Hello ladies, can you believe we will be entering into a 6th year of this thread this year?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Vag, or anyone else in the know, I have a question about DD.

She is always thirsty and asking for a drink. She finishes a 300ml cup in about a minute or 2 and then asks for more. Everything else is normal, she's eating and playing etc just as normal but just seems to be constantly after a drink.

Any ideas? My biggest worry is diabetes, so will take her to the doctors too.

Thanks

Indith · 29/01/2014 08:25

What is her urine output compared to her drinking? That is something the Dr will be interested in.

JamInMyWellies · 29/01/2014 09:02

Kayz DS2 did and still does drink and extraordinary amount of fluid. He also pees like a racehorse. Does she wee lots?

Mckayz · 29/01/2014 09:40

She is weeing a lot more than she was last week.

I have got her an appointment at 330 today. She probably won't drink anything today now.

JustRubes · 29/01/2014 10:28

So sorry to hear Jam. Hope you get up there without issue.

Beans, I'm doing that too. DS needs 2 passports updated at that 5 year mark. So tedious, but you've reminded me to collect form!

Been for the second time to the most annoying condescending GP ever. went originally due to swollen lymph, and ended up called back after bloods marked one non-urgent abnormal (unrelated to lymph) First apt she rushed off and was on her way out the door to pick up her daughter when I was in the toilet at GP and she 'thought I wasn't coming' erm, but I signed in electronically love.... then rushed me through and didn't log the info for referral and fasting bloods until I chased 2 days later. Then today she bollocked me for getting info out of the receptionist of why I was called back, spoke to me like a 12 year old and told me I was "a bit OCD" Shock (ok so perhaps accurate, but I don't like her)Can I request a different one next time even if she started the appts? I can right? - not hard - it's all on the system?

JustRubes · 29/01/2014 10:29

kayz hope dd's apt is all fine

Vagolajahooli · 29/01/2014 11:01

A bit OCD? Being concerned as to why you are called back is not OCD, it's called anxiety not OCD and it's perfectly normal. Everyone gets concerned when they are called back due to off results. You obviously just have a better than average ability to coerce a receptionist. A fine attribute I believe.

Kayz is the thirst unusual for her? She is young to be diabetic, usually they need a bit of time for the Isles of langahans to be stop functioning fully first. But that's not to say it is not. Always a good idea to get things checked out. It could be she has a high metabolism, so high cardiac output, so uses up a lot of fluids and gets thirsty. Also the weather at the moment is unusually warm but we all have our heating on which creates a dryer environment in the house.

Anyway let us know how she gets on, your a good mum, I don't know if I would notice how much the boys are drinking.

Mckayz · 29/01/2014 11:09

Unusually warm Vag? It's bloody freezing!! There is snow on the moor! Grin

It is unusual for her, she wasn't drinking this much last week.

Honsandrevels · 29/01/2014 13:27

Has she eaten anything different in the last 24 hrs Kayz? It might be there was more salt in it than she usually has or something like that.

Rubes God that would have raging. I'd request to be moved to another GP and tell the practice manager why.

Mckayz · 29/01/2014 14:29

Nothing I can think of Hons.

beans37 · 29/01/2014 14:48

Ooh Rubes, my blood boileth on your behalf!! Grrr. Different GP due.

Kayz, let us know how the appointment went

IAmDeids · 29/01/2014 14:55

Defo request a different GP. I don't like one at my surgery. She's a right cow. I used to book appointments and specify anyone but her. Thing was receptionist wasn't even that shocked so I figured they'd had issues with her before.

JamInMyWellies · 29/01/2014 16:27

That is bloody shocking rubes. Complain. I once complained about a gp at our surgery and he had to write a letter of apology.

Following on from my sanitary towels instead of breast pads. I have just measured my boobs to order some new feeding bras. 34E!! I am normally a 32B. ShockShock

Indith · 29/01/2014 16:39

Rubes that is so rude!

Jammy bf def has some advantages! 3 children later I have gone from barely there to a 28F Grin.

Hope Dr ok Kayz.

Having just gone to sleep this afternoon for a pre-night shift nap I got a phone call to collect ds2 as he is poorly. Typical. Any other day dh could have done it but he has a live deployment thingy tonight which he could manage with a healthy child but not an ill one so there is yet another shift I'm missing and more hours owing.

Vagolajahooli · 29/01/2014 18:14

Jam that is brilliant you complained. When I was pregnant with DS2 my midwife asked me to get some bloods through my GP for the usual late pregnancy pre birthing bits & bobs. It was so stupid he insisted on doing a full check up on me even though all I needed was a request form for the bloods. He read through my midwifes notes and complained about her handwriting, & as someone who has had to decifer a lot of medical notes, doctors are not the neatest handwriters. He then hassled me about having an independent midwife and treated me as if I was some weird freebirther. Then he was so rough examining me that I had really bad abdominal pain all afternoon. But worst of all was he had this really sweet medical student who he let palpate my tummy. I pointed out where the butt and feet were to help her, and he said "don't bother she has no idea what she's doing anyway" so the poor medical student dropped her head & went back to her seat.

Kayz tbat made me laugh. It has been 8-10 degrees mostly here. It has been so warm the spring bulbs have started coming up. I've no idea what will happen to them if the cold weather comes across here.

so what did the GP say?

OP posts:
Mckayz · 29/01/2014 19:15

Well as I predicted she was back to normal today. So he wasn't worried at all. I just need to keep an eye on her and if she goes 2-3 weeks of drinking loads everyday then to go back.

JamInMyWellies · 29/01/2014 21:43

Ridiculous Vag.

So I think my delightful children have worms and have passed it on to me. God honestly if its not enough to contend with bloody constipation and piles.

JustRubes · 29/01/2014 22:09

Thanks ladies. Glad I'm not overreacting. Not embellishing at all. Promise. Just think I will book the doc I like next time albeit a man Grin and let reception know and him my reasons. I have an ultrasound booked for a couple of weeks at the hospital and finally chased that up after finding out they had an old address ( this time not nitwit gp fault!)

Kay's I'm glad she's ok. Hope all stays good x

Vag that's bloody awful. Poor med student and you.

Jam happy anniversary and

JustRubes · 29/01/2014 22:10

Oops.
And jam hope the worms pass quick!!!! X

Indith · 30/01/2014 08:17

yak jammy, what are you doing about you, taking the medicine or not with your feeding?

Heartychoke · 30/01/2014 08:18

Rubes, I think a doctor calling a patient "a little bit OCD" as an insult is SHOCKING. OCD is a serious medical condition and not something doctors should use as a pejorative label. I'd consider a formal complaint.

Bad news on the worms Jambo. So sorry to hear about your gran. I hope you get up to Scotland all right.

Nice to see you Invis. I enjoyed Wolf Hall too but only after a few false starts carrying the massive book about, eventually I got it on Kindle and stopped feeling intimidated by it. DH says its his best book ever. They are soon to dramatise it with Mark Rylance in the lead, my friend has been asked to do all the PR and she is beyond excited.

Anyone been to Lanzarote? Is it horrid? We are desperate for Easter sun and found a gorgeous Eco lodge there which I'm hoping might go against the stereotype of full English breakfasts and drunken sun burnt Brits.

JamInMyWellies · 30/01/2014 08:25

Indith am sure you said your two had worms recently. Did you take the medicine? Everything I have read says BF mums can't take the medication. So so gross. I will be bleaching the life out of my house today.

Indith · 30/01/2014 08:27

for info. May inhibit milk production as seen in one study but levels of mebendazole undetectable in milk. unlikely to be transmitted in clinically relevant concentrations. It is high protein binding, low protein binding drugs pass through more readily to milk. It is listed as a l3 drug which is middle of the risk list and considered fairly safe. It will peak in your plasma between half an hour and 7 hours after taking so if you were concerned you could on theory express to avoid feeding during this time. I didn't because ds2 was taking it anyway so I just staggered our doses but yours is rather smaller!

Indith · 30/01/2014 08:28

That is from medications and mothers milk which is the usual reference book for pharmacists and is what we have on the ward in the hospital.
