Hello ladies,

Thought I would start you off. We can just keep this a stats thread until we all deliver and then move across if you like.

Do you lot put your babies down upstairs/in another room in their cot to sleep in the evening before you go to bed? Sylvie usually falls asleep at around 8/9 until 11 and I just leave her downstairs with us, then take her up to the bedroom when we go to bed at around 11 (she has a feed at 11 anyway). Should I be putting her down in the bedroom at 8 and establishing some sort of bedtime routine now she's a bit older?

TarkaTheOtter · 27/03/2014 14:16

We put dd in her own room from about 8 weeks. She slept pretty well at first but from 4 months on her sleep went terrible so I don't think it helps long term even if it does make an immediate difference.
We've kept Alex in the room with us for all sleeps so far (12 weeks). I'm hoping it'll actually help his sleep long term as he'll be more used to sleeping through noise whereas dd was a light sleeper for ages and we tiptoed around during naps.
Not sure what I'll do when he gets too big for the crib though. I can't exactly lift his cot up and downstairs! Maybe set a travel cot up downstairs?

Nurse was happy for ds to have his injections despite the antibiotics and I wanted him to get the men c one before our holiday so they did them this morning. He's in a grump now.

Well, that was about as much fun as making small talk to a stranger while gettimg electric shocks in your vag can be really.

Seriously though, it wasn't that bad and I really hope it works. She gave me exercises to do at home, and also showed me how to use the pelvic floor muscles when getting up and sitting down. I just need reminding to do the exercises.

I think most babies change their sleeping habits around four months anyway, so I was planning to start with a routine then, given that if DD is anything to go by no one will be sleeping then anyway.

fryingpantoface · 27/03/2014 15:50

Thanks everyone.

the hv said she was stumped. He's obviously healthy, he's alert, following me around the room with his eyes, and not dehydrated she said. She said we should hear from the paediatrician by next week. That she hasn't come across this problem and to try not to worry

FelixFelix · 27/03/2014 15:51

I think I'll keep doing what we're doing for now then, and start more of a routine in a couple of weeks time (can't believe she's 14 weeks on Sunday Shock)

alteredimages · 27/03/2014 15:54

That is great frying, sounds like Henry is just fine. Smile Hope the paediatrician can reassure you further next week.

FelixFelix · 27/03/2014 17:00

Frying that's good news, you just be so pleased Smile

TobyLerone · 27/03/2014 17:09

I'm really pleased, frying :)
Now if you can just send your HV round to book...

BookTart · 27/03/2014 17:49

Glad she saw sense frying :)

Persephone has been lovely for the last couple of days, but her nights are no better and I'm really struggling after last night. I've fallen asleep on the sofa four times this afternoon, which is more than she has! I feel sort of dizzy and my face feels weird DH will be home soon, I'll have to see if I can get a nap in before bedtime at 9.

altered why did you have to do that, if you don't mind me asking? I have my first prolapse appointment at the end of next month, and I don't know what to expect at all.

alteredimages · 27/03/2014 18:07

Perineal reeducation is a big thing here in France book so they check your pelvic floor muscles at the six week check. As I already knew, mine were buggered so I now go to see a freelance midwife who does it at her house. I don't think I have a prolapse but my muscles are very very weak so as well as the normal clenching exercises in different positions she is using a tens machine with a vaginal probe Blush. Sorry for the tmi.

At home I am supposed to spend five mins each on my back with knees together, then soles of feet together with knees wide apart on bed, then with knees together broyght up to my chest clenching for five then releasing for five. This should be done twice daily, gradually building up to clenching til the count of fifteen.

Hope all the rest of you are doing your pelvic floor exercises too! I thought I was fine with DD til I started leaking when pregnant with N.

alteredimages · 27/03/2014 21:04

Ugh, DD dunked my mobile in a glass of water. Angry

Needless to say, it now no longer works and DH is out and has no way of reaching us except email.

FelixFelix · 27/03/2014 21:11

Altered that sounds interesting Shock I'm rubbish at remembering to do my pelvic floor exercises. When I was ill and had a mega cough a few weeks ago, I kept leaking a little bit with each cough Blush My Mum always goes on about doing the exercises and says she always needs the loo 'as that's what having four kids will do to you.' Lovely.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 27/03/2014 23:33

Just to let you know, I've name changed. My mom joined mumsnet and guessed who I was! Whoops! Happily, I've never bitched about her.

'tis Frying btw.

I've been doing my pelvic floor exercises inadvertently while trying to stop a tampon falling out. Apparently since having H i have developed something akin to a bucket. Bloody tampons! I've moved onto a bigger mooncup and things seem better.

book that's really rough! I hope tonight goes well for you

Pidgy · 28/03/2014 04:58

million (feels weird saying that!) hope you're ok and next week reassures you. Hope the bleeding stops. Surely they can't leave you for that long?

altered that sounds interesting to say the least with the electric shocks.

Lara's feeding is kind of weird. She's putting on weight fine but constantly loses her latch which means I have to hold my boob in her mouth. Not sure if it's too fast flow as she often has milk spurting out her mouth and looks a bit shocked. Then she cries and eventually re latches to have some more. It's been worse the past 24 hours when she's been going longer (3-4 hours) between her feeds as she was feeding every couple if hours the past week or so. But her latch has never been great, particularly on one side.

Any thoughts? She keeps clicking and taking in air too.
Should I post in a breastfeeding thread do you think?
I feel like I should have it sorted by now.

Good news here us DS perforated eardrum is now healed, but we have a pharmacy for Lara's dry skin and cradle cap. Doc thinks it is a fungal infection on her head and has prescribed 2xcreams, shampoo and a bath milk for her!

TobyLerone · 28/03/2014 07:38

Can you go to a BFing group, Pidgy? Meredith has a very shallow latch and is a very noisy feeder. I went to one to have her latch checked and they just said that not all babies latch like in the books. As long as she wasn't hurting me, was putting on weight and having plenty of wet/dirty nappies, they just put it down to her being weird :o

Naturegirl82 · 28/03/2014 08:42

pidgy I have a similar thing. O latches much better on one side than the other.

I'm so hungry! Been fasting since 7.30 last night and can't eat until 12 Sad

O did well with her jabs yesterday. Only one little bout of crying and then she slept the rest of the afternoon/evening.

Saw the endocrinologist yesterday and I'm back on my medication. Trying to lower the dose though so will see how I get on. He recommended the coil as well as it is the least likely to have long term fertility implications for me.

Naturegirl82 · 28/03/2014 09:43

Argh just had my first bloods taken and they have told me I have to stay on the premises. Was hoping to pop into the shops (2 mins away). Argh, guess I will be surfing the internet for 2 hours.

enormouse · 28/03/2014 09:47

altered DS1 did this literally a few days ago to dps phone. Put it in a bag/bowl of uncooked rice. It's a natural dessicant.

Swannykazoo · 28/03/2014 09:51

Hi all - bloody hell Fri again?
pidgy I also have to hold my boob for little puggle - I hoped as he got bigger he'd be able to stay on but he still needs the massive nork "shaped" for him. I've managed to hurt my thumbs doing that for hours and going mad pressurewashing and secaturing when he's not feeding

enormouse · 28/03/2014 10:18

pidgy Cal doesn't have textbook perfect latch either. Doesn't seem to open his mouth wide enough and needs to be manouevred on.

Poor Olivia and all the other littlies going through jabs. Finally found the appointment card for Cal (it's next Tuesday).

Million really feel for you and book being at the mercy of bastard centiles and hvs. DS1 seems to be having a growth spurt at the mo and starting to fit into his 2-3 clothes, it might be that by the time is appt comes through he'll be of a 'normal' height. Hmm. He does seem to grow in fits and starts (bulking out, then shooting up) unlike Cal who seems to be in a stretching machine.

Went out to Belfast yesterday with Cal and had a lovely time. Had to hunt for the perfect mothers day card for MIL, and nothing seemed right. She's quite young (59) and artsy and it took ages to find a card that didn't have puppies/kittens/teddies/flowers on it. A little irritated as I'm sure dp wouldn't have agonized over it so much.

Does anyone have any plans for mothers day?

FelixFelix · 28/03/2014 10:41

Nature how rubbish! I hate having to hang around hospitals, it's so boring. Our local one has no 3G signal inside either so you're cut off from the outside world Grin hope it goes quick for you!

Enormouse, my go to place for cards is always Paperchase. I hate cutesy cards and can always find good ones in there. DP keeps asking if I want to go out for food on Sunday but I'm dieting so I'm not interested!

Got my driving theory test at 8am tomorrow Shock im convinced I'm going to fail. Then my NCT reunion afterwards. Fun fun fun!

Swannykazoo · 28/03/2014 10:53

Enormouse we had one of our "heated discussions" yesterday about Mother's day cards for inlaws. The PIL want me to call them mum and Dad which I HATE - I have a mum and Dad thank you very much.
I was reminding DH to send his mum a card and he wanted me to sign it - I keep trying to point out that I would be really sad if LO called anyone else mum and dad - and his card is for his mum, he's her child. SIgh!
Is it just me or does anyone else think its a bit weird?

Naturegirl82 · 28/03/2014 11:22

Felix have 3g at least so I've done quite a bit of internet shopping! Ordered my reuseables and dog food. 20 mins to go.

puggle I don't call mil and dil mum and dad (I would find that weird) but Dh and I both sign cards to each of our parents. I'd never consider Mil to be my mum but I think it's nice to show that I appreciate the help they give us as well as dh. But I do think it is a personal thing so you are right to do what feels right for you.

Naturegirl82 · 28/03/2014 11:23

Good luck for the theory test tomorrow Felix

Naturegirl82 · 28/03/2014 11:28

Enormouse we are out for lunch with the family. We usually have dinner with them on Sundays anyway but in-laws are out in the evening so having lunch out instead.

Was hoping to get cards and flowers for Mil in between my appointments but that plan was scuppered. Will have to go out later to get them instead as dh needs the car I have at lunch so no time after my appointment. No card or present for my mum this year though as she is still galavanting around the world.
