Apologies for the x-posting that meant there's no thread link in the last thread Blush.
I'll start this one and hope people find it.

Good news on the hips and interview slippy. Sure you will be fine but lots of teachers here, happy to help. Also the tes website is good.

JellyCurls · 16/12/2013 16:05

Orange if baby has runs avoid Calpol as this causes most kids to have loose bowel movements

OrangeBlossom2 · 16/12/2013 16:45

Oh dear jelly didn't know that! Given calpol as he was crying as if in pain. Lots of rumblings tell me there is more to come... He has slept in my arms most of the afternoon so not too bad at all.

FeministInTraining · 16/12/2013 17:13

No cold Slippy and strangely enough I haven't washed his face since last night (bad mummy) and the rash has almost gone completely. So it's cotton wool or hard water. Would I need to boil bottled water? I can't imagine I can clean his eyes with breast milk indefinitely? (Picturing him discussing face washing at nursery!) And wiping his eyes with a muslin or baby flannel seems so rough. Grrr just as we got rid of crust.

Good luck with PGCE interview, as Orange said there are plenty of teachers here and I'm sure we would all be happy to help. Are you on the FB group? There's a list of everyone's details which include what they teach/age group if they are teachers. If you aren't on the group and want me to tell you who might be best to help then let me know.

GTbaby · 16/12/2013 20:23

Bronze I took ds1 to India at 5months. He was a good traveller. Went for a month. Had to take formula and enough nappies for the whole time! Obviously you won't need to if going to Canada.

I think younger is better. At 14 months old can't imagine ds sitting on my lap for such a long flight!

whistlingdixie · 16/12/2013 21:14

Woohoo!!! That's fantastic Jelly!!

Bronze - I'm taking A on a 12hr overnight flight at end of Dec when he'll be 10 weeks :-0 my theory is that it'll be easier than taking a toddler on a long haul... Fingers crossed

Flyer747 · 16/12/2013 23:21

Bronze I used to work for airmiles ( years ago now like 15 I think) I say go long haul whilst babies aren't mobile.

If you fly a uk long haul airline BA, Virgin then call the special requests dept and request bulk head seats and a sky cot, it's a cot attached to the bulkhead (great invention for babies under 1) we are hoping to go to Cape Town in February.

chickieno1 · 17/12/2013 02:15

Definitely go when baby is under 6 months bronze! They can fit on your lap or in cot like flyer said and you don't have to worry about food just bf/ff. went ldn Dubai when ds was 4 months old was a lovely trip. Did a few short haul trips too much easier when younger.

Well done jelly's dd! You must be very proud! Hope chiropractor helps your little ones neck and the head lag improves xx

Orange hope T is better

Good luck with interview Slippy

Hi feminist! The nurse in hospital who did the giving the baby a bath bit used a flannel for her face. She just used different corners to wipe each eye. Baby M was fine at only a few hours old! You could always try it for a few days and see how you get on?

Thank goodness I didn't kill thread Grin

xuntitledx · 17/12/2013 02:41

Can't get LO back to sleep...this almost never happens.

I've had to wake DH up to try and settle him which I hate doing when he's working.

8 week jabs here today so they've obviously knocked him a little out of sorts!

xuntitledx · 17/12/2013 03:38

2 hours and a calpol later he's sleeping on my chest - best give him a few mins before putting him down!

Haven't heard from legally in a while; hope everything is okay!

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 17/12/2013 05:09

untitled we're also up and can't get back off to sleep, I'm just topping him up before trying in cot again, it's often the case that he's still hungry-if only the first feed didn't take 45 mins it wouldn't be so bad-been up since half 3! Xmas Sad

Flyer747 · 17/12/2013 06:12

Untitled I feel your pain chick we've had the unable to settle for the past few nights it's so tiring after knowing they are able to fully settle themselves in the past.

Look at that wonder weeks app it's brilliant and I think we are having a 'Second Leap' so it's a stormy time for baby flyer and baby untitled. It explains a lot about their behaviour.

Chickieno GrinGrin you killed the thread, this made me laugh.

Legally pleassssee come back no more Facebook pressure we promise Grin

Jelly so pleased jelly dd won her gymnast award it must make you very proud and I hope all goes well with the chiropractor.

Slippysnow · 17/12/2013 07:45

Thankyou for your interview support ladies :) my major concern is that my brain has gone so mushy since having c and leaving university I no longer can focus/speak/write coherently which doesn't project a great impression of a capable teacher in the interview. It's a day one with writing tasks, group discussions, individual interviews and the added bonus of phonics and maths tests!

I used to go to the uni I'm applying for so that limits the people who can interview me incase I get an advantage which worries me that I will get a dragon interviewing me while my competition gets my friendly tutors.

Also the short notice means more expressing to cover the interview day, as well as running around gathering documents, finding passport photos, updating a cv, revising and worrying about a little gorgeous baby.

Rant rant rant.

I'd fly ASAP I wouldn't want a hefty baby on my lap when they are fidgety.

Hoping the poorly babies are making swift recoveries

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 17/12/2013 08:11

flyer what age is the "second leap" and how long does it last?! Bad night here too.
slippy are you applying for primary or secondary? Good luck! x

Slippysnow · 17/12/2013 08:31

primary, with a specialism in early years. Secondary teachers are very brave and should be on a much higher salary than they currently get! I couldn't do it personally.

OrangeBlossom2 · 17/12/2013 08:55

Wonder week 2 is 8 weeks. I got an email alert about it just as I was wondering if that is why Thomas was fussy on Sunday. It's based in due date. I only downloaded a free sample on kindle but their website has summaries.

Thomas is better, thanks. He slept really well but I couldnt go back to sleep after 5 until 7. What a waste of sleep time!

Slippy being able to function while multi tasking in the extreme is a plus point for a teacher I would say and you will have strategies for getting by despite exhaustion. At my PGCE interview the group task was something like ranking statements in order of whether we agreed with then ready to present back, but they never actually got us to do the presenting back, it was the discussion that they were qatching, so be aware everything is part of the interview.

OrangeBlossom2 · 17/12/2013 09:00

Ps wonder week 2 lasts 3 - 14 days Confused

Slippy I teach year 1 and taught reception once a week for a year, occasional time in nursery if you need anything specific. Be aware they changed the way they assess children now judging against early learning goals as emerging, expected, exceeding. Much higher standards expected by end of reception, with knock on effect into ks1. And there has been a national phonics screening check in yr1 the last 2 years, maybe think about your opinion on that and it's impact on phonics teaching. That might be a good discussion topic if I were a tutor.

Thepurplegiraffe · 17/12/2013 09:11

Ah that would explain why my 8 week baby is so unsettled. We have had a difficult few days here but I had just put them down to the end of her cold.

Good luck with the interview Slippy, sounds like you will fly through it. I would love to be a teacher but apparently you need to be good with children Xmas Grin

Flyer747 · 17/12/2013 09:59

Yes the second leap lasts from 8 weeks to 9 1/2 weeks Confused such an unsettled baby here too.

Slippy good luck with the interview x

Shootingstarsandcomets · 17/12/2013 11:16

We are wonder week 8 here to. Nightmare. Just waiting to go in for his jabs...........am ready with the calpol!
Re flying and babies we took ds1 to Italy at 9 months old and he was a superstar on the flight, took him again at 12 months and he was a nightmare! We are taking them both to Majorca in May and I'm dreading the flight. It's definitely easier to take a smaller baby. We are planning a trip to Australia in march 2015 when they will be 18 months and 2.5 yrs I think we might be mad!!!

xuntitledx · 17/12/2013 14:23

Just downloaded the app, thanks flyer

Squirrel - the only thing that settled him was another feed...despite already feeding for 45 mins!

Good luck slippy!

FeministInTraining · 17/12/2013 20:36

Off to download wonder weeks app, thanks Flyer. It all makes sense, we're in week 8 and had trouble settling last night. DP took R into front room to watch the ashes at 2am. He had jabs today and has had evening fussiness off and on since about 4pm. Oh, and I think he had his first rotavirus splat? He doesn't usually poo more than once a day... I can't take all the clothes changes, gone up a nappy size and taking my time putting them on securely... Fingers crossed!

JellyCurls · 17/12/2013 21:32

Took JellyBaby to chiropractor today and she told me he had jammed knees (explains why he never kicks) a tight diaphragm and tightness around his front shoulder (which could explain why he keeps going blue) and seized neck. This will cause his head to lag and also why he only faces one way, he can't physically look over his other shoulder. He's a poor wee boy Sad

She manipulated him for about 20 mins and he smiled for about 5 mins afterwards and has slept ever since. We to go back in 3 weeks to see if he's settled any.

Hope everyone else is doing well and has better nights sleeps tonight. I am sleep deprived as DS1 now has a cough that's turning croupy so he up at night as well as DS2 waking for feeds.

Mnippy · 17/12/2013 22:00

Just checking in to say I'm still here! MnipJnr doing fine, although last few days has been v clingy. Maybe it's the BCG?

Off to Paris this weekend, our first night away with the baby. It will either be amazing or a complete disaster...

Thepurplegiraffe · 17/12/2013 23:10

Thanks Jelly. Hope he improves after all that. Sounds like progress.
