Mrsv, just coming back to post the link. Sorry got caught with a no sleep grumpy baby. Not weird at all, this will be the first I've gone on so nice to 'know' someone Smile

It's amazing what's out there when you can find it. Looking at going to the British museum vikings exhibit parent day organised by mn on the 20th may. Just need to find out of dh wants to go before I book the tickets.

MrsVDB · 19/03/2014 11:53

Great fly just need to persuade dh as its a bit pricey :)

FelixFelix · 19/03/2014 14:06

That lunch thing sounds ace! We don't have anything like that round here Sad

Hope the jabs go ok Pidgy.

It was soooooooo good last night actually having space in bed now the new bednest is here. She still woke up at 5 crying and needing to poo though Confused I'm just making some bottles up and need to nip to the shop. Trying to decide if I should walk all the way to asda or just nip round the corner to the small shop. These are the life changing decisions I get to make now Grin

MrsVDB · 19/03/2014 14:19

Ha ha felix I'm the same where a trip out is like full event

Just had Henry weighed and he's put on another lb in last 2 weeks so now weighs 13lb at 6 weeks. Whopper

Hv thinks the rash is milk rash and to put nothing on it. Also said any johnsons products are awful and not to use. I've been washing him in water but need to wash his hair as its so long so been using no more tears. She said to get simple instead

TobyLerone · 19/03/2014 14:55

I hated Simple, MrsV. I bought it for the same reason but it smells horrible and made Meredith's skin drier and gave her a bit of cradle cap.

We binned it and use Burt's Bees now. It's expensive, but it's cleared the dry skin and cradle cap completely. Plus it smells gorgeous!

TobyLerone · 19/03/2014 14:56

That's not to say you might not absolutely love Simple, btw!

MrsVDB · 19/03/2014 15:18

Oh dear I've just gone and bought some. If its awful ill keep using the johnsons as his heads not dry at all and we've been using it since he was a few days old. Problem only started when I used baby wash on his skin once (cussons mum And me)

MerryPops · 19/03/2014 16:13

Well HV came today and she is a little concerned about Alexander's weight. He is 6.5 weeks and 9lb 10oz, has only put on 5oz in 2 weeks. He is bf so I know they don't put on weight as fast as ff but even so I feel a bit crap. She is happy with the rest of his development so we are going to monitor for a couple of weeks then I might look at switching to formula if he is still not gaining. My only worry is that he already screams the house down when he goes to the loo so I am concerned that the switch will cause even more havoc with his tummy.

For those that bf for a while and have now changed how did you find it?

TarkaTheOtter · 19/03/2014 16:28

merry bf babies grow in spurts rather than constantly so you might find he's gained loads next time, it's just that you weighed him just before a spurt rather than after iyswim.

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 16:37

merry if it helps, Henry is ff and only put on 3ozs in two weeks, then in the last two weeks put on 1lb (iyswim) so it varies, down to the individual baby.

TobyLerone · 19/03/2014 18:08

merry, Meredith was 9lb 10oz at 7 weeks. She was only 10lb 4oz at 9 weeks. It just means she's between the 9th and 25th centiles and just quite small. She's BF.

flyawayblue · 19/03/2014 18:37

Merry Alice is now ebf and her gains fluctuate. Think the only thing that starts discussion is dropping 2 centiles from the one at 2 weeks. Could just be him funding his natural centile. If you want to bf don't think you must ff, talk to a LC if you can and are worried.

Pidgy · 19/03/2014 18:44

Thanks for the well wishes for the jabs. They went surprisingly well. She cried but was quick to settle. No temperature as yet either. Just quite sleepy. Hope she sleeps well!!

Had her weighed today and she was 12,7oz at 9 weeks. She is ebf. As others have said, the weight gain really varies so don't feel pressurised to switch to formula if you don't want to. She may or may not gain more on it, who knows.
Also, it can vary quite a bit if they've just done a poo or wee, and if they've recently been fed. So, he could have had a full tummy last time, and this time have not, and have just pooed or weed.

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 19:28

Henry is going through a no-sleep phase. He didn't really sleep yesterday, woke up about ten mins after i posted last night, didn't sleep until 10 and we co-slept all night. Didn't really sleep today, and wont sleep now. He is tired. With white noise i get 10 mins of sleep.
dh isn't back yet and ds1 is sleeping. How bad is it to let Henry whine a little before going in? He's in his cot and not really crying, just whining. I have been attached to him all day and need a break. What do you guys do at times like this?

FelixFelix · 19/03/2014 19:43

Frying does he have a dummy? Sylvie used to do that and now I give her a dummy and she goes off to sleep. I always thought I'd never give my child one but it really helps!

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 19:55

He has one felix but he can take it or leave it. He just doesn't seem to care.

I've put him in his own cot, gave him a snuffles (a teddy bear attached to a blanket) for him to hold and he appears (fingers crossed) to be asleep. The baby monitor with the moment sensor is on and it seems good.

dh is almost home and will be making dinner tonight.

MrsVDB · 19/03/2014 19:56

frying I also use a dummy for whining. I'd give him a few mins but I stroke his hair if he won't sleep and sonetimes works. My Henry also isn't sleeping as well as he was. Has some days where he won't sleep at all and he's much clingier at night than he was so I end up falling asleep with him in our bed at his first night feed. I have no routine here and didn't want one as it would restrict what I'm doing etc and he's been so easy going I haven't needed it but now thinking some sort of loose routine may help

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 20:07

Henry has woken up. Brilliant.

i know people on here have very mixed feelings about GF (that's putting it lightly) but i like to know how long Henry should be awake before needing a nap. I've had a look and it's roughly every 1.5-2 hours for Henry's age (10wks). If he sleeps well during the day he sleeps well at night I've found. Ds1 loosely followed GF's sleeping (ie how long to be awake) so I'm hoping Henry does too

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 20:08

The time it took me to write that, he whined a couple of times and went back to sleep. Now he's quiet i worry there's something wrong. It's only because the monitor hasn't sounded that I'm not panicking!

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 20:15

He's awake. This is like a not-very-exciting action thread! Sorry! No more comments tonight about my Henry's sleeping :)

flyawayblue · 19/03/2014 20:29

Frying I could have written your last few posts! I'm stuck trying to get Alice to sleep and it's like yes... No... Yes.. I give up.

She is though normally a good sleeper and I do leave her to grumble but not cry or at least not sustained cry, she sometimes does this weird cry/shout as she's drifting off. Last night it took her half an hour at 2am to get back to sleep but she was mostly chatting to herself while I went mad from sleep denervation.

I hope he goes to sleep soon or that you can pass to your dh and then get some sleep yourself.

Percypiglet · 19/03/2014 20:30

Hello, haven't posted for ages so hi again. My little one Felicity is 7.5 weeks now as born 25.01.14 at 8lb 8. Then lost 18% of birth weight and we were readmitted to hospital. When we were discharged we then had to contend with our road and garage flooding but fortunately not our house due to it being raised but Felicity and I had to evacuate and move in with my parents for 10 days. Now back home and getting on with things. Had bad day today with lots of crying though...... Also no adult conversation today apart from a sentence with the health visitor and our neighbour, hideous! Hope you are all doing well?

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 20:33

percy that's just rough! I know what you mean about craving adult conversation. Sometimes i feel like I'm going mad!

fryingpantoface · 19/03/2014 20:34

Posted too soon!

does it make me a bad person that I'm pleased you're going through it too fly?

alteredimages · 19/03/2014 21:27

percy glad you're back home and felicity is doing better. My DD lost lots of weight in the first weeks too and it was so scary.I had thought she was feeding ok but she suddenly started sleeping loads and the docs said she was essentially blacking out from lack of energy. Sad Was paranoid it would happen again, but luckily it was much easier this time. Massive respect, you seem to be managing very well with so much stress! I hear you about the adult company, today I had a fantasy about having a walk without having my hand pulled or a baby strapped to my front. And a conversation in english that doesn't involve princesses, the big bad wolf or pee. Grin

frying I leave N when he is whining. If he actually needs something he quickly escalates to proper crying, or that funny shouty cry. Otherwise if I am free I might talk to him or check he isn't gassy or has a dirty nappy but he usually goes to sleep.
