March 2013 - time to wrap them all up in tinsel

Old thread here.

worse we're like Plonky on the timings - we keep mealtimes and milktimes separate. I spotted something in Evil Baby Whisperer that suggested around this age milk should be at the time you'd give a snack. Thinking about it, that's pretty much what we do - milk at the crack of dawn, 11am, 3pm and bedtime, food at 9am, 1pm and 5pm. It seems to work, and Fartypants is definitely in the process of reducing milk herself. Those middle two feeds, she's having about four ounces now.

How is the worselet on mush? Does she show any preferences? If we were sticking with baby led weaning we'd be getting absolutely nowhere. Savoury mushes, she'll try a mouthful then get distracted by the cat. Fruit mushes, she practically inhales. For a reduced stress option, can I suggest getting yourself to Asda? They've a hell of a range of cheap fruity mushes, and then at least you're not having to throw away purees you've spent hours lovingly creating.

Incidentally, six month old Molly may love her porridge, but all that means is that Molly's a total weirdo - porridge is vile. It's weetabix all the way round here, with mashed banana in.

eco hang in there, it does get better. How long until 37 weeks for you?

I am thanking my heathen gods we don't have crawling yet. Nappy changes with rolling are bad enough. Especially when it's a particularly horrific one.

It was fun stalking, actually. All the names we've lost since the early days, all those photos of gorgeous scrunchy newborns, Mr Eco's hair...

worsestershiresauce · 12/02/2014 16:17

Stormy I just had to log on to FB to check out Mr Eco's hair. Eco does he have a secret other than youth? Mr Worse was just wondering... Grin

ecofreckle · 12/02/2014 17:11

Now I'm worried!
Mr Eco is the least vain man on the planet so does tend to go for long periods between haircuts where he goes a bit shaggy. Is that it? Or do you think he looks very dark? He has many grey hairs that have appeared since he met me Shock so he's not a 'just for men-er'. Or is it the way from mid-ear downward he is gingery and black above, giving his sideburns an amusing colour fade?

Tell me! I love his hair Grin

He'd be mortified to think there's something noticeable about him!

His only secret is the love of a good older woman Wink

StormyBrid · 12/02/2014 17:12

It's just really good hair!

yummychocolate · 12/02/2014 18:51

stormy I will pm you but am on phone at moment. I don't want my ds being known as ?. I dont want him growing up with an identity crisis. Grin

I will be going on fb in a couple of weeks although I may go back on it earlier just to check out mr eco's hair. So I look forward to meeting you all and more stalking from stormy Smile

eco the club we are in is just rubbish. After 2 nights ofgood sleep it was back to playing musical beds again. I know this is odd thing to say but I wish ds could sleep in our bed. It makes it alot easier to settle him whilst co sleeping.

Betty a kitchen is a fab idea. Ds now likes to put his toys on my vegetable rack and push it along.

worse well done worselet on eating. See all that worrying for nothing.

Im traumatised, ds looked under my skirt today and said "wooo". Hmm

worsestershiresauce · 12/02/2014 19:05

Eco it is luxuriant hair!

ecofreckle · 12/02/2014 19:12

are good and luxuriant euphemisms for wig???? Ah ha ha ha!

Yummy your ds thinks your nethers are a bit woo? MN would say that makes them a bit fairy/supernatural/mystic badger Smile I can think of worse reactions.

BettyOff · 12/02/2014 20:20

Could have been worse Yummy, could have been woo hoo!

Eco that is good hair, I daren't show DH, he'll get serious envy!

I think I've got flu bloody typical on the first year in a decade I haven't had the jab as my temperatures are impressive, I'm having to go down the stairs on my bum, I feel like a coma would be a welcome alternative and I fainted earlier for the first time since I was a teen. I've no possible help with DD tomorrow so hoping for some form of miracle by then.

Pudtat · 12/02/2014 20:26

Mystic badger (sniggers) Grin

worsestershiresauce · 12/02/2014 21:12

A wig Eco? Absolutely not. I once worked with a bloke who wore a wig. I can assure you it was neither good nor luxuriant Grin

Betty you poor thing. I'm crossing my fingers Bettybaby allows you a good night's sleep tonight.

Pud snort!

Anypants · 12/02/2014 22:52

Woooooo all. Crikey, it's taken me all evening to catch up.

Glad the poorlies are not so poorly now. Betty hope you're ok?

We have a tooth coming through - the first at last! DD has been grizzly for ages but seems better now it's broken the surface. Was starting to think she needed baby dentures.

And yes - scarily, two weeks yesterday she'll be an entire year old. A freaking year?? How did that happen? One of my post-natal mums cried for a week as she was so emotional when her DD turned 1 (two weeks ago) so i've got no hope. I've got cake to make, party bags to fill, beige part buffet food to gather and all in 12 days.... Shock

Remember how you felt this time last year??

Plonkysaurus · 13/02/2014 10:00

Any once the first tooth here came through he got 5 more in the blink of an eye. You'll have a snapping turtle within a fortnight.

Funny to think BabySomething has TWELVE teeth and BabyAny has none, yet both are completely healthy, happy little souls. It just goes to show. Ohh this time last year I was 2 weeks away from my due date, convinced I was going to go into labour at any moment and, thanks to the weather, completely housebound and sedentary. And so, so naive about what was about to happen!

Glad you've cleared things up with DH. Anything you want to talk about?

Betty you poor sausage, are you feeling any improvement today?

Eco it is very good hair. I particularly like the sideburns, it looks like he takes them seriously. Has it become greyer since DD? DP had no grey hair a year ago but now has a good salt and pepper sprinkle.

Ugh. It looks like we may have to go to North Wales at the weekend to stay with DP's grandpa. Not that I mind his grandpa, he's lovely, but old and frail and alone in a rural location complete with bad weather, with a dog to walk every day and mega power cuts. DP's parents are in Madeira. I know I'm a selfish cow, but I'm really hoping the weather improves by then so we can enjoy a family weekend of just us.

StormyBrid · 13/02/2014 10:54

Or it could be ages before more teeth appear. DD got her first two early September, then nothing until the next two at the start of November. Number five came on New Year's Day, and number six a few days ago. Takes her time over it!

This time last year it was still over three weeks until my due date, the man had found himself a job, and I was getting up early to force bacon sandwiches down him before work. Was looking forward to my brother's annual birthday curry, which I missed in the end because I felt too pregnant to do anything. Funnily enough, that didn't stop me going for one two days before my due date. Failed to mention at the time that I was having contractions, but by god, the waiting staff didn't half look worried when I walked in. Still have the after dinner mint in DD's box of memories.

And we're just back from the doc's. Chest infections all round. Joy!

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 13/02/2014 13:57

Yikes Stormy banana medicine all round then? Winter SUCKS. I've always found it hard but with a baby in tow it's like ten more heaps of shit on top of a wheelbarrow full of difficulty. And I've had a good winter.

Am currently attempting to keep my cool as it appears the awesome entertainment I've booked for my wedding thinks he's performing in Huddersfield. Not Nottinghamshire. I love the way communications always go smoothly, especially when handing over vast sums of money. It fills me with confidence.

yummychocolate · 13/02/2014 14:24

Watch out for the biting any. Also sometimes it can take ages for teeth to come through even though you have a grizzly baby.

This time last year I was an emotional cow. Dh arranged a surprise meal out for valentines day but I thought he didnt arrange anything so I argued with him. I was so fed up of being pregnant and was still going through sickness. Everything made me feel sick so a meal out was not a good idea.

How are you feeling betty?

stormy get well soon. I have to confess I loved banana medicine.

We had a horrible accident this morning. DS fell onto the edge of the tv stand and hit his mouth. There was blood and a frantic mummy trying to tend to a frantic baby. Im sooooo not good in these situations. I phoned my dm in tears to comfort both of us.

BettyOff · 13/02/2014 14:50

Oh yummy, poor both of you. DD face planted earlier on the wooden hallway floor because she wanted to keep hold of the remote. It took quite a lot of calming down! She only settled when the dog came to lick her better!

Sounds grim Stormy, it's a shame thy don't do banana medicine for adults isn't it?

I feel crap still, I was a bit better this morning but deteriorating the longer I'm awake. I'm alternating freezing and sweating so constantly getting changed and I would really love some help with miss madam. I've asked DH to get home as early as he can but as he considers only working an extra hour early I don't hold out much hope. Roll on the weekend!

Anypants · 13/02/2014 19:16

yummy the biting started tonight with her bedtime feed - ouch. Thank fudge she didn't get any sooner Shock

plonky the DH related cr*p was just a blip. I was hormonal (pmt) and started an arguement over him using kitchen roll to blow his nose instead of tissues. That turned into a shouting match just before he went to work and he threatened not to come home. But he did. And we're ok. Gotta watch those hormones... Confused

betty poor thing - you've got to give yourself a break. There must be someone who can take DD for a few hours to let you rest?? Thanks

ecofreckle · 14/02/2014 07:25

can we start a competition for most romantic gesture/gift today please? I will win I just got given a garlic press.

BettyOff · 14/02/2014 08:40

We're a Valentines day free household Eco so you do win at the moment!

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 14/02/2014 08:46

Hello! You lot have been busy (and so have I). If anyone ever wants to know when the school holidays are imminent you'll be able to tell by me going quiet, that last week is a killer.

I have caught up, but promptly forgotten everything! Happy hols those on hols, hope poorly babies and mums are feeling better. I never bought into the whole 'getting ill cos it's winter' thing but now I see it's true, think we're both finally recovering from the latest chesty/snotty/not sleeping episode.

Does this mean Babygerry is the last with no teeth? No signs here.

This time last year I was sofa bound with spd, watching greys anatomy boxset, knitting like a crazy person, had been signed off work for 6 weeks, and thought that as my due date was 26th, and my bump was measuring small, I probably still had 2 months left to go. 3 weeks later...

No toys here for birthday, we've run out of space. And we get so many hand-me-down books and clothes that I'm really stumped. Was hoping she'd be walking so could buy first shoes but no luck there!

Anyway, someone wants breakfast me so better go. Happy Fridays ladies!

yummychocolate · 14/02/2014 08:50

eco how romantic Grin you are in the lead.

We went out to dinner last night to avoid loved up young couples who weren't sleep deprived and didnt have snot trail on their clothes. I did spend a good half hour removing all baby stuff from my handbag before I left the house.

We will exchange gifts later. Although these are just chocolates and flowers usually. I doubt there will be diamonds.

yummychocolate · 14/02/2014 08:54

X post. Hi gerry my teacher friend tells me too its very hectic at school pretty much everyday. Usually due to the amount of paperwork. We love Gove.

BettyOff · 14/02/2014 09:02

Can I ask are the other babies violent or have I given birth to a sadistic terror? When DD is having a cry because she isn't getting her own way she hits like mad whoever's holding her, she loves pulling hair/gouging eyes/scratching lips and faces/pinching. She's also partial to a good headbutt. Blush

Gerrythetootallgiraffeswife · 14/02/2014 09:16

We have violence here when tired. No more nice sleepy snuggles, instead our placid sweet baby turns into a writhing, manic, face whacking, eye gouging monster until we put her in her cot and close the door.

We don't really do valentines presents or cards, but I do usually cook a nice dinner. But since I now do all the cooking, instead tonight we're getting an early takeaway, watching a film and doing a jigsaw puzzle. Rock and roll!
