I am playing the will she, won't she sleep game tonight too. Currently asleep, but those damn arms keep flapping! I certainly won't miss the startle reflex whenever it disappears!

Frying I leave C at the whining stage unless its in the middle of the night. Usually she'll suck her hand for a bit and settle. Sometimes when she's asleep she'll let out a giant painful soubding scream, but then is ok again. Very odd.

DH is home tonight after three days away for work, but has complained about how tired he is and has now gone to bed in the other room. Hopefully he'll help out a bit tomorrow, maybe without even being asked to...haha that really is wishful thinking!!!

We are on night 3 tonight of no colicky crying after starting colief. It's a total pain to use when bf but seems to be doing the trick touch wood.

Has anyone taken their LO swimming on their own? Wondering if it's doable or if I should wait until DH can come too....

Pidgy · 19/03/2014 23:00

Sorry, quick qs.... Does everyone put their baby down whilst still awake?
I do in the day, but at night I hold her until she's in a deep sleep, then put her down. Not sure if I should be doing that!

Interested what others do.

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 23:07

pidgy he goes down sleepy, but not asleep. That's for in the day as well as night.

Spged I've taken ds1 by myself. It was ok. Best advice when you get there, get yourself ready first and then the baby. Then when you get out it's the reverse. If you need to get the baby passed to you, ask someone who will be happy to help

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 20/03/2014 00:19

Thank you for the travelling advice, will discuss with DH. Suspect we'll end up with pram carrycot as she does nap in it now, so won't be too big a change. No idea if it's vented though!

fly she phoned to apologise! First time EVER! I'm feeling weirdly liberated by it, and much less like I have to walk on eggshells with her now. Hope it lasts.

pidgy Alex goes down awake during the day (not that it works every nap!) and asleep at night, as she usually only wakes once in night, and feeds back to sleep. I'm trying the Baby Whisperer sleep stuff, and refuse to do an 'activity' at 4.30am! Since the night feed is the one she's meant to be dropping at some point, I don't worry that she doesn't go down asleep.

I also leave her to grizzle/bimble. Not full crying, that I pick her up for, but I don't want to run in at every noise plus sometimes I am getting more biscuits and can't get there fast enough.

Made red velvet cake tonight. It is not v red. Hmmm.

MerryPops · 20/03/2014 02:48

Just to say thanks for the responses, you made me feel a bit better about the weight gain.

pidgy we try to put down sleepy although he refuses to go down at all tonight but like humpty he tends to fall asleep at the night feed.

Pidgy · 20/03/2014 03:09

Ok, think I will be a bit stricter and stop holding her for so long after feeds. She usually falls asleep too at the night feeds but not always. Can't wait until she only wakes once at night! Then I can stop going to bed so early and actually see my DH!

I used to take DS swimming quite often on my own. As frying said, you get ready first, then last. It's much easier when they're not rolling or moving. Really tired them out too!

fryingpantoface · 20/03/2014 06:47

After my last post, Henry slept in his cot until 6am! I feel crazily liberated and I'm hoping for a repeat tonight

Angelesque · 20/03/2014 06:57

Hello all,

Frying excellent lie in! I am v excited as Finn only woke once in the night to feed - and the first sleep stretch was seven hours! Please God it continues... was worth him being the devil child Wednesday day time

Has anyone been advised to give their baby vitamin D drops? My health visitor is insistent Finn should be having them now, but when I went to the pharmacist they said they don't advise them before six months. Bit confused...

fryingpantoface · 20/03/2014 07:30

I've not been told angel, so no help here!
congratulations on Finn!

alteredimages · 20/03/2014 07:34

angel here babies have vit d drops daily from birth, though N only gets them when I remember. Blush Ebf babies also get weekly vit k for first two months, i think in case of undiagnosed haemophilia.

Sorry for double post. I forgot to say, I am in France.

Naturegirl82 · 20/03/2014 07:51

angel are you bf? Nhs guidance is that bf mothers should take a vit d supplement daily, and babies over 1 month may need to if mum didn't take a vit d supplement when pregnant I think. I looked into it a while ago as a friend was also told they needed to be giving her baby it. But hv seem to be pushing vit supplements as other friend was reprimanded at her two year check because she doesn't give her dd supplements even though she eats a well balanced diet, and then told my friend she should let her dd eat more chocolate!

Was quite chuffed last night as managed to dream feed O and change her nappy without her waking. Meant it only took 20mins to do the whole lot Smile

We are spending the day at Alder Hey today. Hoping these tests are not too bad, and they have a decent cafe for me to loiter in between appointments.

MrsVDB · 20/03/2014 07:58

I'd not heard of giving vitamin supplements. I assume if their ff they don't need it?

Good luck nature

I haven't expressed for 2 days now and I'm feeling a bit sad about it. I don't think it was worth the effort for 60ml but quite liked him having it

fryingpantoface · 20/03/2014 08:06

nature my cousins seem to be there fairly often (they live around the corner) my aunt always praised the cafe. I've never been, so if it's rubbish it's not my fault!

good luck today!

Mrs It's tough to actually finish breast feeding, whether it's the idea of doing it (like me) or actually doing it. You've done well mixing, and you should be proud (hope that doesn't come across as patronising)

TobyLerone · 20/03/2014 08:44

Good luck, nature & Olivia!

Angelesque · 20/03/2014 09:56

Thanks all - Nature, am EBF so far, but took Pregnacare prenatally and am on Pregnacare New Mum now which is packed with Vit D... Think Finn might not need supps for the mo therefore? Hope Alder Hey is okay today x

alteredimages · 20/03/2014 09:56

Good luck nature, will be thinking of you and O today.

I do think the french hand out medicine vitamins and formula out like candy a bit, but for slightly older babies I saw a huge number of bow legged children in egypt, and not kids with a poor diet or no access to healthcare. You wouldn't think it would be a problem somewhere with so much sunlight, but a lot of kids don't get out much, so I really think it depends a lot on lifestyle too. One thing I didn't know is that very fair skinned and light eyed people are also prone to vit D deficiency and may need supplements, though not sure why as it seems counter intuitive. I will keep giving N the vitamin D, mostly because I don't get much since I wear a veil.

FelixFelix · 20/03/2014 10:11

Good luck nature!

flyawayblue · 20/03/2014 10:51

frying wow brilliant sleep from Henry! We had a few hours but it was up at 12:30, 3:30 and then grumbling from 6am.

All those who put down sleepy or awake when did you start? Alice is 7 weeks yesterday and I'm wondering if I missed the time to do this without pain as she really fights it.

Humpty wow on your mum, really glad she rang to apologise and I hope it lasts :) Is the Baby Whisperer any good? DH might get grumpy if I buy another book as we have a few loadsalready.

angel I've been given multi vit drops for Alice from 1 month, they have vit D in and before that I was told to take multi vitamins so they where passed on. She doesn't get them often Blush as she puked up twice after having them so I'm weary.

Good luck nature

Naturegirl82 · 20/03/2014 11:01

The cafe sells costa so is ok in my book. Currently got local anaesthetic cream on both hands and feet and have to go back in 10 mins for the dye injection

fryingpantoface · 20/03/2014 11:09

fly I only started doing it the past week or so, so I'm sure you're fine.

TarkaTheOtter · 20/03/2014 11:28

fly Alex will only be put down fast asleep and he's 11 weeks. My experience with dd was that everything changes at 4 months anyway so not worth worrying about bad habits before then.

BookTart · 20/03/2014 11:36

My HV just told me the exact same thing tarka, which is good because Persephone won't be put down awake or asleep, and still feeds to sleep at nearly 10 weeks Blush

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 20/03/2014 11:41

angel I was told 'vitamin D' drops from birth, but a) they are Vits A,C and D, (Hmm) and b) it varies borough to borough in London, so I think bollocks to it. A goes out every day, and whilst I don't have her in direct sunlight, she gets light on her skin, and I'm taking Pregnacare for breastfeeding mums, so she's getting it that way if it even passes through. I'm skeptical that it can be passed on effectively by drops, as I understood it was manufactured by sunlight, tbh.
When I remember I give her the drops, but I won't fret about it.

frying good sleep! We're gradually getting a few longer sleeps back to back - yesterday we had 4.5, 3, and 5.75 in a row. Admittedly that was after reducing me to tears again in the morning and having to be left with her dad whilst I calmed down (properly lost it), but I say live for the moment plus with this baby brain I can't remember more than about ten mins ago

Windy here today (the weather, not the baby. Although the baby is usually windy too).
