Princess of China - Disney looks brilliant, photos were great. Hope you're feeling less sick soon. How many weeks are you now?

We are also looking at DLP Ponyo Smile, for 2016! The older two loved it this year and don't think my parents will be able for taking Anna and my niece away in a few years so think we might do it. Oh and if my Dad can manage Disney for 3 days with an excitable Sofia and Olivia and an even more excitable wife then your dp should be fine Wink

Well as all on FB know, Anna started nursery school yesterday, all good, although I'm not sure she has quite grasped the concept that she'll be going for 5 days in a row !! She's only in for a few hours at the minute, I'm steeling myself for the moment when she realises that she'll be staying for dinners, although her first full week is also the time me and Mr W will be away so good luck with that Mum!!

Blizy - how are you feeling? Am sure you're worried about next week, but we'll all be here xx

WeAreBorg · 10/09/2014 10:39

Wow princess impressed that to milky has saved for her dress! Nate has no concept of money or saving for things. He's a bit like me though, and seems to have a compulsion to buy random tat.
ponyo yes we took a little buggy when we went to london too! Was so pleased we did as often walked a long way. I found people really helpful, generally several people hovered round to help with buggy! and leapt up to offer us a seat as soon as we got on! Must be the effect of seeing me lugging my fat baby in a sling everywhere.

Speaking of bug gyms, does anyone still use theirs quite a lot? We walk a lot, but Nate is hanging out of his a bitm and started to get 'helpful' comments from random old ladies that I should be making him walk. Often 3-4 mile round trips though! How do you all manage without?

Hope you had a nice birthday pon!

fellow competitive parents, how are the swimming lessons going? V impressed that D can swim by herself ledkr! Nate loved his first one, but essentially paid no attention to the instructor and kept paddling off in the other direction.

WeAreBorg · 10/09/2014 10:43

Will be thinking of you in the 17th blizy must be so scary for you xx

wiggles anna looked so cute going to big little school.

Just realised that my iPad is now converting commas to exclamation marks randomly so apologies for the creepily cheerful earlier post

americanexpat · 10/09/2014 20:28

blizy - not long til the scan now. xx

You dropped off my threads a while ago but I didn't have anything to post. L's swimming lessons are going ok. Hmm He's the feral child in the class, over excited and over eager and having trouble waiting his turn/not splashing/listening. He's only had 2 lessons but they've both ended in tantrums in the changing room. DH is taking him next week thankfully.

L hasn't used the buggy in roughly a year but we don't walk loads, except for the zoo, etc. 3-4 miles will take bloody ages with a 3 year old walking, won't it?

Anyway, am feeling a bit burned out with work but it's going to be nonstop through October. We haven't had a break since March and I think we're planning a weeks holiday in November to visit MIL. The annual leave entitlement here is ridiculous, I only have 2 weeks per year and try to save a couple days for when L's nursery is closed for poor weather during winter.

WeAreBorg · 11/09/2014 10:38

Ooh yes American, my brother worked in Texas for a bit and got 2 weeks leave, he had to work all hours. We sometimes think we'd like to live in the US but we're too lazy I think. How does everyone manage over there? Are you just all used to it?
Ha ha, I think we share feral children. He just does what he wants and deliberately doesn't do what teachers/instructors tell him just to be contrary. He's happiest outside roaring, bashing things with sticks and collecting bugs. I love it though, I was a very well behaved little girl and I don't think it did me any favours TBH.

americanexpat · 11/09/2014 14:59

Most are used to having only 2 weeks so they don't question it. Unfortunately I got used to the UK entitlement. Sad The maternity leave is dire too, 12 weeks unpaid is required by the federal government though some states have better entitlements (not mine unfortunately). Though employers are required to provide time and a place that's not a bathroom to pump for breastfeeding mothers.

Borg - L has a lot of "collections" too. Leaf collection, rock collection, pinecone collection. Basically anything he finds interesting while we're out walking, he tosses it in the boot of his tricycle. Grin I wouldn't mind him being feral at swimming lessons but he's distracting the other well-behaved children.

WeAreBorg · 11/09/2014 22:04

We're so lucky in the UK. I'm taking a year off for mat leave and the primary reason is breastfeeding. Neither boys took bottles and I don't seem to able to express more than about 20ml, I'd be scuppered in the US.

Yes we've got piles of 'interesting' rocks, sticks, leaves, piles of moss etc. it's always Nate being the feral one at all the classes and groups we go to. Other mums always say what a handful theirs are too, but yet there they are, sitting quietly whilst N is racing round destroying things. It's great when he meets a kindred spirit, most of his friends (well my friends with kids the same age) seem so grown up now Sad

Grannyapple · 13/09/2014 21:17

Hi ladies...hope everyone is well?

wiggs hope anna enjoyed her first week at nursery?

blizy feels like your pg is going so quickly...good luck for next week & we're all here & thinking of you xxx

35wks here...feeling shattered a lot...2 more weeks of work left and have a mw home birth assessment visit this Thursday at 36wks. Roll on mat leave...thinking I should probably pack hospital bags this w/e just in case..

Amelia has finally started walking...still only a few steps at a time but glad she's doing it now as she's getting a bit heavy to cart about now. Nate started pre school 2 wks ago...got French homework on his 1st day Shock. They had an open day today so I toddled along to find out what they cover in pre school...I feel as if we've been a bit lazy with him in teaching him writing, phonics etcBlush...but sounds like he'll be fine & we just need to be consistent at home with what he's learning there...he is a complete chatterbox tho!

Shattered today so off to my kip in a mo!

blizy · 14/09/2014 15:43

Yours has went faster, 35 weeks already, no wonder you are knackered! Are you having a home birth? I'm going to ask for elcs,
I really don't think I can mentally handle an inducement.

how was the CS for those of you who had one, the spinal, op and recovery?

Reastie · 14/09/2014 19:18

Hi all,

Granny not long to go now. We'll have to arrange a coolings meet up when you have energy.

Blizy I had c section. It was fine, the spinal was just like a regular injection (I think they numbed the area before the big needle) . It was like my tummy was a washing machine during. That sounds weird but it will make sense if you have one. I just remember finding it weird as I felt a bit out of it. I thought there would be no pain and I'd just l I e there mentally normal and clear thinking but I was woozy. I wasn't prepared for that.

Got to get Alice to bed. Be back...

OP posts:
Reastie · 14/09/2014 19:34

And I'm back! Blizy don't blame you at all for csec plan. My experience of the op is positive and I'd do it again. It was painful afterwards but so would a regular birth. I was on non stop park killers for about a week thenlowered the amount. Once I got home only codeine though.

Borg Alice does swimming,French, gym, speech and drama, music at nursery by specialist teachers. She also has optional extras of tennis and tai quan do (or something like that) but I can't be bothered with all that. Do I win the prize?! Grin I mAke it sound fancy but I don't really care a b out all that, it's a lovely nursery and she's Happy so I'm happy.

OP posts:
PrincessOfChina · 14/09/2014 20:35

Hello all!

Blizy Best of luck for the scan. I'd definitely request an ELCS in your position. I've requested one (had one with R) and the midwife was very open to it. I found the worst thing was tiredness and that was because of the long labour beforehand. I'm hoping for a peaceful birth this time around.

Love hearing the stories of the little ones. Can't believe D is riding a bike led - how cool is she?!

Anyone thinking about school applications. We haven't got to details yet but the local schools have open days next month. I can hardly believe they're off to big school so soon. If all goes well I'll be off on ML as R starts so that'll be nice. Planning on keeping her in nursery for at least 3 days when baby is born though. It'll just be too hard for her otherwise I think, she's been full time for so long.

I've been watching the Invictus Games. So inspiring. So much so, I didn't get out of bed until 4 today and now waiting for Chinese! I'm so lazy this pregnancy!

blizy · 14/09/2014 21:02

How are you feeling princess, has the sickness eased? How many weeks are you now and do you have a scan date yet?

Grannyapple · 14/09/2014 23:17

Yeah blizy hoping for a home birth...mainly cos I'm assuming 3rd labour will be quickest...tho I've been told all bets are off with 3rd one Hmm.

Yeah I'd opt for a c sec if I were you too...when is it you start your fortnightly scans? How have you been feeling?

Yes reastie defo need to arrange a Coolings meet up...I still haven't been there! Mat leave starts 30th September so I'll be free from then on in til bubba arrives! Still wondering how I'll cope with 3 in tie but hey ho!

6 days of work left...cannot wait now.

Yes I've been looking at schools applications & finding it overwhelming to be honest.. I too will be in mat leave when N starts which will be handy esp for the first few weeks of short' days.

But we're only in the catchment area for the school round the corner (which is great as it's what we want) but I'm struggling to think of 5 schools to put down as I know we'll be out of immediate area for most...but thinking I should fill up the firm so I don't just get given a school i really don't want at all..

PrincessOfChina · 15/09/2014 16:47

Blizy I thought I was feeling ok today after feeling crap all weekend but actually had to leave work just now as I felt so rough. I'm 11 weeks, scan is 2 weeks tomorrow so 13 weeks. Sure with R scan was earlier. I'm trying to treat the feeling crap as a good thing.

We're in catchment for 2 schools, and just out for the one we really want. Which is bobbins! Do you really get 5 choices? Not sure I can fill that many!

blizy · 17/09/2014 14:38

Princess, hope the sickness passes soon.

I had my scan this morning, all was perfect. Bob was hiding the face but proudly displayed his willy! I am totally overwhelmed and to celebrate we bought a couple of blue outfits. Need to get my head around putting the pink things away and painting over the pink nursery.

americanexpat · 17/09/2014 16:34

blizy - that's great news, so happy for you and your DH.

I started to post yesterday then work got in the way. Hmm I had some uni friends over this weekend, got my fill of shopping, wine and tapas. One of my friends announced she was nine weeks pregnant (her first) but I had a text from her Monday saying she went for a scan and they discovered a MMC. I'm so gutted for her, she was really excited. It's dredging up a lot of emotions around my own mcs too. Sad

wigglesrock · 17/09/2014 20:28

Blizy - that's brilliant news, glad all is well. You must be a bit all over the place at the minute. I'll be torturing you about names soon Smile

Grannyapple -not long now - any names picked? Smile Take it easy for the next few weeks.

Princess - hope you're feeling a bit less shite.

Americanexpat - that's very sad for your friend and for you xxx

All humming along here, Anna settled into school, we will be applying for primary school around Christmas time. I think we've about 5 choices or so. With any luck (and I think I'll be relying on luck) Anna will get into the same school as the other two, but we aren't in catchment (parish) and siblings are the second criteria so it'll be squeaky bum time again. Can't believe it's been almost 3 years since I went through this with Liv!!!

Reastie - keep meaning to ask did you ever get sorted with your bathroom/bath moving?

Reastie · 18/09/2014 07:45

blizy that's wonderful news. I too was thinking about names, have you got any ideas? So soon you might be a foreign country up there, is it all a bit bad with voting stuff there today?

american feel for your friend and dredging up the emotions

We're visiting a school open morning this week end and have another planned next month. Another one I need to ring up to find out when they are open, so we're all go here on schools front. If anyone thinks of anything good/useful to look out for/ask on the tours for this week end please let me know, I'm a bit clueless.

wiggles thanks for asking, the floor was finally done yesterday, they didn't move the bath, long story . Just got DH to DIY the bathroom cabinet back into place. The loo now leaks since it was taken out for the floor though Confused so we can't use the bathroom loo ATM. And we need to get an electrician in to check the work of the shoddy one as we're worried he might be non legit after his behaviour.

borg keep forgetting to say, we still use the push chair quite regularly. Alice is getting too big for it, but she's useless at walking and it's easier to buggy her (especially when going shopping and I can strap her in and keep her quiet with food in the buggy Blush ). I keep looking at her head getting too tall and thinking she must be getting a bit old now, but it's such a practical bag carrier I'll only give it up grudgingly. And people can give me evil stares and judge me if they have nothing better to do, I don't care.

princess hope you feel better soon. I remember how awful it was. I could not go back to that again. At least hopefully it should end soon.

OP posts:
blizy · 18/09/2014 08:21

No names yet, we are trying to compile a short list nut we have lads of time for that yet.
It's not bad here at all reastie, there was an amazing atmosphere in Glasgow yesterday. Although I do expect there o be numpies on both sides of the camp today! Btw, we won't be a foreign country, still be part of Great Britain but not the UK.

Reastie · 18/09/2014 09:55

Blush shows how good my politics knowledge is blizy

OP posts:
americanexpat · 18/09/2014 14:56

I don't envy you the school placement process. I think primary schools are required to accommodate all children in the catchment so L will have a place at the school down the road. There's an option to apply for other schools in the school district or in another school district but it's generally a special case. But they don't start until 5 here so we have another year before we worry about it. Grin

reastie - have you posted on Property/DIY about your toilet? Hopefully it's something quite simple you can fix cheaply yourself.

Reastie · 18/09/2014 15:15

No I haven't american Dh says he knows what the problem is and will try again to fix it when he gets home from work today Hmm

blizy I think you should pick a name beginning with y to finish off the nn blizy Grin

Grannyapple · 24/09/2014 21:36

Hello.....anybody there???

wigglesrock · 24/09/2014 23:31

Hope you are keeping well - Grannyapple. You must be looking forward to finishing work - not too long now

All good here, Anna was sent some homework back from nursery, she had to practice using scissors Smile, I asked her did she want to do her homework? She replied " No Mummy, you do my homework for me", it was more of an order than a request!! The force is strong with this one.

Have spent this week at curriculum evenings for the other two - not sure I'd want to be 9 again, it's all looks very hard. Am off to have a nosy at transfer test practice papers

Princess - hope the nausea is easing a bit and Blizy hope the button is kicking away at you
