March 2013 - time to wrap them all up in tinsel

Old thread here.

worse we're like Plonky on the timings - we keep mealtimes and milktimes separate. I spotted something in Evil Baby Whisperer that suggested around this age milk should be at the time you'd give a snack. Thinking about it, that's pretty much what we do - milk at the crack of dawn, 11am, 3pm and bedtime, food at 9am, 1pm and 5pm. It seems to work, and Fartypants is definitely in the process of reducing milk herself. Those middle two feeds, she's having about four ounces now.

How is the worselet on mush? Does she show any preferences? If we were sticking with baby led weaning we'd be getting absolutely nowhere. Savoury mushes, she'll try a mouthful then get distracted by the cat. Fruit mushes, she practically inhales. For a reduced stress option, can I suggest getting yourself to Asda? They've a hell of a range of cheap fruity mushes, and then at least you're not having to throw away purees you've spent hours lovingly creating.

Incidentally, six month old Molly may love her porridge, but all that means is that Molly's a total weirdo - porridge is vile. It's weetabix all the way round here, with mashed banana in.

eco hang in there, it does get better. How long until 37 weeks for you?

I am thanking my heathen gods we don't have crawling yet. Nappy changes with rolling are bad enough. Especially when it's a particularly horrific one.

Stormy my DH goes silent every time there's a conversation he wasn't expecting or doesn't know what to say in and I spent about 5 years mistaking this for rudeness and screaming at him for being an ignorant pig. It's taken a long time to realise he isn't trying to be rude, is thinking like crazy in his head but just doesn't know how to put the words out there for fear of saying something wrong. Obviously this is very annoying still but it's just him, and we now just need to find other ways of discussing the tough stuff. This is worlds away from someone that just can't be arsed to answer you or won't have the tough conversation in any form and I think you need to figure out which one your DP is, because I assume one of these you could live with and one you couldn't. Make sure you're being kind to yourself and fair to you both because as plonk said, he'll always be in your life.

If you take a bit of time, he manages to communicate to you and you still decide it's not what you want then as tough as that is, there's no point spending years being unhappy if you don't need to.

Whatever you decide we're here though, usually with moans and whinges about lack of sleep, food fussiness, poo explosions and general monkeying around but we're here all the same Wink

stormy take each day as it comes. Don't make rash decisions. Maybe some time apart will do you all good.

I think most men keep silent but may be its not intentional. It drives me crazy when I get no reaction from dh. Sometimes I start a conversation with the most random topic just to get a dialogue going. He just give me a Confused look. Funny how if it is football he will talk non stop.

Last night our relationship went on a whole another level. We played eye spy in bed. So sexy. Smile

eco we got our first shoes today. We went to clarks they even took a cute picture of him in his new shoes. So sweet. I may have been the neglectful parent for only just buying his shoes even though hes been walking a while now. They gave us an appointment for 6weeks time to check if his shoes fit ok or not.

Yummy and Eco DD has had shoes for a couple of months because I let her crawl and cruise around outside at the playground quite a lot but she's only worn them a few times and now we need a bigger pair...glad I got them in the sale! Eco we too have boys shoes, the girls selections were all very sparkly and looked like they should be worn with pretty dresses and never encounter mud. I opted for a pair that are green and grey and look like little runners. The lady in Clarks did feel the need to point out twice that they were shoes for boys!

We've not even thought about shoes yet Shock am I neglectful? Although, February (grr) meant no money but since DS took a few steps last night, proper shoes might encourage him to go the whole hog.

yummy eye spy in bed! Wahey! Did you think of me? Wink

No proper shoes here yet. Leaving it until she masters walking (which might be a while, she's given up on proper walking since she figured out how to crawl). We just have socks with soles for when she's standing on a slippery floor.

No shoes here either. We have these as she's just started cruising on our slippery floor, they stay on and have a suede type sole. I'm not buying shoes until she's walking enough to walk outside! But I'm a cheapskate... Don't think walking will happen for a couple of months anyway.

Today's big news. Took her to the childminders despite me being on half term because it felt like we were making progress last week and didn't want to ruin that. No crying at all! Not even when I dropped her off! And she slept. Not just a little bit, but for 2 whole hours. So I am a very happy mummy today. She's obviously feeling better today and had a good nights sleep last night, I've remembered that I do actually like her Smile

I paid £32 for shoes that may only last only 6 weeks. I was intending to by 2 pairs but I too am a cheapskate.

gerry well done for persevering with the childminder.

If we didn't live in the city where the start right factory shop was ecobaby would be still in socks! £9 for ours. £32 is silly money for shoes they say need checking for size every six to eight weeks! Lunacy!

Gerry, yes, agree with yummy, well done for child minder perseverance. Being well too is a half term bonus.

Stormy how are you feeling today and how was dp been?

Plonk how did you get on with work mountain? Glad the wedding is still on I've planned your card already

We went to a hellish story telling session at library today. Other people's children. Ug. That's all I'll say or I'll sound like a wizened old crone. We did have a jolly back pack stomp through the woods to make up for it. Pretty sure now we have mamma, dada and bear in context now and when she says mamma when I come into the room a little piece of my stony heart crumbles. I bloody love her! But Gerry I don't always like her behaviour Smile Oh no.

Someone asked about how long our relationships have been ticking along and whether we have procreated with our first loves. For me personally I am eternally grateful that I didn't. I had always been switched off to idea of babies. I bounced from a four year relationship to a two year to a nine year pretty much back to back and maintained my 'no baby' stance throughout. After an affair (not mine) I bought my own house in the city, started a new job and lived a happy single life for a year and a half until I met my current dh which is when idea of babies became a possibility. So in my case I guess the fact that this sea change happened is an indication that he's something special. Maybe the same goes for some of you with your someone specials. I don't behave like a TOTAL ratbag around him, just a partial one and he brings out the best in me. Other than those observations who knows. But he feels right if that makes any sense. I should add we're chalk and cheese in many respects and far from day to day harmony, but we care a lot about the other's feelings and want the best for them. That's our bottom line I guess. We've only been together six years though so relatively short amount of time. different for everyone I guess. I'd be trusting my instinct I think if it came to a crunch with him. I hope those of you currently struggling find a way through this bit. We're good listeners on here so venting might help a little.

Right, best dash and pop some rice on. Hungry! I think I have spring fever! Does anyone else get this? It's a general state of excitement where you go a bit loopy because of the return of the sun and bird song. Animals get it too. But they display their symptoms by shagging. Me less so Grin

Been a quiet day. He's mostly just stared into space, and pretty well ignored DD, which I can forgive this once because I imagine his head's a bit all over the place. Hopefully getting keys tomorrow. Kind of want to take it all back and stop hurting him, but that would mean going back to how unhappy I've been.

I totally get spring fever eco! I clean! I work hard! In a past life I used to always get an urge to have something pierced or tattooed, but now I get more excited about wearing pumps instead of boots and not wearing a coat. In fact from mid march onwards I basically refuse to put a coat back on, regardless of the weather. Last year, that made me very cold! I'm the same with flip flops from mid June...

Stay strong, Stormy. You are a whole person too and it doesn't help to minimize your feelings to appease him. You know he's acted selfishly and it's entirely appropriate to stand your ground on this. Let him stew, let him mull it over, his reactions over the next month or two are going to be what counts.

That's a bold stance Gerry! No coat from mid march! It was snowing on the day DS was born Confused
And go GerryBaby! That's great that she's finally happy to sleep at the childminders. Hopefully it'll all click into place now - once DS chilled out about nursery I felt less stressed by it all and we all got along better.

No shoes here. Knees are still way better than feet apparently. But I looooove the change from winter to spring.

Today were off to see a lady about a coil, then lunch and a brisk walk with grandma.

No shoes here... behind the curve. Again!!! I read somewhere that bare feet are best when learning to walk as shoes and socks get in the way of babies learning to use the full range of movement in their feet. I'll get her shoes when she's walking properly, which given she is still on the 'look mum no hands' and then falling over stage of mobility, will be a little while yet.

Stormy once upon a time many moons ago my DH asked me to move out, just for some space like, not as a separation. It broke me. I don't think I said an awful lot either. Your DP is probably going through a whole range of emotions right now, so if he's not saying anything, in this particular scenario I have some sympathy for him.

Speaking of DH he's home today... yay. After a whole week of solo parenting I can say with some authority, it's tough. I'm exhausted. On the upside I have implemented a sleep routine that really works. Milk downstairs in front of restoration man/grand designs (I know, I know.... but I can rely on those stay pretty calm and soporific), story in the cot, then lights out and the musical sea horse. She has a bit of a whinge, but doesn't cry, and settles herself to sleep. The seahorse also worked at 5.30am this morning after an early bottle. That was a relief.

The sun is shining. It is a gorgeous day. Enjoy it everyone.

Gerry no coat from March?! You mad mare.

I basically go coatless whenever I feel I can get away with it. I make exceptions for rain, but only if I'm going to be out in it for a while. I really resent it when you get 2 lovely weeks in march, then the weather closes in again, so I get really stubborn. I pretty much don't wear jumpers in summer either. To be fair I am pretty warm blooded and I would always choose to be too cold than too hot.

plonk any lady in particular about a coil? You coulda come to see me if it wasn't specific, I could do with the company at work!

gerry you are crazy. I'm the complete opposite. I sit cradling a heater in the height of Summer. I do live in the old Birkenstocks though, as soon as June-ish hits until about October.

Just had a text from CM to say that DS has had to be separated from the other children because he has a lot of fluid leaking from his ear due to the infection and it's contagious. I think that's such a sad-sweet image - DS playing quietly alone while the others cause chaos. Sob Sad He's booked in at the GP again this afternoon.

Glad you've got your routine worse. Routines are fabulous, I'd be a crumpled up mess on the floor without my routines.

eco I get my own version of Spring fever too. It makes me want to be healthy so I've been going for walks on my lunch breaks and I've just ordered my first Graze box to stop me snacking on crap. I'm far too excited about it!

Something oh no, poor ds. That sounds very sore Sad

I've heard about the wonder that is the Graze box, but haven't as yet managed to get past the idea that it is just a box if dried out rabbit food. I'm missing something, aren't I? I reckon I could do with a Spring dietary overhaul too, as I have just realised that in the week DH has been away I have got through a 1kg vat of peanut butter and started on a second. That's not great really. Aim for next week: meals. Proper ones. Grease off a spoon does not count.

worse I specified olives and brownies and fruit smoothie compotes. No rabbit food for me! It's not just seeds, it's fun food too! Wink
