better?

beans37 · 04/02/2014 18:33

Ah, no, my adaptors stay on the car seat all the time, not on the frame x

TheInvisibleHand · 04/02/2014 23:34

aargh. career defining interview first thing tomorrow and I) tube is on strike so i'm not sure if I get there and ii) norovirus is sweeping through my house....

Mckayz · 05/02/2014 06:25

Oh no Invis. Fingers crossed you can get there. Good luck.

beans37 · 05/02/2014 08:25

How are you doing, Invis?
I thought I'd have a couple of friends round while DH in India last night. 12 of us had a take away and drank far too much. Normally I'd be delighted because DD3 slept til 6, but she was up for the day then. Ouch. I didn't get to sleep til 1am. Fool.

Heartychoke · 05/02/2014 08:40

Good luck today Invis. I hope you aren't barging and you got some sleep. x

Have a nap with DD3 today Beans. I'm rather jel of your sleeping baby.

JamInMyWellies · 05/02/2014 09:22

Invis hope you are ok.

Beans no sympathy. Wink Go have a can of red ambulance.

Arrived in Scotland ok. Sitting in an asda car park filling DS3 with milk in the hope he sleeps through it all.

Hope it goes ok, Jam. Ad the milk works.
Can of red ambulance consumed. Feeling a bit more with it.

Just read Grazia. Man I'm getting old. The fashion pages are ridiculous and hideous. I am turning into my mother. But seriously. The 80s were not good, why revive them???
