Hello ladies,

Thought I would start you off. We can just keep this a stats thread until we all deliver and then move across if you like.

I had my check yesterday and the dr didn't physically check anything. She took my BP and we talked about contraception.

How's the cloth nappy trial going, nature? Hope the scan goes ok.

Thanks for the reassurances and good wishes, all. I'm trying not to worry too much until we actually know what's what.

fryingpantoface · 14/03/2014 09:48

The Dr just asked me and took my word on things. Asked about contraception and then did checks for Henry

FelixFelix · 14/03/2014 10:53

Humpty Grin moving out to the car sounds a brilliant idea.

I wasn't physically checked either. She asked me when bleeding stopped etc. and if periods had returned yet. Also discussed contraception. She checked Sylvie's chest, spine, hips and eyes and that was about it really.

flyawayblue · 14/03/2014 11:04

Thanks all. Sounds like they're a bit varied but shouldn't be too long.

Toby hope things are okay, my cousin has this and it cleared in childhood.

nature glad your appointment is at your local centre, know how horrible it is getting to and waiting at the main hospitals.

Naturegirl82 · 14/03/2014 12:20

Well that wasn't the news I was hoping for. The sonographer has changed her mind again and now thinks the cyst is the left kidney that hasn't developed which may mean it's more likely that she will get infections. Still don't know for sure but have another test next week at Alder Hey which should give a definite answer. She also thinks she saw signs of reflux in the right ureter which is not great. Will wait till next weeks test and consultant appointment before we worry.

toby cloth trial is going great. Has really helped me decide what works best for us. Think I am going to go with smartipants as I like their slimfit, drying time, and ease of use. We've had no leaks with them either. Luckily they are on offer as well which makes them even more appealing Smile

MrsVDB · 14/03/2014 12:21

That's a great weight gain frying was the hv happy?

fryingpantoface · 14/03/2014 20:43

I don't think she cared MrsV it felt like a cattle market at baby clinic. I told her about the Dr being worried about Henry's head size and she looked at me like I was an idiot. Apparently i shouldn't be worried. I can't see me taking Henry back there to get weighed. He'll be officially weighed again in 2 weeks then i don't think I'll bother for a while

FelixFelix · 14/03/2014 20:53

On nature that sounds worrying Sad hopefully you'll get good news from the tests next week.

DP finally pulled his finger out and contacted NCT today about the bednest collapsing. They were extremely apologetic and have arranged for a new one to be delivered on Monday and they are collecting the faulty one. They have contacted the supplier who said they have never heard of it happening before and are going to investigate. Just glad it's sorted!

Bikey86 · 14/03/2014 21:33

Sorry to hear that nature. Hopefully further tests will bring better news.

I've had a nightmare tonight. Henry has been on and off crying since 5pm and finally got him settled at 9pm. He's done this the past 3-4 nights and I had blamed the fact that we had been out every day and he was overstimulated. However Today we kept it nice and simple...stayed at home all day apart from a short walk out, regular naps and he was still as bad. Any clues what has changed???

TobyLerone · 15/03/2014 06:25

That's hard, Bikey. Meredith has done that most evenings since she was born, so I can't help! I sympathise, though.

Sorry it wasn't the news you were hoping for, nature, but hopefully you'll get some better news soon.
Glad the nappy trial's going well. I am a definite cloth nappy convert. I think they're the best things we bought for the baby.

Bikey86 · 15/03/2014 13:37

Toby...everyday since she was born? Oh dear. I do symathise with you. It must be hard. How do you cope? I find my patience wearing thin coz I'm so tired from night feeds !!!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/03/2014 15:54

bikey we get this too. Not every night, but usually at some point every day! It's usually overtiredness; Alex resists sleep like it's a deadly enemy (during the day anyway) and gets worked up.
Only cure is sleep, and for us one of the few ways to achieve that is taking her out in the car, but I know, e.g. that that doesn't work for toby/Meredith.

Also on cloth nappies here, bum genius and a couple of bamboo ones (not sure of brand as got them on free cycle) with wraps. Just ordered some little lambs all in ones off the nappy lady, 10 for £50!

enormouse · 15/03/2014 16:05

Yep, I've had the overtiredness, continuous yell too. The only thing I've found to work is putting Cal down in his crib and putting white noise on. If I keep holding him he screams even more.

nature thinking of you and Olivia.

toby, humpty and nature - is there a big difference between cloth and disposable? Is there much more washing with cloth ones?

Well, today is my birthday and we made it out to Belfast and went to pizza express. Was lovely but have been worried about the boys all day. Dps mum has them and they're fine. My boobs feel like they're going to explode from not being able to feed though.
Bought a few lovely things for the boys and am going to do some online shopping for myself when we get in.

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend too.

fryingpantoface · 15/03/2014 16:59

We get the over tired wail as well. Usually he goes to sleep for the night at 6.30. If he isn't asleep he will wail for ages until i stand holding him while singing. It can take a while.

fryingpantoface · 15/03/2014 17:02

Happy birthday mouse!

Henry is being the great un-put downable today. I'm unable to open my mouth properly after yesterday's wisdom tooth extraction, which isn't fun. The house is a mess because Henry kicks off when i put him in the wrap, and ds1 is on the rampage. Lots of fun! Dh gets back in about 90 mins, so i get to have a shower then

TobyLerone · 15/03/2014 18:27

We just work through it, bikey. She's doing it right now! We take it in turns to pace with her, not that it does much good, but we don't know what else to do! She loves the bath, though, so a bath every night usually shuts her up temporarily.
Humpty's right -- the car usually works for most babies. It did for DS when he was a baby. But Meredith loathes the car after about lunchtime, so when I have to go out to fetch DH from the station it usually starts.

enormouse, there is obviously more washing with washable nappies :o
I do find that the washables we use (Little Lamb bamboo size one) never leak, though, so we don't go through so many clothes.
I wash a load of nappies every day, pretty much. But I would heartily recommend them, particularly the ones we use. They call them 'bombproof' for a reason!

We've had a lovely day today. Quiet morning, Meredith and I had a lie-in til 9, then we went to the woods for a walk with my mum/sister/nephew. We were starving when we came back so we all went to Chiquito's for giant burgers. Then Sainsbury's and John Lewis and finally home.

TobyLerone · 15/03/2014 18:29

And happy birthday, enormouse!

FelixFelix · 15/03/2014 19:16

Happy birthday enormouse!

Lazy day here today. My mum and dad are visiting tomorrow and we are going out for the day so DP can get on with his uni work. He took Sylvie downstairs this morning and I slept from 8-12 and felt amazing afterwards! She's still not going to sleep until about half 12 then waking up at 4ish crying because she can't poo Sad it's so exhausting and I hope it passes soon.

TarkaTheOtter · 15/03/2014 19:42

Really don't wasn't to jinx it but I think Alex is turning a bit of a corner at 10.5 weeks. Last night he did three hrs between feeds in his Moses basket! And settled really quickly each time! So much better than the 1.5-2hr blocks sleeping on my chest. He has also slept loads more sleep than normal today and has been really smiley. He's actually quite easy going despite feeding/waking constantly so hoping he's a cheery, content baby deep down as dd has always been a bit, ummm, highly strung.

TarkaTheOtter · 15/03/2014 19:43

Hope that didn't come across as smug - it's just been so hard up to now that it feels so good to have an "easy" day.

FelixFelix · 15/03/2014 20:15

Tarka not smug at all! It's good to hear that you've had a better day Smile hopefully it will continue.

BookTart · 15/03/2014 20:28

Not smug tarka, lovely and reassuring as your 'before' description of Alex sounds exactly like Persephone so you've given me some hope!

Mythreeknights · 15/03/2014 21:13

Hi all...just wanted to say to nature to hang on in there. My now five year old son was born with severe hypospadias and so I know a little about urethras and kidneys. It can feel so unfair when everyone else has healthy little ones, but hopefully your baby's cyst can be removed surgically fairly easily and the reflux can be fixed too. Ds1 has wierd valves in is urethra which shoot pee back up into his kidneys (eg they work she wrong way round). These were removed easily but means he has a v strong bladder and so doesn't know when he should be going for a wee...which has led to one or two urinary tract infections. It's a totally different issue of course, but I do understand how shitty it all is, do pm me if you need.

As for me, dear Lucy slept from 10-5am three nights ago and so....I got mastitis again. Now attempting to get her onto a bottle at half ten pm as it is impossible for me to breast dream feed her. Feeling marginally better now but in strong antibiotics.

Naturegirl82 · 15/03/2014 21:41

Thanks mythree. We've known since the 20 week scan there wad a problem so have had time to get used to it. At the moment they aren't talking about surgery so fx next week's test confirms. Nobody seems very worried about it but the better case scenario was there was only one kidney and the other wasn't there at all so it was a shame tbey now think otherwise but hopefully just means more regular check ups with the consultant and nothing else.

humpty and toby which little lambs are you using? I've had the ones which need a waterproof wrap on trial but I'm not keen on the two part system, but I have seen they have some new ones out which are all in one/two (not sure which) and was tempted. Think I am going with smartipants and maybe some pop-ins (just because I like the prints!).

toby which reuseable breastpads do you use? Think I am going to order some little lamb bamboo ones. Anyone any experience?

Also how do people not get their tops covered in milk when breastfeeding? Olivia is a very sloppy eater and comes off the boob a few times in a feed so I end up covered. I use a muslin to catch drips but even then by the end my top is soaked and it's very frustrating!

Fx for those whose little ones are more settled it stays that way.

I bought a new sports bra today with the plan on attempting my first run slighty fast walk in 10 months tomorrow. Been feeling a bit frustrated with the being at home thing all the time (even though I do go out loads) so think it will do me good.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 16/03/2014 06:30

enormouse belated happy birthday!

felix I got a 'lie in' (fed at 6, down again, fed at 8.30, left her with DH straight after feed, slept until 11). 'Twas lush!

nature hope there's good news soon.
We have all in ones little lambs on order, they have two bamboo boosters per nappy, but you can pre stuff so they are one piece. Have bumgenius v. 4 which is same idea.
